I would think that Sorcerer might be better for rays, since there aren't that many and you can cast them whenever you need.

The Sensei archetype lets him use Wis instead of Str to hit after 2nd level, so he will actually be very accurate.
Without any good reason to do so, killing an entire tribe of anything would be evil, but if you put in a reason for them to do so, everything can work out fine.
Obviously the entire scenario is pushing the limits of a paladin's code, but I don't see the shovel incident as being anything that would cause him to fall. Personally I would have asked the wizard not to loot the body or attempted to resolve the situation peacefully before resorting to a shovel, but unless you're playing with a code that is much stricter than normal, that wouldn't result in him falling.

Kaerlic strolls through the marketplace, attempting to act casual and unafraid. Behind his inscrutable face is discomfort, this is first time returning to the city since his father's death. His pouch is heavy with gold, earned from his time as a guide, and he wanders the stalls searching for supplies. As he looks through the wares available from an old friend, enjoying the anonymity that comes with his extended absence, he hasn't been recognized in three days. He moves away from the stall, unsure of where to go next and continues on his way through the market.
I'm not really sure where to post my backstory, so I'll put it here. My stats are all good to go. Kaerlic was once the son of a rich merchant, set to inherit his vast fortune upon his death. His father made his living by running caravans through the Qadiran desert, and despite his immense wealth he still enjoyed personally supervising the journey. When Kaerlic grew older, he began to accompany his father on these travels, but one day, tragedy struck. The caravan was attacked by bandits, who turned out to be in league with some of the animal handlers employed by Kaerlic's father. Kaerlic used the dueling skills that he learned from his father to survive and he has spent the last few years living in the desert, assisting lost travelers. |
