Arcane Lock is cast on my front door. My door has a lock. The Disable Device DC on the lock is increased by the spell. If I give someone else a key to my front door, can they open it? I would presume having a key means you automatically pass the Disable Device check, but I don't think its stated anywhere.
I believe that in 3.5 the raw material cost for crafting was halved if they were abundant in the area. I always took that to mean if I gathered my own poisons from local plants and creatures, I would still need a craft(alchemy) or (poison) check to refine the materials into a usable form (making it sticky for weapon application etc). I don't know if this is mentioned anywhere in Pathfinder.

That being said, there is nothing about the spell that would prevent someone from using magic to determine the truth. You could harvest what you wanted and cover it up, but again, the truth could be divined, as you are only changing the appearance of the corpse. The parts you are changing are only cosmetic, so you could not grow functional replacement organs to 'restore' a corpse to good enough condition for raising. I would not allow for parts to be reattached, but I would allow for volume/mass to be taken from other parts of the body and squished into the shape of the desired parts. So, for instance, you could mold their torso to be smaller and stretch upwards to make a new, fake, head. I think that makes sense, except that no stretching would be required since you can increase the size of the corpse by 1 step, so you could get the extra mass from that. Of course you couldn't replace a part and increase the size as well. I suddenly have visions of removing key parts from dead enemies and covering it up, encouraging their allies to waste money on a Raise Dead that is destined to fail :) (The problem with playing an evil wizard dealing in politics is the number of wealthy enemies you make)

You can make the corpse one size larger or smaller and change anything else about it including its apparent type, gender, or age. Creatures with a reason to suspect deception may make a Will saving throw to realize that the corpse was altered. If you chose to make the corpse look like a specific individual anyone who knows that individual can make a Will save to realize that the corpse is not actually that person. However, if a creature fails its Will save by 5 or less they believe the corpse is that of someone who closely resembled the person they knew rather than a deliberate fake. This spell merely changes the appearance of the corpse. Any spell or effect that targets the corpse (such as speak with dead or raise dead) treats it as if it still had its original appearance. This spell allows dramatic changes to the body, such as making a human corpse look like a pegasus corpse. So ... can you change the apparent cause of death? Wouldn't removing a stab wound from a body be a minor change compared with making it larger, horse shaped and winged? If you can change the cause of death, how far could you go? If someone had their head cut off, could you re-attach it? Or grow a new one? Could you harvest organs and then sculpt the corpse so it isn't obvious? Could you grow replacement organs? What are the limits? Both common sense, RAW and RAI?
I have been playing a Wizard who tends to sneak by floating invisibly on a Floating Disk. I leave no foot prints and don't need to worry about footsteps either.
Wall of Force and Shield are both similar force effects, but they both specify that they are invisible. Floating Disk doesn't say anything about appearance, just that it is a plane of force. Have I missed anything? Or is this just another GM decision thing?

Change Shape specifies that you can look like a specific individual - meaning that if "Gail" was a real person at one point, her - or looking like someone simply of the race she's polymorphing into, which could be the same image every time if she wished, or one that is different every time, depending on her whim. This is both RAW and RAI. I know it states you can change into a specific creature, but I took this to mean a human or an elf. Does it actually state "specific individual" somewhere? That would solve all my problems :)

Polymorph specifically states that fine details can be controlled, which would strongly suggest to me that different appearances can be obtained. I don't see the case for only looking like "Gail". Could you clarify please?
Change Shape (Su) A creature with this special quality has the ability to assume the appearance of a specific creature or type of creature (usually a humanoid), but retains most of its own physical qualities. ... This ability functions as a polymorph spell, the type of which is listed in the creature's description, but the creature does not adjust its ability scores (although it gains any other abilities of the creature it mimics). Unless otherwise stated, it can remain in an alternate form indefinitely. Polymorph: Unless otherwise noted, polymorph spells cannot be used to change into specific individuals. Although many of the fine details can be controlled, your appearance is always that of a generic member of that creature's type. Polymorph spells cannot be used to assume the form of a creature with a template or an advanced version of a creature. I am looking at a Succubus with the Change Shape (Alter Self) ability. She wants to disguise herself as a human, so she uses Change Shape to become a Human female who goes by the name of Gail. She reverts to her natural form to fly somewhere. Can she change into "Gail"'s form again? She is not changing to look like a specific real Human. She just wants the same form she took before, but the rules state it is always generic. |
