Female Cat, Common (Fey-Touched) Sorcerer 20//Bard 20
"I am Jen the Housecat. Titles commemorate valiant deeds, and surviving hundreds of adventures as a Housecat is certainly one of them. That is why I assumed such a title. If you insist on something formal, Ms. Jen, or Ms. Feline will suffice." "Can't you use magic?"

"Ah, that's interesting Mr. Mal, because there are plenty of casters in this room. There's one over *there* and over *there* and over *there*." Actually, I see that you have several wands with you right now. Now isn't Dalnen the one that has killed countless mages?" Jen can be equally snappy. :p

Beschi:
Jen's aura seems to be composed of three "parts", the yellow, playful side of a kitten, the stealthy green of a seasoned predator, and the blood-red of cold-blooded killer. Currently, the yellow and green predominate. "I sense a powerful presence near you. What is that there?"

The cat sits on its rump and looks up unassumingly at Dalnen, replying in fluent Thassilonian. "That is an advantage to being a cat. A dragon fears no cat when it is alive, and it fears nothing when it is dead. By broiling and killing with the same spell, I can preserve the flavor without the tinge of fear, only undeserved pride." "I am intrigued. The question is: if you have had many fights in the past, do you still have any fight in you for the future?"

Perhaps this is a candidate. Maybe the resume has passed my inspection, but now for the on-site interview. Jen suddenly teleports right next to Dalnen and polymorphs the dried meat into a yummy salmon, before nomming down on it. "Salmon is better than tuna, because salmon swims against the current and tuna swims with it. The extra fight gives it that extra taste. Of course, dire boar is even better and dragons are a treat, but I don't get to kill those very often," she says in Aklo, the contorted tongue of the Eldritch horrors of the first world.

Well, this adventurer seems to have some potential. It might be time to test this hypothesis. Walking stealthily along the rafters, Jen finds a nice spot generally overhead the Crimson Duke and bats her tail against the wood, making a quiet sound that would be missed in the hubbub of the bar, but oddly discomforting for a cautious adventurer, as it might indicate an ambush. She quickly makes sure that she isn't visible and observes his response to the noise. Stealth 1d20 + 50 ⇒ (9) + 50 = 59

Up in the rafter,
Only the bartender knew that she was here. At least, she was pretty sure that only the bartender knew. That and maybe any gods that extended their reach over this place, although the chances that they cared enough to pay attention was minimal. Jen might've been waiting and watching for nearly a week, since her last companion died, and she had grown restless. Now, she wasn't looking for a quick fling. No, Jen was looking for a dependable adventurer that didn't rush headlong into a dragon's den without protection from its fire or decide to have a staring contest with a Medusa or a Basilisk. This time, she would find someone smart and interesting to follow along. Once or twice, the happiness of adventuring was replaced by the happiness of alcohol, and even though she enjoyed the strongest dwarven liquor, she was also a real lightweight. Usually, this ended with her falling from the rafters, but whether through her cat luck or through her magic, she always ended up on her feet.
Jen is flawed chaotic good, with leanings towards chaotic neutral. She still has lots of traits of a cat, but generally helpful. Also, my backstory is more focused on how she came to be, but I prefer making something memorable in-game than working out a rigid and complicated narrative that won't really came into use.
Well, you have a lot of much cooler stuff. It doesn't really make sense for a house cat to be carrying around that sort of stuff, and I had lots of money to spend, so I just got utility stuff for protection. I wonder if anyone remembers the discussion, can a house cat kill a commoner? Looks can be deceiving. Also, look at Dalnen's mage slayer weapon. That is just insane. :D Also, when are we starting?
Introducing Jen the House Cat: Mechanically a Fey-Touched, Common Cat Sorcerer 20//Bard 20. Backstory:
She had dim memories of her life before the event. As far back as her memory would take her, Jen was just an ordinary house cat. Her owner was just some grunt working at the World Serpent Inn, and they didn't particularly pay attention to each other. After his untimely death in a teleportation accident, Jen was left to fend for herself as a stray, catching mice scampering around in the nooks and crannies of the inn. She stayed this way contently, for house cats have limited intelligence and little desire to stray outside. Several years passed and she crossed paths with a passing fey, traveling through the inn at the time. With the natural whimsy that fey have, the fey granted Jen a few of the powers of the fey, including intelligence and whimsy. Now an intelligent and easily bored creature, Jen followed many passing adventurers into their portals and explored many worlds, experiencing many new things and becoming learned in the ways of the world. She was seen by the feline gods as remarkably advanced for a lowly race of cat and was granted the power of sorcery, one that was developed throughout her lifetime. Naturally, the adventurers that she followed were all killed at the hands of CR-Inappropriate encounters or by old age, and this is where we reach this part of the story. Jen the House Cat remains perched, listening and watching, waiting for another interesting adventurer to pass by and strike her fancy.
Mechanically, Jen the Housecat is very Charisma-focused, with Enchantment and Illusion as her primary schools. She also carries around a lot of buffs, which is reason why adventurers don't mind having her follow them around. Also, she can talk and communicate through dreams, so no worries on the roleplaying issues of getting introduced! The issue with looking like (and being) a house cat is that I can't really carry around any staffs or obvious looking items, so I have stuff like rings and such magical items, mainly to make sure that I don't randomly die. It's built using almost entirely Pathfinder rules, except I took several feats from the Fabulous Cats! article from 3.5 WOTC. |
