We have undoubtedly learned with the recent attack on Absalom that when faced with Society members who commit such heinous actions there can be only 1 permanent solution.

Ran the first session last night. The opening sequence and second encounter were fantastic. Everyone felt off balance all night. I nearly had 2 TPKs. The dopplegangers are unforgiving to 1st level characters, other then being more aggressive then they should have been in pushing forward (but I think this was a cool reaction to being off balance in part) they didn't do anything wrong. The Oathday's trick fooled them in the sense that they all charged forward to investigate the 'trap' they all blew their perception checks and I got a surprise round in as they ignored her disguise. It went OK from their for awhile with the occultist doing some serious damage before succumbing to a flurry of claws... In the end only 1 person was standing with a couple of hit points when the Oathsday could flee (also down to just a few hit points). The oracle spent the night sleeping against the door. Waiting for spells in the morning to revive her allies. Oh the dreams they had....

Having recently played this I enjoyed the scenario design even though we blew the secondary condition right off the bat. My character is an Oracle with the wasting curse, so I'm great at intimidate but stink at all other social skills. It makes for fun role playing. In the first encounter we got the woe is me speech, and one of the other characters attempted a diplomacy with no particular success. At which point my character lost it, that our valiant leader was behaving so weakily and I told that soldier to get his sorry butt in the fight. Crushed the intimidate check, which as it turns out was exactly the wrong thing but it was still fun. Especially later on while he was giving his second angsty speech. Everyone was trying to cheer him up, so I actually attempted to assist on the diplomacy. What does a Dark Tapestry oracle say when trying to cheer up someone worried about the point of it all? "Fear not Sir Iilvan for the cold embrace of oblivion shall soon wash away the pain."

Why bother to play the game at all we know the fate of our current world will be baked and eventually swallowed by the sun in about 4 billion years. And after we have fled the solar system we only have something like 2-3 times that long before the universe approaches a cold unforgiving state of highest entropy, or collapses back on itself.

There was this terribly despondent knight whom was lamenting lost commrades. My party mates where trying to cheer him up, when I in the name of the Dark Tapestry tried to help by pointing out that it was not worth being sad afterall we will all feel the cold comfort of oblivion soon.

Filed under how to role-play a character with a bad diplomacy attempting to assist.
