I was level 10 (r2/w7/cleric1) up until yesterday, but we took on a bigger bite of "this-is-fun...uups!" than we could chew. The wizard we faced (and we really wanted to) was apparently level 17 or higher according to the spells he used. The confrontation was a tight one and one to remember... The DM later said we got him twice down to 1 and 3 hit points, so with a small amount of luck in damage rolls we would have won (I just love Orb of Force). But in the end we lost and now I´m back to level 9. ![]()
![]() Did I get this right? My ranger-wizard has a) Dex 17(+3), b) Studded leather +4, c) Ring of Prot. +4, d) Bracers of Armor +2. 1. His AC is 24 = no bonus from Bracers? Flat footed 21, vs. touch 17, vs. incorporeals 13. 2. He casts Mage Armor: His AC remains 24. Flat footed 21, vs. touch 17, vs. incorporeals 17? ![]()

Sure, here´s some backround on my character and the setting we game in. The world is largely of DM´s own making with bits and pieces from other settings, but for reference consider Mystara/Hollow World. A world where Drow are an infamous race of legend, thought to be extinct for hundreds of years.
Str 16, Dex 17, Con 12, Int 19, Wis 15, Cha 5 (all thrown dice, no mods btw)... My drow is arrogant and self confident. He knows there is no one better than him, all other races are inferior. So, 98% of the time he does not even wear a hood to mask his dark elven features. He revels in people screaming and running away when confronted. He does not shy away from combat either be it spell battle or hand-to-hand, believing him to be the winner - come who may.
Problems... well, we started at level 3 and still standing, so no major problems encountered yet =)
I have the Daylight Adaption feat, and from 2 levels of ranger Combat Style: Two Weapon Fighting and Favored Enemy human.
From one encounter way back he managed to aquire himself a bodyguard - a shield guardian. Needless to say, his confidence/arrogance in h-t-h combat has increased since... ![]()
![]() In Complete Guide to Drow it is stated, that we have spell resistance of 11 + class level. I have made my character based on this book. In Plot & Poison: Guidebook to Drow it reads 11 + character level. In PHB it doesn´t really say anything and if I´m correct DMG doesn´t clarify a creatures spell resistance total either. My drow is multiclassed ranger 2 / wizard 7 / cleric 1.

![]() In Encyclopaedia Arcane Necromancy (p.40) is the Death Touch feat, but it´s description is a bit confusing. It´s listed under Feats; "By making a succesful melee touch attack..." but the description ends with "both the use of this spell and the touch attack are considered a single standard action". Where is the spell Death Touch, I haven´t found it. If there is one, that would explain the above. One could either use the feat or the spell. If there is no spell, then please someone explain the description. I´m level 10 now, so using this feat kills quite easily already (damage d6/caster level, if greater than current hit points of victim it dies immediately) and there are no restrictions in using this feat. Sorry. The metamagic feats can´t be used to alter a spell being cast from a scroll, wand or other device. If your cleric casts mass inflict wounds as a spell and had this feat, then he would be able to target just his zombies and stay invisible. How about if the cleric has the metamagic feat Area Control (found in Ultimate feats)? Area Control lets you select certain spaces under the area and declare that they are not to be affected. With this feat a wizard can slam a fireball dead center to a melee and declare all his/hers allies not to be affected. ![]()

The halfling steals the pie. c) The strongest party member could use a 10-ft ladder to pin the orc to the wall (and the halfling steals the pie) Basically just get a halfling in the party, for sure he´ll get the pie somehow... ![]()

Attacks of Opportunity: Attacking unarmed provokes an attack of opportunity from the character you attack, provided she is armed. The attack of opportunity comes before your attack. An unarmed attack does not provoke attacks of opportunity from other foes, as shooting a bow does, nor does it provoke an attack of opportunity from an unarmed foe. You provoke the attack of opportunity because you have to bring your body close to your opponent. “Armed” Unarmed Attacks: Sometimes a character or creature attacks unarmed but still counts as armed. A monk, a character with the Improved Unarmed Strike feat (page 83), a spellcaster delivering a touch attack spell, and a creature with claws, fangs, and similar natural physical weapons all count as armed. Note that being armed counts for both offense and defense. Not only does a monk not provoke an attack of opportunity when attacking an armed foe, but you provoke an attack of opportunity from a monk if you make an unarmed attack against her. Unarmed Strike Damage: An unarmed strike from a Medium- size character deals 1d3 points of damage (with your Strength modifier, as normal). A Small character’s unarmed strike deals 1d2 points of damage. All damage is subdual damage. Unarmed strikes count as light weapons (for purposes of two-weapon attack penalties and so on). Dealing Normal Damage: You can specify that your unarmed strike will deal normal damage before you make your attack roll, but you suffer a –4 penalty on your attack roll because you have to strike a particularly vulnerable spot to deal normal damage. ![]()

Of course faith is the key word in being a cleric or any other praying thingie. I think praying/worship "out of fear and/or hatred of something" doesn´t really count as being "in faith". Male drow live in fear of female drow and so they do whatever it takes to make their lives a bit easier. Even worship deities. The same goes for todays IRL priests; some do it for true belief, most for the money/fame/tradition "i´ve done/my father did this for the past 30 years, why change now?"... ![]()
![]() Is it more difficult to take Cleric (or other class needing "true faith") as a second or subsequent class than others? My TE level 9 ranger/necromancer had a "near death experience" (quite a rush for him, by the way) due to a few spectres draining him of 8 levels. The circumstances were such that (and knowing a thing or two about spectres) he found his only solution to be in praying for "divine intervention" for his salvation.
My GM thought this through and came to the conclusion that it was possible. Lucky for me, although the price was quite high... So, now I´m level 10 w/ cleric 1. I quess my basic question is, is it just fine to take cleric as a second class, or does it require some more meaningful event in one´s life to be able to do so?

I had a Blighter once. My DM ruled him to be - in a word - quite useless in regards of magic while in cities for a long time (although he had other "suitable" qualities for city adventure as in being a lycanthrope).
