Er... does it matter, in this case?
Here, I'll name some candidates from the Bestiary - Aboleth, Behir, Kraken, Naga, Remorhaz. Could look up more.

A simple question, but fairly involved when one thinks of it.

The half-fiend template adds 2 claw attacks to the base creature.

Does it still add them if the base creature (assume it's monstrous) does not possess arms/equivalent limbs to tack them onto?

So I was browsing the internet yesterday, and I thought I heard the sound of a James Jacobs Stamp of Approval. Reminded me to visit!

Dear JJ,

1) (General) Do you read any webcomics? If so, which ones?

2) (Pathfinder rules) Is there a spell, effect, way etc. that changes the way alignment-specific powers and spells affect a character? To provide specific example, is there any way for a Neutral character to gain the benefit of the APG Paladin spell Bestow Grace, or for an Evil character to not have their disguise foiled by the Celestial Sorcerer firing a Heavenly Fire at them?

yes and no. Creatures like the Ghaele don't use material components for their SLA abilities.

They do not, no, but they are also disallowed from using any Spell or Spell-like Ability that emulates a spell with an expensive material component, as per Summon Monster spell line. Remember, this is for when they are summoned via Summon Monster ONLY.

The question here is, "Does the Summon Monster clause include a constantly-active ability, or just on-use ones?", because True Seeing is indeed a spell-like ability that emulates a spell with an expensive material component. It makes things a little silly, as then a summon that has 'just' See Invisibility is pointedly better than one that tots full on True Seeing. ;)

As the subject says, is there an item, spell or effect ingame that changes how an alignment-specific effect (say, a spell that works different on different alignments) affects you (not just how you detect)?

Dear JJ,

Here's one for ya: What do Eyes (as in the eye slot items, such as Eyes of the Eagle, Eyes of Doom, etc) actually look like? Are they these small magical contact lense-like things, or are they something bigger, like a pair of monocles? How are they worn anyway?

Furthermore, what alternative items would you suggest for the Eyes slot besides the listed (which is eyes, glasses and goggles)?

Folks have already covered the basics - there is no such thing as "threat" in tabletop games, generally.

Positioning, in-character insults and general obnoxiousness is what gets the enemy to go for you. If it does not, well, then you have a bigger problem and you'll need a heart-to-heart with your DM and a possible rebuild to a masochist tank if you can't find a way for a classic high-armor fellow to work out.

Either way, good luck!

I'm a big fan of the T-Rex, myself, just for their greater ability to grapple. (Give it Animal Growth for extra fun times. If you have to ask your DM if a Colossal creature can fit in the room, things are about to get interesting! :P )
Its amazing reach can be of use as well.

Another thing about the T-Rex is it has... well. An utterly obscene Perception mod (+37!). As someone once said to me, "Apparently it can spot an invisible halfling." So much for "it can only see you if you move"! ;)

As the subject says - do you reckon it's worth it? (Obviously, for a half-BAB class)

I am wondering if the bonus is truly worth a feat slot at levels, say, 15+, considering most of the opposition will have quite sizable bonuses on their CMB at that point.
(Assume you're building a character at this level, just to avoid commentary like 'Well, you'll take it early on so you'll have it anyway and it doesn't matter'. ;) )

What do you think?

I'm going to put in another vote for Sorcerer. Sorcies aren't necessarily easy to -build- properly, but depending on that build, they can be incredibly simple to play. Good luck! :)

My viewpoint is that there's simply a ton of ways to represent each alignment - they're not set in stone like it's a videogame. I tend to view alignments as highly mutable and sometimes overlapping slightly at the edges, else what you get is basically 9 molds you can get characters from and that's it (which is no fun in my book). I don't put a terrible weight on them - actions and personality decide alignment, not the other way around.

So the answer is... not only could I play a TN, I could play several different kinds of TN. ;)

'lo, folks!

I'm a bit torn on which statistic block to bestow upon my wizard character. Yes, I've read Treantmonk's guide, and quite thoroughly, too, and I'm still a bit torn. ;)

The basic facts are like this:
-It is a very high level character from the get-go (built at level 17).
-The game will likely last to level 20 and even beyond (though capped at 20).
-The character is human. Racial and leveling bonuses all in Int (obviously).
-The character is a pure Wizard.
-The generation system is pointbuy (default PF pointbuy).
-I've milked a total of 25 points for use in Dex, Con and Int. I would not like Con to be lower than 14.
-I'm going for pure optimization under those limitations.

Thus, I'm torn between the following (base, no bonuses applied) setups:
16 Dex, 14 Con, 16 Int
14 Dex, 16 Con, 16 Int
13 Dex, 14 Con, 18 Int
15 Dex, 15 Con, 16 Int (with a hanging point in another stat - odd numbers are for Inherent bonus fiddling)

Which would you go for and why?

Thanks in advance for all your help!
