![]() It isn't evil in that you are giving a tough choice. That's what bad guys do... it's evil if you punish him for choosing the noble path. Does he have flying armor? Can he "iron man" it around the kid? I mean, let him choose to do the bad thing and need some redemption, but make it epic if he chooses to sacrifice himself. Maybe the pali does fall in the pit to hell and then take your player to the side and tell him about his noble act serving to have angels from his deity help him fight his way out (maybe a one off? Where the other players have to do something on this side to get him back? Very "Buffy"). Honestly, I don't think it is horrible to put them in a moral conundrum, only horrible if it is a no-win situation. ![]()
![]() I had this happen to my character. I loved it. My elf went from Chaotic Good to Lawful Evil (and then I pulled amnesia). I knew that I didn't design my character to be evil or lawful (and it hurt when I picked up my holy sword) but I embraced the new "emotions" and shift of conscious. My DM knew I would role-play it out and after a while he had it wear off because he wasn't into an evil game. Having an alignment shift is a unique opportunity to show off your role-playing skills and is not all that different than losing a hand. Eventually you may realize that you aren't the same and that you need to seek help (intervention of friends). Just like needing to seek regeneration for the lost hand, you will need atonement for the lost alignment. Have fun with it. Lawful doesn't mean you have to start policing yourself. Imagine if Jack Sparrow suddenly developed obsessive compulsiveness! ![]()
![]() I playtested this last weekend. I had a small meteor crash into the forest and the party investigated. Being level one, they fought goblins and a Gold and Black Bear (Black Bear with the Invincible template). It was a tough battle (the Bear focused on a goblin every once in a while) but when the last person struck I had the Mythic power transfer from the bear to them! Everyone was pretty jealous of her flowing hair and golden iris. Then they decided to touch the Minor Starstone themselves. I also had the metal of her Katana altered by the mythic blood from the bear. It changed from Steel to Elysian Bronze. Everyone finished that session really happy and proud from the challenge. ![]()

I could have written that more clearly. Ring Blade is the actual name of it (I looked it up) I selected Exotic Melee Weapon (Note: Not Two Handed) due to it being a ring and you having to deal with the strange balance, especially one handed. I chose 50gp arbitrarily. It could be 75 or 100 easily. The damage is actually taken from the Scythe. It is 1d6 small, 2d4 medium. The damage is slashing damage for obvious reasons. I chose a crit of x3 because I didn't want it to outshine either the scythe or the scimitar. It has too many special abilities to be a high crit range or max multiplier. Besides, keen. I chose 8lbs because it is mostly made of heavy metal, and yet would need to be able to be wielded one handed. 8lbs seemed reasonable. For special abilities I picked finesse. This is only because of her ability to dance/hoolahoop with it. Double is because she often wields it with two hands (but doesn't have to, it isn't a two handed weapon) and she gets so many hits in. Speaking of hits, that is why I made it a monk weapon. Originally I started to go with the usual "As is Dervish Dance" but I really don't feel that is what she is doing here. The flurry of blows fits nicely for her attacks. As for the write up of the actual weapon. I chose Keen because anyone would want to take advantage of a x3 crit. I chose Ki Focus because that is exactly what the weapons of Soul Caliber do. She obviously channels all kinds of monk abilities through it in the video (though you could make your own with shock, etc, if you were a fighter). And finally I chose vicious because she does hurt herself while using it (when vicious is activated). I agree with Ravingdorks idea of simply using a scimitar, but the unusual design and balance +odd way it is hurled around the body would make me always rule it as exotic. It would take training simply to keep from hurting yourself. Changing the stats to being more like a scimitar would still be in keeping with the feel. Dropping the damage down to 1d6 and increasing the crit range to 18-20 would bring it more in line with a scimitar, but I would keep the exotic weapon type and double/finesse/monk. ![]()
![]() Is the issue the COST or simply the placement? I can see an easy house rule that will allow for more interesting characters. What we have here is slot management. People are giving up a ring slot for a ring of protection, giving up a shoulders for a cloak of resistance, and giving up a neck slot for an amulet of natural armor. What about a house rule that allows you to use another slotted item if it has JUST one of those bonuses? Example. My fighter has
Same could be said of a cloak of resistance. Maybe now you could use a brace of resistance as well as a bracelet (as the bracer is for protective magic only) It isn't like those bonuses stack anyways. The only issue is about balancing it. Since it costs 50% more to "add" something like that... perhaps you could say that a ring of protection made for the protective finger costs 50% more than usual. Same with anything that is specifically Deflection, Natural Armor, Ability Buff, or Save Buff. Logically, you could wear a glove inside a gauntlet, a shirt inside a vest, a belt and a girdle, or a necklace and a periapt or even bracelets and bracers at the same time! The only thing the rules say about it, is that the magic of one item will stop working if you have another magic item in that same slot. Just override that by saying that a pure buff item doesn't count for that same limit. Wouldn't that solve the issue (other than cost specifically)? ![]()
![]() I am so incredibly excited for this book! I don't know who to thank for the Pathfinder line of fantasy RPG but if someone who does reads this, please give them my absolute and heartfelt appreciation. My most favorite things in fantasy are constructs and magic items. Pathfinder ALWAYS keeps me entertained. Best of luck with this book! Does anyone know if there will be augments (similar in function to the magic item compendium's augment crystals)? |
