“Pugwampi?” Jakari muses, walking over to examine the footprints. “It would definitely, ah, save us some time if this, um, Pugwampi had taken Rombard.” “a Butterfly?” he asks, looking around, “where? I thought that, um, all butterflies were, ah, sacred to Desna… is it just some?” Does the word Pugwampi mean anything to Jakari? Are the tracks familiar at all? Knowledge(nature), Knowledge(local) 1d20+5=23, 1d20+2=20 As for the tracking, Survival Take 10+5 = 15

“Ah,” the ranger replies to the priest, nodding in understanding, “I’m no alchemist, so I don’t really know how these, ah, things work… but wouldn’t a potion just run off the blade?” he gives Zastoran a bashful smile, “maybe some, um, gum acacia would help it adhere?” DM Kin wrote:
“Our reason for being here?” Jakari says unsurely, “Well, um, I don’t really know the details. We were told Lady Almah needed our, ah, skills, but the fire has delayed any explanation she might have given…” Chance LOF wrote: After hearing his response, Chance will look around for Jakari and head over to him, but will wait politely while he finishes talking to the old man before saying "We found some tracks by the wagon, would you be interested in looking at them? I think we may want to follow them." Noticing Chance waiting to speak, Jakari looks over to listen to him before turning back to Father Zastoran apologetically, “Sorry father, this might be, ah, important. Maybe we can talk more once whoever started the, um, fire has been dealt with?”

The young Garundi draws back from the shattered vial reflexively, his eyes widening slightly. As the priest speaks though, Jakari composes himself. “Sorry,” he says with an apologetic look, “I don’t know very much about, ah, alchemy. I only know some simple herbal remedies, but I have just arrived with some others… perhaps one of them might be able to help.” He glances down at the remains of the man’s work, “What, um, sort of potion where you trying to make?”

Seeing Faysal bowing, Jakari offers the princess a bow himself, albeit a somewhat less graceful one, “Yes, thank you for your time… princess.” Straightening himself, he glances around the camp to assess the situation. He notices his travelling companions speaking with someone near the remains of Eloais’ caravan, but something on the west side of the camp catches his eye.

Jakari’s expression relaxes as the princess speaks, either due to the information giving him something to focus on, or some soothing quality in her voice. Once Almah is finished he remains in silent contemplation, searching his memories of the stories of his childhood for some mention of the Cyclone or Legacy of Fire. Let’s see if I can use this invisible castle thingy…

At the guard’s mockery, the colour in Jakari’s cheeks deepens further, and a muscle beneath his left eye tightens slightly. If not for Faysal’s reassuring hand, he may have turned and left. Instead, he looks over to the other man and gives him a small, but grateful, smile. “Thank you,” he whispers, “I will try.” Turning towards the princess, a look of concentration is painted across his face, and he speaks deliberately, “I am afraid not yet princess, but we…” he hesitates momentarily, consciously suppressing his uncertain mumbling, “did hear that Eloais was concerned about the latest, ah-” he winces in frustration at his slip, but presses on, “the latest prediction he made for you. Would you mind sharing it with us? It might be…” he catches himself again, “important.”

In general, I’d agree with you… but in this case there’s been over a week of travelling together during which I’d guess some form of introduction would have been made. I’m not saying we know each other well, but my assumption would be that there’s been at least a conversation or two during the trip.

Jakari’s cheeks colour slightly at Faysal’s words, “um, I’ve never been very, ah, good with words… I tend to get a little, um, nervous when I talk to someone I don’t know.” He looks over towards Faysal for a moment before continuing, “I doubt that makes much sense to you, Faysal. You, ah, make it seem so… easy.”

“Ah, alright,” he says nervously, as it becomes apparent the other two are content to let him lead the way. He walks towards Almah’s wagon, glancing back occasionally to ensure the others are still with him. “Ah, excuse me,” he half mumbles to one of the Pactmaster guards as he approaches, “we would like to speak to the, um, princess.”

Jakari returns Hadrah’s nod as she closes the wagon’s flaps. Frowning to himself, he turns to face Gerr and Faysal before speaking quietly, “perhaps we should speak with Lady Almah about the, um, prediction that apparently unsettled Eloais… it might be that somebody was unhappy about it, or unhappy about what it, ah, revealed, and decided to punish the messenger.”

The evidence does seem to point towards Dashki at the moment, but we've not spoken to everyone yet... there's still the old man with the weird green liquid and the Pactmaster guards. I didn't manage to get any pictures of the con (my battery went dead and I didn't pack the charger :$), but there were a couple of people taking pictures with expensive looking cameras who promised me they were going to upload them to the website. As you probably know already, Nic Logue was nowhere to be seen and Richard Pett denies all knowledge of the situation... all I have to say about that, is the curry on Friday night did taste a bit 'gamey'...

Jakari’s eyes widen slightly as Hadrod rushes towards him, but he gives him and his wife a faint smile, “Ah, yes… I would be happy to do what I can to find this, um, Rombard. But my companion Gerr is right when he says that defence should be our first concern,” he shuffles slightly and gives the sorcerer a quick glance, “even if the fire was not a signal, the smoke might attract predators.” After a brief pause, he leans towards Hadrah and Hadrod, “This Eloais, the, ah, fortune teller… do you know if he had made any predictions recently? Read the, um, harrow cards for somebody perhaps?”

I'm back! I had a great time at PaizoCon UK, but I'm a little bit tired at the moment, so I hope you don't mind if I wait until tomorrow before going into the juicy details ;D. Chance LOF wrote:
The Garundi would be a Human ethnicity... They're found pretty much everywhere as they tend to travel a lot before settling down somewhere, but they're originally from the southern reaches of the Garund continent.

When Faysal moved to speak with Garavel, Jakari looked over to listen, but had backed off to a more discreet distance as their voices adopted a private tone. Mulling over what little information he had, he became lost in thought - until Chance broke him from his reverie. “Ah,” he exclaims, a slightly startled expression crossing his face, “yes, I think I might be able to help with that… er, maybe you can take me to speak to the couple?”
Male Garundi Ranger/1
I'll see about taking some pictures then... and maybe a video if you're lucky. I'm sure some pictures will turn up on the PaizoCon UK website. It's going to be a pretty small Con this year, so I don't think there's going to be many activities beyond gaming. What sort of first hand information are you looking for? I'd recommend planning your trip in the summer, otherwise you're likely to get rained on... and even in summer it's not entirely unlikely.

Once the fire is subdued Jakari visibly relaxes, glancing casually around the camp to ensure his aid is no longer required. When the princess approaches however, his demeanour takes on a slightly anxious aspect as he hastily wipes dust and ash from his robes. “Yes, m’lady. Um, I am Jakari… of the Three Fountains,” the pathfinder speaks in response to Almah’s greeting, shuffling from foot to foot nervously, “ah, I am sorry for your loss.” He offers a sympathetic smile before drifting off into a somewhat awkward silence.

Jakari’s eyes widen in concern when he sees the fire, and he seems momentarily distracted as the burning harrow card crashes against Gerr, but he quickly rushes forward upon hearing Almah’s command. Joining the water line he keeps a watchful eye for any further floating motes of flame, ready to douse any additional blazes before they have chance to take hold.

The young Garundi had walked in silence for much of the journey, occasionally offering a hesitant comment to Faysal’s discussions, but for the most part lost in his own thoughts. Now, as the caravan crests the hill, he recalls the words of Venture-Captain Larasso, “This should be a good first assignment for you to sink your teeth into,” she had drawled in her thick accent, “as a native of Katapesh you should be well suited to uncovering the mysteries of Kelmarane… But do be careful of the gnolls, it wouldn’t do for you to be eaten this early in your career.” At his more talkative companion’s words, Jakari draws to a halt subconsciously scanning the horizon for landmarks, his eyes shaded by the wide brimmed hat atop his black haired head. He brings his waterskin carefully to his mouth and takes a few gulps before storing the skin somewhere hidden beneath the billowing beige robes he wears. Wiping his mouth dry, he brushes his hand against the short black growth of hair extending from his lower lip and turns to the group, “this place might not be so barren as it looks,” he begins softly, not holding anyone’s gaze for long, “that the tree grows at all suggests there is some water nearby for at least part of the year.” |
