Jivan tries to pull Lukaas out on the next round. Round 3: CMB check to break grapple, incl. inspiration: 1d20 + 17 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 17 + 2 = 22 Lukaas is torn free of the grasping tentacles! Barely. Jivan doesn't have the self-telekinesis wild talent, so I don't think he can pull himself out this way.

GM E, Jivan took no damage from the black tentacles on the first round, because his force ward gives him 5 temporary HP. Accepting a point of burn this round on the telekinetic haul recharged the ward fully.

The Vudran concentrates, a storm of silvery threads flashing into being around him and coalescing into a whiplike tendril. "I will try to free you, Urzaia!" The tendril wraps itself around the warpriest's waist and pulls. It's not enough to break the tentacles' grasp, though. CMB check to break grapple: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (6) + 17 = 23

Autocorrect has done you wrong, Sleeping Sword. ETA: Good thing we were both able to act in the window to edit, eh? GM E, is it possible for one character to pull another one out of the black tentacles? Jivan has the telekinetic haul wild talent, and can (if he uses a point of burn) apply a great deal of lift to Urzaia. ETA: Jivan can lift up to 5,000 lbs. (or 2300 kg, for those of you in the civilized part of the world), which is a Heavy load for a 38 STR.

Jivan hustles forward, the haste spell giving him the speed to squeeze past Urzaia and launch his preferred projectile at the green skeletal warrior. Penny dropping vs. flat-footed AC, including haste, inspiration, and PBS: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 1 + 2 + 1 = 24

With his ioun torch lighting his way, Jivan peeks around the corner and looks northeast. If he sees anything hostile he shoots a high-velocity copper piece at it: Squeezing penny, including PBS: 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 1 - 4 = 16

A swarm of silvery threads suddenly fills the air around Jivan. He tosses the copper piece up into the threads, where it accelerates toward the wounded wight with a crack like thunder! Kinetic blast with pushing infusion. Penny for your thoughts, including inspiration and PBS: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 2 + 1 = 17

Jivan has the grace to look abashed. "Ah, forgive me. My background makes me perhaps inclined to see crime where there is only coincidence. When you said that the church was holding the title to his house, I assumed that the church also held his debts." He runs a hand over his wayfinder and sets it to glowing, then holds up his copper piece. "I am ready."

Jivan tosses the copper piece into the air, catching it without seeming to pay much attention to it. "Well, the dead so far have included a person who stood to collect a great deal of money from your church--money that their heirs wouldn't be able to get; someone who owed substantial amounts to the casino, so it's convenient that the church can take possession of his house after his death; and one who had just won a large jackpot, only to have her belongings stolen after her death. It is clear that your church has benefited from at least two of those deaths--we don't know for certain who might have ransacked her house. Not that I suspect you, of course, but...." He shrugs. "It does look suspicious. Tell me...if we were to ask Venture-Captain Torrsen the name of the first dead gnome, what would he tell us?"

Jivan nods, still deftly walking the copper piece across his hand. "Interesting, interesting. Quil, I have a question before we investigate further. How is the necromancer involved with your church?"

Jivan relaxes as the Ulfen drunks disperse, loosing the mental grip he was about to use to levitate a cart over them. He takes his usual turn investigating the death scene, looking in particular for traces of ectoplasm, and/or bloodstains that the Tien psychic could interrogate. "Since nothing was apparently stolen from the other death scenes, this is likely thieves taking advantage of an unguarded house after Ser Griddlu was killed. We still need the painting, in any case."

Jivan strokes his chin meditatively. "Ah. Interesting. Before we leave here, I am curious about one thing." He checks the floor around the dropped whiskey bottle, looking for signs that the contents spilled there.

"Hello, Quil. I'm Jivan. I am curious about the exotic and unusual customs of Avistan--what are the decorations for?" The Vudrani looks oddly at Dana. "Surely all of the bodies were not found in one place? And surely they are not still where they were found? I do not know about you, but I traveled many days to come here--I would hope that Quil would not have left the dead there for this long!"
