I'll give up my spot as well. Things have gotten really hectic, and I've got a couple of other games that just started. Glad you've got backups.

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

My bad. I posted on the wrong thread.

Hytogg sits quietly in his room below the stairs at the Whimpering Unicorn dreaming of setting off on grand adventures someday.

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

I think Hytogg is done. I forgot how fiddly 1st edition was... but it's bringing back fond memories. Should be fun.

I should be able to complete my profile this weekend... but I've at least updated the profile main page.

That's what I chose as well. should we be kin? rivals?

I'm leaning towards a Dwarven Thief... Pirate...

I'm probably going to re-use this Alias as I have so many. I'll adjust as things are resolved. I'll have to review the PHB to see what I'm best suited for. I think I remember we used to be able to deduct 2 points to one ability and add 1 to another. Does this ring a bell?

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

Hi Megan,

Do you want to go ahead and remove Hytogg from the game. I don't think he's coming back, and I'm so far behind reading what's going on I'll never catch up. I do thank you for the opportunity, and hopefully we'll game together again.

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

Finally unable to sleep due to all the commotion outside, Hytogg throws on his sleeping robe, and his fuzzy Sphinx slippers and heads to the door throwing it open with anger.

"I said to leave me alone". Then seeing the messenger he stops for moment, grabs the message without thanks, breaks the wax seal, and begins to read. As he reads his face goes white, and all the anger disappears from his face...replaced by...

DC 12 Sense Motive

Spoiler:

A mixture of sadness, and shock.

He then drops the letter to the ground ignoring everyone else, and leaving the door open, before heading back to his room, slamming his door behind him. You can hear various bangs, and slams from his room...behind his closed door. The message lies forgotten on the floor just inside the entryway.

"But why would anyone be following me?

"And what do you mean I do not want your assistance? Did we not all work as a team to defeat Vreeg and Ryloth's minions to clear the 'Dead Warrens' of their lair? Did we not meet here before the execution to plan our efforts to save Sephira? I dare say without Master Diggle's and Varrel's assistance the entire effort would have been so much more difficult. I don't know who else assisted but I trust you all did your own part to help out... and you did so discretely enough that my distraction worked perfectly. No one followed me over the wall to a certain death. I guessed you all were tired from the evenings efforts, which is why only a few showed at the Temple last night which is where we planned to regroup after all. Digle wanted to see the Marshal and so did I. I told you all that transpired at that meeting and that she wishes to speak with the entire group today!"

"Since we had just finished clearing the Dead Warrens, after all, I guessed you had all gone to bed?

"What has you so upset?"

"What has me upset is that before you showed up with your know everybody, and everything attitude, we actually did things together as a group". "You just say 'This is what I'm going to do' then try to make it look less self serving, by saying that we don't have to go along with you". "I don't understand why you can't grasp the concept of group activity". "You happen to know everyone in town, have connections with the guard, Are in the back pocket of the High Priest of Pharasma, Know people on the Harbor batteries, are an alchemist, and of course your mother is a Harrow reader, and runs a secure shelter for distraught ladies". "My problem with you is that you are all about you". "You leave no room for anyone else to exist in your universe". "After a while I"ve gotten to the point that I really don't try to do anything, because you'll either be able to do it better, or have some family member or acquaintance do it better". "At this point I don't care to associate with you at all anymore". "Just start your own adventuring group starring...Wait for it...Ashe the one man show".

With that Hytogg storms off to his chambers, and slams the door behind him, yelling over his shoulder as he goes, "I'm going to bed". "I've got a headache". "Wake me after you finish saving the world".

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

@Varrel
"Let me see what you have there". "Ah yes". "You've made a common, but understandable error here". "You see how the double spiral continues to the left on this one, and stops short on this one". "I'm sure you'll be able to grasp it with a little practice".

Hytogg seems glad to be distracted by something more mundane, and academic, and for a moment forgets the crises they are part of... Also, I would like to copy the things from Varrel's spellbook. I'll try to find time this week to do so".

@ Ashe

[b]"Anti-Plague, and Anti-Toxins are the simplest of formula's". "I knew them even before I took 'Formal' training in alchemy at the academy". "I'm sure even an amateur like you might not mess them up too bad". "You can brew them between saying your prayers, feeding the poor, manning the walls, guarding the river, handling the family business, courting all the bird voiced...and legged courtesans in the city, preening, dancing, and otherwise making a complete fool of yourself".

"Did you even check to see if you were being followed before you led anybody your flamboyance might have attracted back to 'My House'? "Of course not". "What am I thinking". "You only think of yourself, and the city's opinion of you".

"Since you obviously don't need or want our input or assistance, why don't you just go ahead and investigate the sunken ship, while you're making potions". "We'll all just sit hear and play cards".

After his tirade, Hytogg huffs, draws his cloak tight, and begins the journey to...well he's not sure, since Ashe seems to have taken care of gathering all the information the party might have taken part in... So he just stops on the corner. "Don't forget to lock up"!

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

"I'm sorry". "Wait for whom"?

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

Hytogg calmly sits looking at the cards on the table...waiting for some divine...or arcane understanding to dawn on him, and blustering when it does not.

I'm thinking Harrowed might just be my next feat :-)

"It is obvious the Paladin cares not for this group, so I suggest we care not for him". "If he wishes to Martyr himself then so-be-it". "I'm tired of standing pat waiting to see what foolish act he attempts next". He truly thinks he can take on the world by himself, whilst we sit back and applaud his selfish actions". "I say we proceed as though he is not a member of our little organization, and plan as we see fit". "I will suffer his presence when I by chance encounter him, but he is no longer welcome under my roof". "No telling what he would unwittingly lead here".

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

It's painfully obvious that we have two different games going on here. Ashes, and everyone else s. I suggest we just keep playing as thought he doesn't exist, then when he swings in on his vine, we'll let him play along. "-)

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

Lowering the lighting, and dressed majestically in his most arcane appearing robes, Hytogg carefully approaches the table. He lights some incense, and carefully looks at each of the people around the table solemnly and nods.

"We are ready". "Let fate determine our course". "Zellera". "We are ready". "Commence".

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

Me too. I lent someone my Harrow card deck anyway, and won't be able to get it back for a couple of weeks.

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

It's been so long. How do you wish me to read the cards online? I was under the assumption this is something you would do, then read us the results.

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

Hytogg seeing that it looks like the Harrow reading will not be happening till the group is all together, says his good-nights, and retires to his bedchamber.

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

"Please Una". "No need to pay for my hospitaity". "You're welcome anytime, and mi casa es su casa". "In fact the presence of so many capable adventurers probably keeps the riff raff at bay".

"Tomorrow for the card reading it is then".

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

Hytogg patiently waits shuffling the Harrow Deck.

"I suppose I can wait till you return with Shakhan". "Never hurts to have company to help figure out what these things are saying".

"Can you believe the nerve of that idiot?" Una has been fuming about Ashe for a long, long time.

"I think me high lord paladin has been too involved in the nobles of this city. But I can't help but feel that something more will happen. The city is on the verge of anarchy. Gods help us, but Ashe's actions may eventually push it over completely that way."

She leans against the table, cradling her crossbow, checking to see if the wood needs oiling.

"In the meantime... I hope we can get the Harrow cards to work again. There's more coming. I can tell. After that, I recommend going to the Cathedral of Pharasma and having a word with our do-gooder, getting on the same page and all that."

"Ah, yes...yes". "Let's consult the cards". "Though I doubt what they have to say will matter much as that blind idiot Paladin seems to be making all our choices for us". "Does he truly believe the war against oppression and evil can be won, by his actions alone"? "Does he not understand that allies must be used to accomplish objectives"?

"I can't imagine his upbringing". "Ashe I am going off to work today". "I will dart in front of the first charging carriage I see, swoop across the street to save the soul of a mass murderer, Then feed and clean all the children in the slums". "But don't worry, I'll sneak out the back so nobody will know where I came from". "I will not put you in danger". .

"The only thing bigger than his heart is his ego, and the only thing smaller than his brain is his ability to work as a team".

"Bah"!. "Enough griping". "Hopefully I'll never have to see that arrogant head in the air, self righteous %$&&^( again.".

Male Dwarf | HP 7 (d6) | AC 8 Thief 1(Rogue) | XP 0/1250

Don't mean to be a pest...but Hytogg has mentioned twice now that he went back to his house. He is for all intents and purposes "done" with this group's showcasing...first because it's dangerous, and second, because he want's to be the center of attention. We'll have to see where this goes, but Hytogg is too stubborn to do what Ashe wants him to do at the moment.

While I understand and agree with many of Ashe's points, here's the one thing that I believe is being missed. Role Playing is a group game. It's not Well "I'll do this", and "You do that". Peoples first instincts are to keep the party together, and do stuff in co-ordination. We could no more let Ashe get carried away or killed, than he would us. If everyone played their character basing the character's actions on the alter-ego created, the game would quickly dissolve into inter-party conflict...which is close to surfacing here, and chaos...the exact opposite of what Ashe is all about.

To act this way forces the party's hands, because we don't leave anyone behind. Not to beat the point into the ground, but the statement of "I don't expect anyone else to help is close to grandstanding, and waiting for everyone else to stand back and applaud. Martyrdom really doesn't fit into role playing games until maybe the end scene of the entire adventure. It's OK to sacrifice your life to save the world...not to save a perceived innocent victim. Pick your battles, and pick your times to shine...not at every opportunity.

I've really enjoyed this game, and I don't think this is something we can't work through...but I do think that Ashe could tone down things a bit. I appreciate your investment and portrayal of the Paladin, just wonder if he could perhaps keep some of the party's motivations, and desires in mind before acting so rashly.

Hytogg almost drops his latest book in horror, as he sees what is happening. "Fool do-gooder"! "Do you think getting us all killed or captured is the prudent action"!

Hytogg reaches into his pouch and withdraws a few compenents, gesturing and speaking some creaky words of power.

I'm glad you didn't take my post as an attack...because it wasn't. I was simply addressing why I didn't participate more, and my frustrations with Hytogg's usefulness and our lack of challenges.

Really the only thing that still rankles me is the Pseudodragon. Not only is it a powerful ally, it's almost become a party member...and for some reason having the chaotic beast follow the very lawful Ashe's every whim just doesn't seem logical. On a more minor note, I don't really see how the Alchemy fits into his character either...when Hytogg already is expert at it...but I'm sure there is a logical reason behind it...just seems like everywhere he turns, someone else is doing something he should be doing.

I'll make an effort to be more engaged with Ashe. Maybe I've been a little too laid back, trying to incite party cohesiveness. I'll ramp things up a bit and see how they play out.

Thanks for responding, and looking forward to seeing how things shake out. Most of this would be no problem in a sit-down game, but the written word sometimes lets us misconstrue meaning, while allowing for calculated actions, and reactions.

Hytogg brings his nose out of his spellbook long enough to cast a glance at the new arrival. Great, a silly bird, a ridiculous pseudo-dragon, and now a gnome. Soon we can start a circus..

Hytogg then follows the others to the door, putting away his book, and listening to the conversation. And a crazed, uncontrolled spellcaster as well. This can't turn out good.

Hytogg catches Una's glance, and rolls his eyes and shrugs, before drawing closer to her. Whispering: "Look at the bright side of it, at least he didn't bring the golem along as his shield bearer". Hytogg whispers nodding his head at the paladin.

Hytogg is still here, and would post more...but there is really no need. Usually Ashe, and Varrel with their companions usually wipe out anything we face...without suffering damage...so he's not really needed. Not complaining...I'm sure those two will get in over their head at some time...Just not really a need for Hytogg to do anything at this time. I'm still here, and reading, and will post as needed.
