Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Im actually contemplating playing a dwarf. I dont usually like them in Pathfinder for optimization reasons. That sounded a bit munchkinny, but really, they just dont fit alot of classes due to racial stats.

Anyway, I thought id prefer to still play a pirate, but was wondering if he has to be identified as such? Alot of the class could just as easily be seen as simply a dare devil with a flair for theatrics. Kinda like a Star Lord with a flintlock.

This got me thinking about characters like that Dwarf companions from Dragon Age, and the champion Graves from League of Legends, and how id like to play something along that archetype.

Might I be able to play a pirate who wields a musket instead of a pistol and cutlass?

Gil did you ever fight with the Dragoons? You could know both me and Grigor that way.

ill admit I havnt looked at everyone backgrounds yet, since im wrestling with whether to stick with Gil or try something else for this game. Is it in your character bio that I will find these Dragoons?

Agreed, though I like there to be room for dashes of silly as well.

A big question for me is what our fair DM thinks of the elven background this character has. Will they be representative of all elves in general, or should I rewrite them as simply a large nation of xenophobes?

Gil is basically a mercenary, going from one job to the next, always looking for an easy score. At the same time however, he thrives on conflict and battle, and despite his insistence to the contrary, is drawn to the role of "the hero". Basically his instinct is to play it safe, but he longs to show off and prove himself superior. Drawing from anime, hes kindof a Tsundere character, except when he say "Yeah, ok, I saved you, its not like I like you or anything." he wholeheartedly means it.

Oh, and hello everyone.

I was in that campaign too, Giltharon - I was Mandus, the friendly lizardfolk necromancer.

Haha, I was wondering if id see anyone else from that game in here. About my questions though, how do you do selection for this game?

YES!, another opportunity to play Dungeon World! The PBP this character im posting on was in, sadly fizzled due to players not having time, but I really loved how your characters actions werent as restricted as they can sometimes be in Pathfinder.

Seeing that writing sample added some extra excitement, pretty darn wonderful writing.

How are you doing character selection? Is it just first come first served like it sorta looks in this recruitment thread? Is there still room.

Im not sure if I want to play this character again or go for something else. Is Pirate even allowed?

Could you elaborate on skinwalker? Seen it mentioned here and there, but never really had the inclination to dig deeper. Im guessing its something about lycantrophy?

I can always use more games, so Im definitely interested, atleast until I hear the details ;)

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Awh shucks, somehow I suspected this would happen. Oh well, its a fact of life on these boards, nothing to do but wish you well, and hope to hear from you again sometime.

So long, and thanks for all the fi...gaming.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Gil simply snorted derisively at the halflings apparent music act, following Mandus. As Mandus stopped, he continued past him, but when it became apparent that he was the only one still going forward, he stopped, crossed his arms and scowled. "Can we get things moving?" He asked with obvious annoyance.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

"Some form of monstrous owl?" Gil said with a mixture of disappointment and contempt in his voice. "Not exactly what I was expecting."

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

"Well both paths are equally valid according to the stones." Gil said with a shrug, looking down either path in turn. "But if this Oak possesses any wits at all, one or both are sure to carry us towards her minions. Ofcourse Im stating the obvious, but just to be safe I thought it best to enlighten you all."

He paced back and forth a few times, weighing the information. "I would take the straight path. It goes directly where we are headed, and it would seem something waits down that path which will satisfy the Dwarfs deathwish." He looked at Skorabor, one eyebrow raised in a haughty, expectant expression, clearly waiting for his reaction.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

I read that as Jack and Jill O.o

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Deciding that sufficient testing of the stones had been performed by the others, Gil walked up and tentatively picked one off the ground. He it in his hands a few times, making sure to look suitably unimpressed. He was slowly but surely regaining his composure.

"So eager you are Mandus, forging ahead up front of the pack. At this rate ill be rid of my dept to you before the day is done." He called after Mandus, as he sheathed his weapon and sauntered after him.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

The Pirate

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Gil remained where he had been throughout, stunned uncharacteristically silent by the creatures presence. "Freewilled undead, nothing but trouble, nothing but death. Someone taught me that once...someone." Suddenly having a hazy flash of his past, he dropped his guard, his sword arm hanging limp at his side.

Just a life sign post. Gil doesnt really have much to contribute. He really dislikes non-mindless undead. The elves, though they employ necromancy, detest sentient undead, probably because they live longer than even they do ;)...well that and they usually are equally as megalomanic as the elves, and noone likes competition on that front.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Got logged out and didnt notice, so havnt been seeing updates. Its late so this will be a quick blip.

Gil kept his guard up, unwilling to trust the creature on its word. "Why are we humoring this beast? It speaks like a woman and looks to be in as horrible a state as those wolves and wraiths yesterday." He sneered at the elk as it looked at him. "You ask me, this is just this fool Oak speaking through her puppet."

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

As Mandus and Djack exchanged words with each other, and in Mandus' case, the elk, Gil was slowly backing up behind them. His eyes rested on the hulking beast, his cutlass gliding silently from its scabbard and into a ready position, held in front of him. "Isnt it enough that I have to endure the company of you people on a daily basis?" He hissed through clenched teeth. "Nothing good ever came of meddling with spirits, my people know as much. Raising the useless dead to be of some use, sure, but spirits...Nothing but trouble."

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

If Mandus had previously thought his travel companion shaken by what he was seeing, what happened next was enough to make him pause his whittling to stare at the elf. Despite the commanding tone of Djack, Gil quickly fumbled a stake from the pile and frantically whittled away like his life depended on it, seemingly not even realizing he was doing the bidding of a lesser being. No sooner was one stake ready than he had another in his hands, bark and splinters flying everywhere.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

"Blather on non-sensically!?" Gil sputtered, his eyes darting from the apparition to Djack and back several times. It was obvious he very dearly wanted to verbally, and likely physically assault the young man, but instead he continued to stare into empty space above the stone. Shaken out of his stunned composure by Mandus' question, he gave him an annoyed and surprised look. "I know for a fact that even the most pathetic vision counted amongst all these other supposed sentients infesting the world, wouldnt be able to miss this!!" He spat at Mandus, specs of spittle flying as he vented the anger Djack had triggered.

He looked at Skorabor and Horn, pointing into the empty space above the stone. "Tell me you atleast see it. Living underground and in the forests should atleast have afforded you THAT much."

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

"Does your lousy vision see what I see?" Gil asked, mouth agape and for once bereft of his usual air of confidence, as he gawked at the specter in front of him. His hand rested on the hilt of his blade, ready to be drawn, even as his mind told him it would likely be of no use.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

[In Robin Williams Irish Raccoon Voice]: WTF IS THIS S&@#???!?!

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Gil scoffed. "I thought I saw something move but there was nothing." He gave the dwarf a haughty look. "And if my sight, the gift of Da'asthyr himself saw nothing, then there was nothing."

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Gil was fuming, his scowl deepening, his eyes flaring with a murderous glint. "You pretentious whelp! Thinking you could best me? And with no weapon drawn. I should skewer you for your insolence!" He took a step closer, his blade connecting with Djacks hauberk with a soft tink.

Standing silent for a few long moments, his eyes finally broke contact with Djacks, instead moving to meet the gaze of Horn and Skorabor, both looking less than thrilled with his behavior. He looked back at Djack, a torn look on his face as he weighed his options.

Finally he put his blade away, turning to look at the stone with Mandus. "But I suppose I can find it in me to be merciful."

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Holding his blade to Mandus' throat as the lizard exited the tunnel, Gil slowly lowered it again once recognition set in. "Took you long enough." He muttered, before motioning towards the rune stone. "This have any meaning to you?" He asked, that ever present look of certainty that the answer would be no, written on his face.

As the rest of the motley crew came spilling from within the tunnel, he raised his cutlass again, this time aimed at the new man. "What is this then? More trouble I wager?" For a moment, he turned his head quickly towards something moving on the deer trail ahead, but seeing nothing, turned his attention back to the newcomer.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Sensing the new light source up ahead, Gil smothered his torch with dirt, before sheathing his blade. Edging further down the tunnel, he made sure his crawling was as stealthy as he could manage. "Dont want to get killed by some mongrel waiting at the end, not after surviving all this nonsense. Actually not period. Me, killed by one of them?" Despite his attempts at stealth, he couldn't help but snigger at the thought. "preposterous." He whispered to himself, before continuing onwards towards the light.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Holding his edged torch in front of him, Gil proceeded down the tunnel, intent on scouting ahead, and more importantly, putting distance between himself and the rather obvious hole behind him.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Hearing Mandus stop behind him, Gil looked back to see the lizards eyes glazed over, an eerie milky white, a faint ghastly glow lighting up his silhouette against the feeble light of the tunnel entrance. Barely waiting for Mandus to finish whatever magic he had wrought, Gil nudged him with his boot, almost a kick. "Hey, Mandus, stay by the entrance in case those other two actually manage to follow. We want this hole covered up behind us. Tell them that, think you can manage it?" Gils face radiated skepticism, but he nonetheless nodded at Mandus. "Good. I will try to scout ahead."

Turning back to the darkness, he squinted and frowned as his eyes availed him nothing. With an annoyed grunt, he tore a sizable bit of cloth from his shirt and wrapped it around the tip of his cutlass. He then got out his pistol, unloaded it and proceeded to cock and "fire" the contraption repeatedly, hoping the flintlock would set the fabric ablaze.

Hope you dont mind that bit of description Mandus, the juices were flowing so to speak.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

"Starlord? Legendary outlaw? You know what, forget it..."

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

"How could one so small make such an enormous mess of everything!?" Gil said, his low hissed whisper threatening to boil into full blown shouting, his cheeks quivering with rage. Taking a few deep breaths, he turned to his lizard companion "Mandus, send that think running out the barn, maybe they decide to chase it."

Running to the newly excavated hole, he looked back a moment. "For his own sake, that dwarf better have more wits about him than he lets on. At any rate, Im out of here." With that, he dove into the hole, crawling under the vines as fast as he could while avoiding staining his shirt too much.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Our party doesnt particularly have much similarity to them, but now that we are getting a human fifth, I cant help but get a strong Guardians of the Galaxy vibe.

Aaaaaaaah aaaahaaaaah aaahaaah!

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

I was more referring to the random gentleman who popped into our discussion thread.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

What just happened?

And Gil is like 6 foot 2, but carries himself in a manner that makes him look taller.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Squatting inside one of the stalls, Gils ears twitched as he heard the unmistakable sound of metal against wood. "Go ahead fool, give me a reason!" With practiced ease, he silently unsheathed his cutlass once more, readying himself to skewer the man if the dwarf wasn't able to change the fools mind. "Right in the throat, that always works. No screaming, just a soft gurgle and look of surprise." The hair at the back of his neck rose with excitement at the thought, as Gil contemplating not waiting and simply leaping out at the man. "No! Dont be an idiot. You are not like that fool John...or Smith...or any of those imbeciles who got impatient."

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

For some reason I thought Horn was in the barn as well.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

"This isnt working." Gil grumbled, looking from the vines to his already lightly chipped blade. "You keep talking about the woods halfman, how about you try doing something about thi...?

He cut off mid sentence as Skorabors voice carried inside the barn. "Ofcourse!!" He said with a scowl, looking around wildeyed. "Cover the bodies and hide, quickly!" He hissed, quickly pointing Mandus and Horn to the ones he wanted them to cover.

Not sure if need to roll, but Gil will look for something to throw over the horse corpse, like a big piece of canvas or whatever else might be in a horse barn. He will himself pick up one of the dead wolf men and hide in a stall, pointing the others towards whatever he might see they could use to hide the horse and other wolf man

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Diving inside the barn, Gil made straight for the hole, cutlass already in hand. As he started to hack at the briar wall blocking the path, he looked back at Mandus. "Make yourself useful and find something we can use to block the hole behind us."

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Springing to his feet, Gil looked around, double checking that noone was nearby watching them, then chuckled. "Works every time."

Grabbing Mandus by the neck of the jacket, he hauled the lizard to his feet, whilst brushing twigs off his own jacket with his free hand. "Ok, now back towards where the people are, and slip past behind them." He said, setting off in the direction where the mob had been.

Use Hold from Madcap Scheme to cross the street behind the mob

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Wouldnt it be likely that Skorabors belongings ended up in Gil and Mandus' looting spree? Gil would certainly give the room they fought in the other night a bit of attention, given the previous nights occupants and what transpired.

Coin: 5d10 ⇒ (4, 1, 1, 1, 2) = 9 Wow, out-looted by the lizard

Watching Mandus put on the jacket and stuff a childs toy of all things into its pockets, Gil released a genuine laugh, a long hearty one, his head craned back. "Just when I thought you couldnt look any stranger!" He continued to laugh as he ran to the backside of the building, away from the main street, looking for a window.

Assuming the likely outcome that there is a window facing the alley on the backside of the tavern:

Looking out the window to quickly scan for any townfolk stragglers who had yet to gather around the Witch hunter, he quickly paced back to Mandus. Taking a deep breath, he jumped in place, letting his arms dangle at his sides as he loosened his muscles. Exhaling slowly he craned his neck, eyes closed with a serene, almost meditative expression on his face. Then finally, the craning was rewarded with a loud snapping noise in his neck and his eyes flew open, a wicked grin splitting his face.

"Here we go."

Crazy Leap: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 3) + 2 = 9

Before Mandus had even a second to inquire, Gil scooped him off the floor, hurled him on his back like a sack of potatoes, and dashed towards the window. Time seemed to slow as the pair burst through the window in a glorious shower of glass, the sun reflexed in them in a shimmering haze of sparkles.

A roll of 9 gives me one Hold, which I use to "Grab something and pull it with you", namely Mandus. Pirates always land on something "improbably soft" when performing a Crazy Leap. Have at it DM :P

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Once Gil and Mandus get done and meet Skorabor

"Ofcourse theres a backdoor, never seen a tavern without one." Gil said dismissively. "Best bet is probably to head out the back, and then towards the mob. We stay out of sight and once they make for the tavern fire, we cross the road behind them."

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Discern Realities: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 4) + 1 = 7

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Gil has performed his fair share of "driveby" boardings, where the target ship is too well guarded to be worth fighting to take it. Instead, the crew form a "beachhead" on the deck, and then a number rush below deck and loot what they can. Usually, its performed as a sneak attack under cover of darkness, meaning the enemy has often just mustered for a fight when the pirates retreat with whatever the looters got their hands on. Its got its dangers, but usually is relatively safe and profitable.

Gil would enter each room going up, tear out drawers and rifle through cabinets, all rather quickly, taking obvious riches. If a door cannot be opened with one or two solid kicks, he moves to the next. This strategy, when going through ships cabins, means an average of about 15-20 seconds spent in a given one.

Gil wouldnt want to spend more than 2-3 minutes doing this, likely less given the situation. So if a room looks "obviously worthless" he will probably pass it over if the first couple of such rooms turn out to hold nothing of value

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

I kinda suspected, but somehow I just liked the idea of Mandus being a bit scatterbrained at times, so I decided to go for it -.-

Watching the skink slither up the stairs, Gil once more found him self questioning his commitment to the lizards survival. "Damn it all!"

Ignoring whatever their two allies were doing in response to his previous order to rush across the street, he dove across the room instead, following Mandus upstairs.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

"I said get it ready not light the damn lot now!!" Gil howled, rushing back down the few steps he had taken up the stairs, a longing pained glance at the stairs and the missed opportunities that may lie upstairs. "Gotta get out of here fast now, this place will go up in smoke like a campfire in no time!"

He tore the door open, satchel tugged under his arm. "Keep your heads low and hustle." He said over his shoulder in a more measured, yet hectic voice. Sticking his head out just enough to survey the crowd up the street, he waited, even as the fire took hold of the alcohol and started spreading in rapid bursts across the floor. "Wait....waaait..."

"NOW!"

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Madcap Scheme: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 4) + 1 = 9

Inclining his head towards the hole in the wall, Gil tossed the remaining bottles around the room, flammable liquids and shards of glass flying in equally generous amounts. "Whats this then?" He said, greed evident in his speech. Walking into the alcove, he picked the bones off the satchel, releasing a disgusted sneer as he realized what creatures they had originally belonged to. Swiping the satchel off the floor, he quickly strode back into the main room, riffling through the bags contents. "Hmmm, will have to see if this is worth anything later." He said with a bit of disappointment, then looked up and about the room. "Mandus, get some fire ready, ill take a moment to salvage some kind of score from this debacle."

Striding behind the bar, he proceeded to shovel anything of value into the satchel, then headed upstairs to make the rounds.

"Ive done the smash and grab hundreds of times, this wont take but a moment."

To give you a heads up DM, Gil will likely use his Hold to make the crowd not notice when he and the others slip across the road. Assuming ofcourse nothing else happens before that that might be better to use it on.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

So its Skorabor outside, door slightly open so Horn can talk through it, and Gil and Mandus in the middle of the room more or less, so I think we are good on everyone being able to easily talk.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Gil is inside though, so you cant talk to him either -.-

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

"I got a surefire way to draw their attention away from us." Gil said, smirking as he walked behind the bar and started breaking bottles of moonshine, the extra strong stuff. "We set this place ablaze, and while everyone scrambles to put it out, we slip away. Works every time."

Grabbing a handful of bottles, he walked to the innkeepers corpse, uncorking a bottle and beginning to empty its content upon it. He looked at everyone with a haughty expression. "What? Oh dont give me those looks, not that I care ofcourse. I'm sure the village will be fine, its just a little fire."

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Actually completely slipped my mind. I also still havnt gotten around to making a proper alias!!! This game is so lax with its rules set, I havnt had much reason to! Yeah, lets to with that excuse...

Increasing Charisma to 16 and acquiring the Flourish move. With Gils character, it was tempting to go for Merry Dance due to the insults aspect, he loves those after all, but Flourish is too good to pass up.

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Spout Lore: 2d6 + 0 ⇒ (2, 4) + 0 = 6

"Oh for the love of..." Gil hissed, diving into the nearest cover. "Not these idiots again." He peaked over his cover, catching the odd expression on the Slayers face. He sighed loudly. "I dont know if you are presently aware, but these, "people", the inquisitors, they are a branch of the military." He ducked back behind his cover. "Ive run into a few along the way, and none of them seem too fond of my kind. Not surprising really, I hear they are often in charge of the effort to stop elven excursions outside Da'asthyr." He got up slowly and began to move back towards the tavern. "The peasants may not care, or be easily fooled by a little disguise work, but the inquisitors always seem to realize what I am, probably anatomy classes or some such nonsense. At any rate, you are on your own."

With that, he ducked back inside.

Being off by 1, I figured I could say something like this that doesnt really define the Inquisition much. I just like the idea of Gil having someone that specifically targets him that he could run into from time to time (Running into elven war parties repeatedly would be a bit too coincidency, but Inquisitors are everywhere! And you never expect them!)

Male Elf Pirate Str: 9 Dex: 16 Con: 8 Int: 12 Wis: 13 Cha: 15

Indeed good dwarf indeed.

Standing above the corpse, still sneering and looking ready to stab it again, Gil looked up at Mandus' request. "With any luck someone will give me a reason to hurt them." He muttered, turning to follow Skorabor, his movements like those of an irritated feline.
