Would you consider the Spherewalker prestige class for the future? Here is a character I had created for Curse of the Crimson Throne as a replacement, but I always thought he would work out well for a sandpoint campaign. If you don't mind working towards Spherewalker, I'll rework back to Level 1 (probably fighter), otherwise, I'll put together a different character.

This character was created as a replacement at lvl 7 for CotCT. I could roll him back to lvl 1 if you're still considering.

Updated Profile.

Ok, hp = Max 1st + 6hd + 7CON +3 Favored class = 10 + 2d10 + 4d8 + 7 + 3 ⇒ 10 + (6, 8) + (3, 3, 3, 5) + 7 + 3 = 48

Well, there you go, not my lucky day for rolls I don't think...

DM Aron Marczylo wrote:
Oh about the spherewalker I've been talking to people and it's best to remain at d8. It's still perfectly balanced, it's just those certain classes I looked at were lower than d8 when they really shouldn't be in this new one.

It's only 1 hp at the moment :). Is half+1 ok for each level of hp? I rolled it out offline and it came to that anyway :).

Here you go. I didn't really want to do the history in first person, but I had so much of it done that way already, I also didn't want to rewrite it all. I haven't ever built a character that didn't start at lvl 1, so let me know if I got anything wrong :). Also, I apologize if the history is too long... It just kept going ;)

Jel's Appearance:

If you catch Jel from his right side, he doesn't project a very imposing figure. His clothing is a bit worn although clearly appropriate for travel. He's a bit short, with very dark hair and the olive skin expected of a Varisian. He carries two starknives in a way that shows he knows how to use them. He has a charming smile on an otherwise weatherworn face.

However, if you catch Jel from the left side, you are immediately struck by the tattoo covering the left half of his face and left arm (actually the entire left side of his body were you able to see that much). Of typical Varisian design it is in Thassilonian script. Were you to read it, it would present a story of hardship, travel. and the night sky.

Of course, if you were to notice all of this, you would have had to get past Jel's scarf, which is hard to miss. It is an unusually deep blue that brings to mind the sky just before the black of night sets in.

History:

"I have no memory of my parents. The only family I remember from my childhood is the other kids Gaedren Lamm had enslaved. I got along fairly well, not too many beatings. I was pretty good at getting around the city so I was given a lot of tasks running around... delivering stuff mostly.

"One specific job Lamm gave me changed everything. I was supposed to deliver a package to a specific person at a specific place, but when I got there, the building didn't exist and no one had heard of it or the person I was supposed to deliver it to. Naturally I opened the package to see if I could get a clue where it belonged (I had not been instructed not to). It was a holy symbol of Desna. I was entranced. Thinking it might belong to some Clergy of the church of Desna, I sought them out. No one claimed the symbol, so I kept it, and began to learn what I could of Desna.

"I was young, and a bit naive. Desna's teachings made me start to think about finding out about the world, which I couldn't do as one of Lamm's slaves. I probably said something stupid, and he found my holy symbol... which he promptly broke in the process of beating me nearly to death. I made it to the church and they nursed me back to health and protected me, but it was an isolated life for a young boy. After a couple of years of keeping quiet and learning the ropes, the Varisian in me made me restless and I set out to explore the world. That was 10 years ago.

"I probably wouldn't have made it very far, but I think Desna was watching out for me. I got picked up by a band of Varisians who pretty much adopted me and taught me everything I could want to know about the world. They weren't very religious, but they did have a fair number of magic users, which was a bit unusual. I learned what magic I could from them, mostly in the realm of conjuring (they really loved Dimension Door for some reason). I also learned a great deal about Healing. However, it was not until Leylian came into my life that I felt like I had a plan.

"Ah, Leylian. I was about seventeen and had started heading out on my own more and more, although I always ended up back with the group when we moved on. But on one such excursion, I met her. She was an elf, or at least appeared to be one. She was very different from any of the Varisians I was with and taught me much of the world that they couldn't. I grew to know the world as a place of wilderness. We never spent time together in towns or cities, it was always in the wilderness, and I learned to survive on my own.

"She used magic all the time, but didn't want to teach it to me. She thought I should know how to survive without the aids of magic, but I still picked up a lot. Since that time, learning magic has seemed simpler. Unfortunately, I am sad to say, it couldn't last forever. We were having one of our long talks about Desna, and she was just suggesting I should visit some of the sacred temples around the region as we came up to my families camp. I didn't think anything of it, but she had never come into camp with me. As I was about to start introducing her, one of the group's seers, an older woman, pointed at Leylian and shouted. I turned to see what she was pointing at, but Leylian had gone. The old woman exclaimed that I had been conversing with some type of celestial being. I can honestly say I was a bit surprised. I don't know who Leylian really was, or what her purpose was, but she made my life better. That's all that matters to me. I haven't seen her since that day, but I figure that's because she taught me all I needed to know. I do hope to see her again....

"Things became a bit awkward for me with those I considered my family. They started to keep separate from me, and it was uncomfortable. I would have thought it would be seen as a blessing, but the old seer wasn't convinced Leylian was a good thing (I think she was offended that Leylian had not come to her). In any case, I decided to take Leylian's advice and set out to see some of the holy places of Desna. That was about 3 years ago.

"I set out on my own, a bit better prepared to face the world than when I was 12. I traveled many places. I went as far west as Magnimar and visited Desna's temple in Sandpoint. It was there that I became a Cleric of Desna. I had traveled far, but seeing such a grand temple made me dedicate much of my learning to healing in Desna's name. However, it was also here, in a raid by goblins, that I realized I would need better fighting skills if I was to remain on my own.

"From Sandpoint I traveled north, into the heart of Varisia. I sought out Desna's holy places, from small village temples, to near secret places in the heart of the wilderness. I practiced with my starknife constantly, using it as a focal point for my worship of Desna. I was often faced with creatures of the wild that disliked my presence, and I had many encounters with evil and cruel creatures. I was sometimes able to escape unscathed, but more often than not I was able to practice my healing arts as well. While I retreated when the situation was too difficult for me, I managed to eliminate much evil from the wilds as I moved through them. There are a few less goblins and undead in the world because of me.

"Before the northern lands froze me to death, I turned east and south. I joined a caravan for a while, which was a welcome change from my solo life. It made me realize that while I could journey far and wide by myself, and experience many wondrous things, I might want to share those experiences with others. I often found myself remembering Leylian, and wishing I could find her again.

"The caravan traveled all the way to Lastwall in the east. As it was breaking up, I bid farewell to my new friends and planned to set out on my own once again. I had grown strong and confident, as I found myself a match for even the guards of the caravan traveling far in the wilderness. There were rumors in Lastwall about a temple of Desna not that far away that had been desecrated by some unknown evil. I could find no one that concerned with the matter, so I set out to find the place on my own.

"I found the place easily enough. When I was close I had a dream in which Leylian appeared to me and told me that I would succeed in this most dangerous of trials, and that Desna would bless me for the service. When I awoke I knew exactly where to go, and made my way there cautiously. It was good I had had the dream to give me confidence as the temple was occupied by a terrifying presence.

"It was a demon… a follower of Lamashtu who had thought to take the holy place and make it over into a place for evil. I was frightened as I did not consider myself a match for such a demon. I will not go into details, but it was a close affair that I was not sure I would survive even when the demon lay dead at my feet. My wounds were serious and while I applied my own healing magic to save my life, I was afraid some other ally of the demon might come upon me as I rested. However, I was so tired I was unable to move, and slept at the heart of the temple.

"While I slept, i was visited by Desna. It was not a dream, even though I was asleep. Or, perhaps it was a dream, even though I was fully aware. Desna told me that I had served her more than many of her followers. She offered me the chance to become one of her devoted spherewalkers, walking the lands, spreading the joy of life that she wanted all peoples of the world to know. Who was I to refuse my goddess? When I awoke, the temple had been cleansed and I was refreshed as I had not been in a long time.

"I stayed in the temple for many days, rebuilding it as I could, and making sure no other evil creatures were lurking to reclaim the space when I left. If they had been there, they had fled. I was filled with a joy I had not known since my days learning of the world with Leylian. I knew the life I wanted to live, the one Desna asked of me, and Leylian would be proud of. I still hoped to meet her again someday, but I figured she would show up when I least expected.

"I was troubled by only one thing. The man that had destroyed my childhood and nearly killed me was still a plague upon the world. I decided my first act would be to free the other children Lamm had enslaved, and bring them the chance to have joy in life.

"I was thrilled to discover, however, that Lamm had already been destroyed by a band of heroes that seemed to have saved Korvosa from a number of terrible events. I was also a bit disappointed that I wouldn't be able to confront Lamm personally, but that feeling did not last long. I decided I would seek an audience with these heroes of Korvosa, to thank them personally for this small service they had provided me. I marveled at the city I had left so many years ago. The priests that had saved my life did not recognize me at all. It took me a long time to convince them I was who I said… but they listened to the story of my adventures with eager ears.

"I feel that I have done much in my short time adventuring, but at the same time I feel as if my journey is only beginning. What new trials does Desna have planned for me in the days to come? What new joys do I have to look forward to seeing each and every day?"

I've got the sheet worked out, but will work on the backstory and get it posted sometime after I get some food :)

Here he is as I created him a while ago, but I think I'll rework him some, may not take varisian tatoo, or in a different school. I think I'll do Fighter 3/Cleric 3/Spherewalker 1 at this point. The backstory will work almost identical (in profile), but I'll add to it so I come back to Korvosa as lvl 7, finding Lamm dead, much to my surprise and delight.

I'll post a sheet here later today as I get it figured out. If you guys want him, I'll update the profile and start catching up on the past bit of the story :).

Haven't had time to think about this character :). I'll bow out, save him for Crimson Throne. Thanks, though.

This character was built specifically for Curse of the Crimson Thrown. If you're ok with the Spherewalker Prestige class I'd love to put him in that game.

If it's one of the others, I have a Martial Artist Monk that I've been trying to find a game for, but I'm interested in all of the games you mentioned.

I don't do Skype, but if it's PbP here I'm all for it.

I made this character for Curse of the Crimson Throne, but always thought he would be good for something in Sandpoint. He's built to multiclass between wizard and ranger, ending up a Spherewalker of Desna. If that sounds interesting, I'll rework the details to explain how he's back in Sandpoint and pick a campaign trait and stuff later today.

Good luck, guys, guess Jel will have to take down Lamm another time.

Jel stares delightedly back and forth between Yenrry and Gaius.

Did he really just fix his hair?

"Ah," says Jel, looking at Durant carefully. "If that is how we think of things, we shall have to all stay in bed at home all the time for fear of tripping over a rock that starts an avalanche..." He smiles his not so charming smile once again, "All actions have consequences. Each must have faith that his or her actions will save more lives than they take, if they wish to act to save anyone."

Durant wrote:

"You recognized me?" he smiles. "That's incredible! I'm sorry to say I can't say the same, but my memory plays tricks on me sometimes from those days. I've also... tried to forget a lot...

No troubles, we both looked different then. I see a few of the old Lambs now and then. I don't talk with them though. Bad memories on both sides. Only brought it up now because you mentioned it.

"Well, I hope Lamm recognizes me too. I want him to know it was me that took him down!"

"You recognized me?" he smiles. "That's incredible! I'm sorry to say I can't say the same, but my memory plays tricks on me sometimes from those days. I've also... tried to forget a lot...

"I know of the Lamms. I was one of them! And whatever ambition it may seem Lamm lacks... he more than makes up for with his cruelty. My only purpose in this city is to see him dead, or at least find justice. I'll do whatever it takes."

He puts his starknife away and looks at Vyshael...

"I have no interest in being a dead hero or any kind of fool, but do not mistake passion for lack of caution or conviction. Some passion is not as blind as you would seem to think."

Just wanted to point out that lighthearted in a bar trying to feel out a group is not the same as lighthearted throughout the campaign :)

Jel tries to get his knife out from being stuck in the table.

STR:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

Ha! I hope no one saw that...

Jel's manner cools noticeably.

It's no good trying to distract myself. These people are the same as me, and we are all gathered here tonight for a reason.

Jel's Starknife is drawn before he even knows it. He pounds it into the table where several are sitting.

"That... man... doesn't just use children," his voice is cold. "He destroys their lives. And he kills them. Death is the smallest thing he deserves." He looks around the table, "There are no more important things."

Yenrry Clockweaver wrote:

Yenrry ignores Jel's rudeness and answers his questions about his plays. "I have indeed written plays. Many of them. Though, honestly, they haven't received much recognition. As for your being in one? I see why not. Though playing more than one character creates confusion in the mind of the audience, unless you are so distinctly different as to be unrecognizable from your other self. This, friend, is a task that is best left to the professionals."

"Yes... Yes, that makes sense," he says contemplatively. After a moment's thought, Jel stands with renewed confidence. "Well then, I shall take whatever role is written for me, as long as it's not the villain, though. I doubt I could do such a role justice. That begs the question, though. Who among us, " he pauses, gesturing to the whole room, "could play our villain?"

Jel stares a bit at Yenrry. "How can someone so small have so MUCH to say?" he says rather rudely. "Tell me, " he tosses his last dart back at the board...

Dex; 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19.

"Have you really written plays? I've never been in a play... I would love to see what it's like. What parts could I have? Can you have more than one?" He seems quite excited. "Could I be the tragic hero AND the comic relief?"

Jel responds to Chavakala, "Not at all, not at all." He throws another dart.

Dex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

He says to no one in particular, "Chance... is not the same as Luck... be it divine providence or not."

Gaius Tindareus wrote:

That is quite understandable. Most people grossly overestimate their own sex appeal. Do not feel bad, you are not alone.

"Well, those of us without the looks will just have to settle for our skill at darts!"

Vyshael Invisus wrote:

However, I won't attribute the coincidence of so many of us here to some sort of divine influence... Rather, I suspect it's just further evidence of just how cancerous Lamm truly is."[/b]

...

Vyshael laughs and adds, "I'm suddenly very glad you joined us, Vesera.", brushing his hair aside to reveal a pointed ear.

Jel's eyes narrow slightly at the first comment, but his smile quickly returns. "Don't worry, Vyshael, we all still think you're pretty."

Jel walks up to Chevakala again. "What is this game?"

Dex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

"Did I win?" He smiles and introduces himself to the growing crowd. "My name's Jel Camo and" his eyes twinkling, "I myself don't have any secrets."

Jel's smile seems genuine again. "But this is wonderful, my friends. Desna is smiling on us all tonight it seems." His arms open wide in a friendly gesture, seemingly unaware of the tension level in the room. "Just how many of us have... business... with that despicable man?" He leans back in his chair, apparently relaxed, but ready to tumble backwards should things get complicated.

Jel's eyes narrow at the mention of Lamm's name. With a sharp reduction in his cavalier manner, he walks purposefully over to the tall woman, Melina, and takes a seat, looking at her expectantly. "I must say I find your talk fascinating. Perhaps I can help you in your quest for information." His face attempts a cheerful expression but remains grim.

What does she know?

Vyshael Invisus wrote:

Vyshael winces slightly at the painful reminder and turns to the newcomer, "Unless you care more about politics than power, you're better off hoping that they do not. The Acadamae, at least."

"Not sure I care about politics or power, to tell the truth. Although, a little of both could come in handy I'm sure. But the Acadamae always seemed a bit fancy, anyway... I could probably go for a more... practical approach."

Quote:

Vyshael nods. "Well, from the rumours, she cares naught for the people, and they're happy to reciprocate. Besides which, there are more than a few who believe that the old man was taken in by her, shall we say, charms?"

Jel chuckles at this statement, "But one can hardly blame him for that... unless you're suggesting she actually bewitched him in some manner? Surely he was protected from something like that!"

"How I came to be here? Well, I walked," he smiles. "Actually, I was born here, or at least I think I was. I was here as a child for a number of years, and lets just say I have some... business I have to take care of before I feel I can get on with my life." He seems a bit flustered to actually be talking about his past. "I'm planning on enrolling in one of the magic schools around here if they'll have me... assuming they survive the night."

Finished my backstory and character info. In the profile for anyone interested :)

"Worried? Why would you be worried? What's the worst that could happen?" He smiles jovially and tosses a handful of coins on the counter. "How about a round on me? Maybe we can get some of you to relax while we're safe locked away in here.... Or we could head out and join the fun." His grin and wink makes it impossible to tell if he's joking or not.

Jel is a bit perturbed by all the serious talk and turns to contemplate the barred door. He takes a long drink and speaks to the whole group. "Isn't it all terribly exciting, though? This is my first riot. Do they happen often here. I've been gone from the city so long I don't recall them at all..."

"Oh, the King's dead?" Jel's smile and cocky attitude seem to fade a bit. I seem to remember he was a likable enough guy. So... who's health do we get to drink to now then, the queen?"

was halplm above, now I'm Jel Camo, wandering Varisian just come back to the city. I've got my character sheet mostly worked out, but I'm a bit too tired to get it posted tonight, will do first thing tomorrow.

A young, not-so-pretty, Varisian approaches the bar from a dark corner he had been occupying. "Hello, Hello! I must say, I did not expect this kind of excitement my first day back in the city. I didn't think this place could be WORSE than I remembered it." His friendly smile seems oddly out of place on his dark, weathered face.

"Name's Jel." He leans in close to Chavakala and winks boldly. "And I don't mind talking about my past."
