caps here. I created this character for another campaign that the GM ditched before we made it very far. I would need to rework the crunch (the GM was allowing some specific 3pp material) and that might lead to a few fluff tweaks, but I like the character concept a lot from an RP perspective. You can see a dozen examples of his RP in his posts from that campaign (he has 16 posts total). I will repost his "fluff" in a spoiler here so you don't have to dig it out of his profile:
Fluff:
Step 1: Write 5 background and concept elements that you feel are important to your image of the character. These can be a concept overview, a list of important life events, a physical description, a personality profile...whatever you need to get an image in your mind. 5 is just a minimum...more elements are encouraged!
Scraggly graying beard, hair a mix of white, gray, and dark. Sometimes it is tied back, but never very well, so that many strands are loose. Teeth are in okay condition but are rather crooked. Piercing gray/blue eyes. Face craggy and wrinkled. Deep scratchy voice.
Step 2: List at least two goals for the character. At least one of these goals should be one that the character has, while another should be one that you, as a player, want to see developed over the course of the game. Kinnith is mostly looking to survive the harsh winters of the north lands without angering the gods, his neighbors, or the land and its creatures. He sees himself as part of a larger whole; he would never say or think anything of "balance" in a yin-yang sense, but he has learned that there is a natural rhythm to nature and he would seek to stop those who would disrupt that rhythm. His desire to avoid angering the gods also sometimes becomes a drive to actively please them. He is not generally a driven or goal-oriented man, however.
Step 3: List at least two secrets about your character. One is a secret the character knows, one is a secret that involves him but that he is not actually aware of yet. This will help me in creating plots that center around your character. Kinnith has been married three times; he was widowed once, divorced once, and cuckolded once. He is still legally married to his last wife, but has not seen her in several years. He believes he has no heir.
Step 4: Describe at least three people that are tied to the character. Two of them are friendly to the character, one is hostile. If you like, you can include an enemy of yours here as well, so I have an instant NPC nemesis to throw at you. His second wife hated him because of his outdoorsy habits. His third wife still likes him but is upset at him for leaving.
Step 5: Describe three memories, mannerisms, or quirks that your character has. They don't have to be elaborate, but they should provide some context and flavor. He doesn't keep himself very clean.
I do not use or possess Herolab. I am happy to post my stat blocks using a template that Herolab generates, but I prefer to write them up myself, manually.

Kinnith helps with the grave and burial, but seems a little uncomfortable with the intimacy of being present for the man's words over the grave afterwards. He is silent through the journey. At the greeting voice, he stops and looks about for its origin. At the minotaur's response, he chews his lip. That retort might get us killed. -Posted with Wayfinder

As Kinnith takes in the scene and realizes what he is witnessing, he sighs deeply and slowly stands up. This must be war. Gods, will you ever let me escape the battlefield? He pulls his pack off of his back, his face grim with world-weariness. Whoever has done this has disrupted this land. They must be brought to heel. With a look of distaste he unwraps the sheathed greatsword from its blanket trappings. He leans the sword against a tree as he restows and rearranges his gear and pack. Then he sets the sword on his shoulder and retrieves his longspear. Using the spear as a walking stick, he joins the party by the wounded man, but his eyes scan the surrounding woods, looking for more signs of movement. The cause of all this cannot be too far away. These bodies are too fresh. -Posted with Wayfinder

how did the trollkin attack me from an adjacent space with a longspear? Kinnith steps back from the trollkin, making room to use his weapon effectively. Trollkin. By the gods. He drives his spear at the trollkin with an old man's grunt. longspear, attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 for cold iron, piercing: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 -Posted with Wayfinder

I am doing a special training thing at work. It is pretty disruptive to my normal schedule, so I don't know what posting will look like for me this week. Bot me if necessary. Given downtime and an expectation of more vioence, Kinnith will take the time to reveal his Greatsword. Generally he will do switch-hitting: attack with his Longbow until all targets have soft cover or are in melee range, then switch to melee weapon. -Posted with Wayfinder

note that Kinnith only needs to be 10' away to engage. He threatens a 10' square with his longspear. "Cease this arson!" Kinnith shouts and threatens with his spear. This will turn to violence. I am sure of it. readied attack should they be hostile -Posted with Wayfinder

The old man--scraggly graying beard, hair a mix of white, gray, and dark, barely tied back with many strands loose--looks over the landscape. His gray-blue eyes take it in. He smiles for a moment, ah, this is home. Then he frowns. Oh gods, what did I do that you would trick me into this? How did I get here? What did I get myself into? He looks around, realizing that his companions are speaking. He pats his chest. "Name's Kinnith. I'm a woodsman; tracker." He doesn't reply to the minotaur's demeaning comments about his skill except to stare the bull in the eyes for a full minute before turning away. GM, is there a particular accent he should have as a northlander? He absentmindedly sets to following the party as they move towards the smoke. He doesn't pay much attention to the topic of conversation, seeming much more preoccupied with studying the woods around them and trying to get a sense of anything that might be out there. -- Trolls. Trolls are no good. Trolls, kobolds, and fires are even worse. He moves after the bull and pulls out his longspear. Is this what you would have me do? Is this why I am here? To stop these trolls from destroying this village? 30' move toward the trollkin + kobolds Trollkin = trolls, right? |
