Instead of taking a seat, Karen chose to stand in the back and out of the way in a spot where she could still see, but was unobtrusive. She knew that there were some who decried her species, and she had no desire to quarrel with them.

As the meeting began, Karen, listened to the woman's petition with great interest, fighting to keep a smile off her face, and completely unable to keep a look of excitement from her eyes.

Like most people in the crowd, Karen's head snapped towards the door when the young man burst in; unlike most people, however, Karen didn't hesitate.

She strode directly out the door the young man had come in through.

As the bell begins to toll, Karen says "Let's Go!" and then picks up her pack, turns, and walks out the door without waiting, her step light.

"Nice to meet you Cris....well, all of you, really. My name is Karen." says Karen with a smile and a wave.

Karen glances at the small man, smiles, and says "I sure am!" she is about to say something more, but turns at Harley's mention of "tavern work".

"What's wrong with tavern work? It's an honest living"

"Now, now; it's considered rude to critique the food before you try it." offered the Half-Orc woman who was standing at the bar, conversing quietly with the bartender.

Even from behind it was clear that she was muscular, with the broad shoulders indicitive of her race encased in a suit of well (if not expertly) made breastplate armor. She bore no weapons, but as she turned to size up the original speaker, the small symbol of an open palm set in a circle and made of silver that hung from the Half-Orc's neck smacked quietly into the exact same symbol etched into the front of the breastplate.

"Besides, lentils are used commonly in stews in most taverns and inns, so I doubt the effects are widespread among the populous. Although" she admitted with a nod to herself "it could just be something that only effects gnomes. That would make for an interesting field of study."

@Kari: as far as skill suggestions go, I would recommend the following, since we currently (based on the stats of the people I can see) don't have anyone who has them:

Arcana, Medicine.

Additionally, Acrobatics, Athletics, and Stealth are good "self" skills (i.e. they provide a good benefit to you).

Other than that, we should have most of the basics covered.

Okay, after doing some reading and thinking about things for a bit, I'm going to keep Karen a follower of Irori but she's going to change to warpriest, since I'd like to focus a bit more on strength.


@Diaz: I think as long as we can all behave like adults we should be fine.

As far as Karen goes, I'm not going to be taking any of class archetypes, as there are enough good cleric feats to see me through.

I'm also most likely going to be changing deities to Cayden Cailean, cause he fits her backstory more (Karen is a character that I usually include as an NPC in most of my games, but I have played her occasionally, and she usually follows irori cause she was initally a cleric/monk).

As far as how she knows the rest of the group, Karen is effectively a "fresh off the farm" character, so unless one of you were regulars at her parents' tavern, then I don't think I should start knowing any of the group.

right now, it looks like our group is a Baro's champion, Eyza's bard, my cleric, Diaz's fighter, and a 5th person I couldn't find in the recruitment thread (Eline; apologies if you were there and I missed you).

I am going to be more ranged focused, since I don't really have the armor to run around in melee.

EDIT: I made a feat change to my character, cause I realized you can't take Orc Sight after first level, and darkvision is better than 1 point of damage on average.

Apologies about not posting sooner, but I have been down internet wise for roughly a week, and will not have internet back up yet for a week or so.

This means that I haven't had internet for the last 4 days (as we had 4 days off at my work for the holiday).

It's been...an experience where I learned that I use the internet more than I thought I did.

"The impression I received is that they likely do not know this about themselves at all. Perhaps if we appointed them 'community leaders' or the like, then it would let us keep an eye on them while also letting them grow in a more natural way."

"We also need to have a talk about feeding the refugees. I am currently providing them with food and water, but if we have to leave, I don't want them to starve. We should find out if any of them have farming experience, and if so, is there land suitable for farming nearby. We are responsible for these people, and that responsibility includes making them self-sustainable."

Interesting.

Sensing this power, Karen will attempt to record what she can about the people who seem to possess it: gender, race, relative age, state of health, and so on. She does not, however, openly mention it, as until she can be certain that it is not a danger, she doesn't want to scare anyone or get them ostracized for something they likely have no control over.

She will, however, share the information with the rest of the group.

Once the refugees had shelter, Karen would spend some time reinforcing the walls and gates. She added a covered area over the walkway, so that attacking enemies would not be able to see the defenders on the wall. She also added a great number of long, vertical rectangles in the wall, to allow the patrols on the wall to look out at the approaches.

Finally, she installed a 200' deep moat with stone spikes at the bottom, and created a bridge.

Karen uses her time creating stone shelters for the refugees, basically square boxes with a doorway and a fireplace with chimney. She will remove extraneous buildings if needed for space.

Karen let's Godwyn act as the group's voice for this interaction, mainly because she's worried about the refugees, and a bit fidgety to go and check on them.

"I am positive that it is being caused by someone very strong, since they put the disease in Mithral jars and used them as splash weapons."

Karen thinks for a moment, then adds "If we are going to hold this place long-term, we're going to need to recruit some more troops. Anyone besides Loc have an idea where we might do so?" Turning to Loc, Karen adds "Sorry, but I think it'll send the wrong message if we have undead manning the walls."
