Gromar hears the call for a drinking game and sighs. This drink is too good to waste by glugging it down as quickly as possible just to get so drunk one couldn't properly enjoy it. He finds himself in a quandary. Normally one to take control of such a scene, he doesn't want to draw too much attention to himself lest his hosts think he is trying to steal the scene out from under them. Quietly cursing the quibbles of nobility and their inability to share plans so that others could properly act, he takes another ale and sits down to watch the drinking contest.

"You are assuming that the existing bandits would welcome them or even bother to ask or listen to them before killing them and taking all their stuff. Or that they would survive their first attempt at banditry. The goal of sending them would be is that collectively they might manage to kill at least a few bandits before dying a completely forgettable death that leaves the streets of Restov with that many less beggars. Perhaps I am wrong, though, and the Swordlords do not have such cynical thoughts going through their heads. We shall find out soon enough, I suppose. In the meantime, there are others to meet, and I don't know how much time I have before they appear, so, enjoy the food and drink, and the best of luck to you, whatever they decide." With a final nod, the gnome turns and looks for the next interesting group or conversation.

His performance complete, and being amused by the entertainment that the Swordlords had inadvertently provided by inviting some unexpected guests, Gromar gets down from the table, grabs another drink from a nearby servant that isn't quite sure how to react to the impromptu performance and starts to mingle a bit. Hearing an interesting conversation regarding the quality of folks being summoned, he joins it. "I suspect you that you are right, fair lady; these kinds of opportunities are as much about cleaning out the streets as they are about building heroes. They will likely group the capable ones together, and everyone else will be cannon fodder sent out to soften the region up. The real question will be who they decide are the capable ones. The region in question is a rough one, and relying entirely on noble blood unused to the dangers of the land would be risky. The odd ones here are quite likely the ones with the necessary skills to survive out there."

Gromar enjoys the people watching for a while, content with just a frequently refilled drink, until he starts getting bored, and reaching the bottom of his current cup, decides that something different is required. Making a fair bit of empty space on the table in front of him, he gets up on it, and proceeds to use the cleared space as a stage from whence he can properly tell some of the classics he had learned while growing up in his family's tavern and demonstrate to the Swordlords his qualifications while also using the performance as a measure of the perspective explorers by gauging reactions. As long as he understands that the guards don't understand a word he is saying, it's quite doable. The fact that it's a completely one sided conversation is a different matter entirely.

Gromar brightens up as others enter the room. "They are nobles, they will keep us waiting as long or as short a time as it pleases them to. I am content to sit and empty their liquor cabinet as long as they desire, as I am but a humble frontiersman with little coin, and am often stuck drinking just moonshine or something close enough to it."

Seeing that the kobold situation was resolved sufficiently and receiving permission to enter, the gnome entered the hall, and finding a good vantage point to see all who entered, called for a drink, and waited impatiently for others to arrive and engage in conversation with.

A tall, sturdy gnome in simple but sturdy travel garb approaches taking in the scene quietly. Observing the kobold carefully, he concentrates briefly (using the comprehend language SLA), and though he can't talk directly to the kobold, he can understand what the kobold is trying to do. Pulling out his invite, he speaks to the kobold while pointing to the invite and then the guard, "Show the guard the summons and maybe someone inside can help." To further demonstrate, he walks up to one of the guards and hand the guard his summons, patiently waiting for the response. |
