Hey all, sorry I've been absent the past few days, I've had the flu. Hopefully I'll be feeling well enough either later tonight or tomorrow to finally make a post, in the meantime, please bot me if necessary.

Attacks:
Unarmed Strike: Atk +5, Dmg 1d6+5, crit x2, blunt or piercing (because of cestus)

Slightly surprised at the way things developed, Griff pushes into the room so he has a clear space between himself and the wizard. "What's all this? You lyin' sack o' crap, who are you?"

Ready action: Charge if he casts a spell.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19

As Khasos pushes open the door, Griff peers over his shoulder. He puts his hand on Khasos' arm, ready to shove him aside and charge in if danger presents itself. "Careful, wizards get up to some strange stuff, or so I hear. You never know what we might find in here."

Griff has been standing quietly by the door this whole time. Meeting with lords and ladies is quite a bit outside his comfort zone. Now, with the chance to leave town and stretch his legs, even if only to travel to another of the small towns, his mood visibly picks up. "Alright, we should probably get goin' then."

He heads outside, not waiting to see if he is followed.

I'm going to assume that whoever had healing spells left last night used them on me to heal that last 4 hp before we went to bed. Hope that's alright.

"Uh, it was me and Tyrek that went and took care of Vghotan. He had a couple pieces of paper on him. I think Tyrek took 'em, maybe. I didn't see what they was though, coulda been anything." Griff looks over at Tyrek for confirmation.

"'Course, I had a few drinks in me already by that point, so I could be wrong. The damn goblin stuck me and I was kinda pissed off about the whole thing at the time."

Griff wolfs down his meal with glee. "That Cap'n Thomas is a pretty good guy, payin' our tab like this. Hopefully Lord Ulbric is half as generous as he is; we could make some pretty good coin around here."

He notices the jealous looks being thrown his way and breaks into a wide, taunting smile. "What's the matter fellas? Breakfast not too appetizing this mornin'? Mine's delicious!" He picks a piece of bacon up to his face and inhales deeply, putting on a show of enjoying the smell. Popping it into his mouth, he licks his fingers while staring across the room at the other mercenaries the whole time. "Absolutely delicious!"

When he's finished his meal he pushes the plate away and leans back, rubbing his stomach. "We ready to head out? Should probably get goin' before Ulbrec gets impatient and decides not to look too kindly on our little adventure yesterday."

As the guards begin dragging Chiglet off to the stockade, Griff shrugs unconcernedly. No skin off my ass if they execute the damn thing. Khasos seems to have grown attached though, so hopefully for his sake they'll let the little rat go. He thumps Khasos on the back and begins heading back to the tavern. "Come on, I'm sure he'll be fine till tomorrow. We'll get'im out first thing, I promise. A drink 'er two will perk you up, then before you know it the sun will be up and that sniveling little rat will be free to cause mayhem again." He grins, attempting to be reassuring.

Walking back to the Salty Dog, he remembers the two guardsmen they had rescued earlier and the promise of free ale, and a smile grows slowly across his face.

whiskey: 1d100 ⇒ 68

As Griff reaches for another drink, he suddenly stops, his face turning (more) green. Leaping to his feet, he looks about wildly, trying to find a waste bucket or something similar. Spotting something in the corner, he lurches towards it but doesn't quite get there in time. "Oh oh, 'scuse me for a min-" Vomit spews across the floor as the big half-orc clutches the nearest piece of furniture to hold himself upright. Bent over with his back to the others, all they see is heaving shoulders and a prodigious amount of slimy fluid splashing onto the floor between his feet.

He stands up, spitting out the last remnants of the disgusting puke and wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. He turns around sheepishly. "So, uh, I don't s'pose you got a mop or something nearby?" He grimaces and spits once more. "First, though, I need to rinse out my mouth. How 'bout another shot o' that stuff? I know better'n to guzzle it now. Lesson learned, heh."

Griff's mouth waters as he gets a whiff of the potent alchohol. "Well now, that's a good drink if I ever had one! Smells a lot better than the usual swill I get at the tavern, that's fer sure!" He tosses his first back with a gulp and breaks into a fit of coughing at the unexpected potency of the drink. "Holy hells that's strong! I didn't expect that." He laughs cheerfully at himself and holds his cup out for another round, planning to sip this next one.

Griff grins at Nilah. "Don't worry, he might not understand common, but I'm sure he understands tone of voice. He's like a very ugly dog." He looks back at the goblin. "A VERY ugly dog." He falls into step beside her as they follow the dwarf toward the whiskey.

Agreed. Characters with an alias become actual characters. They seem to have more personality because of it.

Also before Khasos' post

Griff visibly perks up at the mention of whiskey. "That's the best idea I've heard all day! I ain't got nothin' against a drop er two o' the good stuff if it's on offer!"

As he steps up to follow Jorun into his home, he gives the bound goblin one last menacing glare. "Ye better tell my friends here what they want to know, or you'll find I have much less patience than they do. If I have to leave the comfort of a glass of whiskey to come help them get answers, you won't like what happens." He holds up one big fist in front of the goblin's face and then turns around, having already forgotten him in anticipation of having a drink.

Griff smiles innocently. "Well that wouldn't be so bad, would it? Boats are waterproof, after all." Have I ever come this far to take a leak? Doubt it, but not impossible. I've had some pretty entertaining nights. I think.

He quietly shuffles to the back of the group, trying to avoid the dwarf's gaze.

The big half-orc frowns down at his fiery friend. Sigh. "Alright. Let's go find the others. I remember hearing that these tunnels down here were dug out by smugglers and the like years ago, but they were caved in by Lord Ulbrec a while back. The goblins dug some of 'em out to get into town, but the tunnels collapsed behind 'em just before we came down here. Never were great engineers, goblins. Anyway, the only way to go is back where we came, so let's see if we can follow the others' tracks in the snow to see where they went."

Survival (untrained) to try following the tracks, and perception in case I can hear the sound of fighting.

Survival: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

/flex

Burning my ones on bluff checks. Griff lies with all the skill of a chocolate-faced kid who denies he ate the cookies lol.

In all honesty though, I'm aware that for the most part Griff's best action is to just punch stuff. I'll take Dirty Fighting at level 2, which opens up Improved [combat maneuver] for martial flexibility, but I'll have Brawler's Flurry for a second attack so I'll still mostly just use flexibility on Weapon Focus unless I feel the need to wrestle some goblins or something lol.

Griff spits on the corpse crumpled at his feet. He's mumbling something about "lucky little bastard" and "exterminate the lot of 'em" when Tyrek swaggers up. He rolls his eyes at Tyrek's joke before letting out a chuckle himself. "I know, I know. Gotta be more careful. Although we can't all just sit back and let others do the fightin', ye know!"

Happy at his witty (for him) comeback, he thanks Tyrek and idly rubs at his new scar, which is itching from the healing magic, and glances around the room. "Looks like the tunnel the little rats used to get in here is gone, we might as well head back up. You got his stuff? Good, some of that'll probably be useful.

"I'm sure the others have the rest of the goblin problem under control, so we should probably head back to the tavern to meet them. Wouldn't want to get lost looking for them, especially since they're probably already waiting for us back there." Griff nods confidently at his impeccable logic, certain he'd hidden the fact that he just wants a drink.
Bluff!: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0

Griff roars in pain as the sword slices into his thigh. Shaking his head as if refusing to feel the pain, he brings his voice down to a low growl. He realizes he can't take another hit like that and puts all his strength into one powerful blow, attempting to bring down the goblin before it attacks again.

Power attack again. (next level I'll get less repetitive, I promise :) )

attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22

That works for me, we seem to have a well rounded group, both mechanically and characterization-wise.

No danger of becoming One Punch Man after my attack on Vghotan lol. I think your 6-6-6 hexed me!

Griff shakes his hand, a little sore from the impact with the dog's jaw. Snarling incoherently, he charges down the tunnel. "You little bastard, I'm gonna put my fist through your face!" As he reaches the goblin he launches himself, putting his whole weight and momentum behind one powerful punch.

Charge attack on Vghotan. I have my standard +5 from BAB and Str, +1 weapon focus, -1 power attack, +1 Bless, +2 charge for a final attack bonus of +8. Damage is 1d6+5, +2 PA.

Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

If I can't charge:
If for some reason I can't charge him I'll double move so I'm next to him and ready for an attack of opportunity if he shoots another arrow. That AoO would be +6, 1d6+7.

I think my only rolls over 10 so far are for initiative lol.

Griff pulls up with a start, instinctively batting aside the lunging dog's attack. Roaring with anger, he cocks back his fist and steps into a heavy punch.

[Move] Martial Flexibility to get Weapon Focus (now 2 daily uses left, attack +6).
[Attack] Goblin Dog (power attack):

As Tyrek looks through the crates, Griff casually leans on a longspear and munches on an apple he had picked up from those strewn about the floor. Taking the proffered potion, he nods his thanks and slips it into a pocket. "This could come in handy later. Never know when the little bastards might get in a lucky shot."

Peering into the darkness of the cavern, he motions for Tyrek to get behind him. "Stay back a bit, I can see better'n you in the dark down here. Maybe if it hears me stumblin' around it won't notice you as much." He tosses the half-eaten apple aside and takes a few experimental stabs and sweeps with the longspear before shaking his head and dropping that too. Creeping into the cavern, he tries his best to stay quiet and unseen.

Griff doesn't take any of the weapons either, just the potion Tyrek hands to him.

Fantasynamegenerators.com is fun. There's usually something that you can at least adapt into what you need if you don't find it exactly. They have some good ones and some hilariously bad ones. Icky Vanguardians to the rescue!

Considering most of our backstories The Abandoned is apt, but I'm not sure if it's a great name for a heroic group of adventurers. Some variation of The Shivering Brothers works too, since we're in Icewind Dale lol.

"One goblin? Ha!" Griff snorts. "I can take one goblin in my sleep!"

He cracks his knuckles and heads into the warehouse alongside Tyrek. Looking down at his companion, he mutters under his breath. "Just try not to light this place up again, alright? We just put the damn fire out, let's not have to do it twice in one night." Besides, he thinks, we'll have enough problems chasing goblins around underground without smoke and fire to deal with.

Griff's eyes light up at the thought of having town guards in his debt."Yer right, you could'a been in a lot o' trouble if we didn't come help. That's gotta be good fer a round o' drinks or two, right?" He licks his lips in anticipation.

He "accidentally" kicks the last goblin as he walks by, then stops suddenly. "Wait, you said they jumped out from inside the building? Maybe we should go check in there to see what they were up to." Looking over to Khasos, he asks, "You can understand him right? What does he have to say about it? And who is that Volgnslug guy or whatever his name is?"

As he's asking these questions, he begins roughly going through the goblins' pockets looking for anything worth taking.

Knowledge(local) check to see if I know anything about the building in question, such as what it's used for or who owns it.

"Hey, these two guards are still breathin'!" Griff kneels down and slaps them lightly across the face, trying to wake them up.

Noticing the fire growing out of control, he looks back and forth between the unconscious guards and the blazing warehouse, and decides that preventing the fire from spreading is a higher priority. Running to the fire, he begins to help Tyrek and Tuva put it out.

I'm not sure whether he's strong enough to just pick up a water barrel and start pouring or he needs to find some buckets.

The one you attacked in the surprise round is the only one still standing. We're both engaging it now, so I assume you and I are flanking it and Khasos either has shot at it or is still waiting for an opening.

No problem. Griff whispered to Khasos that they should try to catch one alive if possible but I didn't actually specify that I was making a non-lethal attack, so that's my fault. In the future we'll assume the attack is lethal unless I specifically say non-lethal.

Glancing down at the goblin at his feet to make sure it is still breathing, Griff snarls at the last one standing, "Yer next, short stuff!" Realizing it probably doesn't understand his feeble attempt at an insult, he shrugs and circles around so he's on the other side of it from Khasos, then punches savagely at it's oversized head.

I'm attempting to give Khasos a firing lane (move), and then attacking it if it's still alive (standard).

I have a +3 initiative, which gives me 21. I'm still in the same order so it doesn't matter for now lol. Also, I'm not sure if I made it clear in my last post but I wanted to do nonlethal damage so we could ask the little bugger about his boss later. I have no penalty for nonlethal unarmed attacks so attack and damage is the same, he's just knocked out instead of dead. :)

I'm going to go ahead and assume that doesn't work. I do the following whether the battle begins or not (unless they somehow still don't notice me).

When he notices that he is able to hide from precisely nobody, he lets out a roar and charges the nearest one, intending to knock it out of the fight as quickly as possible.

Actions:
Use Martial Flexibility to get Weapon Focus (unarmed) for 1 minute, which will set my unarmed attack to +6, with 1d6+5 damage.

Move closer to the nearest goblin, trying to open a charge lane while staying out of the way of any ranged attacks from Khasos and the others.

Griff pauses for a second when he notices the orange glow. "Fire? How does a town covered in snow catch on fire?" He picks up speed as he comes to a realization: with this wind, there is a very high chance of embers blowing onto neighbouring buildings. "Come on, we gotta put that out 'fore the whole damn town goes up!"

His long strides begin to separate him from the others, but he slows to let them keep up, knowing he'll be useless fighting this thing alone.

I'm fine with no maps. Griff won't be doing aoe's or anything like that so the only concern would be flanking and that type of stuff, which I'm sure we can figure out from descriptions rather than a map.

At hearing Khasos' whistle, Griff downs his ale and lurches to his feet. "I'm comin'! Don't start the fight without me!"

Outside the door he staggers to the nearest snowbank and scoops up a double handful to slap onto his face. "Ugggh! Ok, I'm awake, I'm sober, I'm awake!" He looks around to see which way the others went and follows, now with a briskness to his step.

Unlikely as it sounds, even Griff is getting bored sitting around in the tavern all day every day. Unless, of course, it's just that his coin running low is making him a little edgy.

"I'm startin' to think that's not a bad idea" Griff smirks at the bartender, who looks uneasy every time Tyrek mentions fire. "If a little 'accidental' fire brought this place down ye think they'd have to let us go inta town, right? I'm sure there's lotsa fun to be had if we could just find it."

He drains his mug and hefts his (very light) coin pouch with a frown. "Hey! Another! Where the hell is that barmaid?" He thumps his meaty fist on the table while holding up his now empty mug. "We been here long enough ye think she'd learn to stay close by fer me refills."

A mini-adventure sounds great to me. I imagine it goes something like, Griff and Tyrek in a tavern. Tyrek burns down the tavern. They bail. Tyrek for obvious reasons, Griff because he doesn't want to be around when they try to stick someone with the bill for repairs.

They run into Nilah on the road.

Would she approach strangers asking for help? Or is there some event that would make sure they didn't just pass each-other on the road?

Probably not outright ask for them to come along, but she would be asking everyone under the sun if they've seen a person with a description. Some people she asks show their prejudice, Griff and Tyrek notice this and decide to help a bit more than just answering her questions. As she's becoming hopeless in her search she would hesitantly accept the help.

This sounds great. One thing Griff definitely won't like is people dismissing Nilah just because of who/what she is, and that would probably lead to him volunteering his help. He doesn't have much in the way of responsibilities, so it wouldn't really be going out of his way to spend time helping find someone.

Also, if he was around when Tyrek burned down a tavern, he'd originally be a little freaked out but later find it hilarious. He'd definitely want to get on the good side of someone who could do that. :)

With our limited melee presence, I'm considering switching Cinder Dance for Touch of Flame (I'm terrible with weapons) so I can contribute on the front lines some. It's a supernatural ability so it won't provoke. I could drop wisdom for strength as well, which would definitely fit the concept.

Any thoughts on that idea?

GM alright with me making any changes?

As the only full melee in the group, I wholeheartedly endorse anyone who wants to step up and take a few of the shots I would have. :)

Woot Woot!

Thanks for picking me, this is gonna be fun!

I have some ideas for connections to other party members; we can use all or none of them, depending on those players ideas for their own characters. All this is presuming your characters can get past the usual issues people have with half-orcs of course, being an outsider that has to earn his place in the group can be fun too.

Thadaenn Wyrmbeard: This one should be easy. Met in a Luskan tavern, now they're drinking buddies (or rivals, a half-orc and a dwarf would probably take a few swings before they came to respect each other).

Tuva Black Raven: Probably something simple like they struck up a conversation while he was looking at (maybe buying, but probably not, that would mean less money for ale!) her scrimshaw pieces. The fact that she feels like an outcast would resonate with him: since he left home he's been looking for a place to fit in but can't because half-orcs usually get treated like crap.

Khasos Sky-talker: A fellow half-orc! That alone would be enough for Griff to feel more comfortable with Khasos, and although I'm not sure where they would have met, I'm sure they'll become fast friends.

Tyrek: Tyrek spent a few years settling into society after escaping slavery, maybe he met Griff at some point and they keep randomly meeting in different towns as they travel different but parallel paths. "Tyrek has a fiery and sometimes volatile personality" tells me that maybe they ended up on the same side in some sort of fight somewhere.

Nilah Sevrom: Like with Tyrek, maybe they met on the road to Luskan? It's unlikely they would be close friends, but certainly possible they would be cordial acquaintances, so to speak. If nothing else Griff would be interested in her unusual appearance, since he hasn't seen many tieflings.

Like I said, we can use all or none of this. Griff probably wouldn't be good friends (yet) with any of you, but a budding friendship and respect of your abilities and what you've gone through is certainly likely.

Sounds good!

This is Lekkric's entry, a half-orc brawler. Everything is in the alias.

Griff looks up from his mug with a frown. When he sees a brimming mug of foaming ale held out to him his face lifts immediately, gesturing to the empty seat next to him. After having a few more ales pushed his way he leans back and begins to open up to his new friend.

"Well, I’ve spent me whole life on the road. I ain’t never been one for a normal day job: don’t like bein’ tied down, y’see. It’s almost a routine by now; I get to a town, do a few odd jobs fer who needs it, don’t show up a few times ‘cause I’m hung over or still drunk, an’ I get fired. O’course this jus’ pisses me off so I blow me money in the tavern, get into a scrap ‘er two, an’ get run outta town after I beat up a few too many glass-jawed locals. That’s what happened in Luskan, and why I’m here in this little hole of a town. What's it called? Targos? It's as good a place as any, an' better'n most fer hidin' from those that got a beef with ye.

Where’m I from? Crap, ain’t you a nosy one? Didn’t I just tell ye I’m from everywhere? Oh well, s’long as you keep the ale comin’ I can keep the tale comin’. Heh, that rhymed. I should be a bard or somethin’. This dunghole could use one, it’d liven the place up. What was I sayin’? Right, me mom and dad was both half-orcs like me – I didn’t come about from no rape or nothin’ like you hear about sometimes. Anyways, it was a long way from here, a place called Vaasa, you ever heard of it? No? Well, like I said, it’s a long ways off. Pretty much due east of here, I think. Not sure, I took what you'd call the "scenic route". Gets cold, but nothing like this place. Anyways, like I was sayin’, I been on the road since I was old enough to get away from me bastard father. You think I drink a lot? Ha! I can’t hold a candle to that old man, and I ain’t near as ornery a drunk as what he is neither.

So anyway, I left pretty young – headed south, like any sane person would’a done. It’s hard to find a place to fit in, though, fer a half-orc like meself. I must’a passed through near every city and town on the whole of Faerun before I made me way to Luskan. I can’t even name ‘em all, it’s been so many. The big ones, o’course, like waterdeep and neverwinter. Memnon, Calimport, I been to ‘em all. And now I’m here. Sitting in a creaky little tavern in a cold little town, drinking warm ale while the wind howls outside the door. Hells, gimme another ale, a story like mine’d drive anyone to drink."

@Tarak: Personally, I'd love to see a cleric (or even life oracle, for that matter) with a strong/er emphasis on healing and dealing with the Undead.

As to the weapon, choose what fits/suits better as my druid can support the frontline alongside the "tank" character (she uses both melee and ranged weapons), as well as our trusty rogue.

Would you be able to fix up your character's stat sheet and backstory so we can get a better picture of your guy (at level 3) and specifically for our game? It helps with the selection process and getting a better feel for your character and how he could fit in with the existing party. Thanks!

Sorry I had planned to finish it yesterday, but I got pulled away and couldn't get back to it until just now. Almost everything in the spoilers was updated, including the background and personality, it's just the stat block at the top that needed an overhaul.

As for having more emphasis on healing/undead, He'll be completely capable on that front. I made him a battle cleric kind of out of necessity. His 3 highest stats are 15, 14, 14, so he's not going to have a huge Wis to start so I figured I'd toss them in wis, str, and con to have a cleric that can fight as well as cast. His personality is such that he wants to wade in and fight, but in actuality his normal cleric duties will be taken care of first and he'll come in swinging when it's just mop up time. :)

I'll have the crunch finished tonight, and as always if you have any requests or questions just let me know.

Almost forgot:
2d8 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2
edit: ouch. Any worry about Tarak stepping up into the battle can be put to rest lol.

Thanks

PS. I find that my skills at writing a backstory aren't quite as strong as my actual in-game writing, so please take a look at this game to see a (completely different from Tarak) character I'm playing: Morley Hastings. He's a little over the top, but very fun to play. :)

@Tarak: Yes, we're using the Golarion Pantheon, so you should be okay with Gorum. It's only Nethys that is the difficulty. As Nethys is no longer answering prayers, Clerics of Nethys will not receive spells or domain powers immediately. I'm certain we'll learn more about why this has happened as the game progresses and the story unfolds.

My character has taken a level in Cleric (Devout Pilgrim) and worships Azata Empyreal Lord Sinashakti. Seka has the Luck and Travel Domains. If your character is accepted into the game, I'm sure we could work together to ensure bases are covered (and no toes are stepped on) as I am going to make Seka the secondary/backup healer in game. Having more healing in game is never a bad thing. ;)

That sounds good. Tarak has Chaos and Glory domains, so they will likely be different enough characters both mechanically and personality-wise that there won't be any bumping heads. The way he's set up now he uses a reach weapon, but I'm wondering if it might be better to just grab a normal 2 handed weapon and step right up into the thick of things if there's only one full-time frontliner.

Hey, Lekkric18 here, this is my submission for this game. A battle cleric who can buff everyone up, wade in with his glaive, and then patch everyone up after we're done smashing heads. He's got 1 level of fighter for proficiencies and feats, but he's a cleric first and foremost.

I copy-pasted the stats over from a different game that never got going for format purposes, so I have to change a lot, but the essence of the character is there now. His primary motivation is to prove himself to his overachieving family (who are all also priests of one sort or another) by spreading the worship of his god. That might be a problem if his god is dead or missing, but anything easy isn't worth doing, right? :)

Also, is there anything I should know about the gods that's different from standard PF? He's a cleric of Gorum, does he exist or is there a different pantheon or something? Are there still gods to worship?
