Hello, hoping you can help me!

I purchased a gift pdf but accidentally sent it to the wrong person. Is it possible to get this fixed? Silly mistake on my part.

Order: #3738903
Gift: The Onmyoji: A Japanese Occult Diviner
Sent to: 137Ben
Meant to be sent to: Zwordsman

137Ben even already owns it on a different venue so some help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Just double checked and never received an authorization email. Could you take a look into it please?

*edit* Just looked at page a bit closer, says it is waiting for July to ship, though I was sure I subscribed in time for the order to spawn before realizing I mistakenly selected Occult Adventures instead of Unchained as where to start the subscription again...is there any way to save this and get Unchained as part of the subscription or am I out of luck? Really was looking forward to unchained and getting a pdf and book together.

The Crafting System

Requesting feedback, comments, and ideas on the crafting system I'm working on for my homebrew world. It's currently still in pretty rough shape, but the majority of the idea is outlined at least. While it seems perfectly clear to me, I very much acknowledge what makes sense in my head did not necessarily make sense when put to ye olde google doc. Especially since my brain is slightly addled due to night shifts.

The intent is for a heavily customizable crafting system more reliant on the materials, augments, and facilities than gold pieces and time.

Note: We don't use regular enhancement bonuses on items (+1 sword/armor/etc), instead tying that into heroic distinctions. If I was going to I'd be combining that into the material grade and lower the augments available.

Without going on too much, I would be happy to hear some thoughts, suggestions, or ideas. Especially stuff I've overlooked or might be missing would be hugely appreciated.

In-character campaign journal for my current campaign. It's not my world nor am I the DM for this one so most of this is what I'm learning as we play. Some basic terminology here:

Terra - Name of the homebrew world. Based off Golarion, many of the gods for instance will be familiar to anyone that knows Golarion. Countries, NPCs, and history are quite different on the other hand.

Seiya Zei - Country party is currently traveling in. Eastern influences and based off clans in Legend of the Five Rings. Campaign starts in Dragon Clan lands and of this post is still in that area. Ruled by Empress Pandora, a god walking the land in mortal form, beloved by the great majority of the land. It is worth noting that Seiya Zei also deals harshly with those that intrude on their lands and do not allow outsiders to visit it.

Party:

Arashi Minoko - Traveling swordsman, drunkard, and wanna-be hero. He's the writer of this journal and the character I play. He lost his grandfather at a young age and refused the monastery's strict teachings, leading to running away as a young teenager to adventure and follow in his grandfather's footsteps.

Aiko Minoko - Arashi's younger sister. She was raised in a Shizuru monastery and is touched by the Kami of the land. She's blessed and capable of healing magic and conversing with the spirits. Kind and serene, but with a mischievous streak.

Keisuke Tanamura - An outsider of Seiya Zei, though born there originally. At a young age ended up in a place called Irrisfal where he was raised. Circumstances lead to him traveling back to Seiya Zei He has a sharp mind and is capable of potent arcane magic.

Baoji - Traveling mountain priest raised in a temple. Lost his family and now works at the behest of his master to seek out numerous relics before evil forces get their hands on them. He is a powerful combatant and capable of potent spells to augment himself in combat. Bit of a drunk like Arashi.

Comments and suggestions welcome!

This might be in the wrong area, if so please feel free to flag and move it somewhere more fitting. My quick look didn't turn up a better spot.

My question is regarding keeping a copy of my character's campaign journal online. I haven't done something quite like this before and wondered if anyone could recommend a free blog or hosting site? Really not even sure where to begin. Thus far I've simply been keeping it in a word doc and would like something easier to find online when the other players in the group (and perhaps others) would like to read it.

Somewhere with a decent selection of fonts and perhaps a template to make it look like pages of an actual worn journal would be about perfect. I'm not very artfully gifted myself sadly. Any ideas?

Appreciate the help!

Brighthaven is recruiting independent neutral and good-aligned companies to take, hold and defend Towers during Early Enrollment! We seek independent companies who are interested in staking a claim in PFO during EE. During EE, you will be sponsored by Brighthaven, allowing you to take, hold, and develop a Tower hex as well as take advantage of the exceptional martial (and other) training that Brighthaven will offer. You will have no restrictions placed upon you by Brighthaven other than these simple three: 1) you must be a neutral or good aligned company; 2) you must take, hold and defend (during Brighthaven's open PvP window) a Tower under the banner of Brighthaven (this will necessitate PvP), and 3) you must not take aggressive or subversive actions against Brighthaven, our members, or our allies during EE.

As detailed in the most recent Gobbocast, Episode 16: Low Place Like Home, being an unsponsored company during WotT will have little to no benefits, and unsponsored companies, even if capable of taking and holding a Tower, will be subject to a 24-hour open PvP window with essentially no benefit at the end of WotT. We know that some small independent companies don't want to be tied up or bogged down by settlement politics, but will still wish to advance their character's training beyond that available in NPC towns during EE and may wish to gain the benefit of a shortened Tower PvP window vs. going it alone. Because of this, Brighthaven is extending this opportunity to independent companies as a mutually beneficial and non-binding arrangement for both parties during EE.

Join Brighthaven during EE, reduce your open PvP window, gain experience operating a POI in PFO, and reap the benefits of the exceptional training opportunities offered by an advanced settlement! Should you decide to leave Brighthaven after EE (we hope that you won't, but if you do), you will be free to forge a new beginning for yourself anywhere you choose, no strings attached!

Join Brighthaven for WotT during EE and build your future in PFO!

Could use some help on this one. Did some forum searching and found this:

Captain Zoom wrote:
A Minor Artifact can be broken, but not destroyed (through normal means). A Major Artifact is immune to hit point damage and can't gain the broken condition.

Is this correct? Can anyone point me to where in the rules it says this? I've been searching hard for the answer to this due to it making a difference on a prestige class I'm writing up and couldn't find anything on the srd or in my books thus far (though I might be overlooking it). All I've managed to turn up is regards to destroying an artifact, not whether it can actually gain the broken condition or not.

Thanks for any help!

Since Interjection Games have been such a great sport and generous with the free expansion for the Edgewalker, figured I would get in the spirit myself and take a page for Mikaze's book.

The first 10 posters here will score a free copy of the Edgewalker class on DriveThruRPG.com. Make sure you have an account on the site else I can't give you the gift (and if you don't want to post your email to the account here, feel free to PM it to me). Note: The Paizo digital gifting is having some difficulties or I would be using it instead.

Merry Mikazemas to everyone! :D

PS: Expect them sent out Wednesday or Thursday.

Hello and sorry to bother everyone. Know it has been hectic with the holidays and everything.

Could you please check into the above order though? It shipped on Dec 14th and I have yet to see any sign of it. I don't mind waiting a bit longer if it will help either, just figured since I got the email that the next one was shipping I should inquire on this one as well.

Hey everyone. I'm working on a small campaign (probably levels 4 to about 7ish) to test a set of extensive house-rules and and a home-brew setting I'm working on and looking for inspiration and some ideas.

The basic gist the party is either part of or working for a large magical technology empire (directly involved with of or hired mercenaries). Thinking along the lines of the Empire in Final Fantasy 6 or even the Rune Factory games would be very close (and both are ending up being one of my main inspirations thus far) though I'm looking to expand that. Anything to give ideas or inspire would be excellent whether novels, other campaign settings (3rd party is fine), or whatever. I don't mind dropping some cash on quality work (though previews would be hugely appreciated too).

As mentioned, there are a few aims here, mostly to give the house-rules I'm using a test run and also to establish one of the major powers and countries in the world. The main campaign later will be taking part in another part and likely the 'Empire' (still working on the name) will end up becoming a major antagonist. Also their characters (with their permission of course) may end up showing up against them at a later time.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Pathfinder LO Special Edition Subscriber

I DM a group of four to six players on a weekly basis. Last week a player missed a session due to vacation (which is perfectly fine, of course) and is a bit irritated this week when due to missing out on a reward from an NPC.

For a bit more information, I hand out experience to all characters equally whether they are there at a session or not so everyone is at the same level constantly (the character in question did level up from the last session like everyone else, despite not being there). When people miss sessions, what they do miss out on is possible hero points (awarded for roleplay and heroic actions) and shares of loot and items. They were made aware of this when the campaign started.

The reward in question is a boon granted by a fairly influential NPC in the city as the party played a huge part in wiping out an infernal cult in the last session (basically organizing several groups and leading a crusade against their base). Each character involved was to be granted a single request from the NPC which he would fulfill if he was capable.

The character in question is probably one of the better geared members of the party and likely a little ahead of the WBL table on a guess if that makes any difference. The cult in question was not tied very much to his character and was a plotline mostly centered around the party's inquisitor. Long story short he didn't have much involvement in it at all even before the session in question.

In any case, I personally was under the impression this was more than fair considering some groups I have been in, but I'd like to hear other opinions on it. Missing one week of possible boon/loot/items I don't think would make a huge difference (and the party is very good about making sure everyone is equipped as they can be overall).

So am I being unfair or is he perhaps being a bit greedy (or somewhere between the two extremes)?

Anyone seen any relevant information on this? I had some ideas for the campaign I'm running but I've had next to no luck finding much information on Merfolk at all. Looking for some input on who your average neutral or good Merfolk settlement would likely worship.

Hello.

I really hate to open these threads (especially since the last time it literally arrived the day after I did), but I still have not seen any sign of my order 2288921 which shipped Jan 23rd. It was the Thornkeep print edition through the kickstarter if that makes any difference.

Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Just a thought (and I readily admit to not having thought it through completely yet), but what if players could, instead of just training at various training halls, also teach other players to earn feats and so on? Not sure what form this would take or how it would work exactly, but likely it would also be limited in number they could train in so much time (and of course carry the fee the teaching player charges).

It would grant opportunity in the case of settlements that already have limited training available and encourage player interaction. Potentially it could be limited by requiring a feat itself (likely under aristocrat that shows you have learned to instruct others perhaps).

The issue that immediately crops up to me at least would be that players could access training from settlements they might not generally be able to. Otherwise I do see a lot of potential in the idea and am very curious what others think.

Goblin Squad Member

See title (also includes bards to a degree, though they have music too). After reading most of the blogs to date, I found that the vast majority of the systems explained (especially related to arcane magic) were directed toward the wizard class in particular. There is this:

Quote:
Sorcerers—masters of blood magic. Scions of innately magical bloodlines, the chosen of deities, the spawn of monsters, pawns of fate and destiny, or simply flukes of fickle magic, these characters look within themselves for arcane prowess and draw forth might few mortals can imagine.

Which sounds awesome. Most of the other parts directly acknowledge the wizard class or 'spell-books' in particular such as below:

Quote:

Refresh Slots

Most combat abilities that are not tied to weapons are Refresh abilities, and they're placed in slots 7–10. These are things like spells, rage abilities, etc. If a character has a spellbook equipped, it can go into one of these slots; activating the spellbook turns all weapon slots into spell slots determined by the spellbook. Wizards will have to find and equip different spellbooks to get access to different spells, with some books being more valuable or rare than others.

Quote:

Weapon Slots

The first six slots on the action bar are weapon slots, tied directly to the weapon (or weapons if dual-wielding) you have equipped. (In this context, the term "weapon" includes staves, wands, holy symbols, and other magical implements.)

It leaves me wondering where a sorcerer fits in. What is their mechanic in PFO? Are they to be as reliant as staves and wands as a wizard is or does their innate magic let them get by in most cases? How much of a mirror will they be to wizards and their mechanics?

Some thoughts I had on the matter:
- To mirror their abilities in pen and paper they might get more (maybe faster) refreshes. They can't swap out their spells easily, but this allows them to cast them more often and prepare more quickly.
- They could use spell-books (as mentioned above) as scrolls. This would allow a sorcerer to quickly swap out the spells on their quickbars but they are essentially burning the spells off the spell-book each for a single use effect. Costly, but lets them have a little bit of flexibility. Perhaps give them one slot for this, the other three dedicated to their innately known spells?

Would love to hear thoughts and ideas on this (especially from Goblinworks if they could). Sorcerers are by far my favorite class in terms of flavor and would really like to see them represented well as they can in the game.

Thanks for your time!

Hello.

I have yet to see any sign of this order. No updates for a long while now. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Goblin Squad Member

The title isn't clear as I wanted it to be and I apologize. Couldn't think of a better way to put it. Hoping I can explain well enough to make up for it.

In essence my question is how Pathfinder Online will handle area of effect spells and your allies (or if you are in a party). Example: I'm playing a sorcerer and I throw a fireball toward a fighter I'm partying with and three orcs. How is the fighter affected (or is he at all)? What about a fighter you weren't partied with/wasn't your ally (we'll say a neutral other character you are not at odds with).

Same idea for a spell like Mass X (Cure, Buff spells, etc). How will the system choose which characters do or don't get affected?

There are a lot of different ways this can be handled and I can see points for both sides honestly. I do not believe this has been addressed by Goblinworks (and if it has, please link me...I've read through most of the blogs now). I'm curious how they'll be approaching this and am wondering about other people's thoughts on the subject.

Thanks for your time!

No idea if anyone else on here is a fan of Robert Moran and his Unforgotten Realms series, but since this wasn't posted I had to. Have a lot of nostalgia for the the original series and really want to see this come to be. Looks like a blast (plus looking like it will include a level editor which always makes it easy to get your money worth). Definitely recommend taking a look if you like humor and rpgs!

As the title says I'm planning a new campaign and want some feedback on the house rules and help. Advice on other house rules to include is more than welcome too. Spoilers below are to avoid huge walls of text and organize it some.

Note: A lot of these house rules may look familiar as they many are not originally my idea and have come from the brilliant minds of the people posting in other house rule threads on here. Thanks to you folks!

Campaign and Houserule Intentions::
A campaign more heavily based on the character's abilities rather than the bonuses of (boring/mundane) magical items. While there definitely will be magical items, they should to be somewhat rare, wondrous, and awe-inspiring than a simple +1 to AC or +2 to a Stat.

Campaign Overview::

The party are heroes of divine influence (a deity ancestor, family was blessed/cursed in some way, or other...be creative) introduced to a new world. Their reasons for arriving vary greatly (accident, sent as explorer, banished...again be creative), but they have come together to survive and thrive in an unknown world while trying to achieve their own goals. This new world is unique in that if there are gods, they are not active with the people living in fear. Cults and similar things do exist and some may even draw power from a particularly powerful relic or similar but deities themselves are non-existent.

It is my intention for their tale to be told in chapters with a feeling of legends and epics (think Hercules, Gilgamesh, and similar legendary heroes). The other point of this is for a number of the group to take turns DMing the story (with at least one other GM). Each chapter will be a single tale of one of their exploits in this new world which need not take place in the same location. The world itself is meant to be unknown and open for creativity-sake and so each DM can run their story without stepping on another's toes. The outright rules of the world will be decided by those that will be DMing before we begin. Ideally every chapter will gain the party one level which gives us 20 different stories to tell or so (plus what occurs once they hit 20).

I plan to run the campaign using a combination of play by posting on the Paizo forum and meeting around once every week or two on Roll20 to handle combats and other encounters. The play by postings can also be used to fill in the time between chapters and what characters do during that free time.

Character Creation::

- Stat Generation: Still deciding on this...know it should be fairly high to help with the lack of items. Would really prefer characters only have one 'dump' stat too though.
- Races: Any including custom (with GM approval). Characters should be able to come from any fantasy world or pantheon of deities due to the story (again, with GM approval). Races should be fair to all the other players playing too (if you want to be a half dragon we either tone you down or tone up the other characters to the approximate same strength).
- Classes: I'd like to avoid gunslinger, summoners, and ninjas (first doesn't fit the fantasy feel I'm after, second tends to slow down combat too much, ninjas have been combined with rogue into one class...see below). Most others should be fine (if you have any 3rd party ones you'd like to try let me know and I'll take a look).
- No prestige classes, characters will be created using the gestalt rules (but one class must be one of the 'godling' classes from SGG).
- Skills: May give extra skill points or a single maxed knowledge based on background for free. Still deciding on this.
- Free Feats: Agile Manoeuvres, Weapon Finesse, Heighten Spell, 2 Wpn Fighting Chain (if character qualifies with Dex Mod and BAB which includes: Two Weapon Fighting, Improved Two Weapon Fighting, Greater Two Weapon Fighting)
- Banned Feats: Leadership (5-6 players with potential pets is enough for me to deal with in a given combat...though I may allow one party controlled NPC to join), Antagonize (even with revisions I'm a little leery of this one)
- One feat every level (outside feats gained as bonus by classes)
- Max HP gained every level
-Alignment: No evil characters please. It is meant to be a heroic campaign and your characters should be inclined or have reason to help others.
-Traits: You'll be given two traits based on your character and their background information you provide.

- Mythic Rules will be used but will be subject to heavy scrutiny and are likely to change from their current form as they are still in testing as well.

Class Changes::

Rogue/Ninja:
I had the entire table in here but essentially it is as the Rogue table with these changes:
1 - Select Trapfinding or Poison Use (as Ninja)
2 - Gain 'Cunning' (See below)
3 - Select Trap Sense or No Trace (as Ninja, these advance as usual once selected)
6 - Gain Light Steps (per Ninja)
20 - Gain Master Strike or Hidden Master (as Ninja)

Whenever a rogue selects a "Rogue Talent" he can instead select a Ninja Trick (and Master Tricks after 10th level).

Proficiencies: Same as Rogue (if fitting character, you may get others as a trait).

CUNNING:
Instead of a ki pool, the rogue gets a pool of "cunning." This ability is entirely Ex and uses either Int or Cha (chosen at first level of rogue and cannot be changed). It can be used to the following effects:
— Cheap Shot: By expending one use of his cunning, a rogue can make one additional attack at his highest attack bonus, but he can do so only when making a full attack. Using this ability is a swift action.
— Unfair Combatant: By expending one use of his cunning, a rogue can make a dirty trick or steal combat maneuver against any target he has dealt sneak attack damage to this turn, using his rogue level in place of his base attack bonus. This does not provoke an attack of opportunity. Using this ability is a free action.
— Slip through Shadow: By spending one use of his cunning, a rogue can gain a +4 insight bonus to Stealth for 1 round. This is a swift action.

Caster Changes:
- Spontaneous casters gain one additional spell known and spell cast-able per day than their charts state.
- All other casters gain one additional spell cast-able per day than their charts state.

House Rules::

- Hero Point System will be used with some tweaks (gained only from heroic actions, achieving goals, and storyline)
- 'Items Slot System': Planning to have somewhat limited items slots. Characters can only wear the following - Weapon, Shield/Offhand Weapon, Armor/Clothing, Helmet/Hat/Hood, Accessory (...maybe 2 accessories, still deciding. Accessories include boots, gloves, misc items. Additionally, all items would be more powerful as a side result since you are more limited in the number you can wear ie. A protection ring may grant bonuses to natural and deflection AC)
- Masterwork items can be more powerful than a simple +1 to attack. Example: An exceptionally crafted blade could be incredibly balanced and deadly (+3 enhancement, but does not count as magical) and also incredibly sharp (keen, also not inherently magical). Obviously some abilities can't be added to weapons like this (Ex. Flaming) since they come from an entirely magical source.
- Auto 20s: Whenever a 20 is rolled for an attack it is considered automatically a hit and critical (no confirmation required). For any other roll that threatens (a 19 on a Longsword for instance) a critical, a confirmation must be rolled to confirm
- No Massive Damage: Self explanatory
-Roll initiative using a d12: Gives Imp Init and all other init-based abilities a little more oomph.
- Every one that shows up to the game on time gets one re-roll during the game.

Other House Rules I'm Still Considering::

- Alignments: Still not sure how to handle these entirely. I'd like to do away with them but don't want to horribly impact Paladin or similar abilities.
- Deadly Aim: Gives -1/+3 to all crossbows except hand crossbows
- Acrobatics: Allows someone with at least 1 rank in the skill to attempt to leap to their feet as a swift action (DC 15), although this still provokes attacks of opportunity. Normally standing up is a move action that provokes attacks of opportunity.
- Breath of Life: Renamed Cure Deadly Wounds so that it can be considered one of the "cure" spell line. Normally this spell does not allow any of the abilities that apply to "cure" spells to apply.
- Spell Rarity: Basically, not all spells are equally well-known. Spells from the CRB are "common," and can be freely chosen. Spells from any other Paizo published source are "rare," meaning that they cannot be automatically picked: a PC needs to either encounter a rare spell first-hand, or create it by independent spell research.
- Roleplay to Re-Spec: Any permanent character decisions, including feats, level/class selection, skill apportionment, etc. can by changed at any time. The character must express frustration with the choice in-game (or via email if appropriate) and resolve to try a different approach. The change may include some in-game actions, such as seeking out a new weapon to use.
- Reduced Attacks Per Round: Reduces the number of attacks with BAB but ups the attack bonuses
I.E.
At BAB +6 you get 2 attacks at +4 BAB each
At BAB +11 you get 2 attacks at +10 BAB each
At BAB +16 you get 2 attacks at +16 BAB each.
- Spell-Point System: I'd like to use SGG's spellpoint system, though I'm rather hesitant to add more complexity with everything else honestly.

Hello.

Haven't had these sorts of issues before so please be patient with me. I was attempting to purchase a pdf yesterday (and today) a few different times and each time the payment comes up as declined. I have not ever had this issue before with this card and have made numerous other purchases with it and had it for over 2+ years.

Upon checking my banking information I find that there are (a couple now) parts where it says:
Hold Card - Purchase PreAuth 25-Nov-2012 $3.99

Which is the amount of the pdf I was trying to purchase.

I have already sent an email to their (the bank) technical support, but I have to admit I'm confused and not sure what I need to do to fix it (on the Paizo site as well). I don't want to be charged multiple times if I can help it. There are currently two of the 'hold card' things but I tried to do the purchase numerous more times than that so I'm concerned.

Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks

Alex

A pen & paper RPG that blends the best parts of fantasy & sci-fi into a world that is exciting, fresh, and yet strikingly familiar.

Did a quick search and didn't see a thread for this one. Looks intriguing and thought the RPG aficionados here might want to get behind it! It only has about 8 days left and needs another chunk of funding but definitely appears to have some potential!

It reminds me of Arcanum (loved that game so much) since you have an awesome blend of technology and magic including the varied races and a very open ended character creation system.

Definitely recommend taking a read at least!

Pathfinder LO Special Edition Subscriber

So if it wasn't obvious, there will be spoilers for this module contained within. You have been warned!

The idea of the thread is to get feedback and ideas from others that worked on it or have run it. I have an...interesting group so especially as we have been getting further in there have been points where I've thought, "uh oh".

Party Makeup:
The party consists of the following:
NG Summoner -> Winged Horse Eidolon, good with supporting spells and the eidolon is pretty nasty in combat
LN Monk -> Fights mostly with his fists, decent party tank with high saves and AC
LN Alchemist -> Mutagen User with a greatsword and the occasional bomb, if you think of Geralt in the Witcher he is pretty close to that
LG Cleric -> Healing/Charm domains, his amount of healing can be pretty obscene even with Kaidan's reduced healing abilities
(Another character will be joining them shortly, we just recruited someone new...likely a mage of sorts)

Overall they are pretty heroic and good aligned, just with some quirks. The cleric is especially good at following through with hints I drop and has managed to put to rest both the Ryokan and the children at the well so far.

Summary So Far:
So to summarize, the party has been in the module for awhile. They have for the most part actually kept the majority of their party alive (minus one porter lost to Stonefang on the first night). The following night with Stonefang they trapped him ratherly cleverly with a combination of caltrops, snares, and bait.

Additionally, they have "recruited" some others. Namely Migita (the first bandit leader), who instead of killing or handing over for the bounty, one character took him on as a sort of retainer and servant(either join us or get killed...easy choice for him). They also have two other bandits they have captured and will be turning over to the authorities. Additionally, two bear cubs the summoner is attempting to use Handle Animal to raise (a randomly rolled encounter I tossed in for fun) that the Cleric has named 'Lickey' and 'Bitey' as one has taken to it far better than the other.

They are currently on the road to Tsue-jo and about to encounter Jadoko. They have been looking forward to this for a long time now as I've been dropping hints about her involvement all along and I'm hoping it will be a good fight.

Where I Need Advice!:
Alright, the actual questions now...

The first is regarding the first fight with Jadoko. If anyone has run this, how tough is the fight? I'm considering adding a second of "Jirok" the oni to help her out. Would this be overkill? The party does have slightly above average for loot and they handle most fights they are ready for without too many issues. I do want it to be challenging and satisfying though since they've been ticked at her since the Kika incident and it's only got worse since they found out she is attacking them with bandits and the incident at the bridge.

The second part is regarding when they present the spearhead in the second module. The monk has already mentioned to me and the rest of the party that he thinks they should not give the spear to Lord Hachiwara. I suspect he may try something during that scene, like picking a fight or trying to run with the spearhead. If something like this occurs, anyone have tips or ideas how it would be handled? I will have Marl trying to dissuade him from this considering it is his daughter on the line, of course, but more ideas would be welcome.

Hello.

I've had a situation coming up in my recent games that is showing my lack of knowledge in a specific area. Long story short, my players have come to favor a tactic to stare at just about anyone they meet with detect magic (in case of illusion magic present upon them). I'll admit they have had some issues with this in the past and it makes sense they would start to get a bit paranoid.

However, it seems strange to me that a simple cantrip should be able to trip up a lot of these abilities. Several of the monsters in question are of the Oni subtype meaning they receive their shape-changing as supernatural abilities.

So finally here is my question, in what cases would detect magic register this? My guess was after some reading that supernatural and extraordinary wouldn't, but spell-like and when the spell is cast on them it would. Is this the correct interpretation? I don't want to screw anyone over but having them insta-scan everyone they meet is making me a bit leery.

Thanks for any help!

Bonus Questions: Does detect magic detect invisibility spells? Or only if the person remains standing in the same spot for the whole three rounds? Is there an 'after image' of the magic still there even if the person moves away?

Hey everyone.

My brother has shown some interest in DMing a campaign and I'd like to get him started on the right foot. He has some pretty solid knowledge of the game and mechanics by this point (due to this I was leaning away from the Beginner Box as he and all the potential players are quite experienced) and while he was considering doing his own from scratch campaign, I encouraged him to try starting with something already established and customize from there.

Anyway, I could really use some sugestions on which modules or adventure paths would be good for a newbie that is just learning the DM ropes. I know Paizo itself has tons and the 3PP also have some quality stuff out there. I suspect keeping it simple would be best with a starting level between 1 and 3 probably. He is a creative guy so something that he can play with or adjust would also be nice, but not perfectly essential.

Thanks to those that reply!

Hey. Have you standup fellows over at Rite Publishing considered bundling some of your 101 series together? Like the 101 X level spells, the feat books, or the item properties perhaps?

Very interested customer must inquire! Either way I'll be buying them all (my players are absolutely in love with some of the new weapon/armor properties they've found in the campaign so far).

Anyway, wanted to say you do great work and to keep it up!

Will try keep this somewhat brief. Long story short, I'm DMing an epic level group of characters in a 3.5 campaign. Due to some twists I didn't see coming one of the characters has made it their current goal to obtain an Elixir of Life to gain back some years they lost due to plot stuff.

They have a contact with a very powerful mage and alchemist that reasonably would have an idea of the recipe. Rather than just make it for them I figured this would be a good spot for another bit of questing and plotline, so what I'm looking for is basically suggestions for the weird stuff they have to gather to make this potion.

Looking for things that would lead to roleplay/interesting situations more than just being really hard to get or murdering said creature, though appreciate whatever you fine folks come up with. Really obscure stuff could be fun too.

Misc Info: They are a predominantly neutral party with some tendencies toward good. It is planar oriented campaign though largely based in Forgotten Realms. Due to the nature of the campaign, they have visited Eberron, Rokugan, Sigil, and just about any place like that is possible for them to visit again.

Thanks very much for taking the time to look this over! I'll answer whatever questions I can.

Something I'm curious on. I've been scouring the wiki and books I have on the subject and couldn't find a clear answer for this. Do all members of the Pathfinder Society faction take levels in a Pathfinder Prestige Class (Ex. Pathfinder Chronicler)?

Curious for a character background I was planning. I was leaning toward no, you can still advance in whatever class you have as long as you can write the reports and similar but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something.

Thanks!

So I am starting my homebrew Pathfinder campaign in probably a month give or take. I have most of it worked out in terms of setting, loot, and storyline at this point. Most of the monster encounters and similar have been worked out too...though I'm fully expecting them to completely circumvent my plans somehow eventually. Will roll with it when that comes around in any case.

Where I'm having some issues is building their rival 'party' (using that term loosely). This is going to be the group that occasionally beats them to the punch, gets in their way, or ends up chasing the same goals. I see them very mercenary, some bordering on completely uncaring and evil behavior.

So next I suppose would be the party my players will be using:
- Gunslinger - 2 Hander Sniper. Sort of a quasi engineer, brother of the Inquisitor. Very intellectual in nature.
- Inquisitor - 2 Hander with a Greatsword. Hunter of Heretics for his Church. Loves lighting them up. The two are sort of black sheep in their noble family.
- Paladin - 1 Hander with Shield (I think). I have the least info on this character right now.

Obviously not exactly ideal but they are meshing their stories together and I wanted them to play what they wanted. All three tend to build viable characters, though not completely minmaxed. I'll be toning down most encounters to try challenge but not brutalize them and likely be fairly generous with potions.

What I'm thinking for the rival party (willing to take suggestions here!) is this:
- Roguish Gunslinger (Very cocky in nature. I'm imagining him likely with some rogue or shadowdancer sorts of levels). Charismatic leader of the group. Honestly not sure Gunslinger is the best idea here but in the background he is a childhood rival of the PC Gunslinger above.
- Alchemist - Loves the mutagens and bombs. Very disconcerting in appearance likely with an extra arm or similar. Possibly a bit insane (I imagine a bit of Kefka in this guy).
- Summoner - Tricky sort. Sends in the Eidolon generally and supports with pits and similar. Uses summons/eidolon to cover escape when needed. Generally quiet and unassuming, in the background of the three.

Thoughts? Would these be a good match or would you recommend another class? The only one really set is the first fellow, the other two are openish.

So some help on building them would be hugely helpful as I'm not very good at that yet. Also as they are meant to be recurring villains/rivals keeping in mind ways for them to escape would be very helpful.

Misc info: I imagine them running into the rivals around 3 to 4 times throughout the campaign. The campaign itself is starting at level 5 and probably going up to a max of 15 (more likely 13 or so). They are likely to see these guys around level 6, 9, and 12. Every couple levels. Using a fast exp progression.

Thanks! Appreciate any help I can get.

As I mentioned in the other Sask. thread, due to some unforseen circumstances there is a very strong chance I'll be moving to Regina come Jan or Feb of 2012.

So I wanted to reach out and test the water a bit. Any gamers or groups in the area on these boards?

I can play or DM, I have some decent experience in each, though most of it is in the 3.0/3.5 ed. of D&D and I am still learning all the changes to the Pathfinder rules. Besides that, I've played Shadowrun and D&D 4th Ed some and wouldn't mind either though Pathfinder is my personal preference now and what holds my interest the most.

Hope to hear from some of you and thanks for reading!
