Lapyd has withdrawn by PM, leaving the current list as: shajnal - Drâth Isidar, dwarven lorekeeper druid (reincarnated menhir savant), doomsday prophet of Ustalav Veniir - Carla Hiibus, human hedge witch zeppelinmage - Raven Treadway, skinwalker warpriest of Pharasma Looking good so far with the first two! Looking forward to a meatier description of your concept for the group to look at, zeppelinmage ;)
@Lapyd: The Moonlight Mendicant is the favorite of the group among your concepts, but the powerscaling of the mechanics has me a bit concerned. Is this concept something that might also be achieved with, say, the Legendary Shifter by Legendary Games? @shajnal: Thanks! A bit of flavor text for the background wouldn't hurt though! ;) @Carla: Interesting! I don't think I've ever gamed with someone using that archetype before. I'm deliberately trying to stay away from build rules, though, to avoid people putting a lot of effort into a build and then being disappointed about wasted effort if they aren't chosen. Just a general concept and some background flavor is good for now! Multiple concepts are fine, too!
I'm GMing a PBEM (NOT a pbp on the forums) of Carrion Crown, and Real Life has struck one of my players hard enough that they had to drop out - right before the BBEG fight of the first module. So, I'm looking for between 1-3 new characters to join the party, to beef us up against similar player attrition. I'm not looking for any builds at the moment - just interesting character concepts. What I'm really looking for, though, are people who enjoy the roleplaying/writing aspect of time-async gaming. The current characters are: an Unchained rogue, a brawler, and an occultist (and potentially a bone oracle, if her player's life calms down), and the party is level 3. Most Paizo sources are approved (summoners must be Unchained, and please make Ustalav area-appropriate character concepts, however you flavor whatever class you choose), and 3pp is possible (POSSIBLE) if a) it's a source I already have or is available on d20pfsrd, and b) it's approved by the group. The party, who traveled to the town of Ravengro for the funeral of their beloved Professor Lorrimor, has been working hard to secure the town from increasing paranormal activity. As mentioned, they've been making enough headway (between sidequests) to be on the cusp of confronting the BBEG of the first module. Our game is run from groups.io, and we have a Discord server/subgroup channel where we chat and roll dice. We have a support site with all the actual build rules (and an archive of the story so far in story form); I'll link you if the group likes your concept. :) Our posting rate is VERY reasonable, since we all have lives and jobs to worry about - in general, we expect at least one post a week, though, and to keep an eye on Discord. Edit: I'll probably let this recruitment run for at least one week; if you see it and are interested after that, feel free to DM me. Any questions, just ask. I hope you'll come game with us!
I'm somewhat new to 2e, as I'm only running 2 games in it (and haven't run any prior), but I'm in the early stages of plotting another game in that system instead of PF1 (which is what the majority of my games are); I have a lot of other players interested, so there would be no need to double up on characters. The catch is that it's pbem, rather than Foundry or Roll20, but it is similar in the sense of that I upload a map that gets revealed as you go, and tokens (though I ask for your planned movements and move your tokens for you; this is because I'm using PS for map movements/reveals. I re-upload the map each new round). No worries if you're only interested in Foundry/Roll 20, just thought I'd check if that was a hard line to cross or not. PM me if you're interested! If you are, I'd like to know more about you both! I'll introduce myself as well, of course. (I'm also in Europe, but in pbem it doesn't really matter, haha.)
Well, there are two finished submissions and two slots open, so you're in, Arcane Clockwork and Daniel Stewart! I'll PM you our Discord invitation, a link to our email group, and a link to our support site, which has the actual character generation rules and house rules, as well as a cast page where you can see the other characters. K3D, your proposal was interesting and you did show continued interest in joining, so if you'd like to join our Discord server and wait in case someone drops out or we start a new game, you're welcome to do that (we also sometimes need new people in our PF1 games, which are the bulk of what I run, and a handful of other games run by other GMs). Let me know, and I can drop you the invitation as well. Thanks, folks!

Hello! I’m planning to run Kingmaker 2e in a pbem (play by email) format, and I’m going to need one new player, but with a possible need for one or two more, depending on my existing players’ availability. I’m looking for friendly, well-adjusted, and creative writers-who-are-gamers who haven’t played Kingmaker in any shape or form before (though I’ll make an exception if your character really wows me). Here are the major points to consider:
- The game is NOT on the forums, it is pbem (play by email) based out of groups.io (where we also handle things like combat maps – we don’t use Roll20). You will need to sign up with your chosen gaming email; it is free. They will not spam you or sell your address. (Link sent on selection) - We roll dice on a Discord server. You will need a Discord account; it is free. (Link sent on selection) - Like any online game, you need to be prepared to play this game for years. Because of this, it’s also important that you fit into our gaming group well. We’ll judge this based on your written description and background, so make it count! - Posting rate is relaxed – we all have jobs and are busy people. But if you can’t post at least once or twice a week, please don’t apply. - We use a Word doc for a character sheet. It’s standardized and detailed copypasta, but a huge help to me (the GM); I make notes and look up rules for easy access on it. Please do not apply if you’re just going to throw a Pathbuilder or Herolab pdf at me. (If you want one of those for your own use, go nuts, but please send me the filled-out Word doc if you’re selected.)
Here’s what I’m looking for:
- You haven’t played Kingmaker 1e, 2e or the Owlcat game before. (Preference) - You enjoy writing descriptive stories (avoiding the dreaded one-line reply), and are not opposed to using punctuation. (Mandatory) - You won't ghost us.
Here’s the most basic breakdown for creating your character application:
- Don’t make a whole sheet – all we need is a concept (including intended class/ancestry), a description, and a background – not just a mechanical background (though that’s also cool), but an actual descriptive background of your character’s life. Basically, mostly fluff, very little crunch. - PF2 Level 1 - World: Golarion. Nation: Brevoy (to begin with) - Some 3pp may be possible, judged on a case-by-case basis. - No evil characters (yes, I’m using alignments), heroes only - You must have a reason to be in Brevoy at the start of the game, and you must have a reason to join and stay with the party. We’re talking internal motivation, here. I recommend looking at the Kingmaker’s Player’s Guide – the more connected to the story, the better. (There’s of course leeway to make connections with the existing characters if your character is selected.) The full character generation rules are on the support site I built for the game, which I’ll send you the link to if you’re selected.
The current party makeup consists of:
- Human barbarian (Brevic Outcast)
Possibly also (depending on availability):
About me:
I’ve been gaming since the late 80s (Chiefly DnD 2e/3.5e/Pathfinder 1e, some CoC, V:tM, GURPS), and running pbems since 2003. I’m a longtime PF1 GM, but PF2 is new to me (and most of my current players), so be kind! I live in Europe, so my time zone probably won’t sync with yours – if I don’t reply to a PM quickly, that’s why. Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope to make a selection within a week, or two at the most.
Hi mfloyd3! I, for one, love the idea. Looking forward to playing along with you on the same side of the screen! :D Picturing the eidolon like this, only clockwork XD Just kidding. But I had to get it in there.
Here's my unchained rogue Rajiv Rao, ready to perform heroic deeds! I do have a question for you, GM: Because Weapon Finesse has been removed with the Elephant in the Room rules, and in the spirit of those rules, would it be possible to rule that the unchained rogue's class ability Finesse Training can apply to all finesse weapons? And/or that another feat might be substituted for the one negated by the house rule (such as Dodge?)
Huzzah! Well met, saer! I'd like to throw my hat in the ring for some martial or roguish type. Let me roll straight away! 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 3) = 15 12
I believe I'll opt to reroll the 9 and the *gulp* 6...
Oh, I see I misunderstood the rerolls. I'll try again, from the same sets: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Uh. A score of 6 seems a bit hardcore... I guess I'll go with the 18 point buy.
I'm really glad to hear about the alignment restriction. I've been in too many parties where half of us wanted to be heroes, and half wanted to roleplay getting away with varying levels of atrocities. I think it's important to have the same expectations for the kind of game you're playing. If you don't know who you're playing with, knowing who considers what to be out of bounds is difficult. Alignment is a good gauge of how a person intends to play their character, in my opinion, though obviously it isn't always 100% effective and can be loopholed to some extent by unpleasant players. Basically, if I get chosen for the game, I'll be happy to play with heroes! Eeeee, checking compulsively for the recruitment thread! :D
Instead of stopping the Wormwood Prophecies, stop the Greenwood Prophecies? XD I'd play the 9 Hells out of that! I'd... like a chance to avoid the diceroller making it impossible to play without having 3 scores under 9, though (unless the rest of the party rolls the same). The diceroller is Not My Friend. And sucking at doing things when the rest of the party is good at them (especially in a High Fantasy setting) isn't really fun, either.
Welcome back to the land of games! I'm interested! The Forgotten Realms inspire incredible nostalgia in me, to the point where I've set several Pathfinder games there (though I usually set my games pre-ToT). All of which is to say, I'd be interested to play, though I've had my fill of diseases and zombies for a while, haha. All the others sound great, though! I like starting at level one to break in a character, but starting at a higher level could be a nice change of pace!

Hello! I'm planning to run a pbem in Eberron, using the PF1e rules, some of these conversions, and some house rules. I have a character generation rules page I can link you to in a PM if you're interested, as well as a Discord chat about it, if you're chosen. The game will be run out of groups.io, and an account there is free. You can add your character picture to your handle there. I'll also post your chosen character picture on the cast page of our support site, along with a few details of who they are for the other players. I'm looking for 2-3 more players. The other players currently include: - a sylph wandslinger (a houseruled swashbuckler archetype)
We'll be starting in Sharn. So far, everyone in the party has been a member of the Keen Company, under Garson Keen, who died on the Day of Mourning, getting his company out of Cyre. They escaped with the fog right on their heels. Now, two years after the war has ended, they've received a letter... from Garson Keen. He has invited them to Sharn to help solve the mystery of what really happened on the Day of Mourning? I'm looking for people who enjoy writing more than one-line replies. If you have a cool concept, a great backstory, a love of writing, and team spirit, this game is for you! I'm not posting the character generation rules here, because at this point I'd mainly like to get a feel for your writing style and concepts. If you absolutely need a framework to start with, start with a 15-point ability buy (this has the potential to be altered later, according to my house rules), no evil alignments, and know that 3pp isn't out of the question if it's in my library or on d20pfsrd. I'll let this recruitment run on several forums until I get the desired number of players - it's definitely NOT "first come, first served," but the sooner you reply, the better. I'll try to answer any questions you may have quickly, but I do work days and can usually only reply on my lunch break or in the evenings. I'm at GMT+1, and expect you to post at least once during the week (and you're very welcome to post more often!); I make wrapup posts as quickly as possible, but usually once a week on weekends, to allow those of us who are busy a chance to respond. I hope you'll join us!
Thanks for the help, caps. I'm still finding the format a bit unwieldy, though, especially on my phone. At this point, I have 3-4 players interested in the pbem format, which I'm comfortable with (and two of those players actively hate pbp on Paizo's boards), so I don't think I'll do pbp this time. karlprosek, you're in, of course. Kayne Rhal, I've sent you a PM if you're still interested. I'll leave this thread open in case anyone else is open to the idea of pbem - I'm always looking for players interested in writing- and RP-heavy games.
I'm a bit wary about doing a pbp, as I find the formatting to be a huge PITA (and due to my work I can only post evenings and weekends anyway), but... I'll think about it. Dreamscarred psionics are fine. I'll consider 3pp that is publicly available (such as on d20pfsrd), or already in my library (ask if you're interested in something, naming the source). I won't allow classes that clash with any of my previously stated rules (like the antipaladin - no evil alignments), and summoners would have to be unchained, but other than that I'm open to most concepts, if you can flavor them as something Eberron-ish.
I'm thinking of running an Eberron campaign, beginning with The Forgotten Forge. I would use PF 1e rules, and the conversions found here. What I'm thinking of doing:
I'm not looking for applications yet, but I know I find it easier to come up with concepts if I know what rules are in use, so here you go: I would tentatively allow 3pp, subject to review. Monster building as well, assuming an appropriate background for it, also subject to review, and restricted to a maximum of 14 RP. Point buy would be 15 to begin with, increased to 20 if you describe two positive qualities and two negative qualities of your character's personality, and incorporate your Feats/Traits - why do you have them? Increased to 25 if you tell me something your character is very good at, but also a flaw that makes doing that very difficult. I wouldn't use all the races available at the linked conversion site, just the standard Eberron core: all the core races + goblins (including hobgoblins and bugbears, I have already built those races for use), changelings, Kalashtar, shifters, and warforged. We would use Hero Points and background skills (but without Artistry and Lore), and two traits, no drawbacks. I would accept any non-evil alignment (though as a warning, I use some definitions of the alignments that draw a clear line between "chaotic" and "evil"). I expect to play with heroes, not thugs. We would probably start with average gold to buy equipment with, assuming most of the players chose a 20 or 25 point buy.
The game would begin in Sharn, and I would expect the party to already have links to each other in their backgrounds, and a reason to be together as the game began. I'm thinking of running it as a pbem rather than a pbp, just because I like the format better, and also I've never run a game on the boards before (though I've run plenty of pbems). I would put up a campaign site with things like house rules, setting details, a cast page with pictures of the party members, and a collected archive of posts so that you could read them like a book, instead of trawling through hundreds of posts to follow the game. Would anyone be interested in such a game? If so, what would your character concept (not crunch) be?
