BACKGROUND Personality:
Ithimal has always been curious. Curious about the world, about people, and about how things work. This curiosity is what led him to being an alchemist in the end, but it is always the cause of much of the trouble he has gotten into over the years.
Ithimal is loyal to his friends, and those he sees as family. Being an orphan, or worse, abandoned, has led to a world view that family is those he chooses to be in his life and friends do come naturally to him. At least those that can see past his more monstrous appearance. Anyone who threatens his family though immediately goes on his “kind list”, a reference to his view of orc-kind. Not everything is rosy in Ithimal’s view though. He feel a dark voice call to him from somewhere deep in his mind. He has only ever confided in his adopted sister, Shalelu, and he feels shame whenever he thinks about it. Backstory:
The young half-orc was found wandering the shore of the Storval Deep, north of Fort Rannick. The rangers of the Black Arrows took the boy in, returning him to Fort Rannick but never truly knowing if the boy was orphaned or abandoned. It was clear he was of orc and Shoanti heritage, but he was barely old enough to speak. The only thing he would say was Ithimal, so that is what the ranger took as his name.
Ithimal was to young to begin training with the ranger of Fort Rannick, but he exhibited a natural curiosity that would eventually lead him to trouble, so the rangers sent him to the kitchens to keep him occupied. As a cook, the young half-orc was a quick study, it was as if he understood how the various foods would take to heat, or spices. It was like an art form for the boy. It would have likely been his destiny to spend the rest of his life in that kitchen if the nearby ogres hadn’t sacked the fort in the return of Runelord Karzoug’s power. All seemed lost to the rangers, and they certainly never thought their half-orc cook would survive the assault, but salvation arrived in the form of an elven ranger and her companions. This elf ranger rescued the rangers, including her step-father Jakardros, and together they ended the siege in one night. Ithimal had watched the elf ranger, Shalelu, as she fell the orges and he felt inspired to learn what he could from her. After the siege of Fort Rannick was broken, Shalelu stayed on to aid Jakardros in rebuilding things, while her companions headed off to fight more. Shalelu was impressed with Ithimal’s survival through the siege and with agreement from Jakardros, the young half-orc was to begin training in becoming a ranger of the Black Arrows. Over the next few months, Ithimal learned to fight with the sword and to walk the woods and observe things. Shalelu taught him about the woods as well. Soon though Shalelu’s companions returned to the fort victorious. They knew they had to head further north after some giants, and Shalelu was to head out with them. One companion caught the attention of the curious half-orc though, a man named Rade, an alchemist by trade. Ithimal talked with him as often as he could, asking after the various chemicals he used in his work, and Rade found that the young man was more than able to understand the necessary details to become an alchemist. It didn’t hurt that as the fort’s cook, Ithimal was able to supply Rade with some of the more choice foods, which as a celebrating faithful of Cayden Cailean, Rade greatly appreciated. It was decided that Rade would not continue on the journey with Shalelu and the rest of the companions. He had a home back in Turtleback Ferry, but first he would travel to Magnimar to plead for more aid for the rangers. Ithimal asked to accompany Rade, to learn from him. Jakardros and Shalelu agreed it was likely best that the Ithimal see more of the world and gain more experience before he returns to the Black Arrows. It was settled and Ithimal said his goodbyes, agreeing to see Shalelu and Jakardros again. Magnimar was an expansive place to Ithimal, but Rade kept him busy learning to be an alchemist. Ithimal kept up him training from Shalelu and Jakardros, evening spending some time with an old Varisian pal of Rades learning more about spotting and disarming various hazards he may half to come across. After a few years, he heard that Shalelu and her friends had defeated the Runelord they sought, and Shalelu had returned to Sandpoint where she had lived before her quest began. Rade also wished to return home to Turtleback Ferry, and he suggested that Ithimal head out and see his adopted sister. Visit Sandpoint! he said, and Ithimal figured why not. He had learned much from his mentors, perhaps it was time to seek out his own knowledge first hand. He began to prepare for the journey the next day, and would arrive in no time. Unfortunately, there was a nagging voice still in the back of his mind. We will have our chance one day. the voice said. We will not remain prisoner in here forever. The voices often spoke of other beings, of devils and angels, but this was the first it spoke of itself. Ithimal tried to remain confident in himself, but he was shaken none the less. |
