Kristophe rises back to his feet, his misery plainly etched on his face. "What was I thinking". "What got in to me". "I deserve every bit of this". "Well when I get back to Korvosa, I'll just quietly slip away and..." Kristope quickly looks behind him at the gateway. Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

I'm not nightflier, and don't mean to speak for him, and I know it seems like I'm being comfrontational with you, but this is a core Pathfinder game. I don't understand why you keep trying to reach out for things not in the core. Nobody else had problems with this. On a personal note, I know Nightflier doesn't have a problem with it, but to me Weapon Bond is a horribly overpowered feat, that removes the only advantage that dedicated fighters have. Not only is your to hit as good as a dedicated fighter, but things like fatigue, and exhaustion that hurt a fighter, don't affect the Weapon bond feat. This type of feat is why I quit playing 3.5 and don't want to see this happen to Pathfinder. Nightflier's other games are intentionally over the top, but he balances this with over the top challenges. This is a CORE game.

Kristophe had noticed the uneven spot on the wall, but let those closest to it trouble with it. He watches the portcullis, and the water around it for any signs of trouble. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 Perception Well he's consistent anyway. Obviously the odor down here is stinging his normally sharp eyes

Kristophe would like to have a melee fighter in the complete rear of the group, with him next to the back. Not all threats come from the front, and his nightvision might help. Nightflier, at this point I'd go ahead and just place us using our comments for guidance. Don't want to see this slow the game down. If nobody said anything about where they want to be, maybe they will next time.

I'll be out of the country on business from tomorrow morning till Thursday evening. Should have internet, but only later in the evening. don't want to hold up the game so post for character as needed.

"Actually, I'm no new recruit of the city guard, if that is what you mean, but we have a mutual friend whom said you might be able to help us". "Kagain says to give you his regards, and asks if you might help us with a situation". It seems that there is a rodent problem in the city, and we have been tasked with the job of exterminators". But all your posts are about making your character better, and have nothing to do with making the game better for everybody. And I'm not pissed off...just see warning signs of things that have destroyed games I've been in in the past. Sorry if you took offense, but if you don't want an opinion...don't ask for one.

"Hourglass society". "What's that". "All I know is I was told that Sgt Milunka could help me out with a little problem I'm experiencing". "Just trying to call in a favor". Just trying to downplay the whole hourglass society thing. We don't know anything about this societies place in Korvosa yet, if it even has one yet, being new and all. And still don't know if we should keep it a secret or not.

I really would like to play in this game, so I'll try to keep my trap shut and see how things play out. If it doesn't work for me I can always accidently charge off a cliff or something ;-}. Just don't want to see the game degrade into something that's not really Pathfinder....Thanks for the opportunity. (Careful with that Channel Weapon though...Chill touch and similar spells with weapon damage added as well, and possible criticals could prover very nasty)

Zariah wrote: Options are exactly that, options. I have no problem with someone playig a class they think would be fun, especially if the DM doesn't mind. I agree with you in principle and and there are gaming systems designed with that in mind, but 3.5 ended up with so many...especially 3rd party options, that things taken by themselves seemed OK and balanced, but when added to options from other sources broke the game. In real life I've had more than one game broken by min-maxing players taking advantage of "Options". I'm not accusing anyone here of min-maxing, but by opening the window to allow this, we're opening the window of opportunity for that possibility. I don't understand why we can't find enough options in the core rules to make enjoyable characters. I know options let you customize your character, and make him feel like your own, but there are tons of new options in the APG to allow you to do just that. And I know we haven't come close to exhausting that. I've got to be honest the class seems a bit unbalanced to me. Stopping at 6th level spells is really not a back breaker when you've got access to the whole S/W spell list. Fighting nearly as good as the fighters at early levels, and casting 10-dice fireballs as he gets higher level seems a bit much. Being able to deliver touch spells, as well as do weapon damage at middle levels seems a bit much. Nobody else has an issue with trying the class, and like the AC decision, I"m usually willing to go along with the majority, but I see warning signs, and if I didn't care about the game, I wouldn't point them out I joined this game because I really like Nightflier's DMing style, and his stories, but also because it was a core game. Obviously I don't fit in with the multiple options group, and wouldn't have taken the time to make the character if I'd known what this was going to turn into. It was advertised as a core game, and that's what I expected. No hard feelings, and I'm not upset or anything...just not my style of game. So I'll just bow out before I cause more problems. Enjoy the game guys, and I'll keep reading, because like I said. I really like the story. .

I don't have a problem with the class (Still wonder what the source of it is), I just hope this doesn't open the flood gates. We've went from core only to Class AC bonus, and now a non core class. I think we need to severely limit what is available. This glut of options is what drove me away from 3.5.

Some of us ended Ileosa's reign of terror, some of us went to the Spires of Xin-Shalast to end an ancient evil. The Mad Queen's rein destroyed much of this city's capability to defend itself, both from those who want to gorge themselves on its soul from the inside and those from the outside who want this city to perish. None of us is native of Korvosa, but all of us came to love this city - and we want to defend it. That's why we decided to establish a society of Korvosa's born and adopted sons and daughters, society dedicated to preserving this city against all threats. We call it the Hourglass Society. And you, well some of you", he looks at Kristof, "have been invited to become parts of it. Do you accept?" Kristophe his pride coming around now that he had been found out, raises his head and makes eye contact with the men. "While not invited, I can offer you an advantage that my unfortunate benefactor cannot...I still breathe". "And, looking aside for a moment...how's the pay"?

Kristoph looks frantically to his right and then his left..."Who Me"? "Of course I belong here...look here's my invitation". He presents the tattered piece of paper. "I...I...I mean". "Well the person who provided the invitation won't be using it...and I...I...I mean I had nothing to do with his giving it up, I just...well...". "OK". "Look". "I found this on a dead guy...I didn't kill him, but I...well...I need to change my life, and...Just give me a chance".

Kristophe walks into the tavern, just as the lights dim, and the performance begins. Though he finds it difficult, he takes his eyes off the dance and surveys the room. He sees a couple of people open letters much like the one he now possesses, and breathes a sigh or relief. 'Good. It looks like they don't already know each other, all of them anyway. He is almost bowled over by a man leaving in a hurry, and decides to watch for a while to make sure he wants to be party to this group. He finally finds a stool near the door, against the wall when the individual who had been precariously perched upon it fell off and was dragged outside, and sipped his drink (Whatever is cheapest) and observes the room for a bit.
Male 1/2 elf Rogue 1
Kristophe pushed at the stiff body again with his toe. 'Yep that ones been here a while' he mused quietly to himself, a he knelt down to inspect the body more closely. He noted the two stab wounds around the kidney area, and then more importantly the small puncture wound on the back of the neck. 'hmm someone apparently hit this guy with a sleep dart, then killed him with a knife'. 'This is not the work of an amateur'. He then rolled the corpse over looking at the face...'Nope didn't know him'. Many of his acquaintances had kicked the bucket over the past three years, but this wasn't one of them. Then things got even stranger...his purse was still filled...not a lot of money, but why kill him and not take his money. He surveyed everything else the man had on him. Not much useful. Maybe this dagger would bring a few coppers in a pawn shop...but wait the shoes were nice. Well made and hardly worn. As he removed the left shoe, almost having to break the ankle to do so, a worn piece of paper fell out. Maybe fortune was changing after-all. Maybe this was one of those adventurer types. Couldn't hurt to at least check things out. Pocketing the money, invitation, and dagger, Kristophe left the corpse, and went back to the abandoned warehouse that served as his home...along with a dozen other out of work guards. Tomorrow would be a good day he decieded. Maybe the start of a new life. He was so excited he got there early. Hanging out on the street, and trying to blend in, wearing the best preserved parts of about three different guard outfits, he watched others enter the building...yeah definitely a meeting of adventurers. Most of them kind of stood out when you knew what to look for. Well here goes nothing he says as a particularly outlandish couple with a big white dog walked in...and he headed for the door. |
