Martial Tradition: Guards of the Cycle
Alignment: Any Non-Evil
The Guards are a group rooted in deep faith, though to call them priests would be a grand overstatement. While they revere the gods (Osiris, Isis, and Sekhmet above most others), their primary focus is on the protection of life, the slaying of enemies, and the sanctity of the afterlife. As a result, they count many worshipers of Pharasma among their ranks, though adherents to the ancient Osirian pantheon make up the vast majority of their members.
While the tradition has been on the decline in recent years, it is still passed down from parent to child in a few devout families, each generation brought up with a powerful sense of duty to protecting this cycle of life, death, and the Great Beyond.
The Guards' primary function these days is steeped in rooting out the remnants of the old necromantic cults in Osirion, and putting down any undead they come across (hostile or not, usually). Cheating death is a cardinal sin to one of the Guards, the more hardline even taking a strong stance against resurrection magic, and even the less zealous reluctant to be brought back unless in the process of thwarting a great disturbance to the natural order.
