Background:
Jolga’s gaze has always been drawn up at night. The moon and stars fascinate him and fill him with wonder. He’s spent his nights for years gazing up into the sky. Life in his Kellid tribe was dirty, brutal, and unstable but the stars were always so calm and beautiful. One night as he lay on his back in the desert, he encountered a scorpion that had small stars glowing on its shell. The scorpion thought into Jolga’s mind “The stars hear and see you. Give a piece of yourself to them and they will give a piece of themselves to you. Follow the stars, and you will find a home in them one day.” Thrilled and terrified, having no idea what to do, Jolga held perfectly still where he had sat up in surprise. The scorpion floated slowly up toward Jolga’s head and calmly sawed off his right ear with its claws.
Though the pain was terrible, Jolga was willing to pay this tribute to the heavens. The scorpion, whom Jolga named Polaris, led Jolga to a man in a city who could replace the missing ear with a star metal implant. But when he returned to his tribe, Jolga was banished for allowing a piece of technology to be made part of his body. Hurt and confused, Jolga began wandering the desert alone with Polaris. There are no night skies like that of the desert. When he can, he collects pieces of star metal. Always, he follows the scorpion’s guidance, eager to obey the wisdom from the heavens. Recently, Polaris led him to Scrapwall where Jolga hopes he will be able to find more of the star metal.
Important people in Jolga’s life:
One of his good friends, Groknar, was exiled from the tribe for stealing when both he and Jolga were young. Jolga and Groknar got into trouble together as children but Groknar was always one who would take it too far, which ended in his banishment.
Jolga’s mother (Korna) still lives with his Kellid tribe though his father has died. Korna is now an old matriarchical figure in the tribe as the main healer and witch doctor. Jolga’s brother Bortor is one of the warchief’s lieutenants.
Personality traits/description
Jolga speaks slowly and thoughtfully and peppers the parables, wisdom, and lore of his tribe throughout his conversation.
Despite being cast out, Jolga has done his best to keep to his tribe’s traditions, wearing traditional garb, never performing a mundane task with his right hand when he can avoid it, and touching the earth outside a building with his right hand before entering it. Much of this is due to how deeply he still misses his tribe, even though he was cast out ten years ago.
Jolga has a deep fascination with star metal and acquires it whenever possible.
