EIther this Helgi is a ringer of some kind, or Antonio is being set up to kill a man with absolutely no business being in such a fight. One way or another, it's going to be a massacre... Antonio will be a pariah for such a slaughter if he wins and dead if he loses... either way, he loses. Kithariel frowns in consternation...
Kithariel bites her lip, worried about Antonio, but shows no other outward sign of her concern. "Do be careful, Anton, you know not this man's skills and capabilities... I'd not like to see you die." she whispers to him.
"To the death? I only heard the 'drawing of blood' stuff... are you sure it's to the death?" Kithariel looks horrified.
Kithariel beams momentarily with a mix of pride and satisfaction, but accepts her award with humility. She stands with the others to listen to the challenge, and lofts a brow with surprise as Antonio volunteers. She whispers to him. "Are you sure you know what you're getting into?"
That's awesome! a retirement cabin! too cool... I do understand what you're going through tho... I bought a house in 1994 right after the Northridge quake and went through hell with the contractors getting the repairs completed properly before escrow could close... sigh... Hope you enjoy your new place!

A dwarven mercenary once said he sounded like he was from south of Aerdy lands, but there's nothing down there except the Vast Swamp, so how can that be right?" After that, she starts preparing herself for the archery contest, taking a few minutes to meditate and clear her mind... then checking her equipment, restringing her bow if necessary...
Kit listens carefully to all she hears about this Larko fellow, and asks "What lies to the east of here that he'd want to join the patrols that specifically go that direction? Have you ever been on a patrol with him? Does he meet anyone when he goes east? Or do anything odd or strange?" To the barmaid, she will nod and look at her with understanding. "Men do tend to get a bit handsy with women. It does not look pleasant, and if their attentions are unwelcome, slap them.. or let me know and I'll shoot them in the hand for you." She smiles at her a bit conspiratorially and winks broadly, but she means it. "If his accent is wrong for the Great Kingdom... what sort of accent DOES he have? Can you tell? It makes me wonder where he's actually from and why he wants to conceal that information."
Kithariel heads to the lunch tables before the pugilist even begins, not wanting to watch the folks pummeling each other.

Kithariel watches avidly, staying fairly quiet though she does let out a soft 'whoop' of delight when Antonio hits a bullseye.
Kithariel watches and listens, shocked at the news of so much war and devastation, though the full concept of it is a little lost on her, as her knowledge of the world outside her own homeland is scant... Still, she gets the gist and takes a staggering stop back. "This is horrible news... is there anything we can do. waiting here to see what unfolds isn't a real option... We have to do SOMEthing!"
in the garden: "You are lucky to have begun with estrangement and developed a fondness ... too many times have I heard of marriages for fondness that end in bitterness and estrangement. And your garden is lovely. What a blessing to have such a haven.... as for searching in the hills... You make me curious... what is this 'worse' you speak of?"
Kit will wander out the gardens, not with any real intent, just that she'd feel more comfortable among the flora... but while there, she'll attempt to strike up a conversation with the lady... "Hello, My Lady... do you mind my presence here? I can depart if I am disturbing you... but if not, I would love to stay and speak with you, if I may. You seem to hold much sway in your Lord's court. I find that refreshing. Might I ask you how you came to be Lady here? I mean to say, was your marriage one of convenience? or attraction? or perhaps a mix of the two?"
"I've no real training with any manufactured melee weapons, though there are a few I've used... staff, some blades, that sort of thing, but I am master of none of them, only the bow... Of course, if cornered, my whole body is a weapon... I am not helpless without my bow." she smiles at him with a little glint in her eye.
KIth notices the fashions of the lord and lady, and lofts a brow as their significance comes clear to her. Not sitting near anyone she knows, she turns to the lady next to her and remarks, "They make a fine couple don't they, your lord and lady, that is. Very handsome indeed. I love their modes of dress and customs! But I wonder why he thinks we are here to bring harm.. that is so not true!"
"Kithariel of clan Eldravin" Kit says, avoiding offering her nickname and courtesies as well as she can without benefit of proper skirts and such. She walks to the lady's side of the table, and takes a seat not too far, but not too close to the lady, indicating, she hopes, that she has some rank, but not a high one.
Kit reluctantly hands over her bow and quiver,having no other weapons to surrender. She gives a little wistful smile as her bow is stashed away and her fingers curl as if she was still holding it... she sighs... "I'm ready."
"Seems they found something different to do other than hang around an inn.. shall we go see what they've been up to?"
Kit jumps off the table, and walks over to Antonio, hearing only the last of his exchange with the waitress... "Yes, enough excitement, I think. I expected them to come to blows. Shall we join the others at the Mountain Hearth or just return?"
Kit moves back a little, towards a dark unoccupied corner... she'll try to tug Tony to go with her, but if he's unmovable, she'll go alone. if there's truly no one in the corner, she'll stand on the table there to have a good view of what's going on,
"I'd just as soon stay out of it, to be honest... either leave or hide in a corner til it's over, but if we MUST get involved, I'm with you regarding this business of picking a side."
"I guess the closest word in elvish for a huskarl would be ohtar... Your lives sound very valorous! I don't know that Tanariel is our Lord... she is a fine Lady elf who leads our small group I guess... though she is not with us tonight..." She lowers her voice so as not to be overheard by the newcomers. "You don't seem to like these Dragonfangs much. What have they done to incur your dislike?"
Kit smiles at the question, does her best not to laugh aloud at the ridiculous nature of it, as she doesn't want to make fun of any of these clansmen. "I've not heard of any elves that can do that. It is true that we are not particular about the gender of our partners... when you live as long as we do, any activity, no matter how pleasant, can become quite tiresome after a while. Perhaps that is where such a notion might come from." She smiles at the fellow, but without mocking, coyness or flirtatious affectation...
"The Bearclaw Clan? sounds quite fierce. I don't mean to offend, but might I ask... What exactly is a huskarl?"
Kit smiles at the queries, but doesn't laugh, as they are good questions. "I am woman elf, and no, I'm not a snow elf... My people have always dwelt in warmer lands. My hair is unusual in color among my folk. Most have yellowish hair, though brown and red are common too." She twirls a lock of hair and pulls it to the front so even she can see it while she answers. "Perhaps one of these 'snow elves' you speak of was an ancestor in the distant past." "Would you tell me about your different clans? if you don't mind me asking, that is."
"Yes, yes I am... have you not met one of my kind before? I'd be happy to answer your questions if you have any."
Kithariel stays silent and decline the offered drink. "Thank you for the offer Antonio, but I think I'll keep a clear head here." She looks around wide-eyed at the folk in the main room.
"Well the other place, what was it, the mountain hearth? Sounds more pleasant. But I'm guessing that's not what you're after, is it? I'm going where you go. Let's try it, we can always leave if it's too rough a place."
"I'll join you, Antonio... let's see this place."
"that is the operative statement, eh? 'Evil magic' as opposed,to just 'magic'."
"As you wish... " She will relate what she senses from the man when the party is alone: "I don't think Aerdy Conrad is well liked by the Jarl... probably because he uses magic and comes from the Great Kingdom."
" And where do we find Aerdy Conrad then?"
Not sure how much to tell them... but nothing ventured, nothing gained, I've heard it said. "We are searching for something... an ancient relic. We were sent here and told to begin by seeking a scholar named Ragmas, an Oeridian fellow, who might tell us more about it."

Kit hands over eight gold for new woolen pants, tunic, cloak, gloves, hat and boots, making sure first that the pants and tunic will fit her. "Thank you good sir, I am sure these will do just fine."
