Silver Crusade

Hello valued brains trust.

A couple months ago I was reading a post about a healer type build using the Sorcerer Phoenix bloodline multiclassed with Oracle. I am interested in making a character similar to this but cannot really seem to make one I think is ... worthwhile.

The usual popular methods to increase fire damage were used coupled with feats to increase healing like Fey Foundling and Fast Healer.

I know in the post I read the build seemed quite effective, but I cannot seem to find the post I was reading. The oracle level/levels were to gain access to life link I think.

Anyway, has anyone built a character like this before? Was it fun to play?

I am thinking of skipping Oracle completely, half-orc for the +1/2 damage to fire spell favored class bonus and potentially orc bloodline crossblooded archetype.

Hello everyone,
I am thinking of running some games for a few friends and I have been looking around for something that sounds fun. Age of worms sounds fun. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a copy? I will be running it within the Pathfinder system and I am sure I can handle converting stuff just fine but I cannot seem to find the document anywhere.

Silver Crusade

Here is the ability. I would hide it in a spoiler button thing but it seems the How to format text button is broken?? and I do not know how.

Call Celestial Ally (Sp): At 8th level, a sacred servant can call upon her deity for aid, in the form of a powerful servant. This allows the sacred servant to cast lesser planar ally once per week as a spell-like ability without having to pay the material component cost or the servant (for reasonable tasks). At 12th level, this improves to planar ally and at 16th level, this improves to greater planar ally. The sacred servant’s caster level for this effect is equal to her paladin level. This ability replaces aura of resolve.

Anyway, my issue with this is as a Paladin the creatures that would be called would mostly be Lawful Good?? So just archons? What creatures are worth summoning? I do not have any of the monster books. Specifically the 12th level version that does up to 12 HD (as per Planar Ally). There seems to be a lot of more evil creatures in the range but looking at Planar Ally on d20pfsrd the only Lawful Good one is the Couatl. What other good options are there for this ability?

Furious Spell:
Benefit(s): A furious spell that deals hit point damage adds twice the spell’s original level to the amount of damage dealt by the spell. Spells that affect multiple targets deal the extra damage once to each target, regardless of whether the spell deals its damage all at once or in multiple hits (in the latter case, add the extra damage to the first hit against each target).

I have removed some stuff about casting while raging which is not relevant to my question.

Heighten spell:
Benefit: A heightened spell has a higher spell level than normal (up to a maximum of 9th level). Unlike other metamagic feats, Heighten Spell actually increases the effective level of the spell that it modifies. All effects dependent on spell level (such as saving throw DCs and ability to penetrate a lesser globe of invulnerability) are calculated according to the heightened level.

Heighten spell FAQ:
Heighten Spell: How does this spell combine with other metamagic feats and using higher-level slots for lower-level spells?
Heighten Spell is worded poorly and can be confusing. It lets you use a higher-level spell slot for a spell, treating the spell as if it were naturally a higher level spell than the standard version. Unlike Still Spell, which always adds +1 to the level of the spell slot used for a spell, Heighten Spell lets you decide increase a spell's level anywhere from +1 to +9, using a spell slot that is that many spell levels higher than the normal spell.

The language implies that the heightened spell uses whatever spell level is used to prepare or cast it, but the rules text was inherited from 3.5 and doesn't take into account (1) the normal rule allowing you to prepare a spell with a higher-level spell slot, and (2) combining it with other metamagic feats.

For (1), having Heighten Spell doesn't mean any spell you cast with a higher-level slot is automatically heightened; you still have to make the decision to prepare or cast the spell an normal or heightened.
If you are a non-spontaneous caster (such as a cleric or wizard) who wants to prepare a lower-level spell in a higher-level slot, there is no reason not to use Heighten Spell on that spell (it doesn't cost you any extra time or any other game "currency").
If you are a spontaneous caster, heightening a spell when using a higher-level spell slot still increases the casting time, just like any other use of metamagic, so you have to weigh the benefits of either
• casting it normally using the higher-level slot
vs.
• increasing the casting time to cast it as a heightened spell and treat the spell as the level of the spell slot you're using.
Example A 10th-level sorcerer could cast fireball using a 3rd-, 4th-, or 5th-level spell slot, it would only be a standard action casting time, would count as a 3rd-level spell, and have a DC of 13 + Charisma bonus. If she had Heighten Spell and wanted to heighten it using a 4th- or 5th-level spell slot, it would have a full-round action casting time, but would count as a 4th- or 5th-level spell and have a DC of 14 + Cha bonus (for a 4th-level spell) or 15 + Cha bonus (for a 5th-level slot).

For (2), you can't apply Heighten Spell to a spell at no cost: any increase to the effective spell level of the spell must be tracked and paid for by using a higher-level spell slot, above and beyond any other spell level increases from the other metamagic feats.
Example: A 15th-level wizard has Quicken Spell. If he prepares a quickened fireball, that requires a 7th-level spell slot (fireball 3rd level + quicken 4 levels). The spell's DC is still 13 + his Int bonus because it's still just a 3rd-level spell, even though it's in a 7th-level spell slot. If he also has Heighten Spell, the spell is not automatically heightened; it still counts as a 3rd-level spell and has the DC of a 3rd-level spell. If he wants to increase the quickened fireball's effective level with Heighten Spell, he needs to use an even higher level spell slot than the adjusted spell level from the Quicken Spell feat. Increasing the fireball's effective spell level by +1 (from 3rd to 4th) requires using a spell slot +1 level higher (in this case, an 8th-level spell slot instead of a 7th-level slot); increasing the fireball's effective spell level by +2 (from 3rd to 5th) requires using a spell slot +2 levels higher (in this case, a 9th-level spell slot instead of a 7th-level slot).

Another way to look at (2) it is to add Heighten Spell first, then other metamagic feats. Continuing the above example, you'd first heighten the fireball to a 4th-level spell, then quicken it, which requires an 8th-level spell slot (fireball 4th level + quicken 4 levels). Or first heighten the fireball to a 5th-level spell, then quicken it, which requires a 9th-level spell slot (fireball 5th level + quicken 4 levels).

(Heighten Spell is a weak metamagic feat and has limited utility when combined with other metamagic feats.

Question - For the purposes of Furious spell if a spell is heightened what is considered the original level of the spell?

I originally thought the heightened level as that is what heightened seemed to do but then after talking to a couple people I changed my mind. THEN after reading the FAQ, specifically "It lets you use a higher-level spell slot for a spell, treating the spell as if it were naturally a higher level spell than the standard version." and "Another way to look at (2) it is to add Heighten Spell first, then other metamagic feats." I was kinda sorta back to my first interpretation.

Thoughts?

Specifically how much damage would a Furious Heightened (5) Magic Missile do?

Hello all, what is your take on the interaction of these 2 things.

Lifesurge:

Lifesurge
Price +2 bonus

This special ability can only be placed on melee weapons. A lifesurge weapon boosts and sustains the wielder’s life energy while he is in the throes of combat. The wielder gains a bonus on saving throws against necromantic effects—including the ability damage, ability drain, and energy drain powers of the undead—equal to the weapon’s enhancement bonus. In addition, whenever the wielder receives temporary hit points from any source, he adds the weapon’s enhancement bonus to these temporary hit points; this does not stack for temporary hit points from multiple sources, and these points are lost if the lifesurge weapon is not being wielded.

In combat, the weapon’s critical threat range is doubled against undead; this does not stack with the keen special ability or Improved Critical. Whenever a lifesurge weapon confirms a critical hit against an undead creature, it erupts with 1d8 points of positive energy (2d8 for weapons with a critical multiplier of x3, 3d8 if it is x4); the wielder may choose to deal this as damage to an undead target or to absorb half this amount as healing, with the remaining positive energy dissipating.

Regenerative Stance:

Regenerative Stance (Ex): The barbarian can continually replenish her health. At the start of her turn, she regains 1 temporary hit point for every 4 levels she has (up to 5 hit points per round), but this cannot give her more than her maximum temporary hit points from rage. This is a stance rage power. A barbarian must be at least 4th level to select this rage power.

I am unsure. Would you gain the extra temporary hit points from the Lifesurge enchantment each round that your temporary hit points regenerate vie Regenerative Stance?

What do you think the effects of an Anti-Magic field cast to cover a vampire that had been forced into gaseous form due to HP loss would be?

Silver Crusade

Hello brains trust. I have a Paladin (Sacred Servant) that likes to use the Paladin's Sacrifice spell to save his allies if necessary.

Are there any ways to help heal me if I drop below 0HP?

The Aegis is out as I have a different neck item. The Shawl is out as I have a cloak of resistance.

Heroes Defiance and the Reactive healing feat will not work as I just used my immediate action to cast Paladin's Sacrifice.

Are there any other items (hopefully slotless) or dips into other classes that give some ability to heal when dropping below 0? They would most likely need to be something based off of character level as a very small amount of healing is probably not worth the investment.

I know abilities like Diehard are a thing but that is very perilous, being so close to death but still a target.

I do play PFS so a wayfinder upgrade maybe?

Silver Crusade

Hello all. I was once playing a game of PFS with a guy who had a barbarian with quite high DR and I seem to recall that he had a way to double his DR against the first hit he took each round.

Does anyone know how to do this?

I could be remembering it wrong as this was quite a while ago now. I have a character in a home game who is building around being very hard to kill and this would be great for him.

Silver Crusade

When does the power take effect?

Agile Feet:
Agile Feet (Su): As a free action, you can gain increased mobility for 1 round. For the next round, you ignore all difficult terrain and do not take any penalties for moving through it

I read it as only functioning the round AFTER you activate it but I think this is silly. How do others play this?

Silver Crusade 2/5

These feats all give you a Cohort that is your level -3 with some restrictions on what classes they can be. Given that PFS has banned most things like this in the past has this been an oversight? I know the character is your level -3 but this seems like a massive power boost to a party.

You could now all have your improved familiar for a single feat with no need for levels in Wizard etc that can do sooooooooooooooo much more than a familiar.

Am I missing something here?

Can a Zen Archer, using Wisdom to attack with a bow instead of Dexterity, add his Wisdom to his CMB when using the Ranged Trip feat?

Zen Archery(Ex):
At 3rd level, a zen archer may use his Wisdom modifier instead of his Dexterity modifier on ranged attack rolls when using a bow.

Ranged Trip(Combat, Targeting):
As a full-round action, you can attempt to perform a trip combat maneuver with any ranged weapon at a –2 penalty. Add your Dexterity modifier to your CMB in place of your Strength modifier and apply range penalties to your combat maneuver check, doubling the penalties from range increments. If your target is more than 30 feet away, you take an additional –2 penalty. If the trip attempt is successful, the target also takes damage as if you had made a successful attack with that weapon. You can't be knocked prone by failing the trip attempt.

Does an Unseen Servant block the movement of enemies trying to move through it's square?

Silver Crusade

Hey all, I understand this has probably been asked many times in the past. I seem to recall a way to temporarily increase my caster level from a consumable item. The items I am aware of are
1 - Shaman's Paint (Looking for items like this, cheap and nasty)
2 - Orange Prism Ioun Stone
3 - Strand of Prayer Beads.

I am not after class features or anything else like that, I just cannot remember if there was 1 more item like the first one on the list. Oh and I am aware of the extra reagents from the alchemy manual, I am specifically after a way to buff caster level for Magic Vestment and Greater Magic Weapon.

Level 12 Abyssal Bloodrager (Rageshaper) with Strongjaw spell
Claws Base 1d8 then Enlarge Person to 2d6 then Strongjaw to 3d6 then Bestial Aspect (Rageshaper) 3d8???

Silver Crusade

Hello all, i am hoping you can assist me. I remember reading somewhere an archetype or feat or something that changed a Paladin's Lay on Hands ability. The idea of it was that you picked someone to protect each day and then you would use your lay on hands on them as a move action BUT you could also only use it on yourself as a move action and never more then once in a round.

My search FU has failed me, i cannot find it anywhere. Does anyone know what i am talking about or was this all in a dream?

Silver Crusade 2/5

Hey mate, what time zone is this in?

Silver Crusade

Hello fellow gamers.

I am trying to build a Nagaji Naga Aspirant for PFS and i have never played a druid before, or anything else that uses polymorph. I am a bit confused as to what i gain when i use the Naga form. I understand i gain the Strength, Con, Dex, movement, natural armor and bite attacks BUT what else do i gain from the form.

The ability says it is based off of Shapechange, a level 9 spell that includes other spells in it's description. The thing is none of the other spells in it's description include an Abberation as a possible type to change into.

Do i pick a base form of Naga(IE: Dark naga, Lunar Naga, Royal Naga etc) because as far as i can find there is no "True Naga" base form as referred to in the description of Naga Aspirant.

If so can i pick something like Royal Naga, a huge Abberation? I assume not as it has 5 bite attacks which seems a bit silly but if i do not gain anything else other then the bonuses listed above this is a very weak ability compared to basic wild shape.

Silver Crusade 2/5

Hello all, sorry if this has been covered but i have looked at a few posts and cannot find anything on what i am looking for.

In that additional resources it says all content in the Pathfinder Society Field Guide is legal for play BUT some of the factions in this guide do not exist any more. Can a new character i make now gain access to these prestige rewards in any way?

Silver Crusade

Hello all, I have a query about using the Bodyguard feat with reach weapons.

If you are using a reach weapon and standing behind an ally that provides cover from your attacks to your enemy, can you still make use of the bodyguard feat?

The cover provided by your ally makes it so that you are unable to make AoO's against that enemy BUT the bodyguard feat does not say you actually have to make an AoO. Is USING an AoO to attempt to aid another same as MAKING an AoO to attempt to aid another?

For instance, a gnome cavalier/battle herald/whatever else in one of my PFS games is riding around on a T-Rex mount with the reach combat evolution while wielding a longspear. Both have the bodyguard feat and the gnome has other abilities that add to it's aid bonuses. Whenever a creature attacks one of the party an almost auto bonus in the order of +8 is added to that AC.

I have no problem with this if it is legal but I am not convinced of the wording of bodyguard.

Silver Crusade

Hello Brains Trust.
I am looking to make a Shield Slamming Bull Rushing Fighter and am wondering if anyone has any advice on how to overcome the restrictions on Bull Rushing that state that I can only bull rush up to one size category larger than myself.

Are there any feats, items, cross class or archetype abilities etc that raise this limit?

Is there any items that, as a fighter type, I can use to enlarge myself thereby raising the size cap by one step? Things like a potion of enlarge or a wand are not really useful due to the 1 round duration of the buff.

This is for pathfinder society as well if that makes a difference.

Silver Crusade

Hello all, i am making a knowledge monkey with high Int and am wondering if anyone can advise me on ways to utilize this in combat.

The only benefits of knowledge skills in combat that i am aware of is the ability to identify monsters. I also will have Kirin Style and Strike to take advantage of the high int.

If there are any other obscure spells or feats etc related to knowledge in combat please let me know.

Silver Crusade

I have been looking at a muck around build for my lvl 2 alchemist/level 1 wizard and I think I am intending on taking him to 4 Alchemist(Mindchemist), 1 Wizard(Foresight school for Prescience), 2 Investigator, 4 Monk (Master of many styles, Ki Mystic and something of the sacred mountain(I think these all stack)) for a mad fun super skill monkey knowledge guy. Others have the combat covered so this seems fun.

This got me thinking. As I am dipping so many non Full BaB classes my combat suffers a LOT, what if I could design a character that dips heaps of full BaB classes to pick up things like level 2 ranger combat style feats etc?

Throw some ideas at me for a character that is not afraid to dip to create a fun and still effective martial type.

Silver Crusade 2/5

I have a Chronicle sheet that gives access to an elven burial shroud +1.

Cannot find it anywhere. Anyone know what it is and where it is from?

Silver Crusade

Hey all and thanks for any help on this.

I am looking to build a Lvl 1 Lunar oracle(Tiger companion) and from then on going Zen archer monk. Can I, when taking levels in monk, select the +1/2 to oracle revelation favoured class bonus?

I have searched the forums and rules but cannot find anything that says this is not viable. If this is true I can, with the help of boon companion, have a lvl 1 Lunar oracle/lvl 11 Zen archer with an effective druid level of 11 for the purposes of this revelation.... I think.

Silver Crusade

I am not greatly experienced at pathfinder and my first PFS character is an Oradin (Life Oracle\Paladin) that i took because we always seemed low on healing but i still wanted to be a melee type guy.

My character is currently lvl 3 Angel Blooded Aasimar(Paladin 2|Oracle 1) with Channel Energy as my revelation. I was planning on going to Oracle 3 to pick up life link and then paladin Hospitalier all the rest of the way. Now i have another idea and would like some feedback.

I am considering only taking the Oracle to 1(Gains the channel energy and opens up divine magic for wands etc) then Paladin to 4 with the hospitalier and Temple Champion archetypes. This gives me another channel pool and 1 cleric domain.

Ok, with that cleric domain i was going to take the Chivalry Inquisition to gain a bonded mount. Does this seem legal?

Then i was going to swap to Samurai Order of the star the rest of the way, thereby gaining 1/2 levels to my channel pools and my lay on hands.

Does this seem ok or will i end up with a very underpowered guy? There seems to be a lot of synergy here and i still get the mount, even 1 level earlier than a paladin i think. If it works that is.

Silver Crusade

Does the Kitsune's Kitsune Magic racial trait affect spell like abilities granted by the Magical Tail Feat?

Silver Crusade

There is a character concept I am working on but I am unsure of some of the mechanics of it. I have read a lot of forums today but thought I would check with the brains trust.

First cab of the rank is
1 - "If I have a level 1 Cleric - Theologian Archetype and select the Chivalry Inquisition will this give me an effective level 3 Mount at first level?"

Ok next question
2 - "If I am an Elf or Half-Elf and take a level in Oracle with the nature mystery and select the Bonded Mount revelation, then proceed to continually use my favoured class bonus to add +1/2 level to the effect of any revelation will my Mount advance at 1.5 levels per level?"

3 - What happens if I take the Cleric at 1 then cross class into the Oracle, will my Mount progression be 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12 etc as I gain levels?

4 - If I am a Half-Elf with multi-talented can I start as Oracle and once I have the Revelation continue to progress in a different class but still add the +1/2 effect on the revelation from the favoured class bonus?

This character is for Pathfinder Society FYI so only the standard Horse or Camel is available.

I guess another question is

5 - What if I take Cavalier and the Beast Rider Archetype? I am assuming this is a no go as the levels from Beast rider now would not stack with the other sources.

My final build is shooting for an Oracle 1 Natures mystery Bonded Mount, Samurai Order of the star 4, Cleric 1 Theologian Chivalry inquisition, Paladin 5 Hospitalier for a final Horse at level 17 with samurai and Paladin as the 2 favoured classes.

The Samurai's order of the star contributes at half pace towards the cleric channel energy and the Paladins Channel AND Lay on Hands.

Let me know what you think and if it seems legal.

Oh and I am aware that splitting Samurai Paladin Cleric and oracle is sub optimal, just trying to see how powerful a horse I can get. Could just go straight Paladin, Samurai, Oracle or Cavalier I guess, with the 1 level dip into cleric to pick up the extra 2 levels of mount.

Silver Crusade 2/5

Ok guys and gals, i am sure this has been asked many times as a quick search shows many other threads dealing with the same topic. My problem is that i cannot seem to find one that actually gives a definitive answer to the question "Does a familiar gain feats other than their starting ones?"

It seems that the rules MAY be read that they do, if you really really want to read it that way BUT as far as i can tell any common sense reading of the rules kinda almost make it seem like they don't.

This being Pathfinder SOCIETY, in which my limited experience makes me think rules questions should be black and white, is there a definitive answer to this?

So long story short 2 questions.

1) Do familiars gain feats in line with thier HD progression? (which as far as i can tell RAW says they don't actually get)
2) Can you swap out there starting feats as per animal archive? (I think that is the name of the book, i do not have it.

Hello all, this is my first post on any Pathfinder forum.

I am trying to find ways to gain a morale bonus to attack so that i can take advantage of the Zest for Battle trait.

I know of spells such as Bless and Heroism etc and the Flawed green ioun stone of some sort, any others out there?

I also know of the Flagbearer feat but as a 2 handed weapon guy i don't see how i can work this into my character.

This is for an Angel-Blooded Aasimar Paladin just fyi.
