I'm not quite sure on this one. If a PC wants to use Acrobatics to move through a creature's square, he must add 5 to the CMD. What about creatures that cover multiple squares? For example, an ogre in a 10' wide corridor, and the PC wants to tumble behind it. Does that require one Acrobatics check or two? Is the check just at +5, or would you add +2 for multiple threatened squares? (I know the text says multiple opponents, but it could be interpreted as multiple threatened squares as well).

What would a 20-foot cone spell area look like? I have a character (half-giant) in my game that uses his Stomp ability, which is listed as a 20 foot cone-shaped spread. I can figure out the straight-sided one (where the caster is at one corner and it has two straight sides) but the angled one has me stumped. The best I could come up with is 2 squares, then two rows of 6, then another row of 2 squares. Does this sound about right?

This may have been answered in one of the other Magus threads, but I couldn't find it.

Black Blade in Ultimate Magic wrote:
A black blade is always a one-handed slashing weapon, a rapier, or a sword cane (see the Advanced Player’s Guide). The magus chooses the blade’s type upon gaining the blade, and once chosen, it can’t be changed.

Does this mean that the only weapons that can be Black Blades are swords, or can axes and sickles, and similar weapons, also be Black Blades? In the first sentence, it says any one-handed slashing weapon, but in the second it says "the blade's type", which makes it sound (to my GM anyway) that swords are the only option.

In the spell Infernal Healing (from the Inner Sea Guide), the material component is 'a drop of devil's blood or one dose of Unholy Water'. Unholy Water comes in a 1 pint flask, all of which is used when using it as a splash weapon, and as a spell component in other spells. Is this the case with Infernal Healing? Why state 'one dose' instead of 'one flask'?

Swarms take 50% more damage from splash weapons, I understand that. But since a swarm cannot be targeted by any spell or effect that targets a single creature or group of creatures, does the swarm take only the splash damage, or the direct hit damage, even though the splash weapon targets a single creature? If the direct damage does not apply, does the swarm take damage from all affected squares of the splash effect? And is this damage totaled and then multiplied by 1.5? Or is each individual square multiplied, rounded down, then added together?

I've been playing since 1st edition, and am now running a Pathfinder campaign. Way back in the day, most groups I ran in the DM said you had to rest overnight to gain the benefits of a new level. My group at present is in a dungeon, but not far from a safe haven. There's nothing I can find in the Core book or Gamemastery Guide that says anything about needing to 'rest and contemplate' I believe the wording was, the experiences that gained you a level. So, do you GM's out there allow 'instant leveling' even in the middle of a dungeon, or do you make them wait until they reach a place of relative safety?

Recently in my game, the question came up "can a wizard brew a divine potion?". Specifically, I have a Dhampir PC that needs Inflict Wounds potions. Could the alchemist whip up a few? The Alchemist gets Cure Wounds spells on his list, but not Inflict. Also, the sorcerer (who is the Dhampir) was thinking of picking up Brew Potion just so he can make his own Inflict potions. Is any of this possible? I know that in general, you can use item creation feats to create magic items if you do not have the prerequisites by increasing the DC by 5, but does this apply to an arcane caster trying to duplicate a divine spell?

I can't seem to find a definitive answer to this question: If an incorporeal creature casts a spell at a corporeal target, does the spell do only half damage, or does it do full damage? Under the description of Incorporeal, it says that an incorporeal creature struck with a non-force based damaging spell only takes half damage. Under the Sorcerer bloodline, at 15th level they get Incorporeal Form as a spell-like ability, and the description states that the sorcerer's spells do only half damage to corporeal targets. However, in 3.5, it states that spells cast by an incorporeal creature affect corporeal creatures normally. I realize that the last was taken from 3.5, but it is the only reference I could find that stated the effects of spells cast by incorporeal creatures, rather than a PC under the effect of a spell (or at least a spell-like ability).

Can Arcane Strike be used on ranged weapons such as bows and crossbows? The question has come up in my game, and I (running the game) said it doesn't, and darn near had a rebellion from the players, since they all thought it would work just fine. So, is arcane strike basically a Magic Weapon spell in a feat, or is there a limit to its use?

If you have an encounter of, say, 2 CR 2 creatures and a CR 3 creature, what would be the EL (Encounter Level)? 2 CR 2 creatures add up to a CR 4 encounter, but if you add the XP's gained for a CR 3 and a CR 4, it comes up to 2000 xp's, which is right between a CR 5 and a CR 6. So, do you round up or down in such a situation? On a related question, and I know this was asked on another thread, but is it possible to get a peek at how a monster with racial HD and class levels is handled? I have the Bestiary on preorder, but I'm running a campaign now, and I am hoping for a little help from Paizo on how to handle this.

Can Magical Knack trait (+2 caster levels, total caster level no higher than total character levels), fulfill the requirement of 3rd level spellcaster for a 2nd level fighter/1st level wizard? I have a character in my game that is about to make 3rd level, and I need to know how to answer.

The search engine is temporarily down, and I would like an answer as soon as possible. An odd situation came up in the last game session I ran, and the party (and me) are now divided into two camps over the issue. The player was carrying his shield (heavy steel) in his primary hand, intending to use it to shield bash opponents as a non-lethal option in combat. The issues are: 1) I considered that to be an unusual method of wielding the shield (as it was in his primary, not secondary, hand) and therefore got the -4 for non-proficiency (he is a fighter and does have shield proficiency). Another player said that shield bashing is something anyone trained in a shield can do, regardless of which hand it was in. A third opinion was that the attack could occur, but should have the -4 for using a lethal weapon in a non-lethal manner. The player wanting to do the shield bash didn't think he should have any minuses, because he was using a weapon in a primary hand, and 'just trying to bonk him'. I would really appreciate help untangling this, in case he tries it again.

If you take the adopted trait, do you get a racial trait 'free' as a part of the adopted trait, or does the adopted trait just give you the option of making another trait pick a racial trait?

For the past several days, I have been trying to find answers to some questions, and I wanted to make sure there weren't already threads that answered them, but every time I try to search the messageboards, I get a "Searching is temporarily unavailable" message. Has anyone else had this problem?

A Good-aligned Cleric has an aura of Good, strength dependent on class level. Is this aura conferred to his or her weapon, to overcome DR /good? Would it work for only melee weapons, or for ranged weapons as well? My group is about to confront a creature with DR 5/Good, and there is a 5th level Cleric in the group, so I would like opinions on the matter. I could have sworn I saw a reference somewhere that the aura would pass on to melee weapons, but now I can't find it. Thanks for any assistance and comments.

I'm living in Norfolk, VA, and hope to begin running a Beta test game soon here, but I would really like to play in a Society campaign.
