'Bobbi,' who is geared up and sitting on her bike, suggests, "Why don't we talk about this somewhere more comfortable? At the very least not standing around outside the Yakuza's club house. "Al, do you have a place you want to jack in to do research or will any bar do?" To 'Murphy,' 'Bobbi' says,
"Let's go shopping and meet up later. Anyone want to suggest a place since I'm new to town?"
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Great write up. It sounds like we might want to approach this as a land without machined tech even if they have abundant agriculture.
GM, do we know about the economy in the Jungle? Would trading machined items for info or safe passage be a viable option?
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
While contemplating their next move 'Bobbi' responds to Hawa,
'Bobbi' starts up her bike and pulls on her helmet, "Otherwise, I would prefer not to deal with the gangers."
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
'Bobbi' will make sure someone on the team takes the envelop from the table before we leave. She thanks our host and outside she asks the group,
To Hawa she says,
How do you guys want to start the leg work section?
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
'Bobbi' nods in agreement and gives Murph a smile of appreciation. "Lets finish our meal and start the business of retrieval" 'Bobbi' will put away the white noise box once everyone is done talking. She will mull over the Concrete Jungle and Biotech, neither of which she knows anything about it. Not sure if Kerrah rolled on this yet, but here is her knowledge check Kn Seattle Locs: 6d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 2, 5, 6, 3) = 21 (2 hits)
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Etiquette: 13d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 2, 1, 6, 2, 4, 6, 1, 6, 6, 5) = 46 (5 hits) 'Bobbi' may feel uncomfortable in her new threads but she has a knack for fitting right in all the same.
WNG: Rating 6 White Noise Generator. Since Kerrah isn't good with tech, she will leave the matrix stealth to the experts but will cover her own liabilities.

Kerrah, now as 'Bobbi,' is dressed in moderately fashionable clothes with a new neon blue wig to match her accoutrements and blue nails, all of which highlights her elaborate face tattoo. She feels a bit out of place in this upscale restaurant and fidgets with news fitted outfit. She is more comfortable in a causal bar but has learned to adopt her manner to fit the setting. Once she sees her old team mate 'Murphy' she beams a smile at him. "Hey Mate." She will greet the rest of the party when they arrive. At the tiny table, 'Bobbi' will ponder the menu in ARO for a long time, as if the tech is a bit confusing to her and she needs to keep restarting the options list. Finally, she will order "The Special" and a saki.
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Kerrah will contact Al and wait for him before leaving for the Phoenix House. "I'm heading out, Al. See you at the meet."
She will arrive at the Redmond Phoenix House and find a secure auto-park. While her bike is lifted away she will straighten up her outfit and checks her look in her comm. Kerrah is wearing the latest fashion under her armored jacket and has a concealed Walther Palm and concealed folding knife. Was Kerrah able to find a wireless wig with nano filliments that can match fashion and style and change shape and color?

Thanks for letting me know.

Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Kerrah picks up her cracked and well decorated comm and sees Al has called with a potential job.
What do I remember about the meet location, she reminisces.
Kerrah gets out her latest new outfit, considering what she should wear and readies her self for the meet.
GM, let me know what you decide about how to handle the tattoo focus. Also, I found an alternative:
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Hi GM, I was thinking of getting a Foci tattoo. The book isn't too clear about it so I want to ask you how you would handle it. Kerrah wanted either a Foci of Astral Perception
Kerrah has a Talismonger contact. Let me know how to handle this. Thanks!

Epilogue
While waiting on her fixer, she keeps busy buying various pleasantries for her squalor of a home. She bides her time window shopping, clubbing, and dining out, getting familiar with the ins and outs of her local neighborhood.

Glad to see you have a long extensive background written up. I look forward to hearing about it in-game.
The short of it is, Bobbi didn't kill anyone. The long version is that the stats were on her side. But being a long term player, I did expect that you would see the need for APDS in terms of purely game mechanics and not RPing. This is a game of stats and using APDS is just good stats. (Note that Bobbi had her Ares Light pistol out first (6P -4AP). Only later she used her Warhawk and only to split damage. Also, she does own a stun gun, but due to game mechanics its not as effective with only 4 shots and 20m range and statistically speaking she wouldn't have done as much with the stunner.
A 6P pistol with -4AP gives the defender an average 9 to 11 dice or 2 to 3 hits (12 armor plus body 3 - 4 APDS, totaling 11 dice. In play, the Mook had 9 dice pool net). With 9DP, the Mook had less than 1.0% chance of glitching. For def, the Mook, on average, would soak 2 to 4 hits and in fact soaked 2. This leaves the the damage at 6P + a likely of 1 to 2 hits, maybe maxing out at 6 hits, given my accuracy. Even if I did max damage of 14P, the average Mook will get 1 or 2 hits of soak to reduce this to 12P and, on average, a Mook has 10 Physical plus 3 overflow, sometimes 4 overflow. As you said "If he'd failed to get any hits," I saw the risk at a 99% that the Mook would take less than 10P and even had he glitched, on average, it still would have been lower than the Mook's overflow. So, Yes, I did think it through and knew with 99% chance Mooks don't die on the first shot. As I said, I don't play fantasy games to pretend to kill. The reason why you didn't hear anything from Bobbi IC or me as a player, I don't 'b@&++' people out for not playing like I do and I don't RP that way either. My actions were consistent with a 'No kill' policy as Bobbi held her action in the end instead of summarily executing them. But I'm not going to convince you I know what I'm doing and you are not going to convince me that pretending to kill is 'all in the game.' So If you can play with someone not willing to kill outright, then let's play. _________________________ @GM,
Is magic and magical beings going to be large part of the campaign or taking on a smaller role? I don't want to step on Murphy's toes but wanted to add some utility to the PC. Only if there was going to be a significant magical component to the campaign. Otherwise, Bobbi can focus on B&E skills to round her out. Also, it seems we are not using the negotiation skill for loot sales? If this is the case, can I un-train my negotiation skill?
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Speaking of stealing stuff, the final loot total with a 3-way split is
Since Hawa and Al were offered a bonus and Kerrah's was not, I have no problem not receiving a bonus. It wasn't part of my deal.
Also, until we decide how to handle the negotiation, here are my purchases: Key/Combination Lock (6) ....60
Antidote Patch (rating 6) ....300
Flash-Bang Grenade 6R ......100
Walther Palm Pistol & concealable holster 4R ..180+150
total price: -2248 2 months Modified lowlife style = -2800 and -4000 for helping locals = +2 Karma 3k for mission + 22,343 for loot sales (how ever that is handled). Here is the excel sheet updated:
Feel free to fact check it.
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
So I feel Hawa's post is, in part, directed to me, so let me attempt to address it.
Moving forward, I would like to know the ground rules for this home campaign.
So if it has not been discussed maybe now is a good time.
If we are playing something a little more nuanced than Kill first, then Steal its stuff, as Hawa put it, let's talk about our expectations. In short, we should discuss how this campaign is going to go forward.
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Actually, the book says a max of 6 rating for Connection(pg 386) at CharGen. There is no mention of 7 karma max or 7 total max. I'll max out one contact to 4/3, but my intent was to move one contact to 6/4 or 6/5 (10 or 11 max rating).
@Cavan,
Also,
The final amount will be set when we resolve the details about negotiating and fencing.
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
That's good advice. What game mechanics are we using for increasing a contact's connection rating? Since nothing is written in SR5 about improving a contact (except pg55 vague notion of earning 'a relationship') how are we going to approach this. There are a few good ideas on RunnerHub and the forums. Also, can I redo my contacts to have fewer but higher rated contacts? For some reason, Herolab put an artificial limit of 7 Karma during character creation. I found that a contact's Connection Rating can't be higher than 6 (pg. 386 in SR5) during CharGen but nothing about why only 7 karma total at CharGen. I can lower my Charisma score to reflect the change in contacts if needed for balance.
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Ok, Al I'll add it. While we are waiting for the reply to the negotiation question, I want to add this gear to Kerrah: Key/Combination Lock (6)
Antidote Patch (6)
Flash-Bang Grenade 6R
Walther Palm Pistol & concelable holster 4R
I assume the non-restricted items are not an issue, but how do you want to handle the Restricted items and Forbidden items?
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Back in town.
Are you sure you don't want the 16k from the sale of the gear? It's fairly divided by 4. We all voted and no one has said they have a problem with the 4-way split. Let us know. @Everyone,
@GM
Are we role-playing Cavan's negotiation or just getting the flat 25% of gear cost for those items that can be sold?
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Ok, let me as you this then:
I figured she would join a gym to get the basic instruction? If this is not acceptable, she could have her Mentor spirit train her as it is the spirit of Dragonslaying.
He would come in dreams and when she is alone and drive her to learn new skills. Or I am happy to have you pick something more appropriate.
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Hmmm, I guess I dont see the difference between data on a device and data in vehicle chip but I'm afraid to open a can of matrix worms. ;P So ¥500 for Spoof Chip and ¥850 flat fee. If we are skipping to contacts, here is my roll:
@Cavan,
@GM,
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Thanks for info, GM. So ¥500 for vehicle Spoof Chip. How much for wireless devices to change ownership? Am I paying for Extended Hardware + Logic [Mental] (24, 1 hour) test or Am I paying for an Edit File matrix test for some sort? Pg237
How much for either method?
Lastly, before I really am going off for the weekend (and out of internet contact),
Are we role-playing it out or hand waving it?
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Thanks GM As for transfer ownership,
That is for the vehicle. For the gear, can you list the game mechanics for transferring ownership of each gear that needs it so I can update the prices? Also, are SIN registration for a character and ownership registration separate from each other? Or does fake SIN licenses include the transfer of an item's ownership? Finally,
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
'Bobbi' looks down at her comm and reads the text from Hawa. She doesn't respond but continues to listen to the dialogue 'Murphy' has started with Niki. I will be out of town and without internet for 2 days (Yes, there are still those places left in this world).
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
'Bobbi' will be sitting and sipping her beer, acknowledging the conversation between Niko and 'Murphy'. She takes one of the credsticks looking over the amount it registers. "Thank for the payment and the kind offer. I can't speak for everyone, of course, but I'm an independent contractor. If you wish to hire my services, I am always open to a business deal. As for joining, I will have to politely decline." 'Bobbi' goes back to listening to 'Murphy's' negotiation talk and interested in what others on the team may say to the offer.
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
So before we dump everything off with the Cutters,
After everyone has claimed the items they want, We will then take the remaining gear to someone's contact and try to negotiate a higher fencing price. Kerrah is holding 1 of each:
-Shooting glasses (R2, with image link & low-light vision)
-low-light flashlight & 10 loose shotgun shells -Suzuki Mirage motorcycles (with standard motorcycle helmets)
Below is the complete list and I will add who wants what to the excel sheet. 6 of each of the following:
On Simon, you find: Defiance T250 shotgun with low-light flashlight & 10 loose shotgun shells
Vehicles:
The Truck is part of the Cutters shipment with the crates so not listed here.
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Kerrah takes off her helmet and stashes a longarms and her newly acquired machine gun with the Suzuki she rode into the Cutter's territory.
As 'Bobbi' walks over to the seats offer to her and her partners, she takes on the social affects of the gang's atmosphere and accepts a draft from the Greeter. After she sits and is given her drink, "Thank you for the hospitality. I'm 'Bobbi' and you are?" Heeding Hawa's advice, she never takes more than a polite sip or two. 'Bobbi' is attempting to use her etiquette skill to improve her social stance with the Cutters.
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
'Bobbi' puts on her helmet and gets on the Suzuki like it was made specifically for her.
She pulls in and parks outside a good 10 - 15 meters from the Firehouse. Still thinking of the long ride up north but now mindful of the scene around her, she wants to know she can get on the bike and ride off if anything goes down. She flips up her visor and nods a greeting to the Greeter. She stays on alert as the rest of her team pulls up. 'Bobbi,' expecting a pat down or to turn over her guns when at a 'meeting' looks about assessing the guards intentions and her surroundings. When none says anything to her, she follows the Greeter into the Station.
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
'Bobbi' will reload both pistols she fired earlier before the Red Spiders are released. She sets her self up in a guard position to walk with a gun drawn while the Spiders do their work. Happy that the team is back on, she smiles at Hawa, "Hug it out?" "No. Well, drinks on me if and when we get through this night. Bobbi will drive a bike. She brought her own helmet
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Bobbi leans back on one of Suzuki Mirages she choose for a seat not expecting such a response to her offer to help. Taken aback she surveys the pile of odds and ends collected from the Spiders and the gear Simon recently possessed while she contemplates how to respond. With an almost imperceptible sigh, she explains "Ignoring the fact that I got bills to pay and, oh, a powerful need to eat some time soon, I need my share to not go to the local thugs that scavenge through this area. There's nothing 'professional' about leaving behind guns and such for kids and wanna-be gangsters to find. And I am certainly not going to re-arm them after my employer ask me to remove them, so these boys are not keeping their stuff. Also, not 'professional.'" "We were contracted to shut down a group moving in on Cutter's turf and find out who was responsible. Done and done. How I do that is not up for micro-managing".
Easing up a bit she says in a more conciliatory tone "Look, you say we have the same employer, then let's work together and drop them off together. What is your drop location? Maybe it's near ours." Is Bobbi familiar with the area at the coordinates or familiar with the firehouse called "The Station?" If not she will make a Seattle location knowledge roll on what she knows about it. Seattle Loc: 6d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2) = 14 (1 hit)
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Not sure I agree with your assessment of my posts.
Quote: "You're making plans (and actually already trying to stuff the gangers away) on taking the gangers to your contact, even though you asked me if that was okay, and I said 'hold on a second, let me check' - and I've only just got that info back from my Johnson. So ... you just seem to be pushing ahead, that's all." I think the operative word here is 'seems'. No plans have been made; no one stuffed bodies into anything. Bobbi asked if you wanted to join up to go to the meets together.
-------------------------------------------------- Back on subject, what to do with the loot.
Quote: "At least for now, though, and as a consequence of Hawatari's not being of the 'let's take all their gear and sell it' persuasion, she would specifically refuse to compromise her professionalism from trying to fence that entire list of 'stuff' through either of her sell-stuff-to-them contacts; her attitude is 'you just don't do that kind of thing, otherwise you get a bad rep.' My vote, of course, is to take loot and split it up. We can negotiate buyers and price later. Murphy is already helping himself to loot ;P
We just need Al to chime in or its 2 to 1.
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
No offense taken. Thank you for your honesty.
If you are referring to this Discussion's posts, then again I have asked for everyone's feedback before moving on and have agreed with you on 90% of the topics posted. I don't feel I am tying people up with discussion about loot policy. Typically, this is done before a campaign starts. Since we aren't sitting around a table or playing at a friend's house, we need to have this discussion so that everyone can enjoy the game. Thank you for telling me I am moving too fast. So let's go back and re-discuss anything you want on the loot policy. Once we are in agreement, we can play it out in character. As for the game play,
I feel we all have responded to each other appropriately and timely.
As for the statement that Hawa would never take any 'found loot,' I dont think I have suggested your character would do that. Cavan mentioned in post he took beer/drugs but noone is preventing that nor from preventing others from doing what they say their characters are doing. Maybe you can explain this differently so we know what to avoid posting that made you think Hawa was taking something? Unfortunately, loot policy is something that needs to be transparent and discussed upfront. How it plays out can be handled in character. I understand it can be a source of contention for players but we all seem reasonable and I feel we can talk about it without getting upset. What topic would you like to revisit or discuss further?
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Thanks for the price check GM. I updated the loot sheet.
Buying connection with nueyen instead of Karma is a wise use of party funds if and that's a big if the GM allows it and it is an equable trade. Typically a player can't buy more than 7 'points' of loyalty and connection at start up, so the average fixer is 3/4 or 4/3. With that price point in mind, a new contact with the Cutters at 2 loyalty and 5 connection should cost the party 14k nueyen (1 karma = 2000 nueyen from the SR5). If this is a possibility and the party agrees to the expense, then we can 'roleplay' that the Red Spiders keep about 14k of their equipment (14k out of the 58k total party loot or 3,500 split from each player.) If the GM doesn't allow this or it costs significantly more to 'buy' a contact, we should revise this. It would be a bit silly to have a group of Red Spiders working for us and they have 50k more in stuff
Does anyone opposed this loot distribution if the GM allows us to 'buy' a contact with the Cutters?
Next topic:
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Bobbi will suggest, the gangers get stuffed in the Ford car with their gear, the crates into the Ford Truck with Simon, we have Al slave the rigged truck to his vehicle and follow each other to the first drop off, unload, the help the others with the next drop off/meet, then we head off to a fence and divide up the rest. Al and Murphy, can you search and check the surrounding to see if we have attracted unwanted attention while we load up? Turning to Hawa, 'Bobbi' mutters "This is becoming one of my better hauls, so naturally, I'm a bit suspicious that something is going to go sideways".
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Mines 3/2 Fixer and 8 Negotiation, so happy to let Cavan take the lead with Al's contact. Let's make sure everyone is happy with the loot policy, then we can start asking who wants what. Here is the excel spread sheet to keep track:
Please double check the prices. For instance, not sure how we want to handle the street drugs? Sell at full price, sell at negotiated price, keep as party supplies.
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
OK, unless Al has a difference stance, I think we are all pretty much agree with option 2, with a few modifications. So we sell everything and split it up.
For instance, I would like to keep one of the pistols we just recovered in the church basement run. In my example, we sell all the guns and get X nueYen. my PC would 'buy' the pistol from the party so that I get the gun at the same price as Cavan would have negotiated a price from an NPC and the party still has the same X total to split up. Does this sound acceptable? The modification to option 2 Hawa suggested is that if there are items that need 'transfering' or are 'notable' (I assume things like Comms, Decks, and Vehicles? not guns and armor vests) then we can decide on a case by case and vote what to do with it. This sounds reasonable to me.
Also, you mentioned a party fund that is 2x or 4x more than a PC's share. I'm not understanding why we would want this option. It seems to add an unnecessary layer of accounting. Maybe I'm just not seeing a clear example.
Maybe someone can give a different scenario that the party bankroll fund would be used for that I'm not accounting for. I have an excel sheet I can link to a google shared doc that I use for other SR games. That way we can see whats up for sale and make notes about who acquired it, on what date, who wants to purchase it, when it was sold. The excel sheet assumes we are using the standard fencing rules from page 418. Give me a few hours and I'll load it up with our current haul and see if we want to use that.
Please let me know if I missed a crucial point in our loot division.
Female Elf; Tir na nOg Gun Adept
Sorry I must have been thinking of something else and forgot about that contact from the fixer. "Murphy, I got our coordinates. Let's load the boys into this truck", She says as pats the side of the vehicle. "Hawa, Al, if there is nothing more we can get out of Simon, then we need to get these boys to the drop". "We worked well together and we should do it again real soon. You have my contact". She stop to consider the scene, "Not sure we can all fit in the same vehicle. Do you need help loading the goods into your vehicle? I would be more than happy to watch Simon or help load your goods for you before we go". 'Bobbi' starts to prep the truck while she talks with Hawa and Al. She is trying to find a place to tie down 5 gangers in the truck or stuff them into the car. Can you describe the car and the truck, I'm trying to determine which vehicle can fit five plus Muprhy and Bobbi, where they wont be siting on top of us or have an easy chance jump out or attack the driver. I have no problem stuffing some into the trunk and some in the back of the car if that works better than the back of the truck. |
