Liberty's Edge

Thank you for the kind words and encouragement. As a more combat oriented character, having missed the "chase" and the fight, it was a little harder to find Garr's voice when the discussion was history.

Hopefully we will have the opportunity to work with you again.

Liberty's Edge

It was a tough group. There were a lot of good characters and the choices must have been hard.

I also enjoyed the time we did get.

Good luck to all those who were picked.

Liberty's Edge

I wouldn't mind advice to make my next submission better. I wish I'd gotten my submission together earlier and been able to take part in the more active portion of the gameplay. I feel I didn't give a good showing in the straight conversation.
Thank you for the opportunity, I hope you will think about running a table like this again.

Garr looks down on Lissa with a confused look.
"You control water, but not via the arcane and not granted by a god? Perhaps there is a water elemental somewhere in your family tree? You say there are stories of others with similar abilities with mysterious sources? I would like to learn more if we have time."

Garr perks up at Boris' mention of the Lord in Iron. "Now Gorum I know. He has granted help in my cause of freedom. I would pray to him while chained to the forge or the bellows. Help came in the form of a Pathfinder agent who helped to organize the slaves and prisoners to escape the giants. It was a glorious battle."

Teamwork ... I must remember how useful it is. And that some battles cannot be won without help ... even help from a mage.

"Pathfinders are best when part of a team. Is a good lesson to remember."

Watching the Harrow, Garr listens and quietly reflects upon his life. "Nella, I guess I did eventually find beauty in the embers and the flames of the forge. And a certain beauty in the things created out of the iron and fire. "

Taking an ale from Boris, he speaks softly so as not to disturb the reading, "On monia asioita, jotka asuvat pimeys En haluaisi kohdata yksin. Ihailen vahvuus ystävä Boris."

Dwarven:
"There are many things that dwell in the darkness that I would not like to face alone. I admire your strength friend Boris."

"I am not Varisian to my knowledge. I don't really know where I came from, but I gained my freedom in the region known as the Umbral Basin. I have no wish to return there."

A look of fear passes over his face and a faint shudder through his charms and trinkets. He concentrates on several for a few moments and then the fierce look returns to his face.

Grinning with his cracked and chipped tusks, Garr looks over at his fellow half-orc. Դուք էին բախտը բերել է, որ մեծացել է մի ընտանիքում Kajar. Դուք դեռ խոսում քո հօր լեզուն?

Orc:
You were lucky to have grown up with a family Kajar. Do you still speak your father's tongue?

Turning to the rough human, It's was a good hit, Boris. You can be proud. But perhaps you should have had less to drink so early in the day.

With a sidelong glance at the two Shelynites, he mutters to himself Not much beauty in the world, when it is viewed from chains.

More loudly he continues, I'm sorry I was late, it sounds like you could have used my help against that thing. It's hard to trust someone who can make things fight for them. The Lord in Iron respects those who can fight for themselves.

To the rest of the initiates, he asks, So, do you think they'll get all the pieces of the Sky Key before we get our assignments?

A Pathfinder agent pulled me out of ... a bad place. Figured joining up would let me do the same for others.

And let me pound the snot out of some uppity mages. Too much power for any person.

Garr looks up from his meal. History isn't my strong suit, but it gives us something to talk about while we wait.

Speaking to no one in particular, he raises his voice, half chewed food tumbling out of his mouth as he speaks.

So, what do you think, maybe a return of the Shadow Lodge? Haven't heard much from them since the Society made peace five years ago. Wasn't there a faction that didn't care for the truce?

Sadly Garr looks at the pile of ruined wood that had, just moments ago been threatening his fellow Pathfinder initiates.

Guess I missed all the fun.

He eyes Luthor suspiciously. Healing not granted by his Goddess? How can that be?

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13

He shrugs to himself. Guess it's possible, don't mean I have to like it. Thankfully I don't need healing right now.

Time to get some breakfast.

He shouts to the bartender, Barkeep, what's for breakfast?

Garr comes running up to the tavern, looks up at the signpost and back at the note in his hand. Finally found this place, why couldn't they have just told us the name?

He walks in the door and looks around at all the commotion. Finding someone standing around cheering on his fellow cadets, he puts a large gnarled hand on his shoulder and leans over.

Can you tell me what is going on here?

Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

Looks like a fight.

GM only:
Should I jump in the fight or hold back until next initiative?

Liberty's Edge

Wow, ok. A ruling about skills and equipment hidden away in the Feats section. No wonder I never found it. I was never interested in crafting magical items.

Garr's equipment has been updated to reflect this. Sorry to have been so much trouble.

Liberty's Edge

Having read the Guide, the Additional Resources page and the PFS FAQ, I still cannot find anything that says self-crafted items cannot be used. Can someone reference or quote a page or passage?
I'm not trying to argue, it just isn't obvious to me.

Garr is a large half orc barbarian with a thing against arcane spellcasters. This is the latest version of a concept that I have tried to play in at least four failed campaigns. Hopefully He's not cursed and I will be able to play him. He can work in a party with an arcane caster, if they are working on a common goal. It presents some (hopefully fun) interesting role-playing opportunities.

Description:

Garr Taurog is a hulking brute of a half-orc, standing nearly 7 feet tall and bulging with rope-like muscles. His tanned and weathered grey-green skin is covered with angular spiraling tattoos and scars, both from battle and in arcane symbols, from his shaven scalp and bare cheeks, to his rough calloused hands and feet. His chipped and cracked tusks protrude from the thick black goatee cascading from his chin braided in the Dwarven style.

His clothing consists of little more than a tattered cloth shirt beneath his spiked breastplate and a much patched leather loincloth hanging at his waist. A pair plain leather sandals adorn his feet, the laces wrapped around his thick calves and under his battered greaves. A patchwork leather pack rests upon his back and a pair of bandoliers cross his chest bristling with the hilts of many daggers.

He carries a massive earth-breaker over his shoulder while a Dwarven waraxe and spiked chain hang from his wide leather belt. A collection of charms and trinkets hang from various straps and cords arrayed about his person. His calloused hands periodically check the knots to make sure none of them have come loose. His dark eyes constantly look around warily, searching for signs of danger.

Background:

Born into slavery, Garr has no recollection of his parents. His earliest memories are of pain and hardship. Raised by a scarred witch doctor and his apprentice, his childhood was filled with constant harassment as he was always the target of practiced spells. The witch doctor was the spiritual leader of an orc tribe and while he was Garr's primary keeper, Garr was expected to perform much manual labor around the camp as well. He was forced to perform many tasks that the full orc tribe members refused, such as filling the latrine sumps.

When Garr was nearly past childhood, the orc tribe was conquered by a tribe of cave giants led by an ogre mage. There he spent most of his adolescence chained to the bellows, still periodically taunted by the witch doctor and his apprentice (as well as the ogre mage). Eventually the giants captured a Dwarven smith who befriended Garr and taught him the art of the forge. After several years of study under his Dwarven mentor, Garr started secretly forging his own weapons and armor, and plotting his escape.

A new captive helped to precipitate the events that led to the downfall of both the orcs and the giants. An agent of the Pathfinder Society was captured while investigating raids on nearby trade routes and villages. This agent was able to use Garr's growing arsenal to arm many other captives and organize a revolt against the ogre mage and his minions.

Led by the Pathfinder agent, Garr and his Dwarven mentor slew their captors and helped the captives fight their way out of the caves. The Dwarf was wounded in the escape and died before they were able to reach civilization. The Pathfinder agent taught Garr the art of surviving in the wilderness. How to trap food, find water, identity edible plants and navigate. Though he had had help, many of the survivors credited Garr with saving them.

Since then, he has wandered in search of slaves to free and arcane spellcasters to slay. He strives to be a good person, but his lust for vengeance against spellcasters leads him to frequently take the more enjoyably violent way through problems. He also tends to believe that the end justifies the means and is usually willing to make sacrifices (sometimes of other lives) to achieve his goals.

I agree to post daily, or notify the GM if I am temporarily unable to do so. I promise to respect others and to allow everyone - myself included - to have fun playing.

I am a long time gamer, started with AD&D 2nd Edition in high school. I've been playing and GMing d20 since it came out. I have never played in PFS and am hoping to start. I am currently running a homebrew Pathfinder game in a setting that I created, but due to scheduling and a growing family (3 children, eldest now 2 and a half, younger ones are twins, nearly a year old) we haven't been able to meet as often as I would like. Our last session was nearly six months ago.

I have been following several PbP games here and have been trying to join, but have yet to be selected. I am hoping this will be a good opportunity to get a foot in the door.

This character is the latest version of a concept that I have used in at least four failed campaigns. It does have some questionable gear, as I have not been able to find any info regarding first level characters starting with crafted gear if they have the skills. If necessary I can scale back the gear to just purchased equipment.

Thank you for this opportunity.
