@Devon - I don't really have a plan set in stone. I'll play the progression by ear. I'd like to do poisons a little. I'll fit myself in wherever.

I'm sorry for your loss. I wish you happier times.

I don't know if this is the right page to do this but, I'm bowing out of this group.Thank you for answering my questions and letting me pay with you guys. Please remove me from the list and enjoy your future games!

I'm very ready to bail on this game. Thank you all for having me.

I might be down. I'm having issues with my current character.

Also, it's good to RP with you. Seems like we're the only ones here.

"I'd imagine whatever menace awaits us will give me no time to prop up a table on which to place the cards. After, maybe?"

As cool as that sounds, I need a level surface and time.

It would be best done through private messages as we are too far into our encounter to stop for a lengthy reading.

I was aware when I made the character. I thought there would be more RP between players during since play-by-posts are notoriously slow. If you want Bart, we could do a reading through PM that had no mechanical benefit. Lol

Yeah. The reading is an involved process. It's sucks because I built the character for this stuff. He might retire if he survives this encounter.

Jac saw everyone else pile out of the cart and he followed suit.

Awesome! I take it no one took up my offer for a Harrow Reading?

Thanks for the update.

Has anyone had contact with Withal's player? Fear the Wild is a little dead.

Are we still doing this?

Jac was satisfied with the recent haul from his readings that day. So satisfied in fact, he thought he'd have a drink to wind down before returning to his room. Upon entry he noticed a familiar face in the crowd. The exotic Human woman from his unfortunate run in with the Demon Cat. The thought made him shutter. That and the remnants of the Chills he was once afflicted with.

He spoke with her candidly, thanking her again for saving his life. They shared a drink and were approached by the bar maiden about the job. When Benlei agreed Jac was eager to know more. He hoped to perhaps return the favor of kindness.

They left beside the two other folks who were picked and introductions were made. A short walk brought them to the Half-Elf who would be their contact. Jac listened closely.

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

"Beasts huh? I'm confident in the other three's combat ability so I guess my job is to provide some foresight. Count me in!"

Jac ascended the cart and pulled his rugged Harrow Deck from it's pouch and laid it upon a simple cloth he carried.

"Anyone care for a spirit reading? I can maybe answer questions about our upcoming trials. It doesn't hurt."

Spell list: Level 1: Cure Light Wounds, Mage Armor. Incorrigible, I have an ability that allows me to cast Augury twice a week if you and I want to talk about what results I come up with. Also, I took some liberties with the background RP. If anyone wants to change up what happened, let me know!

Sorry! I didn't see the notification for new posts!

It's ok. Everything is dangerous for Jac.

Level 2, Yes.

I'm excited.

Is there still room?

My brain be damned! What is wrong with me? I contracted Devil Chills in my last trip to the shops you know. Yeah, that's it!

Profession (Fortune-Teller): 8d20 + 56 ⇒ (19, 7, 12, 17, 14, 5, 15, 20) + 56 = 165

That's a little better.

Profession (Fortune-Teller): 8d6 + 56 ⇒ (3, 3, 5, 4, 2, 5, 2, 2) + 56 = 82/2=41gp.

Sweet! Pocket Change!

Withal, you and I are gonna get along swimmingly.

HP Level 2 Reroll: 1d6 ⇒ 5

HP Level 2: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Well, that certainly didn't show in the cards.

Stylz I would like to put on the main page that my character is offering Harrow Card readings to the other PC's. If no one minds that is. Also, can I make a set of downtime Profession rolls now or do I have to wait?

It was damn fun too! Thanks Contentious! That puts Jac back on the list!

I am super OK with all that. Show me the money! Also, don't be afraid to hit me up for Harrow readings. I need practice and it's another cool RP thing.

We'll wait to see what everyone else wants. I have my eyes on a different item I want to buy so...

I don't know what the cantrip is inside the Orange one so...if no one objects the Purple one would be amazing. I will instantly back down if someone with more room in their budget asks for it.

Withal, I did the math based on our new levels. Out of the 14 PC levels we all encompass I just found the percentage of each person's level out of the total and applied it to the treasure total. I'm curious how you did your math. Did I miss something?

According to our percentage of loot by level, I should get about 2700gp worth of stuff. I'd like the Quick Runner's Shirt and about 1700 in gold and gems. Shalin is on that same track. Benlei and Withal should get about 4200gp worth and Tagatha gets about 5500gp worth. This will obviously vary based on what we all want and the RP. Just my two copper.

"AHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!" The gnome screamed as he sprung back to life. He scanned the room while breathing heavily and surmised that he was alive and well. And back to normal size.

"Thank you friend." He said to Withal then, addressing the rest of the group, "Thank you all in fact. Were you not here, I surely would have been slain. As for the reward, I don't exactly feel entitled to much. All I would ask for is the shirt I'm already wearing and some coin for my trip home. Also, for your troubles, I'd be willing to give Harrow readings to anyone for free."

I'm asking for the Quick Runners Shirt and whatever the group decides for the rest. On the Harrow reading front, you guys can PM me and I would love to give anyone an in-character reading. They're fun, I promise!

Jac breathes heavily from the ground in disgust while unconscious...

Yay! You guys did it! I feel like I did nothing! LOL

Round 3

Jac does the only thing our valiant hero can do at this point...bleed.

Constitution Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

With my -2 HP, that brings me one point closer to death. -3/8.

Readied Action

The creatures gnashing teeth headed straight for Jac and threatened to "Snap" him in half. Fortunatley, he planted his feet and gave the floor board a quick pull, putting it between him and the creature.

If you're counting it as Partial Cover then I get a +4 to AC and still get hit. :( If you count it as Improved Cover, then I get a +8 and I am missed. I'll do my actions for both...

If hit...

Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Jac just isn't able to get the hidden compartments lid opened fast enough, bumping the beast's maw into his body as opposed to away. The bite is deep and burns him on the inside. In addition, the last sensation Jac gets before everything goes dark is a chill up his spine, like that of death.

If missed...

The spring-loaded contraption shoots up toward the monsters face before the impact with the gnome. Jac heard jaws clap together behind the impromptu wall. Heeding the exotic woman's advice, the Witch took flight away from the creature. Stopping 20 "feet" away to put his Fortune hex on Benlei.

Blood to Blood, Hand to Hand,
Luck of Mine at Your Command!

I never got to post my first turn so, before the fiend arrives...

Round 1

The gnome furiously worked out the problems around him in his head, trying to find an easy way out. Then Shalin's call gave him an idea!

"Shalin! Cut the collar away!"

Jac pushed himself into a quick trance and began to speak in an older, more feminine voice that was not his own...

Blood to Blood, Hand to Hand,
Luck of Mine at Your Command!

A strange sensation coursed through his body and an outward force manipulated energies on his behalf. He sent this feeling through the air toward the Tiefling, filling him with clarity, awareness and Fortune.

Shalin has the Fortune Hex on him so his next D20 roll can be rolled twice. Now for when it's my next turn...

Round 2

Screeching from the sudden appearance of the Cat-Fiend was all that Jac could do in the face of the danger. Fortunately, Jac had a plan. He remembered the "floor board". He just hoped his plan would work.

Jac is gonna ready to open the secret floor board again when the thing tries to attack.

Jac turns around to face the now-gigantic cat. Fear washes through his body and almost his trousers, admittedly. A quick shake of his head clears his mind as he prepares for battle...from the back of the group.

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

Contentious is back! Woohoo! I want the Stone of Not Dying if no one is opposed...

Withal is talking about Contentious GM. It's happening over in Going Out of Business

We're getting worried.

I'm still here.

"Tagatha, Benlei, Shalin, Withal and Telorast. What a fine group we make. I have little fear of what lies ahead if we work together. Let's ruin someone's day, shall we?"

The bearded gnome smiled wide as he spoke. He waited until some of the more heavily armored members of the group took point and took a position next to Tagatha. He was prepared to face the terrors that lie in wait...

I'm trying to put together a lvl 3 Encounter to run. The ideas there but very little has been put to paper. I'll keep everyone posted.

What program did you use to make the map GM?

"Well then, it looks like the majority would like to move on. However, I agree with Withal, in that we deserve some sort of restitution. We'll come back." With that said, Jacaranda moved toward the kitchen. No so fast to out-pace the others, seeing as he wasn't going in there by himself.

As he moved, the gnome pulled a card from his pouch and pushed a minor amount of his will into it, hoping to give himself an advantage in a later scenario.

Harrow Suit and Alignment: 1d6 ⇒ 21d10 ⇒ 2

The Cricket card is a bit of a misnomer, for the image on it was that of a Grig in a suit sitting next to a far too large peach. It represented quick action and/or quick wit. Jac figured either of these things would come in handy and happily "banked" his minor boon.

Before too long, he spun on his heel and addressed the group again.

"By the way, I still haven't gotten most of your names. That's fine with me if you'd rather me shout, 'Red Eyes! Look out!' or 'Demonborn, your left flank is exposed!' or 'Cat Man!, He's got a knife!'. If this is what you prefer then so be it."

"Well then, it seems we're not the first to fall prey to this plight. I found a long dead body here!" Jac said as he examined the newly discovered space.

"There also appears to be some items that might be valuable, who knows? So, it's not all bad. Would anyone care to give me a hand?"

After hearing Benlei's advice, Jac responded. "Though I agree with your assessment, my skills are of better use from afar. If we were to come to blows with the creatures, fear not, for I shall assist in any way I can. Is that sufficient Miss? What did you say your name was again?"

Curiosity got the better of him. He HAD to know what was under the floor board. Jac looked around for a latch or catch or button or lever and found none. He sighed, spit on his palms for grip, and heaved open the hidden cache. All while making sure to maximize his lifting efforts, it's not easy living in a world made for larger folk after all.

Taking 20 on a Strength Check if needed, producing a whopping 20.

"They're recoiling! Whew! Thank Desna for small favors." Jac thought to himself. As the others moved closer to the fireplace, the red-haired witch moved toward the loose floor board he had discovered earlier. As he did, he addressed the demon-kin, the catfolk, and the woman.

"For those of you who didn't catch it, I'm Jacaranda Furt. Friends call me Jac and since we're relying on each other here to stay alive, you're my friends." He said this with an honest smile then continued, "Don't mind me, keep an eye on the beasts, I'm just going to check something out over here."

He approached the board and looked for a way to access it by first peeking inside.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Introduced myself, Moved to floor board and peered inside.

The Gnome was becoming alone again. "Don't they see the size of those spiders?! The relative size...or whatever. I might as well help out as best I can."

He approached the human as he walked toward the creatures and said, "Here friend, take this spell and say the word Ill'mesh and the magic will guide your hand." He chanted softly, moving his hands rhythmically and touched the man on his back.

"Name's Jac by the way. I usually introduce myself before laying my hands on another male...Ha! Good luck!"

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Moved to Withal and cast Guidance upon him. Keeping my distance from the fight, maybe 30 "feet" or so?

Jac looked around the room confused, teacup in hand. It was taking a while to process what had happened to him and the others. Finally, he spoke...

"Um...Does anyone else feel different? heh..." He joked hesitantly and set the cup on the ground next to him. "I didn't see this in my last reading. Speaking of!" He thought.

He opened his card pouch and drew a random card for protection.

Harrow Suit and Alignment: 1d6 ⇒ 11d10 ⇒ 7

The card depicted a humongous devil with a beard of tentacles swallowing grown men whole in a lake of fire. He had drawn The Fiend. Fire rose from the card as the gnome chanted. It began to engulf him hungrily. Once "consumed" a moment later, the fire vanished, leaving behind and almost imperceptible armor in it's place. "Hopefully this will ward off any nasty surprises, other than the shrinking of course..." He hoped.

After his casting, Jac wandered toward the "huge" human, his animal and the exotic woman. Optimistic as he was, he vehemently believed in the strength of numbers. Keeping a wary eye out never hurt anyone either.

Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

Equipped shirt, cast Mage Armor while drawing card and made perception check.

The fat orange cat bounded off of the Gnome after a clatter of some sort. Jac may have squeaked as a result, or maybe it was a floor board? He brushed himself off and put the shirt on over his outfit for the time being. He had to tuck a few inches into he belt but, otherwise it fit him nicely.

"I like it. I may have to have it adjusted but, it's quite nice."

He also figured a burst of speed could come in handy for the race...

The teacup loomed above his head and he grasped for it. The warm cup felt good in his hands and he took a draw from it after a blow or two to cool it off.

"The tea is very good. Thank you. You are a fine host Mister...?"

Jac left the question to hang in the air.
