The UK PFS Venture Officers are looking to arrange a number of PFS tables at Indiecon this year, for both new and established players. The PFS presence will not be on the same scale as at Conception (Indiecon is at the same venue in Dorset), but we are interested in getting some cross-pollination of gaming and gaming styles.

We encourage established PFS players and GMs to join us there, and hope that they will also enjoy the large number of other games available at the convention. The organisers have once again extended a warm welcome to Pathfinders and we hope that will be returned with some enthusiastic joining in of the many games on offer.

Chris and Dave will be there to organise the tables. So if you are going and wish to help with PFS GM-ing, or would like to see certain scenarios being run, please contact either Chris Brockley-Blatt or Dave Harrison.

Also contact Chris if you would like help finding people to share a lodge.

I am very proud to announce a field promotion from the ranks.
Chris Brockley-Blatt is now the Pathfinder Society Venture-Lieutenant for Brighton in the UK.

Thank you for being crazy enough to accept this commission!

I am very happy to announce that we have another 5 star GM in the UK - the (in)famous Crispy has been awarded his 5th star for services rendered to the Pathfinder Society UK Grand Lodge.

an iconic figure in the UK Pathfinder community. He is (in)famous as a lethal GM who is considered tough but fair - playing opponents with all of the tactical expertise they are given and just enough malicious glee to let you know they are the villains (and that Crispy is just channeling them!) so that every player knows they have won a victory or been fairly defeated by the scenario.

I first met him at our second PaizoCon UK where he was willing to step into the breach and GM a table of the special event at incredibly short notice. He did a wonderful job and had players asking for more. Along with his wife, Tonya, he has regularly invited many Pathfinders to his home and was the inspiration behind the very successful Crispycon in the UK.

At conventions, he is an absolute star - always willing to run games for everybody, even running additional games in out of hours slots. He has encouraged many new players to join the Pathfinder Society and I would hold him up as an excellent example of a Pathfinder Society GM. We are very lucky to have him here in the UK at the moment!

----
And a few other comments:

Crispy is quite unnaturally talented and I am convinced he and his family come from Krypton (because they are all brilliant, too)! He is fantastic raconteur, he role-plays his NPCs with complete immersion and often brings a palpable sense of menace to the game. He eats rules for breakfast and knows how to use them to entertain or to threaten. He involves all his players and treats them with great respect and fairness. On top of that, this prince among men is highly cultured and charming. He is the best ambassador for the game that I know. I just love playing on his tables and his 5-star rating is very well earned.

Rob Silk
------
He is without a doubt a fantastic GM and one of the best ambassadors for Pathfinder you could hope to find. His knowledge about the world of Golarion is incredible, no matter where a module takes you he can describe the location in depth, knows any notable NPCs, and has a wealth of background that enriches the game.

He plays the bad guys so well that you get some great RP encounters, and you come away from the tougher fights knowing you did well to survive. Importantly, though he does play the bad guys as tough as they are written he isn't a bully and I have never known him pick on a player - he's scrupulously fair.

He's always willing to take the time to explain what's going on properly and help people navigate the rules if they're not as familiar with them as he is and does everything possible to make sure that all players get their chance to shine.

Crispy deserves this. He's a five star GM if ever there was one.

Carol T
-----
Paizocon UK 2011 was my first con and Crispy was one of the first GM’s I had. I still remember the game as being one of the most fun and immersive I ever had in the 20 years of roleplaying. Crispy has a way of bringing the world around you alive and making you fully part of that world. He made me realise that I wanted to come to conventions and was my inspiration to become a GM.

Crispy is one of the best

Chris BB
------
Chris is a tireless refereeing machine who relentlessly pushes the game along with humour and wry comments. His firm but fair approach leaves no-one in any doubt of his knowledge of the rules or feeling for the game. You come away from his table certain you've earned every xp, gp and pp on your sheet.

Phil B
-----
I have always enjoyed playing in Crispy's games, and strive to get at least one game on his table at conventions. He has an expansive knowledge of the rules and the setting and is great at keeping the excitement levels up. I had the opportunity to play "Day of the Demon" at CrispyCon last year on his table, and all i can say is WOW, what a ride.

I'd like to direct everybody's attention to a new star in the PFS firmament - my partner-in-crime, Venture Captain Rob Silk has been awarded his 5th star.

This will come as no surprise to anybody who has met him. Rob is an excellent GM and a tireless champion of Pathfinder Society, making sure that PaizoCon UK and our website run smoothly and always being there to help. This is very well-deserved.

Thank you Rob!

Last year we ran 81 tables of Pathfinder Society adventures at Conception. This year we are going to try to hit 100! Come and join us as we make the attempt. We pride ourselves on being the friendliest living campaign and you are welcome to join us as a complete beginner or as an old veteran.

The adventures are not finalised but we aim to run the latest, hottest adventures that have been released in time to allow our GMs to prepare them properly. But we will also run older adventures and special introductory games that will ease your character into the campaign and give you a chance to meet the mysterious faction leaders who may persuade you to undertake their dirty work.

So avoid playing adventures from this provisional list if you want to play them at Conception:

HOT NEW adventures

#3-09: The Quest for Perfection—Part I: The Edge of Heaven Levels 1–5
In the distant land of Tian Xia, the Pathfinder Society's Lantern Lodge sends a team of agents high into the mountains of the Wall of Heaven to an abandoned Iroran monastery in search of a powerful relic to assist them in ensure victory in the upcoming Ruby Phoenix Tournament. Though the monastery has long laid unused by the faithful of the Master of Masters, it is not completely devoid of danger, and the PCs soon discover that merely retrieving the ancient artifact is but the beginning of a much larger quest.

#3-10: The Immortal Conundrum Levels 5–9
When the Pathfinder Society receives an invitation to a dinner party at the Thuvian Embassy, hosted by the guardian of this year's six doses of the infamous sun orchid elixir, the Decemvirate sends a team of Pathfinders to represent them and uncover the nature of the event. Can the PCs navigate the complex social landscape of Absalom's elite and gain access to the mysterious vault known as the Conundrum, or will they face public ridicule or worse in the face of the steepest competition in the Inner Sea?

#3-11: The Quest for Perfection—Part II: On Hostile Waters Levels 1–5
With an ancient Iroran relic in hand, the Pathfinders must make a long river voyage to the inland nation of Shokuro to return it to the only person who can reactivate the long-dormant artifact. Whether dangers take the form of goblinoid menaces on the shores of Kaoling to the north or the powerful armies of Lingshen to the south, the Pathfinders' journey will be anything but a pleasure cruise. Can the PCs survive hostile waters to safely reach their destination, or will they fall victim to the perils of river travel in Tian Xia?

#3-12: Wonders in the Weave—Part I: The Dog Pharaoh's Tomb Levels 5–9
On an isolated demiplane, the Pathfinders explore an Osirian ruin transported from Golarion by a powerful sorcerer centuries ago. And though the Pathfinder Society believes the fruits of their delve to be ripe for the picking, the unnatural landscape surrounding the tomb and a run-in with an unexpected guest make getting out with the treasure a tough task for the PCs.

Special Event

Blood over Absalom Levels 1-11
The big event! Multi table, multi level, special event for Conception 2012. Don't miss this!

Recent releases

#3-07: Echoes of the Overwatched Levels 1–5

#3-08: Among the Gods Levels 3–7
The Pathfinder Society sends the PCs to the mountaintop mausoleum and monument known as Antios's Crown in search of a long-lost relic believed to be contained there, but all is not as it seems. A wizard can 'enchant' their arcane bond object as if they had the requisite item creation feats. So I was wondering if a wizard could inscribe a spell on their bonded object as if it was a scroll. With scrolls, it is only the writing that disappears, so the bonded object would remain after the spell had been cast from it. So you could have a spell inscribed upon the back of your amulet, for instance.

Is that the intention of the rules? Is there anything that would rule against this interpretation? I don't think it would be overpowering to have a wizard doing this. Though you might need to set a limit of how many spells the object could hold.

The UK Venture Captains of PaizoCon UK will be giving out missions at a number of UK conventions.

16th-18th October in Manchester at Game '09.
This will be the first UK convention where we'll be using the Pathfinder rules.

30th-31st October in Telford at Oddcon
27-31st January 2010 at Conception

And probably a few others between now and PaizoCon UK 2010. (Any suggestions/invitations?)

I'd definitely be interested in a Paizocon - I might not get to play again until Gencon otherwise.

I originally made a light-hearted suggestion of setting up a Paizocon UK and it seems to have attracted some enthusiasm. So I thought I'd see if there was some serious interest in such.

So what do people think?
Could we organise something perhaps for June or July in the UK, one weekend of plenty of PFS games?

The Exchange 5/5 Regional Venture-Coordinator, Western Eurasia-Middle East aka Wintergreen

Conception starts on the 28th January and there are official games of Pathfinder Society happening. So I was just wondering who from these boards was going along?

I'm down to run some of the latest scenarios and will also try to run some of the older scenarios if there is interest.

Hope to see some of you from GenCon UK there.

So there are now a lot of threads about submissions to the open call for pathfinder scenarios. I've put one of my submissions up and got some very helpful and welcome feedback. But I don't think I've got the time to give feedback to others at present. It seems to me that what we all really want is advice on how to write the next pathfinder society scenario (or indeed getting any scenario published).

What advice do people have for getting their scenarios published? Is there anything we should be reading? I've picked up a copy of the Kobold guide to adventure design volume 1. It seems pretty good (thoug I've not had the time to read beyond the first chapter). Beyond RPG writing, I found Stephen King's 'On Writing' has some (surprisingly , to me) excellent advice for a writer.

Anybody got nay other recommendations or advice to offer?

The Exchange 5/5 Regional Venture-Coordinator, Western Eurasia-Middle East aka Wintergreen

I'm planning to run at least one of the new Pathfinder Society scenarios on Sunday 19th October (exact time and location to be decided, most probably Mists of Mwangi). I've got at least 3 players signed up but people from these boards would be welcome so I thought I would see if there were any takers. So let me know if you're interested.

I'm curious as to how long people spend playing through an adventure. So how much real time (not in game time) does a group take to do an adventure from Dungeon say?

To give a bit of background, I'm currently running a party of 5 PCs through The Three Faces of Evil from Dungeon #125. We play regularly on a Friday night spending about 4 hours gaming. So how many weeks would you expect that adventure to take?
