"He's probably met one before," Irina mumbles under her breath.
"You do realize that there are many explanations that do not involve demon worship, don't you? Some unfortunate souls are born with magic in them through no fault of their own, and go on to live good, productive lives. I know it can seem scary to those with no knowledge of it, just like a good storm can seem scary to those unfamiliar with the ways of the sea. If a boat captain brings his ship safely home through a storm, do you automatically assume he's made a pact with the forces of darkness?"
Irina, too amused by the small man's words, says nothing as he leads her off. She refrains from making anybody fall asleep though, as it would probably make things worse.
"Your village has had a spot of admittedly bad luck, and now your first reaction is to turn on one of your own and blame him?" Irina growls angrily.
She moves up, motioning this Deld aside so she can get a good look at Ellen. "What kind of dark magic do you think he's been using? Perhaps we, as impartial outside observers, can verify it for you. My friend here is a paladin of the Mithral Rose, so you can automatically trust him completely."
"They don't look very happy. Somebody must have told them we were coming."
Fine with me too. Irina isn't saving for anything special, and she has 200 she can loan him.
"Oh dear, these people seem to live a simpler, kinder way of life to those on the mainland. Good thing we brought a Mithral Rose paladin along to explain what they're doing wrong."
"I also agree with looking into this island grave. The woman may have left papers or journals that could shed more light on what those devils were doing, or why her name was on that list, if the two aren't connected."
We're here (or at least I am).
"Sav...the settlement...?" Irina falters. "We were only supposed to be gone a few hours, to defeat that ogre...not to get sidetracked rescuing captured paladins..."
Irina furiously scrubs at her face.
"Collecting the bounty on goblin ears, of course," Irina says, holding up the ears Alma's made her carry. "Wouldn't make much sense to be anywhere else."
"Oh, and we also rescued this friendly dwarf and this paladin of the Mithril Rose, who'd been chained up by a pair of devils to an altar of Asmodeus," she adds as an after-thought. "But if you still don't think we're able to handle ourselves with a few goblin packs, then we'll gladly head back to Coran with our bounty."
Irina casts detect magic.

"Who? Me?" Irina replies sweetly. "I don't know what you mean. Do those names mean anything to you?"
Irina looks at it. "Of course. I speak the language of the angels."
She smiles sweetly at the rescued paladin, and translates it for everybody.
"What about a big boulder? Throw a large rock at the handle, it'll activate the lever and the weight should open the door."
"Is it the whole door, or the handle?"
Irina grabs his arm before he can place his sword against the handle.
"Really? You're going to use a steel object to check and see if something is still electrified?"
Irina thanks Kydus for the healing, then turns to add her healing touch to Warren and Markov. Where the paladin glowed with heavenly light, Irina's healing is bathed in soothing shadow.
Warren: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Markov: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Her lips twitch at the sight of the hand. She grins slyly. "As long as it promises to behave in a gentlemanly manner," she replies.
"Oh, don't you worry about that. I travel in the company of a Mithral Rose. But if you do insist on worrying about such things, I did just risk my life to save a captured paladin."
She smiles warmly at the man and heads back to guarding the door.
Irina smiles warmly at the rescued paladin. "My patron of secrets and shadows says 'You're welcome."
Once the man is free, Irina heads over and lays a healing hex on him.
Healing: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Irina hefts her crossbow and moves to cover the door.
"Well, I'm not a dwarf, but wouldn't a plan like, 'Find a big heavy thing and use it to smash the altar to rubble' work?"
Irina backs up five feet and hurls a tanglefoot bomb at the imp, trying to snare it to the floor.
Touch attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Unless its prone condition makes that good enough to hit...
Miss direction: 1d8 ⇒ 2 Lands in the square south west of the imp. Irina and the imp both need reflex saves to avoid 6 fire damage and entanglement.
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Warren, I don't think you're close enough to coup de grace the imp.
Fort: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
She trains her sleeping hex on the imp.
That's what you get for spelling her name wrong!
Irina touches Alma, infusing him with healing.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Irina pulls out a tanglefoot bomb and hurls it up at the devil.
Touch attack: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 3 - 2 = 17
Fire damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7 and is entangled.

I thought greatswords did 2d6 base damage? Bastard swords do 1d10.
Irons will back away from the downed devils, whimpering slightly as the spear point dislodges from her flank. She presses a hand against the wound and wills the injury to close.
Heal hex on self: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 It seems her will has faded slightly and her hand still comes away bloody.
"Nnnnh!" Irina cries out, her face going white as the spear skewers skin and muscle and slams against bone.
She grips her morning star and levels her gaze at the devil, willing it, too, to fall asleep.
Irina turns her gaze on the uninjured devil, willing it to fall asleep.
Will DC 15
"This is the smell of death. Alma, are we alone in here?"
"A man...crying," she whispers.
Irina puts a hand on Alma's arm, stopping him. She holds a finger to her lips and tilts her head, listening.

Irina stays by the north door, preventing escape. She stands up.
Irina sleep hexes the goblin southwest if Warren. DC 15
Irina jumps to her feet and hurls a bomb over the tables at the goblin in M39.

Miss: 1d8 ⇒ 6 lands in K37.
Goblins in the blast area need a Reflex save DC 16.
Irina delays until at least one of the meat shields has gone in ahead of her. Once that happens, the ducks in, sees goblins with bows, and dives to the ground, making herself small, and sleep hexing the goblin in N41. Will DC 15.
Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Irina drinks her cure light infusion while the coins are collected.
Cure light: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
She smiles as her hurts are soothed away by the tonic.
Irina, hand still extended from trying to snatch the bomb back, rushes over to check Warren's burns.
"Warren! I'm so sorry. I didn't see you, you came out of nowhere! I can soothe the burns if you like."
Ack! Sorry Warren, I got ninja'd by a corrected map. I guess Irina got carried away with her bomb throwing.
Irina takes a 5-foot step south, getting cover behind the corner, and lobs a bomb into N16.
Touch attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Reflex DC 16 or take 6 fire and be entangled.
"Markov! Back up!" Irina shouts, motioning for Markov to mirror her maneuver.
