Thackett please close the shutters on this floor I’m worried about a storm. Ness, come upstairs with me please. He hands his wife the note scrawled in elvish. It reads: “There’s a clockwork spy. Indi motions for the family to stay quiet and carefully closes the lid. Drawing on his knowledge of religion he offers a prayer to the stag god in hushed, reverent tones. Erastil, Stag God, Old Deadeye. I know you don’t care for flowery language, so I’ll speak plainly: we meant no offence, either by taking the bow, scattering the ashes of your book, or disturbing this grave. You were worshiped here by the people of this village and our only goal is to find the out what happened to them. In this way we are hunters, seeking answers and survival. As your parables tell us: “A man who chases two rabbits catches none” so our aim is singular and we take practical steps to achieve it. And to the spirit that restlessly wanders this room, if you worshiped Erastil, or were one of his priests, we vow to serve your community by discovering what befell them. You have my word, and the word of my family, that we will do all we can to bring them - and you - peace. |
