Male Andoran Armsman 6
Well, I really hate to say it, but I think I'm going to have to drop this game... I was recently promoted at work, which is where I used to do the majority of my posting, but with my new responsibilities I just don't have that time (and it just isn't ethically okay anyway). I had a very, very fun time with you all and I'm sorry I won't get to play with all the rest of you. And Jasmine, you were the perfect Aes Sedai to my Warder! It's been a blast!
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Okay, so an update since I haven't been around... Work has been rather hectic for me the past two weeks, but I'm hoping things will slow down enough for me to start posting again (I post at work because at home I have to deal with a baby and I don't really like to jump online). But next week (starting this Saturday) I'll be on vacation and without Internet at all. So I won't be around, and I still haven't update my character! I hope it doesn't cause too many problems. Feel free to DMPC Jed, or ASPC (Aes Sedai PC) if Jasmine wants to take control of him. I'll be back well-rested in a week, and hopefully will have some more time to quickly update my character and get a good post in here and there!

Jed is a tall, tan-skinned man with broad shoulders. He has dark brown hair, usually kept to a reasonable length, and wears a clean cut beard. Despite being a Warder, Jed wears rather restricting armor and a shield. You'll also notice he carries his sword with his left hand, marking him as a southpaw. He dresses plainly otherwise, in simple brown colors. Jed also wears a red sash tied around his left upper arm, which anyone from Andor and perhaps Cairhien would know signifies his support for Queen Morgase. His accent marks him as from Andor. Jed sheathes his longsword and puts away his shield once Jasmine speaks. He steps forward to clasp hands with his fellow Warder, the man named A'Mar. "It is good to meet you." And when Rhoekk introduces himself, Jed greets him in the best Aiel way he can muster, based on his limited understanding and what he has learned from Fiallain. "May you always find water and shade, Rhoekk." Okay, I should be able to redo my character sometime this weekend or on Monday. I'm finally winding down again.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Ok, so its a template instead of a class... That means I'll have to redo my current level (no big deal because I have to go back and redo all of my feats anyway, for the armsman). I'm extremely swamped at work and likely won't have time to do this until next weekend. I'm actually working over the weekend. And for right now, I'm going to relax while I can.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
"Ryland and Fiallain, the Children of the Light are pests and menaces, but they are just misguided. We will only foster their hatred by killing them. If at all possible, spare their lives." Jed raises his sword into a defensive posture, ready to fight should it be necessary. If a battle breaks out and I am unable to post, have Jed fight trying to deal non-lethal damage. If Jasmine gets injured, all bets are off, and Jed will immediately switch to killing blows.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Thanks for the wild ride DM! It really has been amazing playing with you and the rest of the group. You did an amazing job at immersing us in Jordan's world. Would you mind if someone were to take over your job, or would you prefer it be left alone? I'd like to continue playing if everyone is up for it, and if someone would be interested in running it, we could do that. I would consider it myself, though I think I would need some time to put things together (having never run a homebrew before).
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Jed stops Jasper from entering the shop, lest there be someone waiting inside. He quickly dons his Warder's Cloak and enters the room himself, sword still sheathed but ready to be pulled should someone be inside. He moves in as quickly and quietly as he can, scanning the immediate area. If he doesn't find anyone or anything dangerous, he'll motion for the rest to come in while he continues his search. If there are stairs to head up to the living quarters above, he waits until the rest of the group are in before heading up the steps. Stealth w/ cloak: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (14) + 15 = 29
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Jed nods to Jasmine. "Ryland, why don't you join me? Maybe you'll notice something I don't." Whether Ryland joins Jed or not, he'll head to the back as requested and search around for any clues as to what may have happened. It has been quite some time since Daria has disappeared, but he checks for tracks and such anyway, just in case. He also looks to determine whether there is a back door or any windows. He checks the locks on anything he finds. Is the building just one floor? Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (14) + 10 = 24
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Jed will aid with the "Gather Information."
Jed keeps his eyes out for someone who looks like they may have used a seamstress recently, based on their clothing. Those he finds, he points out to Jasmine and the rest of the group, but leaves them to do the talking. Jed finds that his presence can sometimes be intimidating, and he doesn't want to scare people into giving them information unless he has to.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Jed is not currently wearing the cloak because he doesn't want to attract too much attention to the fact that he is a Warder. His armor is attention enough, I would imagine. Jed, smelling fresh and now with well-polished armor and a sharpened sword (currently in its sheath, of course) enters the common area early, before Jasmine arrives. He smiles as Jasmine enters, and it is clear to everyone that he is in a very good mood. The recent turn of events has been good for Jed, though he does have more weight on his shoulders now. Still, having a Warder's cloak has done wonders for Jed's mood. As Jasmine speaks, Jed finds himself nodding along with her words, not because he feels he must concur, but because it is the most logical thing to do.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Hey guys, I just wanted to let you know that I haven't had much time to post lately. We are coming upon an important milestone at work, and once that is passed I should have a little more time on hand. I have been reading your posts though. Jed would probably just take a bath of his own and then head down to the common room to join the rest of the group at the table. If things are still moving along slowly, I'll make my post as soon as I have the time.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Jed grins broadly at Jasmines chiding. Too late, Jasmine. I already have a few ideas. Jed had been planning to sneak up on Jasmine that very night. Somehow, he has a feeling she already knows this. As Jasper makes his apology, Jed does not say a word. Instead, he steps forward and clasps arms with him. This simply act is more than enough to show Jasper that there is no problem between them. He then walks back to his horse, stopping to give Ryland a reassuring pat on the shoulder, having noticed his brooding as of late (and the change in his eyes). Quietly, for Ryland's ears only, Jed says, "If you wish to talk, I will be willing to lend an ear." "I think our first order of business should be to secure lodging for the next three days. I would like to then see what rumors have sprung up, about this battle. And of course, we have some business in Caemlyn of our own before we must meet at the Sun Throne."
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Alright! Back in action! Except, I won't have any time to post until probably Monday, unfortunately. Painting the house this weekend, and I'm just too tired after a long day today. Very excited, though! I just finished my re-read of Dragon Reborn and am moving onto Shadow Rising pretty soon.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
In the end, I'm playing because of flavor anyway. Unfortunately, balancing the game entirely would probably end up losing some of the trueness to the story. After all, the channeler's are much more powerful than your typically character in WoT. That's why everyone is always so afraid of Aes Sedai. I wonder how WoT would play out in the FATE system... I'll have to look into that.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
It seems as if the primary class to take Warder should be Woodsman... So I don't have a lot of the background most warder's have because I didn't go the woodsman route, such as stealth (though the cloak helps), tracking, etc. I think the warder's skill list is a little lacking as well. The Warder class itself is almost entirely a compilation of bonus feats (such as power attack, cleave, etc) which an armsman could just take as their bonus feat anyway. In fact, the only reason I didn't have power attack already is because I would get it for free anyway. It would be really nice to be able to use sword forms, as Jasmine suggested. Either the version Jasper found, or just take from the blademaster class. I've actually thought about multiclassing into blademaster or commander, but both of those would take too much effort to get to with very little reward. I can't afford to take the entire whirlwind attack feat path, for example, to just qualify for blademaster. Really, the whole system needs to be updated, but each project that has started to do so has become to overwhelmed and failed.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Jed is leveled up. I have tentatively taken Heroic Surge for his level 7 feat, but I may still change that to Latent Old Blood... I still want to think about where to take my character with it, and I may just push it off until level 9 and 11 (for the Old Blood feat). Jasmine: Fortitude is up to +10 now. Also, the Warder class notes that all of the Warder's needs are paid for by the Aes Sedai he protects. Do you want to just combine my wealth into yours to roleplay that out? DM: The Warder's cloak gives a -10 penalty to spot checks made to find Jed. But that is almost the same as saying I get a +10 to stealth since we have combined spot and listen, so I've just incorporated that into my stealth check. Also, a question about the +2 circumstance bonus it gives to defense... Does that bonus count towards flat-footed or touch AC? Also, How are we handling Power Attack? Are we going with WOT rules (subtract any number up to your base attack bonus from attack, and add that number to damage)? Or are we going with Pathfinder rules (subtract a limited number from attack and add twice that number to damage)?
Male Andoran Armsman 6
I had been considering taking Latent Old Blood myself... But I'm not sure I can justify it just yet... It would be cool to multiclass into Commander at some point, though, and Old Blood could really make that interesting. DM Jonasty, I'll send you a PM to discuss this possibility for the longterm future when I think more about it. It will probably not happen for a good long time, if at all. That depends on how far you intend us to go, I suppose. Will we end up level 20 by the time we're done playing? :)
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Thanks DM. Thematically, you can kind of think of the Warder as having all three of those feats (reflexes, fort, will). But I think your choice of Great Fortitude is probably the best one to fit both thematically and from a game balance standpoint. I'm considering taking Heroic Surge for my feat choice this level, but I've also been looking at going the Dodge/Mobility/Spring Attack route. I'll have to think on it, I guess. Level up should happen sometime tonight or tomorrow. Also, just an FYI. I'll be out of town from Thursday through Sunday and without internet access. Please feel free to make a few assumptions on my part if I am holding the game back. I think you have a decent grasp of my character at this point. Or, if you'd like, Jasmine can control Jed since he'll be following her lead most of the time anyway. Jed's goal for this next book is to work on being stone-faced (basically, emulate Lan). So I'll probably try and have that come across as a struggle for him, internally.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
I really think this group has come into its own. We have some really great chemistry, I think, and I was seriously shaking with excitement at some of your posts, DM. Very, very, very excited to move onto "Book 2". I am also very excited that I get to take my first level as Warder! One of the benefits of being a level 1 Warder is the Warder's Cloak. Should I include that when I level up, or are you planning on that being a story driven benefit? Also, since it has been a while, I just want to confirm a couple of things. We are playing with the Pathfinder feat progression, right? So we get a feat at this level? Also, I just want to confirm from our discussion before, that a 4th level Warder will receive Lightning Reflexes or Greater Fortitude instead of Iron Will (since Iron Will doesn't make any sense, as the Warder uses the Aes Sedai's will anyway)? Do you have a preference on which one the Warder receives? Finally, I get Power Attack! And stealth and perception are finally class skills!
Male Andoran Armsman 6
So the dome is down now? If not, please ignore the following. I'm also assuming Jasper collapsed due to channeling to help the Asha'man while staggered. Jed glowers at the Asha'man who hadn't been willing to help, but turns to look at Jasper once again. To his dismay, Jasper has collapsed onto the ground and is not moving. Jed turns back to Jasmine, who is now walking to him, calmly and with her head held high, the picture of a true Aes Sedai. Jed too walks calmly over to Jasmine and without a single word envelopes her in his arms and kisses her forehead. He doesn't linger, however, as he knows Jasper needs her help. Jed leads her over to Jasper, saying only a few words. "Quickly, this way." I hope I didn't assume too much.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Round 7: Jed feels a sharp pang of fear, some of it his own, but some of it he knows is Jasmine's. Through the fear rises a feeling that Jed has become rather used to lately. It is a feeling of strong determination. Jasmine's determination fuels Jed's own determination. "Jasmine, stand strong!" Jed looks into Jasmine's eyes for a brief second and she feels some of her strength returning. He then turns to find someone who could be solidifying the air in place, leaving Jasmine behind. Assuming he finds an Asha'man.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Actions: Free action to lend Jasmine 25 hit points. Move and standard to find and intimidate someone into bringing down the dome just long enough for Jasmine to make it through. HP now at 32/78. Jasmine should be up to 36/38.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Speaking from experience, the day or two after PAX pretty much has to be rest and relaxation days. PAX is a very fun, but also extremely tiring experience. You are up and walking about and having a good time from 9 in the morning to after midnight, easily, for three days in a row. I'm sure he'll be back relatively soon.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Round 6:
Jed takes the reins from Jasmine and continues to guide them through the throng of enemies and allies. He takes it slow enough to weave a course that takes them past fewer spears, but fast enough to avoid most of those that do take a stab at them. Full-round to take the reins and guide the horse without provoking AoO's. Jasmine, next round I'll probably lend you some HP :) Sorry for the short post, I had a very long day!
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Have fun a PAX East! I attended PAX Prime last year and had an absolute blast! Unfortunately, I'm nowhere near either East or Prime, so I'll probably not be able to go to either again for quite a while. I highly recommend the Extra Credits panel if you find the time. I also really enjoyed the Geek Parenting forum, but that's probably because I have a young son (he's 14 months now). It was surprisingly informative, and even more surprising was how many people showed up at that panel. I have a busy couple of day's, so my posts may be a little shorter and less thought out than before. So sorry in advance if I'm a little late for round 6 or 7, or if my posts seems a little boring.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Round 5:
Ride: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19 Jed deftly jumps onto the horse's back, his armor not causing him any trouble. Once atop, he uses his shield to bat away any wild stabs by the Shaido who are blinded by Jasmine's bright light. "Nice work with that light!" Though Jasmine is injured, Jed doesn't feel the urge to provide her with his own strength just yet.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Jed appears to be pretty lucky! You've rolled 1's on all d6 you've rolled against him, with the exception of a single 2. And that two missed anyway! Round 4:
Note: I've corrected the HP to account for the crit damage. Both of the most recent attacks against Jed missed (those from the previous post). Attack #1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Jed, though flanked by two tall Shaido, manages to come away unscathed. The first Shaido's attack glances off of Jed's extremely well-made breastplate. The second Shaido's attack comes closer, but Jed manages to masterfully deflect it with his top quality shield. He returns the attacks, cleanly severing the dominant arm of one Shaido. His second attack is less accurate, as the other Shaido deftly attempts to jump out of the way. Unfortunately, time has run out as more Shaido spill into the area around Jed and Jasmine. "Jasmine, we should move! Where are we headed?!" Jed waits for her answer and then starts to fight his way in the direction she indicates. Just a full-round attack this round.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Round 3:
Handle Animal: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Jed fights back against the bodies pressing in on him, but the man who pulled him from his horse has a strong grip. Thankfully, the Shaido suddenly loses grip and Jed barely notices as the man falls to ground, seemingly ripped apart from within. Jed has just enough time to smack his horse on the rump, hoping it'll run to safety, before he is attacked once again. He parries the attack and returns with his own, ending that Shaido's life. "Let's move!" Jed starts to move toward the charred ground left by Jasmine's fire blast, cutting down foes on the way and trusting Jasmine to be right behind him. So Jed's actions are to attack and move. If the handle animal check counts as a move action, he 5 ft. steps. And poor horse is probably gonna die with that roll!
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Round 2
Attack 1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
As Jed pulls his now bloody sword out of the Aiel's stomach, his peripheral vision alerts him to a spear thrust at Jasmine. He is too late to block the attack, and while he is focused on that Aiel, another thrusts a spear his way. Time slows down, and Jed twists his shoulder, trying to maneuver out of the way, but his armor slows him down and spear grazes his neck. The wound isn't deep, but it stings. Jed swings his sword in a wide arc and connects with the Shaido's chest, causing the Aiel to fall backwards, clutching himself in pain and falling unconscious. Jed turns his attention back towards the man who attacked and injured Jasmine. His face contorts rage and he screams a guttural yell at the Shaido, who despite his Aiel heritage, freezes in place in fear. Jed uses this opportunity to end the man's life with a powerful blow to the neck. I know that technically intimidating an opponent is a standard action, but I thought I'd use it for some flavor anyway. Mechanically, it did absolutely nothing, except waste a good roll I suppose. Still, it makes for a more interesting description. Oh, and DM, Jed's HP is 78 total now, since we leveled up before (13 HP/level, 10 from armsman and 3 from CON). So he should be at 76/78 at the moment.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Sorry for the delay! Round 1:
Jed has only one thought in his mind during the carnage of battle. Nothing else matters. He thinks nothing of cutting down the Aiel who attack him, nothing of the blood on his sword, and nothing of lightning and fire raining around him. He has but one purpose. Protect Jasmine! Jasmine and Jed work together as if they have been doing this all their life. As Jasmine weaves, invisible to Jed's eyes, he puts himself between her and the nearest Shaido to attack. It is a constant game, where he must shift his feet to dodge a weapon in such a way that it does not come close to injuring Jasmine. Assuming Jasmine does not change her action:
Attack #1: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22
Jed sees two Shaido coming for Jasmine, their spearheads glinting in the sunlight as they seek to eliminate an Aes Sedai threat. But they have to get through the heavily armored Gaidin first. Jed steps directly in front of the Shaido, his sword flashing. The first Shaido is slashed across the shoulder as he attempts to duck his blow. The gash is deep. Without pausing to see if the Aiel falls to ground unconscious, Jed pulls his sword back and thrusts it deep into the other Shaido's stomach. Only seconds have passed, and more Aiel press in. Mechanics: Jed will 5-foot step each round, to place himself in front of any Aiel threatening Jasmine. He will use a full-round action to make both of his attacks, each on a different Shaido. Jed can make two Attacks of Opportunity each round if they are provoked. Please just take them for me, if you wish, Jonasty.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Jed nods at Jasmine's words as if she knew what he was going to say before she said it. As she spurs her horse ahead, Jed quickly rides to catch up with her. While on the run, he yells across to her, "We must stay close by our companions." He then pulls ahead of her and directs his horse toward Ryland and Fiallain, to fight alongside his friends. Jed pulls out his sword as he rides.
Male Andoran Armsman 6
I really need to step it up with my re-read... I'm only halfway through The Dragon Reborn right now, so I have a ways to go! I barely remember anything in the series! It's especially important, because I've only read up through Knife of Dreams and I don't want to get spoiled on anything in the last three books. I definitely need to find more time for my re-read, haha!
Male Andoran Armsman 6
Jed will, of course, follow Jasmine in order to protect her. His own thought is to ally with those fighting for the Dragon. After all, he doesn't trust the White Tower Aes Sedai and one look at Fiallain should confirm that she does not support the Aiel that are here. Jed looks to Jasmine with concern clearly written on his face. They have spent enough time together for her to know exactly what he would do. Jed would come to the aid of the Dragon Reborn if he were on his own, but he will follow Jasmine no matter what she decides. Also, something to note. Jed wears a red sash on his arm as well, which he has worn in support of Queen Morgase since the unrest in Caemlyn. |
