"GrrraAaaaH!" Garrasay shouted in frustration. Knowing that it was likely an ambush didn't make being ambushed any more pleasant. Petal quickly retreated into the relative safety of Garrasay's pack as the gnoll pushed forward through the snow.

Having learned his lesson from the encounter with the weasel, he quickly summoned forth his magical shield and prepared his flail.

Garrasay carefully proceeded, his eyes darting from one snowy nook to another looking for danger. Petal rustled anxiously as he too was on guard for an ambush.

"rgrgrgrrgr. More fey tricks then? Should we confront them and suffer their antics or move on and hope that they don't follow and pester us. rrgrRRrrrr"

Garrasay squinted through the gently falling snow. "This is probably another trap" he thought to himself. "But what if it isn't and there really is someone that needs our help"

Petal gave an agitated rustle, sensing Garrasay's conflict.

"Was it worse to walk into yet another ambush, or to play it safe and leave someone in need to their fate." He involuntarily growled as he mulled over the options before finally speaking.

"rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I suspect this is another ambush, but I don't feel right just walking away from someone who might actually be in peril." He sighed in resignation, gesturing towards the sound. "We should probably go check it out. grrgergrrgrrggg."

The cold still cut through Garrasay's clothes and shaggy fur, but he managed to keep the chill at bay, at least for now.

As he approached the snowy pass he eyed the tops of the cliffs warily, alert for dangers.

"Rrrggrggrr. What now, another ghostly girl lost in the woods? Grgrrgggg" he muttered as the sound of laughter echoed around the group.

Garrasay is wary about the ambush spot, though his wounds are mended they still throb with the memory of the savage beast.

Garrasay finishes putting on his armour before peeking outside. It takes a moment for his vision to adjust to the darkness, but as it does everything becomes clear, though rendered without colours.

For the last day or two he had confined himself to bed. Not only was his body battered, but his ego was bruised by being defeated so easily by a beast. All of his martial and arcane prowess and he was felled by a moment of foolishness and overconfidence.

During this time Petal tended to him, rustling about, bringing him whatever he needed. He only emerged to tend to those things Petal could not.

The sudden noise did rouse him however. With the shouted warning and the sudden wind whipping up he drew himself out of bed and proceeded to don his armour. "Ggrrrggrrrrrr. What is going on out there? RrrrRRrg" he growled out.

Garrasay lapses in and out of consciousness as he is dragged back to the lodge. He sits by the fire where he was propped up growling quietly to himself. Petal rustles about worriedly, keeping watch over him and tending to little tasks to help keep him comfortable.

Petal has low light and doesn't sleep. Although his perception is low, he will keep an eye(?) on every watch. Can you assist a perception check? If so, that is what he will do.

I almost have my hand back, cast comes off in two days.
I will be more active when I can type without taking 5 min per sentence hunting and pecking with one finger =)

Garrasay is unconscious anyway so just consider my silence to be roleplaying ;P

The unexpected ferocity of the beast took Garassay completely by surprise. Unable to effectively defend himself, the gnoll is laid low in a frenzy of slashing claws and gnashing teeth.

So, its kind of like this... The AC 20 is when I have shield up which I did not at the time (sorry for the confusion) thus it looks like everything hit for a total of 23 damage which does not kill me, but does leave a mark.

Garrasay snarls as he plows through the snow to get to the beast, drawing his flail as he goes. Gripping the weapon in two hands he swings it in a wide downward arc intending to put a quick end to the wounded animal.

He leaves the hut and waits outside for the rest of the group.

Garrasay shifts uncomfortably "rrrrRrRr. We should move on, this place feels like a trap. The doll is out of place in the wilds and I have my doubts that whoever put it here was benevolent. Especially considering the ghost of the girl down below. GrGggggrrRr"

"Rrrrggg. Sometimes Petal sits on my head as well, or lurks in my pack. He did rustle over and open the door for someone during the fight in the lodge, but mostly he is content to hide in the pack when a fight breaks out. ggrggrgrg."

Garrasay grips his flail and inches closer. He peers warily at the small figure sitting at the hut's doorway expecting more sprites. "Grrrrrggr. Careful Kishai, there have been no friendly fey since the winter fell across the forest. RrrrRrRrr."

He follows Kishai closely while Petal keeps alert for an ambush.

When Mordred becomes frightened, Garrasay covers him as he retreats. The only threat the gnoll knows of is the ghostly girl, so he glances back and forth, flail at the read and magic words on his lips should the phantasm materialize to give chase. "RrrrRRRrrrggg. This place is cursed. Something evil has happened here." He watches the scene unfold with a low growl. "The hut at the center of this malevolence may hold the clue. RrrrRRrrr"

Garrasay followed, eyeing the ice pillars suspiciously as he went. "RrrrRrGgGg. These ice structures, are they normal? What is this place?. rrRggGrr

Garrasay peered at the spectral child with suspicion. "Rrrrrrrr. I don't know enough about things outside of the natural cycle. Is there some way to determine if this apparition is benevolent or not without putting ourselves at risk? ggGgrrrr. he quietly asked.

After a few moments of consideration Garrassay turns his shaggy mane back towards the trail "Ggrrrrr. If nobody can speak with the animal, then we should continue on. The threat of the winter enveloping the lands is greater than the life of one animal. rrrrrrrr"

"rgggrggrgr. The snow does seem to present a more pressing threat, but at the same time the blood and fur on the trap suggests that the animal is wounded. Can anyone converse with animals? Perhaps if we were to assist it, it might be able to tell us more about what is happening. Rrrrgrr"

Garrasay growls softly as he whispers "grrrr. The sounds have stopped. Did it leave or does it lie in ambush? rrrrrr"

While his main reason for doing so was to watch and learn from the more skilled tracker, he does manage to help in the endeavour.

"hrrrrrrrr." Garrasay growled quietly as he pondered. "Will the adult tree survive? If there are none to take care of the young, though I know nothing about them perhaps we could bring them with us and Petal could care for them. ggrgrgrr."

Garrasay was somewhat ambivalent about the fate of the trees. Just like with the bandits and fey before, though he would have preferred a more peaceful resolution they had been the ones that started the fight. He had simply done what he had to do to protect himself and the rest of the group.

"GrrRrRrrrr. This conflict was unfortunate, but we are entitled to defend ourselves against aggression. They were able to speak and reason and they are the ones that chose violence over diplomacy to resolve their territorial dispute. rrrrrrrrrr"

The snow made any thoughts of fleeing unlikely. Faced with violent vegetation and no means to retreat from the situation there was little choice.

"AarrrrrrrrGgGggr" he growled in frustration at the furious fir.

He drew his flail and gripping it in both hand struck at the tree in self defence.

Petal rustles excitedly as the trees came to life. Garrasay could feel his desire to be able to communicate with the other plant creatures. "rRRrRrrggg. We are friends of the forest, we mean you no harm. We merely seek the source of this unnatural winter to restore the normal cycle. GggGrrRggg"

Despite wishing to resolve this peacefully, Garrasay knew that conflict might be inevitable. Still he wanted to give the trees the benefit of the doubt and prepared to cast a defensive spell if need be.

Garrasay looks at the deep snow on either side of the gorge. On a good day without the snow he might have been able to find a safe path around the obstacle, but under these conditions? Instead he opted to assist Mordeed intent on learning from the more skilled woodsman.

"Rrggrgrgr. Yes, the snow itself is wrong, but it seems to have also attracted an unusual amount of unsavoury fey. Since we started our own investigations we have been attacked on more than one occasion by small blue sprites of some description. It is fortunate that you have not encountered any."

Garrasay motions to the door upstairs "We have found one trapped in a cage upstairs. They seem to have vexed the bandits who used to live here as well. I don't know what the bandit leader's intentions were with the little fey, but my companions are talking with it now. Maybe it knows something about the cause of the weather. Would you care to talk with it?. rrrrrRRRRr?"

The gnoll took a seat by the fire and the tangle of vines crept from his head down his arm to the table where it rested with a contented rustle. "Rrrr. This is a very poor evening to be out in the forest Durra. What brings you this way tonight of all nights. grrrRrRr"

The shaggy gnoll sized up the orc for a moment or two before replying "Gggrrrrrrr. Its not safe in the woods as of late. It would have been better if you could have found lodging in Heldren, but since you are here it would be unkind of me to turn you away. The place is in disarray though, a group of bandits was recently defeated here."

Garrasay opens the door and stands aside, motioning for the newcomer to enter. "My name is Garrasay and this is Petal. hhrrrrrRrRR." he says, motioning to the crown of flowers on his head that rustle cheerfully.

Garrasay heard the knock at the front door and sighed as he grumbled "Rrrrggggg. Now who is it? If we had just waited another hour or two we could have had an entire army to confront these bandits."

He ambled to the entrance and peered through the window at the newcomer. Seeing the orcish woman he became a little concerned that she might be associated with the prisoner they had handed over to the guards who had left a short time ago.

He opened the door, alert for any danger "Hello, can I help you? rrgghhghggrrr"

Garrasay's bushy eyebrows shoot up at the threats being leveled at the group by the tiny creature. "Hrrrrrr. No need to be angry, we are not with the necromancer. We have in fact defeated him. Be patient, we will see if there is a key about to release you from your prison. Why has the bandit leader imprisoned you? gggrrrggg"

Garasay was about to simply reach up for the cage when Satu intervened. He was about to say something, but then noticed the meticulousness with which she examined the cage before touching it. He let out a low growl, it had never occurred to him that the cage may be trapped, but it was a wise precaution. These bandits had set up the spiked log and the magical trap at the river so it wasn't unreasonable that they might trap something valuable here as well.

rRRrrrrrr. Yes, the source of this unnatural weather must be found. It is already wreaking havoc on the locals and if it spreads any further will be a serious threat to the livelihoods of the farmers in the area. That and it seems to be attracting unsavoury fey. Perhaps it is a manifestation of the First World? In any case, I suggest that if we are satisfied the Lady is safe now we finish investigating what happened here and see if there are any clues as to the weather. Then I think this is as good a place as any to rest before continuing our hunt for the source of this aberrant winter tomorrow. Grrrrr."
