"We're not sure. We were in the area and we heard sounds like whimpering, and came to see what it was. I thought it was a dog or something, She links her arm in Cooper's with a sort of vapid smile, and leans her head on his shoulder, "I made Jonas go to see where the poor animal was caught, but we found her. Jonas is such a hero, he helped the woman here, and got bandages from inside. She lays her fingertips on the EMT's shoulder, lightly, Isn't he just the bravest thing? I always say he should become a paramedical, or doctor or something, he cares so much about people... Hailey will continue on in glowing terms, with the basic hope of proving the vapid, devoted girlfriend, till the EMT more or less pushes them away so he can do his job, at which time she'll move to just fade away from the scene.

Hailey grabs her phone and dials for the Ambulance. "There's been an attack and a woman is hurt badly. We heard her cries from outside and came in to see what was the matter. Just hurry!" She quickly gives the address and then drops the call. "Plausible enough story, but it's pretty thin."

"The water will wash away any trace that can be used, magical or forensics." She turns her head back to the other room, "COOP! Do you have any healing magic, we need it in here, now." She then turns to the shower puts up her shield and cuts the water.

Hailey moves towards the bathroom and the shower, warily fearing what she suspects is behind the door, "I have a bad feeling about this, guys." She turns the knob to the door, her splatgun at the ready.

"Sorry guys, I'm not really a B&E kind of girl. Freezing might work."

Hailey smiles at Cooper as she nestles back into the seat, trying futilely to make the thing more comfortable, "Gram was kind of a hedge-wizard, remedies for the sick, potions for fertility and the like. I always had charms she'd made while growing up, and didn't put stock in them mostly, till I was older and realized, I'd never really been sick, hadn't ever been injured, despite what my parents would say was really trying; martial arts, sports, she grins an impish smile, "High heels." She shrugs, "I never thought about it till I went to a jiu-jitsu class and didn't wear my charm. A black eye and dislocated shoulder later...and gram coming by with salves that healed them, I started asking questions. Things just kind of fell into place after that."

Hailey inclines her chin at the departing few, "Not a bad idea Hans, but we'd better take it slow, he's sure to have wards on his place, with as much as he's got on his person.

Hailey chuckles lightly at Hans' comment, "Or very bad takeout, right?"

"Other than maybe an internet search for the guy, I'm out of ideas. Sorry boys, but a stakeout sounds like it may be our best bet."

"Now comes the flip side of this coin. We need to get these guys out of here, and off this Russell guy's radar." She looks over at the group, "You have some place you can lie low?"

Hailey shakes her head and mutters a bit, "A school that's teaching that stuff? The council's going to love that."

"Well it sounds like this Russell is no friend of yours then. He played us both against each other. It sounds like he used Jake to grab something for him, so he wouldn't be traceable, which led us to Jake, then having used you for what he wanted, sent you to either deal with us, or sent you to be disposed of." Hailey blows a few strands of hair away from her forehead with an exasperated breath. "Either way, he's getting away with whatever it was he wanted, at your...at all or our expense."

She then gives them a bit of a smile, "Now, I don't know about you all, but being used as a pawn pisses me off. What say all us pawns reach the end of the board, turn around and show him what happens when pawns evolve and group together?"

"Seems we may have a mutual...antagonist? Up until our friend's trouble, we didn't have an inkling of who you were, much less having messed with you. So if someone set you on us, saying we were after you, it could be they were trying to play us against one another?" Hailey smiles a calm smile, and says in a perfectly pleasant tone, "Because I'm sure you wouldn't try to do the things you did against people that could squeeze you like juicing a lemon, now would you?"

Not lost. We've had 4 major projects go live in the last two weeks, with two more on top of it for next month. Just busy as hell, but still trying to keep up ;)

Hailey raises an eyebrow, and drops her invisibility charm. "Cut rate...? Well, cut rate or not, when we start talking about how you were talking, even if you don't? Your boss is going to think poorly. So if I were you, I'd take his offer." Hailey nods her chin in Cooper's direction as she starts to steer the group to somewhere a little less public.

Hailey lets the concentration go on the gravity control, [b]"Sorry about that, Big Guy, it was the only thing I could think of to stop the van."[b]

Hailey watches Hans move towards the van, and curses silently, sending a brief flash of energy to her paintball gun and takes aim at the van, waiting for it to move a bit away from Hans Sorry big guy, if this clips you

She is going to try to wait till Hans is out of the radius of affect for gravity control, and hit the van. 35 str gravity control (3.2K lbs), to try and hold the van or make it heavy enough to pop the tires? Walrus probably won't like it much either.

attack: 1d20 + 7 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 4 = 25

Hailey strains with concentration to hold the gravity control, watching as the others start to chase, "I don't know how long I can hold this, so get moving!"

Sustained effect, so she'll drop it when the others get within the area of effect, 35ft, centered on the van.

fortitude save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Hailey blinks her eyes a few times, wide, and finally gets the dark spots to clear from her vision. She hears Cooper's shout and looks about, finally spotting the little sprite.

kn arcane lore: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 to figure out what the creature is primarily, and then to tell if nullify magic will banish, incapacitate or kill the creature.

Incapacitate or banish:
Hailey holds a hand over the intake port on the paintball gun and releases a little energy, changing the splat to a magic nullifying paintball, and fires at the sprite splat gun vs sprite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 dc 17 Nullify counters all powers of type magic

If Nullify kills the sprite:
Hailey wrestles with the thought of shooting and killing the sprite, but just can't bring herself to do it. Hoping that a paralyzing splat will have an effect she fires that at the small flame creature. paralyze vs sprite: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 dc 17 paralyze

refl save 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
refl save 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Hailey sees the object flying towards them and turns her head from the blast, and covers her head, but not fast enough as the blinding flash puts huge spots in front of her vision. Hoping that none of these guys can see through her invisibility, she backs slowly up till she has a wall at her back and listens for noise from one of the foes and fires the paralysis splat.

ranged attack: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 9 - 2 = 27ranged attack +7, +2 accurate attack
miss chance for blind: 1d20 ⇒ 8Miss 11 or higher

with the crit, the DC would be 20? 17 normally, 15 because of the accurate attack, +5 for crit. If I have that right.

Hailey takes a better look at the meth head to see if he has any charms or magic about him, before firing.

gather information: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
notice: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
arcane lore: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
wasn't sure which would apply so left rolls for all of them. If she notes anything magical about him, she'll use the nullify paintball, if not, paralyze

attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Hailey pipes up in a low, quiet voice, so only her group can hear, "I can try to paralyze them with a splat."

Hailey will pull a pen and paper from her pocket, and with a quick look around to make sure nobody's paying close attention, she'll fade into view. If anyone is watching, she'll stay invisible and just put the pen and paper on the table.

Hailey waits till Hans and Cooper have their food, and she nudges Cooper towards a booth in the corner, so she can watch the young guy behind the counter, and not worry about being accidentally bumped into. She whispers to them, "I'm going to stay and keep an eye on the mark. Not sure where Gemma is."

Hailey, figuring Hans may have enhanced senses, whispers to the big man, "The kid is who the spell's targetting."

Hailey calls on her charm and follows Gemma's lead. When Hans grumps Hailey admonishes "Then order an omlette sandwich

I find it amusing that, while having never been to Boston, I'm recognizing streets from playing Fallout 4....

Hailey gives a smirk and short laugh, "REally, donuts? We tracking cops now?" She looks at the others with a apologetic wince "Sorry bad joke."

She nods to Gemma, "I've got a charm that'll let me do that, sure."

I'd be interested Tumbler. You have a great grasp on the genre. :D

"It looks like the finder is working, so we should be able to follow this. Better to do it quickly though, before whomever it is gets wise and hides themselves. Sure you two won't follow?"

Hailey shakes Jefferson's hand, and offers a hand to Franks Assuming he'll just be Franks and grunt or otherwise not take the hand ;) , and then gives him a wry smile when he declines, and gives him an appraising look. "I'm Hailey, nice to meet you both. What my friend said. Electronics and magecraft don't like each other. Don't mind if you watch, it should be simple, but try to stay clear, and if you don't want to explain to the Bureau why you need replacement cell phones, radios and the like, best to leave them in another room. Since I can't see tall, dark and handsome here leaving guns behind, he may just want to stay away."

Hailey makes her way to the kitchen, or another room, takes out a small piece of metal, and wraps a string or bit of wire around it. Then sets up a small cauldron with water to boil on the stove. Once that's done she sits crosslegged on the floor with the cauldron in front of her, and have Cooper sit beside her. Dropping the blood into the cauldron, she lowers the piece of metal into the cauldron, and taps a small tuning fork, laying it against the string. She then begins to mutter some arcane words, prompting Cooper to follow. At the end of the incantation, she finishes the spell, "Duo et unum"

bluff to see if Franks actually thinks she thinks he's handsome: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
The arcane words before are her taking 20 (if that's allowed in this case)
Kn Arcane (just in case): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26 31 if allowed to take 20

"Easier at a house, we'll need to boil some things, and that'd look a bit suspicious in an alley"

I got in-lawed this weekend. In law came for Thanksgiving, and then stayed a day or two later than expected...

Hailey nods, "A break in at a book shop with a whole floor dedicated to rare books? Right before Hans goes a little haywire? Too many coincidences. I'll need some things to work the charm, but they should be available to find at Hans' place. If you want to nose about a bit more, I'll do what I can to keep people out here occupied."

Hoping that what I need for the ritual would be easy to find. It was always the simpler of the charms Dresden did. If not, it'll be a trip to Hailey's place

Well with that in mind, I look forward to the later books. I'm also listening to them on audio book during my commute to work. The narrator is really good, which probably helps with the characters as well.

I'll have to check out Grimnoir. I like the "urban fantasy" genre, in general. Dresden so far is my favorite, but the "Hollows" series is really good, and the series by Ilona Andrews that starts with "Magic Bites" is also good.

Just finished book one of MHI, and it's really good. Hans, I totally see what you were talking about. The author is a REAL gun afficionado. I think I know more about guns now just from what he wrote about them :D. But yeah, really good characters, some good twists in the story, and a hell of a lot of fun! :D

"I can go in and get it. Should be okay to scrape it up from the carpet." She rummages in the pocket of her jacket for nail file, or something similar that she can scrape some blood onto a piece of paper or something, so she can have it for later for the charm. "Do you want to go get it? You already know where it is. It'll save time. I don't need much if we just need the one charm." Hailey holds out the tools to Gemma if she wants to go back in.

Hailey gives a bit of a jump when Gemma pops up right next to her, "Geeze, give a little warning, would ya?" Shaking her head with a grin before answering the question, "I could probably create a finding charm, or something like that, but we'd need some of the blood."

Assuming that this would be a way to use the arcane knowledge and ritualist combination, to create a charm like Dresden does?

notice: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
investigate: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30

Hailey finds a spot among any bystanders and then tries to see if any of them are paying any undo attention to the place. Usually vandals like to watch their handiwork to see how much chaos they unleash, let's see what I can see.

"The council isn't all bad. They'd see this for what it is. He was mind controlled. It's not like they don't let weres run free. Pretty big packs in Chicago and New York already, I think. In any case, we don't have to even have Hans here when we show them the book and the circle. We found some bad mojo, and we're reporting it." She shrugs, "Hell, we could even go so far as to take a photo, and the book to them."

Hailey lets out a little laugh, "Me, I'm small time, Cooper, I doubt the council knows who I am, much less keeps tabs." She sighs, "Still, this circle is heavyweight stuff. I think they'd be the first people that we should contact. Maybe they can run interference with the STFU?" Hailey shrugs, not really sure what to do.

Hailey steps back away from Gemma, so she can take a picture. "This is some complicated work. Well beyond my capabilities. It's more something that someone on the Council would use, somebody trained in mind magic, but this?" Hailey shakes her head grimly, "This is way dark, but it should be enough to clear Hans, if anyone comes poking around."

Hailey bites her lip at the news of Hans' leash, "Maybe we should let the powers that be about it? Hopefully they have some sort of 'brick switch' that can render it useless."

Hailey turns towards the kitchen and the old circle. Squatting down till she can get close to the circle without touching or breaking it, she examines it to figure out what it was for.

ARcane Lore: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

Hailey smiles at the officer, "Nothing like that officer. Just someone that likes to look out for my boys in blue. You take care now."

With that, Hailey will turn back to Hans, Cooper and Gemma, and takes off with the rest.

Hailey nods at Gemma, "I can do that." Hailey walks over to the two cops that are still under the influence and pops them with a couple of paintballs. "Still might be a good idea to talk to one of them to see if they know anything."

Hailey walks up to the first officer she nullified and places an arm on his shoulders. "You okay officer? You seem out of sorts.

No worries Tumbler, that's why I reacted to it in character ;)

Between the sharp cracks of the police weapons and the soft pops of the paintball gun, Hailey shouts back, "Holding still? He's paralyzed." She watches the paintball splat, hopefully against one of the police, I know my aim was good on that, it had to have hit. "That splatter have any luck in changing the man in blues' eye problem, Xerox?"

He can yell at me later, it's the best nickname I could think of under duress.

Shoot Cop: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Nullify Power Roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Hailey reaches down and carefully removes the Chrysanthemum blossom from Hans' hair, trying to keep it as intact as she can so she can examine it later.

She turns towards the police officers and aims, hoping that the Nullify charm will work.

Search on Hans for any devices or charms that might control him: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (1) + 15 = 16
Notice: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32
Arcane Lore: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20In case it's needed to understand what's going on

"S!&%, the cops are showing glowing red eyes, guys. I don't think they're out to protect and serve right now.

She concentrates on the paintball gun, and switches the effect to nullify magical powers. Takes a full action to switch powers, so Hailey's done this round

Still spelling out bonuses and subtractions from everything to make sure I get them closer to being right. I'm still a newbie to M&M. :D

Hailey watches as the car and bench go flying in opposite directions of one another and gulps a little. Buck up, Hailey, this is what you get paid the big bucks for, right? She lets out a breath and moves in after Cooper gets the werewolf grappled and fires the paralysis potion at Hans.

"Hans, it's us, you need to calm down!

Paralysis Shot: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16 Attack Focus(ranged)+Improved Aim+Precise Shot 2(negates penalty for shooting into melee) + whatever bonus for Hans being grappled(loses dodge, I think?)

Paralysis Will Save 17

Hailey thinks on it for a moment. "I think I may reset, I never saw any kind of talisman or trinket on him. He may just be a 'natural' werewolf. Paralysis may be our best bet. She concentrates on the gun for a bit and a sharp purple glow issues from the paintball chamber. "Alright, I think I'm ready."

ready steady
