I liked the change of pace, mostly because, I feel that not every scenario needs combat to get past effectively. Though, I do have characters that are great at combat, managing to get around them is pretty fun.

It's pretty much an honor system type of ruling. Easy enough to have GMs write on the chronicles as to which box the player wanted to fill out, while the player checks off the wanted box on their card, which is the easiest way to track in my opinion.
