Sorry to see this game ending before it really even took off, but thank you for being upfront with us. It has inspired me to perhaps run a game of traveller in the near future....

He will start with the Regina Intergrated Genetic Information Service, then go to the Roup Planetary Criminal Information Centre, then to the Imperial Navy Service Corsair's Registry and finally the TAS membership directory.

Kenneth will search all the databases he can, paying the access fee for those that need it. As for the Roup Downport database...he might take a peek inside to see how hard it would be to hack the information. Also, can I make a computer check to try and speed the process up?

I suppose with his computer skill, Ken could do background checks on the passengers, otherwise he can accompany anyone as a extra. His persuasion might help some in negations. I think we should try to take as many of the offered passengers/cargo as we can!

Kenneth will attempt to increase the security on the computers and comm of the crew, specifically against this kind of intrusion (and others as well). He will also continue to try and discover who it is tapping their communications.
When the others return he will sit them down and go over what he has learned. He sweeps the room and crew for bugs and ensure no one is listening in.

"So the long and the short of it is, your friend (he looks to Lysander) is being traced, and now so are we. Who is he? Who would be interested in his communications?"

He turns to Lodic and asks, "Do you have any assets in the area who might be able to shed some light on this? I am going to check mine...I do not like being bugged!"

I came across a wonderful character generator for Traveler called TCG by a company called RPGsuite I bought it and have been having a blast playing around with it. The basic system is free, but it only supports drifters, but you can get the character package for the rest. Have asked about expanding to black book information, but no reply yet. Check it out!

Waiting for the transit to take him to the DownPort, Kenneth checks his comm to see he has received messages. He takes a moment to back trace the signal to ensure it has not been spoofed. Once satisfied, he runs his security software over the packet, and then deciders the message.

He types a quick note to the others, basically saying he will be at the port shortly, but he will go along with whatever the group decides. Not being a merchant at heart, many of these decisions he will leave to those who know better. In fact, hi position withing the ship had never really been clarified, not that he cared. He hoped that travelling would help erase some of the bad memories of the last few years.

He hopped on the tram and replaced his comm, but the dark thoughts had been stirred up, and his mood had turned black.

I have no drive skill, so it's 'shanks mare' for me...lol

My equipment selection is going to look a lot like yours mdt. Lots of fun spy-gear to play with...will miss the wafer jack, but will get a hand-held computer to compensate..and save up for one in the future!!

on another note, I received a "secret" as a benefit when mustering...will I get to know what that is, or does it come into play later during the game??


Thank you for clarifying that for me GM...I will ensure all my purchases are below the 2000cr cap. I really liked your example as well...brought home the reason behind the cap most effectively.


Can we get a ruling on this GM? Are we able to purchase an item (or items) over 5,000cr? If not, then most of what I was is going to be beyond my price range unfortunately. (My main purchase would be a TL-13 wafer jack. This way I will always have a computer/4 concealed on my person. It seems to fit his character, with his very high computer skill and covert background - fingers crossed)


Well I want to spend on some items before the start of game...perhaps that I have had for awhile...top of the list is a wafer jack and some expert programs. In my line of work, one would be almost indispensable. Also a decent, small computer for clandestine work, and a neural comm would be nice, along with a weapon, armor and some other random equipment.
So, instead of taking "secret". I can get 30,000cr more to equip my character...


I think I will be switching my "Secret" benefit roll for some more cash...there are a number of things I would like to get, but do not have the money to buy them...unless I can cash in one ships share!!!???

Once that is done, and I select my connection skills, I should be done...I hope

We can alter the background to remove all mention of psionics..and just make it some sort of medical experiment....that should keep the basics of the story intact.


As a possible 3rd connection, getting the ship I have already met Lysander, as has Varkha. Lysander could have approached us sometime during the final year of our last term and told us about the possibility of his getting a ship and him asking if we wanted in. I could then speak to Dr. McBride and Lodic, bringing them into the group (with their shares in the ship). Anyone else who is connected with Max and Allrianne could use their connection to "let them in on a good deal"...shares in the ship.
Just a thought....but I think we might be getting bogged down in the connections...so I hope that this helps....again it is only a suggestion...alter, append, delete or whatever you want...


I think for my 2 connections they will be these:

Connection One 8-12 Years Ago: (This will bring Kenneth, Varkha and Lysander together)
Story: As part of his operation, Kenneth needs to make money to fund his covert operation. He contacts a fellow scout (Varkha), who is basically just spending the next few years travelling the sector doing small jobs for the service. He has contacted a member of a tradeship (Lysander) to get his a consignment of what look like TL-8 computer, but are actually filled with TL-12 components. Kenneth has Varkha pickup the shipment from Lysander and deliver it to him. They continue this setup for almost a year, before Kenneth stops the deliveries. Kenneth keeps in contact with the two, even thought he does not see them again until he arrives on Roup.

Connection Two 1-4 Years Ago: (This will have Kenneth, Lodic and Dr. McBride)
Story: Wanting to discover more about his psionic abilities, Lodic cracks into a very high-security medical database. Unknown to him, Kenneth had been sent to also retrieve the files from this same supervisor. The scout service believes the Darrien are trying to advance psionic research, and Kenneth was sent to retrieve this information, as well as wreck their research data. The two, comically, end up in the same server room, having attempted to psionically render each other unconscious...and in the process discovering they are both psionic. Coming to a quick understanding, Kenneth helps bury the files and sets up a number of dummy files pointing to the supervisor's treason and embezzlement (selling the "hidden" files to a foreign operative). Lodic helps Kenneth escape, and they plan to meet up and have the data reviewed. The ICSS hires Dr. McBride to examine the data, which turns out to be valuable only to those with psionic ability. Both Lodic and Kenneth talk the Doctor into falsifying the documents showing only failed experiments. Kenneth and Lodic, with the help of Dr. McBride experiment with these techniques (possibly setting it up for Lodic and I to take 1 skill in a psionic talent).

Ok...these are just ideas, so change, opt out or offer other suggestions...this gives us connections with the majority of the players, I think (The only 2 I am not connected with are Max and Allrianne.)


I think that maybe Lysander is saying that because he was actually a merchant, his shares are already invested into a ship and we are "buying" into it. Which makes sense to me because of his background. Our connection to him would be the ship, as he would be actively searching for investors.

Maybe I am wrong, but that is what I thought he was meaning...sorry if I am mistaken...


Sounds like it might work...and the "smuggling" could maybe be something as small as computer data (given his fairly high computer skills). That works for me...and since he was a good courier once, Kenneth probably kept tabs on him incase he needed his assistance again.


ok...this one will probably need the GM to weigh in on, but with connection skills, it says you can take "Any" skill...does that include psi skills??


Ok..so then Kenneth would have Telepathy and Clairvoyance at 0, right? On the bottom of page 152, first column, it says the character learns the skill a level 0. Later it says if you had a 0 in telepathy you can use life detection, read surface thoughts or assault as the situation demands

Now just one more ....hmmm what skill should I choose for that connection?

Darn...really wanted Awareness. I wonder if I can forgo the other talents and maybe just get awareness at level 1?? :-)


@ Varkha: That sounds fair..and with a 3 I would most likely not score on any of the skills either...


Unfortunately my agent was gained before you were even enrolled in the special branch.
My last term had me doing something that I was not very proud of...perhaps I turned against the scout service and helped you escape Darrien space?

Now, next I have to roll for each area of skill (Awareness, telepathy, etc) to see if I have any ability, and if not, then I do not have trainable powers, correct?


Ok..think I did my psionics roll wrong. Looking at mdt's example for his character, it should be done at the time of the event (so for me, term 2). Therefore instead of -6 (all terms served) I should have subtracted -2 (actual terms served), giving him a 7, not a 3. Is that correct??

Also I will add Medic-1 and Survival-1 to my character for ship skills. Still need connections and the associated skills. My last term was not a good one and probably the reason I left the scouts....I also made a contact with an agent...who could possibly be mdt, if the times lineup....
What level are connection skills?


Ok, just a few questions and I should be done. I updated my character alias with skills and such. I had 2 events during character generation that need to be resolved. One was during Mustering out, I received a SECRET. Not sure what this might be, but I guess it is up to the GM. The second was psionic training. Will roll that now.

2d6 - 6 ⇒ (6, 3) - 6 = 3

So he has some potential. Will need to read up on this....

As for skills, if they are not already spoken for, I would like to take Medic-1 and Survival-1, if that is ok.
