Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec raises his crossbow at the necromancer. "Your time of creating such abominations has come to an end!"

Smiting (AC is now 21 vs. Necro if he is evil, Kerrec is putting hard earned coin on it that he is)

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Damage: 1d20 + 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (9) + (3) + 4 = 16

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec loads a bolt into his crossbow.

"It will be nice having the element of surprise on our side for once."

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec looks down at his hands in astonishment, truly surprised at the turn of events with Grayst. He shakes his head at Grayst's charred dead body still wondering as to what this Skinsaw Man might be.

Seeing the others have secured the orderlies and the doctor, the paladin's anger rises, realizing the doctor probably knew more than he was letting on about Grayst's condition. He waits for the orderly to respond.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec looks down on Grayst, conflicted. Shaking his head in frustration, he calls upon Abadar for healing and lays his hand over the bolt wound.

Hoping I roll low....

Lay on hands: 1d6 ⇒ 3

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec, alarmed that the bolt did not fell Grayst, loads his crossbow (will take AoO to do so) and once again fires at the man.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (8) + (5) + 2 = 15

"I am Abadar's."

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec loads his crossbow as Grayst advances on him. He levels the crossbow at Grayst. "Who is the Skinsaw Man, Grayst? Why must I join him?"

Kerrec will hold his action. If Grayst looks like he is going to attack him he will fire his crossbow at him. If not, he will fire at rat-man.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (7) + (2) + 2 = 11

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Sorry this is the first time I've visited the website in almost a month. Life got in the way there for a little while.

Kerrec raises his crossbow at the strange rat-like creature. He asks Abadar to see into the creature's very nature. Detect Evil.

"Pidget....."

If the creature pings as evil, Kerrec will fire at Pidget. If he does not, Kerrec will think he's just mentally ill and under the influence of the staff at the hospital. He'll hold his action but will fire at him if he attempts to attack anyone.

Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + (5) + 2 = 8

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

"We should also find those who knew the victims well. Perhaps they know of any enemies they might of had."

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Hmmm.... yes I guess that could have been worded better. I guess it was a fancy way of saying I've really put a lot into Will Saves. ;-).

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec grows concerned about the nature of Vidar's book. He would pull Vidar aside to speak with him privately about it. Questions he would ask would lean toward ascertaining if it was trying to take over his mind at all and would offer his services to help if that is the case explainig to him that he has trained himself specifically for such circumstances.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Pier

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Murder Scene

Survival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Harkers Body

Heal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

The grizzly scene overwhelms Kerrec's senses. The violence is painful to look at. Kerrec notices only blood and gore. The paladin steps outside with Camillo and easily sees the footprints heading into the mill. Returning with the bard, the fresh air has helped Kerrec get his mind in a better place.

"I pity poor Ibor. It must have been quite a shock to come upon this scene."

Going over what the others have postulated thus far through their investigative skills, "So a clawed creature, perhaps undead, entered the mill coming from the pier. It attacked Harker and Katrine but one of them was able to defend themselves with an axe. In the end, their assailant got the upper hand, pushing Katrine into the wood chipper and ending Harker's life. The murderer then goes about with a ritual desecration involving an ancient Thassilonian rune. The killer drops a note off for me and then leaves the same way he came."

Kerrec shakes his head, trying to understand it all. Addressing Vidar, "Did the Thassilonians practice ritualized killings?"

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec nods his head in understanding regarding Thorn.

"Well in that case Sherrif, please, lead the way."

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Tagging on to Kithian's thoughts about suspects. "And perhaps we could speak to whomever discovered the bodies."

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

"Whose lives were lost sherrif?"

Kerrec hopes it is no one they know.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec's face drains of color as he reads the parchment. He hands it back to Hemlock, standing up straight as he stares the man in the eyes.

"You should keep this as evidence Sherrif," Kerrec says. "I can provide for my where abouts last night and witnesses to corroborate what I say to be thr truth."

Looking at his comrades. "The murderer seems to want to have romantic relationship of some kind with me. I do not know if it's a man or woman to be quite honest."

Kerrec points toward the parchment. "If anyone is skilled at gaining insight from a person' handwriting, feel free to look over the letter."

Kerrec tries to keep his composure as he finishes. Those that know him well can tell he is seething but is doing his best to remain outwardly calm.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

To the guards Kerrec shrugged his shoulders as Vidar responded letting them know Vidar's mercurial personality is as much a mystery to him as it would be to them. The paladin feels better when he sees Vidar realize his grumpiness might have been uncalled for.

Kerrec hands over the paperwork to the sherrif when he arrives, assuring him it is all properly taken care of.

He waits for Hemlock's response to Vidar's whispered question.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec hands the letter to Camillo. "I think she'd would appreciate you giving her this."

The paladin will follow Vidar to the sheriff's office.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec, invigorated by the days proceedings, is in a fine mood. He wishes Orik luck as he heads out of the court room and follows the others anywhere they would like to go in thd city.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Finally Kerrec feels completely at ease. He will go the temple for Abadaran business (whatever that might be) and whenever the prisoner escort is needed he will be there.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec pulls out the paperwork and hands it to the captain. "As you can see, as Master Stillman said, the list of charges is long."

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec, deep in morning meditation, does not initially hear the screams. When he hears his name, the trance is broken. Striding quickly toward the commotion, he sees Vidar and Rullis observing the body. The amount of wounds shock him.

Heal: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Addressing his comrades: "Animal attack? Some fell beast perhaps?"

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Nothing else for Kerrec for the day.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Looking around the tavern.

"Camillo, if I was you I would not let Vidar hear you call his meals that," Kerrec replies. "I suspect I will be eating grule or something less pleasant the rest of the trip due to my unintended insult. You probably do not want to share my fate."

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

"For the ales, I am paying for the first round of the ales," Kerrec replies. "And your lunch special sounds fine to me as well."

Once the boy leaves, Kerrec says to his comrades. "It seems these dead animals are not limited to what we ran across two days ago."

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Pointing at the long table with open seats, "It seems there should suffice."

Once the server arrives Kerrec will order some drinks and give the server an extra silver stating, "Just in case you have heard any news from the travelers coming from Magnimar."

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec blushes himself realizing he unintentionally took a swipe at Vidar's cooking.

"I was more talking about actually sitting in a chair and eating at a table, instead of using rocks to sit on and the ground to place my food," Kerrec explains to the others. Looking after Vidar's wake, "I probably should wait for him to calm down before I explain myself, yes?"

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec's mood brightens as the group gets closer to Magnimar. There is something about the bustle of a city that Kerrec has always enjoyed. Seeing it's lunch-time when they come across the tavern and Kerrec is feeling a bit charitable...

"Perhaps we can sit down for a real meal here," Kerrec suggests. "First round is on me."

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Sorry about the silence. Forgot to post that I was going to a gaming con this weekend and would not be available.

Kerrec watches all of this from afar, not interested in gaining any items from the tribal squabble. It seems the Shoanti laws were abided by in this situation and he takes note of how things were settled in case he is involved in such matters in the future. He will make sure the prisoners are secure and will bed down for the night.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Ah yes... add +1 for Kerrec as well.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Seeing that it seems the singing Shoanti is the only one going to emerge from the fog, Kerrec turns toward the tribesman attacking Kithian. Shaking his head in frustration at this needless violence, Kerrec wordlessly fires at the Shoanti engaged with Kithian.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Damage: 1d8 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + (5) + 1 = 8

Add one to attack and damage if Kerrec is withing 30 feet.

Kerrec will not move and load his crossbow.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec looks down in dismay at the dent in his new armor and raises his crossbow at the bank of fog. Shouting at their adversaries. "I pray there is a better way to deal with this than with violence! Stand down so we may sort this out! If not, we will be forced to deliver road-side justice!"

Kerrec hold his action until he sees a tribesman come from the fog in a threatening manner. If that's the case, he will fire.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + (3) + 1 = 6

Add one to the totals if adversary is within 30 feets.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec's eyebrow's raise in alarm at Kithian's apology. Through clenched teeth. "What is going on here?"

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec has crossbow out and loaded, looking toward the west.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec did not think Rullis was being serious so he does not plan on binding her that way unless the others are really that worried. Kerrec does not see her as a dangerous flight risk.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

If no one objects, Kerrec will gag her and take her manacles off with not a word exchanged with her.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Once the body has burned Kerrec is ready to go.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec nods in agreement with Vidar. "You are right Sir Ekstrand. Burning would be the only way to assure the safety of the populace."

Kerrec sets about to find wood to set a pyre.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec gets off the cart and strides over to the body. "We're not going to let this body rot on the side of the road, especially if something unnatural, possibly disease, aided in his demise."

Kerrec will examine the body for any means of identification. He'll also dig a grave and bury the body (by himself if others unwilling), taking care to have his gaunlets on when touching the body and tying rag around his mouth when in close proximity to the corpse.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

When Kerrec hears Vidar's warning, his instincts take over. Arming his crossbow he stands atop the wagon looking for any danger.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

I don't want to hold things up so Kerrec will attempt to counsel Orik over the course of their watch with a heavy dose of the teachings of Abadar and will continue to do so over the course of the trip.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec was going to test Orik's temperature.

During first watch, Kerrec unshackles Orik and gives him his dagger. "It would be difficult to defend our camp if you were bound and without a weapon," Kerrec explains.

Studying the mercenary for a moment. "Vidar believes that your reasons for helping us at Thistletop do not matter. The mere fact that you did turn on your comrades and come to our aid should be a large factor in our help in lessening whatever punishment will be meeted out in Magnimar. My view differs. Why you did it is almost as important as your actions."

"Kithian was wrong. I've done things in the past in order to survive that I am not proud of. But once I found Abadar, I vowed to change and work for a cause that was about more than just my selfish needs."

Kerrec studies his holy symbol and then continues. "I have dedicated my life to Abadar. The Master of Masters teaches us that those who fail in aiding the further progress of civilization through dishonest means are a pox upon all of us. If I am to help you - and believe me I can, chances are you will be facing an Abadaran magistrate in Magnimar - I need to know if the second chance you will be given will not be wasted. Right now I am looking at a man who has made many bad decisions. Do not think for a second that I believe that you have hurt only low-life scum or people that really deserved it. When one's life is dedicated to just their own needs, it can't be helped that innocent people will be hurt in the process. Selfish choices have led you to be shackled to a cart. Your fate is now left up to others. Speak honestly, perhaps for the first time in many years. I want to hear what you plan to do with your life if given a second chance."

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec listened intenntly to Orik and Lyrie over the course of the day, keeping his thoughts to himself.

After setting up his bedroll, Kerrec will approach Orik. "You and I will be taking first watch tonight."

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec breathes in the fresh air, enjoying the open road.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec will ride in front of the wagon.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec arrives promptly, although he was almost late due to taking extra time to polish his armor to a bright shine. He will inform the others when they arrive that Father Zantus has offered to bless the group before the journey when we pick up funds from the cathedral. He offers the prisoners the opportunity as well.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

So, my home group was playing Skull and Shackles last night when a TPK occurred. We were 2nd level and I thought I would have a lot longer time playing instead of DM'ing (like at least a year). Unfortunately due to the early end of the campaign it was now my turn up to run a game and they want to play Tne Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition (I had promised to run it for them at some point because I was already playing in it).

This of course leaves me in a bind for this campaign. I'd love to keep playing but in a few months I'm going to catch up to this game in terms of where the campaigns are at. If Devon doesn't feel comfortable with me playing because of the knowledge I am going to have I totally understand. I just wanted to fully disclose what was happening with my home group.

Thanks.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Kerrec bows. "The Master of Master's blessing upon you Lady Mayor."

Kerrec wordlessly takes his leave. He will settle up at the inn, notify the church of incoming funds, stipend 100GP to the church and then meet the others.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

Looking at the mayor and sherrif. "I am assuming Sandpoint has money in its budget for the transportation of prisoners to Magnimar?"

Kerrec is somewhat pointed in his question, making it be known he does not expect the five of them to foot the bill for the transportation of the prisoners.

Male Half-Elf Paladin 3

"If there is not a boat available or if it's decided that the road is more amenable, perhaps purchasing horses would help speed up the trip."
