"Not only was he abusing them," Katrina says as she follows James, "But they're... well, they don't seem to be breathing to me. We came up here to check on her friend's grandmother at her request after she wasn't able to speak with her. We just wanted to help Brittany figure out what was wrong, and we showed up to this, It was like this when we got here. He's been collecting social security benefits for dead people. I'm fairly certain that's a felony, isn't it officers?" She stands with her arms crossed under a frown comes over her face. "Wait a minute... where is Brittany?" She glares at Jimmy. "You did something to her, didn't you? Where is she?" Persuasion: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Katrina just sighs as she jumps through the window and rolls, coming up running toward Buck and Jimmy. "Quit stabbing a dead body and get a move on! James! Come on!" She takes off towards the two of them at a sprint, ready to help Buck deal with whatever the hell Jimmy is up to. "Keep 'im still! On my way!" Running: 1d6 ⇒ 6 This seems like a good time to note for the newbies that you neither roll your Wild die nor do you ace on Running rolls. I move 12" this rounds instead of 6.
Buck, you can spend a Benny in between attacks, so you could negate being Shaken and only take 1 wound. You could then try and spend your remaining Benny to soak your last wound, although that puts you at 0 bennies (unless the GM allows you to retroactively roll Spirit to unshake instead of spending a Benny). You could also just try to Soak both wounds, if you wanted. Spending one to negate the first Shaken is perhaps the safest bet, as you guarantee you only have one Wound. You could try to tough it out and soak both Wounds, but you only have a d6 vigor so it's unlikely that'll happen and it's not impossible you won't soak any at all, and then be out a Benny for nothing. Thing is, if you roll well you nullify both Wounds for 1 Benny. Just figured I'd give some advice, as you're in a bit of a tough spot. I would personally eat the 1 Wound to unshake, if only because your Vigor is average. If you had a d8 or higher, I might say go for the roll as you're unlikely to fail completely. You've got a flat 50% chance of soaking at least 1 wound anyway.
Rolling Strength in this scenario is a non-action, so no penalties. Although I wrote it out as multiple different strikes from a story perspective, Katrina made a singular Fighting roll against the zombie that attacked her. She then moved up to her Pace toward the window, so she takes no multi-action penalty. Her -1 is from using an Improvised weapon, which also lowers her Parry by 1. Katrina cringes away from the dead zombie, deciding not to look at the base of her now-ruined lamp. Instead, she starts shouting at James once she gets close to the window. "What're you waiting for? Come on, climb down before we're stuck in here!" She makes a face as she hefts the dripping lamp in the direction of the door, holding it out to keep the encroaching elderly at bay. "Seriously James, this is no time to get distracted. Move!"
When the zombie falls toward her, she wrestles her way off of the thing and kicks it once, shoving it away from her. "Hey!" she shouts, struggling against him before she gets away. "Get the f*ck off of me, you crusty old man." Katrina brings the lamp down on the head of the zombie that fell toward her, trying to bash in its skull before she turns and runs toward the window. "Zhi! Leave her, just get out the damn window! We need to leave!" Rolls:
Wild: 1d6 ⇒ 2 Strength: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Fighting: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
Buck, you don't actually need to spend a Benny to remove the Shaken condition. You can roll your Spirit in order to act on your turn, all you need is a success. You can also spend a Benny afterward to automatically succeed if you have to. You also don't use any modifiers to the original roll when you ace on a die and re-roll. While this means you don't add any bonuses, any original penalties are also negated.
Katrina stumbles back when the zombie tries to force its way in, then quickly leaps back at it swinging the lamp like a madwoman. She does her best to smash the base of the lamp into the nearest zombies head. She screams half in fear and half in anger as they begin to try and close the gap and enter the home. "Any chance there's a back door to this place?" She tries again to slam the lamp into the zombie's head. "Or maybe a window we can sneak out of?" Rolls: Oh, sweet Jesus.
Strength: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Fighting: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6
"Are you kidding me?" Katrina looks over as Zhi tries to grapple the grandmother and hold her down. "Zhi, I don't think she's gonna listen to us all of a sudden." When she spots the other geriatrics heading in, Katrina raises her arms in front of her as she blocks the doorway to hopefully keep them from getting inside and harassing the rest of them. She looks around and quickly grabs whatever small object she can as a makeshift weapon--maybe a hand mirror or a small lamp--and tries to take up a spot in the doorway to keep the other geriatrics from getting into the building and harassing Zhi. "Just want I wanted to do, beat up some old people..." Katrina will grab the closest object that can count as a small improvised weapon and take up a position in the doorway. I'd probably consider that an action, but if not I'll then take the Defend action for a +2 Parry. Either way, I have a -1 Parry due to an improvised weapon.
"Hmm... maybe. Soemthing's wrong with that plaque, though. She keeps staring at it, but more importantly just touching it made me feel like my hands were freezing or something. That's not normal. Let's see if Zhi can find some tools to get the thing off the wall. If not, we can try moving her. I wonder if she'll move to look at it if we pick her up..."
Buck, you add any bonuses or penalties to your Wild Die as well. "Here, scoot over. Zhi, give us a hand?" Katrina gives it a tug from the other side, trying to get at an angle the bigger guy can't. "Christ, this thing's on tight." Strength: 1d4 ⇒ 2
He'll get a +1 from me, so he's at a 9 to pry it off.
"They're checking out Jimmy's office, it's just us here." Katrina looks Buck up and down, then grins. "Hey tough guy, think you could help us pry that plaque off the wall? She keeps starin' at it, and something about it doesn't feel right. I think I'm getting a chill just standing near it." She shrugs. "You're a big strong jock, right? Put that football practice to work. We'll give you a hand."
"You shouldn't wait here alone, Zhi. I'll stay too." Katrina leans against the wall farther away from the metal plaque, and scowls at it. "Something about that thing ain't right, Zhi. You wanna see if you can help me find something we could use to pry it off the wall or something? I doubt the old lady's got a crowbar, but anything we can slide underneath it might work."
For the uninitiated, I have some of a reputation when it comes to Savage Worlds games; my first roll of the game is always amazing. Usually it's just a Raise or two, but every once and a while it gets silly; I've rolled a 45 to hit or a 30-something to damage for my first rolls of the game when they've started with combat. It's nice to know it's gonna keep going.
Katrina gets out of her car and takes a look around, walking up beside James as they wait for Brittany to get out and meet them. Katrina looks around and folds her arms across her chest. "What's up with all these speakers?" She looks over at Brittany. "What, do they have concerts for the old folk's home?" She chuckles at her own joke before she fans herself once or twice with the bottom of her shirt. "It seems pretty quite. Do these units not have air conditioning or something? I'd think that'd be a little dangerous, what with all the old people living here..." Notice: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Hah! My unnatural luck continues.
"Of course she did." Katrina just smirks at James, finishing off her first breadstick just as he starts to shovel down two more. "I'll do just about anything for free food, and last time James ran off to check out something 'strange' he nearly got mugged. Someone has to watch out for him. What's up?"
"Hey Zhi, good to see you." Katrina takes a bite of the pizza and chews it slowly, before nodding. "It's not New York pizza, but it's pretty good. She recoils with fake horror when someone orders Hawaiian. [b]"Ugh, God. I thought you guys were our classmates. To think, I go to school with people who put pineapple on pizza..." She goes to grab the last slice of pizza but realized Zhihao hasn't had any; she just flags a waiter down instead. "Hey, another pepperoni please." She watches James scarf down a couple of breadsticks and elbows him in the ribs. "And some more breadsticks, I guess." She nabs two of the last remaining breadsticks and hands one to Zhihao before munching on the other. "I'm just glad orientation's over and done with. I can't stand those stupid team building exercises. If I hear the joke about how much a polar bear weighs one more time, I swear to God..." |
