Never fear, Aubrey, we still love you! Thanks for the opportunity to try out the setting - I'm not familiar with Dark Sun. I didn't get to take Jaryx very far, but I completely understand the concerns that time constraints bring. I know I will see Aubrey around - maybe more than he wants after that initial comment - and hope to see the rest of you. It might have been brief, but it was good. No regrets.

Jaryx' eyes narrow, but he takes no action. Grea: "Grea OK with scout? Jaryx not able to help scout."
Jaryx bristles at the half-elf's attitude toward Grea. Scowling, "You be nice. Maybe you go look yourself. Find own kids."
Jaryx looks around for a shelter from the sun during the watching.
"It spooks Jaryx if things move that shouldn't move."
Jaryx is still on the ground, but is near the base of the tower as the wall-sitters have moved there. He looks at the other half-giant in his animal guise. "Camps always have critters come in, try to steal food. Maybe we be critters this time."
Once he has helped anyone that wants it, Jaryx will try to move along the base of the wall below Grea as she creeps toward the tower.
The half-giant will aid each of the climbers unless they ask him not to, if only by providing a stirrup with his huge hands to give them a step up.
Jaryx will do the same as he did when Grea climbed the wall in the tower.
Jaryx stays close to Grea, as usual.
Jaryx nods and looks around for a place to observe from, unseen. "Which way to bandit tower? Don't want tower to see us, yes?"
The big half-giant relaxes, but keeps his weapon manifested, and turns to leave the room.
A soulbolt manifests in the half-giant's massive right hand and he looks back and forth between the mage and Grea.
"They not come to empty buildings, right?" He frowns, "But maybe something else does." He starts watching their surroundings warily.
Jaryx nods and grins, as if he was never really concerned. He looks around the smart people discussing back and forth, "Up more now?"
Jaryx waits for Grea, ready to catch her if she slips.
Once the woman's weight has left his hands, the big fellow shifts to a position to catch her should the crumbly wall give way.
Jaryx looks up at the window. "Jaryx would lift Grea to look through hole maybe."
Yeah, I won't throw any stones, either, considering what I'm here to share... At risk of telling the same folks the same thing repeatedly, I will share this here, as well. I will be traveling next week, but expect to have access to post in the evenings. A little jaunt to try new cycling trails that have been built on retired railbeds. Primary concern right now is the storms that seem to be a nightly occurrence in that part of the country.
Looking around cautiously, Jaryx offers, "Bad dreams. Tower has bad dreams." He points to the next door. To Grea, he says, "Maybe Jaryx go see what next bad dream is and tell you, you don't have to have bad dream, too."
Jaryx blocks down and away with one meaty hand and manifests his mindbolt, but by the time he can grasp it with the second hand to strike, the apparition is gone. Cautiously looking around the room, he whispers, "Where swordman go?"
Brow furrowed, Jaryx looks around. "Music? Jaryx hear no music."
"Hug the walls... he looks at Jaryx, "meaning, walk closer to the wall than the center." Jaryx just nods and grins in reply. He walks a half-step behind Grea on her side away from the wall in case something comes up in the middle of the room, but he doesn't go wandering into the center per the bossy man's suggestion.
Jaryx offers, "We climb to see bandit camp better, yes?"
"Not dead sorcerer-king. Jaryx saw him right there." He squints like he's trying to focus and make it come back. Shaking his head, he conjures up his soul bolt again. "You smart. If you say was dead sorcerer-king, Jaryx believe you." Sense Motive DC 19:
He doesn't believe Jareen. He's seen crazy people before and prefers to placate them by pretending to agree. Grea: "Old man crazy. Jaryx saw man. Not dead."
As Arakan is casting his spell, Jaryx is 'winding up' to launch his soulbolt, but the image disappears and he lets the soulbolt dissipate. "Who was important man? Why did Jaryx want to hurt him?"
Jaryx maintains the soulbolt, looking for the elusive balcony, and hovering protectively near Grea.
Jaryx looks around for an attacker on a balcony to no avail. He looks very confused, but is relieved to see all three affected recovering. "Jaryx sorry. Not see bad man on balcony."
When the former villagers collapse from some unseen attack, the half-giant Jaryx steps toward them protectively, manifesting a soulbolt as he whips his head around looking for a target. As they recover, he scowls. Grea, Djal: In your head, you hear, "Where is he? Who hurt you? Jaryx will stop him!"
The half-giant brightens as he understands, "OH! Jaryx understands." Then he looks at Djal, then at the half-elf in charge, "Did you tremble? Maybe voice not work anymore? Like old buildings without doors?"
Jaryx frowns, "The voice heard something that made it tremble?"
The half-giant-that-doesn't-look-like-native-fauna stays near Grea, hovering protectively just behind her and looking around for threats. Or anything moving that's not them, really.
Aubrey: With their mental communication, could Grea and Jaryx be aiding one another with the Perception checks? I won't look unless you say it's cool. Have a great trip!
Grea:
Room empty except statues and us. Maybe something in a doorway. Jaryx is attentive because of the group's wariness, but does not appear to be overly concerned about their surroundings.
Jaryx remains near Grea, as usual, peering into the darkness in the dim glow of the staff.
Jaryx scratches his head, "Jaryx can hide, but dead boss always say Jaryx better distraction for important warriors." He crouches down, actually making a passable effort to be less obvious.
Jaryx looks across the plaza. "Not so much sand here. Someone clean it up?"
Jaryx looks around, wide-eyed. Dead or not, this is by far the largest city he has been able to wander around in. His wonder overwhelms the potential for fear, but he notices Grea's tight grip on her spear, so he keeps his tonfa at hand.
Sorry, all. Just when I thought I could afford to be back in the saddle, I realized that I had overlooked a fairly major project for my class and down the rabbit hole I had to go. |
