Kragath odd at Jonas, "Sounds good to me Ser Medvyed. I suggest preparing any defensive measures before we go in. I'll be right with you." Kragath pulls his shield from his back and steps up to the entrance to see better what he is dealing with, then moves in. If anybody has a torch in case this is too dark to see I will carry it if people would like.
Kragath grins slightly, "I figure if trouble does arise, the first screams we hear won't likely be Gathien's." Taking on a more somber note, Kragath adds, "Don't start any unnecessary trouble if you can help it Gathien. Did out I that is indeed the den we seek then return. I hope to end this peacefully if we can."
Retconning in a response as all these replies seem to be timed before I left to set up first watch. Kragath listens to everyone's concerns before replying, "Yes, don't think that I intended to charge headfirst into their den. But to not learn what we are up against would be foolish. If we can come to some peaceable terms, that would be a priority as well."
Kragath sits by the fire, spinning the tip of his longsword in the ground and watching the flames dance off it's blade. He wasn't actually thinking about any one thing, but everything at once. There is a troubled look on his face that is obvious to all who attempt to speak with the man. As Gathien approaches, Kragath slides over to make room for the Halfling to join him at his spot next to the flame. He listens intently to the Gathien's council, hanging his head slightly at the mention of the trail being lost. He sits silently for but a moment before speaking, all the while staring into the flames reflection in his blade, "While you may be right, and we may not find their trail again, I would not forgive myself if these creatures made an assault on Oleg's while we continued our explorations elsewhere. I think it best to continue after their trail, even if it is only to continue on our last heading to explore that region thoroughly. Then we can turn back to the northeast and complete our initial circuit around Oleg's before returning to resupply. If we find nothing, we have only lost a day in turn for an even better understanding of our surroundings. If we find their den, we can potentially eliminate the threat they pose as well." I think we should continue after the direction of the kobold's tracks, which I believe is into the SE hex from our position. Explore that hex thoroughly, then if we find nothing, travel back up to the hex to what would then be the NE hex and continue our circuit. Kragath then turned to Gathien directly, a sincere look on his face, "I stand by what I said earlier, Gathien. You held yourself with superb skill while outnumbered greatly. If a lesser warrior had stood in your place, the group could have easily fallen to the increased threat those kobolds posed. I for one, am honored by your presence here." Kragath reaches his hand out to shake the halflings hand. When the gesture is reciprocated, Kragath's hand glows golden for a moment, and divine energy flows from his hand around Gathien for a moment. Lay on Hands 1d6 ⇒ 1 I went back to see how many HP's people had lost and regained, looked like Gathien was still short 1. Figured this as good a time as any to bust out my new abilities. Kragath, showing a brief moment of surprise followed by a renewed confidence, continues, "It would also seem that you have earned the favor of The Gold Fisted!" Kragath then leans over to Gathien, and feigns a whisper, "Don't tell Duckie, he'll just get jealous. I'd hate to see him quack up now..." Kragath then stands, and walks to the entrance of the Pavilion, "I will take first watch, try to get some rest everyone. We may have a big day ahead of us..." He then folds open the flap and steps back out into the night air, a look of joy and confidence on his face once again. So I have not let you down after all. I shall continue to do my best to deserve your grace and be your vassal on this world.
Right now I stand by my call of finishing off the exploration of this hex, then setting up camp somewhere in the SE portion of it, following the direction of the kobold tracks on the next day. As far as a consensus rule goes, I'm fine with that, especially with the sporadic nature of input in a PbP game. I mean, I'm trying to post and take a leadership role as much as I can, and I can tell Jonas is too. But with my work schedule it's been a bit rough. On the other hand, I also don't want to steal the reigns of the game, as I'm sure Jonas feels. Like, if the group got behind me or Jonas or whoever as leader then we just start pigeon holing the campaign, nobody would be having any fun cause they wouldn't feel like they had any input. So a 3 player consensus on direction sounds good to me. That way people have input, and IC very little changes. If you would like, Patcher, from now on when I make a post regarding travel plans, I can OOC place a clear description of what my suggestion is.
Kragath nods at Jonas' remark. "Yes, seeing as we have discovered another potential threat to Oleg's, we should try to eliminate it either through diplomacy or arms as necessary. Peregrine, should the situation arise, you think you could act as a translator?" Kragath at first seems insulted by the Alchemist's remark, but then offers up an uncomfortable retort. "Indeed, Lord Duck. Perhaps later you would be willing to give me some sparring lessons?" Changing the topic, Kragath continues, "Peregrine is correct, we need to relocate ourselves. I suggest we finish off exploring the immediate area, then set up camp somewhere to the East, so we can return to the patch and head off after the tracks in the morning. That way any kobolds that come searching for us might spend most of their time roaming around following our tracks from exploration and never even catch up to our camp before we head out. However, we do need to set up a watch rotation just in case."
Kragath also frowns at the mention that something was off about the kobolds. "I am not so certain, Ser Fetch, that these were not the warriors of their kind. They were all armed and proficient in the use of their weapons. I do not know much about Kobold society, however." As the captured kobold wakes up, Kragath will stay near the wobbly creature, and make sure that it never quite gets to it's feet well enough so that it could try to make a run for it. When Jonas mentions that Ingle can speak their language, he expectantly looks to the alchemist.
Kragath walks over to the sleeping Kobold amidst the pile of bodies amidst Gathien's wake of destruction, keeping the tip of his blade pointed at the lone survivor of the halfling's wrath. He looks at Gathien, "Impressive work," he whispers, then looking to the rest of the group he continues, "everyone, well done. These creatures may be small, but in such number could have easily dispatched a lesser group not trained for this sort of thing."
Kragath tries to dodge the attacks from the shorter creatures, nearly doing so succesfully, having only sustained a minor injury. Kragath glances briefly across the field and sees four more of the kobolds charge off and engage someone behind a tree. Those must be after Gathien, I must finish these two quickly and go help even the odds over there! Kragath then adjusts the swing of his blade, attempting to take advantage of the unsteady footing of the little combatant that charged at him carelessly. Power Attack on Kobold at S13
Kragath rises from his bedroll earlier than the rest of the expedition, feeling rejuvenated. He walks out of the tent quietly, strapping his sword to his waist as hendoes so. Once he feels the suns radiance as it peeks through the trees, he walks a small distance away from the tent and stands facing East, saying a silent prayer of thanks to Abadar. Once finished, he begins to quietly pack up the camp outside the tent so as to be ready to ride as soon as the rest awaken. yes, the plan was to go East and explore that hex.
Work tomorrow, then headed out of town this weekend. Will post when I can. If I can't, feel free to NPC Kragath in combat if necessary Patcher. I figure his gpfighting style is obvious by now. Stand there looking all tough and the like, get hit a couple times, and fall down. Shouldn't be too tough to replicate. ;-P
Once Kragath has his things together within the Pavilion, he notes that nobody else has entered the Pavilion yet. Kragath steps back out of the tent, out of his armor and with only his weapon at his side, and looks at his companions milling about the camp awkwardly. Perhaps I've got a fever and am seeing things. Jonas talking to the air, Peregrine wandering around the camp, Gathien playing with acorns... Kragath states, "Gentlemen, it's been a rough day thanks to the weather, and with this illness I've taken, I think," a sneeze interrupting his words, "I think I need to turn in early. Perhaps I can overcome this ailment during the night. If something is in desperate need of my assistance, however, feel free to wake me." Kragath then turns and walks back into the tent and falls asleep in his bedroll.
Not necessarily suggesting auto-pilot. Just trying to streamline things for your sake so that if a situation comes up that we can't post mid-exploration, we don't get bogged down waiting for people to find an opportunity to post. Especially if we happen to be in a hex that has nothing of interest anyway.
I am enjoying it all thus far. The exploration can be a bit slow...wish we could come up with a way to streamline that a bit in situations where we don't encounter things there. But from what you said earlier almost every hex has something going on in them. So not sure how to handle that. I suggest this: when we get back to Oleg's, before we set out again we already have it decided our planned route. Then, Patcher can easily flow our travel. Hexes we have explored we just ride through, hexes we haven we explore then move on. Unless something comes up to deviate our plan, we proceed as described. Also, as we venture further from Oleg's, it may be necessary to brin our wagon of supplies to help sustain our travels. Unless we find another place to use as base camp.
Kragath rides gloomily in his saddle, seldomly looking up from his stallion's neck. The hood of his cloak is kept drawn up over his head, and the sound of his snorts and coughs become common during the day. He hardly notices the various oddities that occur, even the acorn falling on his head barely managed to generate a response from him as he quietly brushed his hand on his hooded brow. When it is time for camp, Kragath goes straight to the pavilion and begins unpacking it. Gotta get a good nights rest. This cold could be the death of me at the rate I'm going. Abadar is certainly branding a sense of humility into me. I did not realize I had been so prideful before. I hope my suffering the past few days appeases his anger toward me. Once the greattent is raised, Kragath begins placing his things in his usual place within. Fort Save 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 Edit: forgot to apply sickened condition to my save. Shown roll result is correct.
Kragath dismounts from Simaron slowly, having grown tired from the day's travel in the storm. The rain's constant drum on his hooded head had almost driven him mad, the forest's canopy not providing much solace. He begins to help with preparing camp, looking at the soaked pavilion begrudgingly. "I don't think the Pavilion will do us much good tonight, unless you think we can get a fire going. In which case the heat generated from it's welcome embrace would also help to dry out our grand tent." Kragath walks over to Gathien, "Mind if I look at our map thus far?" Kragath glances over the book, "I think we should finish up this area, then circle back and head East, completing our first circuit of the area. Nothing has happened in this storm to lead me to change my mind about our path."
Kragath listens to everyone's suggestions then says, "Very well, Gathien's suggestion seems to be the best of both routes. This way we complete our initial assessment of the area as well as search for the river and the bandit camp." Kragath then goes and saddles up Simaron for the days ride. SW, explore that hex, trying to end up on eastern border unless a discovery changes our plan.
Kragath turns in his saddle after having reigned Simaron away from the Troll, nocks an arrow, and lets it fly at the troll, attempting to buy the group time to maneuver their own steeds. Was looking for any penalty for shooting a bow from horseback, but could not find any. Action this round is to draw my bow, and turn/move my horse it's movement away from the troll. If we are going to try to kill this thing as a group from range, I suggest we scatter. If we are running, we should flee as a group. Next round's action: Shoot the arrow I just described in character, regardless of what we decide to do. When the group decides, I move accordingly. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 91d8 ⇒ 7
Kragath's eyes widen as the creature lumbers into view. He then quickly looks left and right at his companions. "We are in no condition to fight this fight. Way I see it we have two options, we flee on horseback, or we use the horses to maintain distance and try to slay this monster from range. Either way, we need to be putting distance between ourselves and it...now!" Kragath pulls on Simaron's reigns, turning the horse sharply. Also, he pulls the longbow from where it had been strapped to the horse's flank, and holds it in his left hand.
"I appreciate the thought, Ingle. However I think I will hang onto it until it is absolutely necessary. If I have no need for it by the time Rorgrym or natures will replenishes my strength, I will return it to you. No need to use up a precious resource such as this unless absolutely necessary." @ work. More later
Jonas Medvyed wrote: Overall that went well. The strategy was sound Ser Lightbringer, we just needed to carry out your plan better. Kragath again chuckles, regretting it immediately, then looks to Jonas kneeling next to him, "Really Ser Medvyed? I thought it went, ungh, flawlessly." Kragath winces as he fights snickering through his reply. Kragath looks around, then reaches out to Jonas, "Here, help me up." Once Kragath is to his feet, he looks around for a nice large, flat area a decent distance away from the carcass. Seeing one slightly to the East, he tilts his head that direction, trying to draw Jonas' attention. "How about over there, I know it's not too far away from the bear, but in mine and Gathien's condition, I think horseback travel might not be the best of ideas, and I don't know how well we'd handle a long hike either."
