This looks perfect. I wasn't aware it existed. I'll show it to the GM. Thanks!

I have not left you. You don't have to make sure you get better, but you probably want to!

Will Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 12
As Gareth was already looking up, he was one of a few people to see the flying beast first. The horrid splendor of the monster causes his heart to race, and his instinct is to run. All thought of his mother is banished at the sight of the creature. He runs blindly through the crowd.
Ref Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
He barely dodges a few flying elbows, feet, and bodies as he is jostled through the crowd.

"Yes," agrees Gareth, "we should help the people of Gate Pass." He walks towards Torrent and hands her shield to her. He turns to the rest of the group and tells them, "Before the man on the horse left after giving his order to leave, he winked at me. I mean, he looked strait at me and winked exaggeratedly. He just burned down a building! Your building!" he points at Torrent. "What could be his meaning? Did he enjoy his rampage?'

After his rant, Gareth stands in the street panting; his anger making him completely forget some of the more important things like the burnt people and his "Mother!" gasps Gareth. He begins to frantically surveying the smoke, attempting to determine the location of the fires.

Gareth acknowledges Kallant's notification of the eminent collapse of the section of building. We could stay here for a while longer, but for what purpose? We will be divided and killed. We must stick together.

"We must leave this place quickly!" he says as he hurries through the side door. He looks to the right to determine the number of enemies. The amount surpassed anything he would have imagined. Instead of going left, he takes a short step to the right and drops his sword behind himself. "Somebody, please, hold onto my weapon while I handle this!" he requests and braces himself with Torrents shield, for the coming onslaught. At least it's a bottle neck, he optimistically notes.

Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 1 damage
Gareth gasps as hot oil drips from the ceiling and onto his back leaving a line of raw flesh where it passes. His attention had been so focused on the door in front of himself, he had not noticed the predicament he is now in. Looking at the licking flames he says, "Yes, definitely like the old man's tales."
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
He moves past Sheyan patting his shoulder and says, "To the side door, friend. They may not yet be there." Careful to avoid the flaming debris, Gareth moves next to Torrent. Adjusting his grip on his weapon, he retrieves Her shield from its resting place on the floor. "You might need this later," he explains.

Hi! I'm back from the trip early due to an amount of snow that was not predicted. I won't go into detail, but I am back.

Gareth glances once towards the stairs before turning his concentration on the door in front of him. He gives a nod to his two new allies, Mule and Sheyan, to assure himself of his confidence. "We have this, right?" His anticipation builds with his eagerness to fight.

This is exactly like the story my grandfather told me. A small group of resistance fighters were holed up in an abandoned tavern fighting off waves of attack dogs while the tavern was on fire. Also, the cellar was being used to hold some kind of explosive substance, and it was about to catch. If they were able to fight their way out of that, we can surely fight our way out of this.

With images of courage and companionship flashing through his mind, Gareth steels himself for the blow he is about to send towards his enemies...

leaves defensive stance. [standard action]Readies attack against the enemy coming through the door.

Gareth was not expecting trouble in his own town. He believed he would be safe until the Ragesians arrived. He only brought his greatsword with him. He had hoped to impress the Resistance contact with the fine piece he had managed to buy. It seems he may have to impress her with it in another way.

Gareth draws his large sword from the scabbard on his back as he steps a little way towards the staircase and steps into a defensive stance. "Do not worry friends. I will defend you with my life if I must," he says quietly.

A fire lit in his eyes that had never existed before, for it had never before had the fuel to burn; it had only the spark.

I hope the GM doesn't punish me for role playing my character's assumption, and that he will be able to retrieve his armor before leaving the city! Who wears their armor in the middle of the city that is their home? It's like wearing a bullet proof vest to walk to the grocery store. Should my character just have his armor? Nah, too easy. Treat my AC as 13. Unless GM wants to change this, this is how things are.

AC 10+3(Dex)+2(fighting defensively)=15

Gareth looks towards the stairs, curious of who Mule might have heard coming. Great! Another ally! I'm meeting so many new people. How will I keep track of them all if they need me? Better make sure I don't pick favorites. This rush of thoughts goes through his head at the mention of a new party member.

Not knowing when the unknown person will appear, Gareth decides to ask an important question, "Will we make arrangements to leave before visiting the gnome? This way we will have a quick way out."

Also, I want to notify you in advance. I will be gone on a hunting trip on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. I might be able to make a post on Thursday morning, and I will get back on Sunday. This is a preemptive apology for my absence. Do with me what you must during that time. Thanks!

When Kagan asked the group whether or not they had killed anybody, Gareth's head sunk a bit. Will his expectations of me change if he knew it were true? Would he accept me? Of course I have always imagined slaying foes that would stand against my friends, but I have never done it. Only have I been trained to fight, but I know I could not stand by and let my fellows get hurt!

His head lifts as he comes to this conclusion, just in time to hear the answer to his question. Yes, that does sound convoluted. You said we must meet this gnome...Rivereye inside the city walls? We could collect the information and decide on a way out from there. Although, I would like to leave this pub with a plan."

To the side he whispers, "I wish I knew where Martyn is..." Then, he fully realizes the meaning of the ornaments Kagan is adorned with and visibly gags. "Why... Are those from...? I mean, they were your enemies right?"

After quickly finishing his drink, Gareth looks towards Mule. "Joining the army would take too long. It is not an instant process. I know because they are still doing my paper work..." He begins to pace back and forth. "And, of this gnome, how did he get such an important piece of intelligence?" He looks at Torrent for an answer. "Oh, I have yet to make myself known. I am Gareth." He slightly waves to the group.

When the door opens Garteh feels the flow of warm air, or at least not as cold air, even from where he stands. The last of the ice begins to melt off of his now ridiculously positioned hair. Why was I so impatient? he wonders to himself. As soon as he can, he walks quickly into the comfort of the pub.

The words of the woman are nearly lost to him in his rush for warmth. He hears on offer of drink and notices a keg and a group of mugs on a prominent table, and he immediately approaches. Once his container is full, he begins to wonder the room, searching for the warmest location. He finds a suitable position and stands there to take in the sight of his new allies. He comes to the hasty conclusion, These people look like a good lot! He waits as he warms up with his drink.

At the word 'freezing', Gareth begins to realize just how cold it is outside. He begins to shiver, and the shuddering dislodges some of the ice from his hair. In his excitement he must have forgotten his coat. "Or F..f...f..reeeeze to d..d.death...," he manages to stammer.

Gareth gets out of bed before midnight. His mother is asleep in the other room. Shouldn't wake her, he determines. However, he leaves her a quick note that he places over her empty shoes. He figures, She'll find it there, if she must. On the note are the words, 'I may have found a way'. He leaves the house through the front door and latches it behind himself. As he turns, he takes a deep breath of the sharp winter air. Grandfather, I hope this would make you proud, he says to wherever the spirit of the old man now rests, and he takes his first steps.

The more than brisk breeze musses Gareth's hair, and the snowflakes catch in it and begin to melt until the cold defeats the warmth of his own body; they begin to freeze. Oblivious to the temperature, he walks through the street with an excited spring to his step, the new snow giving way with a slight crunch with each movement. The air is thick with snow and the night is dark, so it is difficult for Gareth to see very far ahead with his only light source coming from the few houses whome's occupants are not yet asleep. Yet, he remembers this place. He only visited a few times with Martyn, but he knew the way.

Not wanting to draw any more intention than he must, he turned directly down the side alley of the Poison Apple Pub, not noticing an unusual shape at the front enterance. The alley is even darker than the street, and Gareth's eyes have not had time to adjust. He stops as he sees two hulking figures speaking a harsh language to each other, unsure of the motives behind their presence. They may be here for the same reason I am, thinks Gareth. He smiles and greets the two, leaning towards the idea they are allies. "Uh... Hello good...uh...sirs," he says somewhat quietly with a smile on his face and his right hand raised

Thanks for choosing me for this adventure. I look forward to having you carry me through a tale of fantasy, and I will enjoy the personalities and writing of all of the other players, too. Thank you.

KaganJust read Stronghand's background. I promise i didn't steal 'a family member dying of pneumonia' from you. It was honest coincedence. Anyway, great backstory! Nice plot, structure, and vocabulary. I can tell your an amazing writer.

To anyone else: Don't let its length steer you away. Its interesting all the way through. One last time, a good amount of thought went into creating it. Nice work.

Almost done with information. The background is complete. Added childhood, lufe affecting tales that are actually delusions, and mentorship. Only need statistics for the mount. Sorry for any mispelledd words. I only had a Nook Color to use. Don't worry I will have an actual keyboard the rest of the time. Now, time to read other interesting backstories!

Hi, this is my first time applying for a play by post. I have not done anything like this before. I created a cavalier. Is having the mount okay? I saw no rules against it. I have the character info and a background that I hope you like. It's not a very far background. It's more in light of the recent events. If I made any mistakes, please let me know. I will get the mount's stats if I should.
