As directed, Gaia will park the flatbed before accompanying her companions to the inn. Dropping off anything unneccessary (and not too valuable), the guard then heads back out with Burgos to look over the town. Partly out of a long-time habit, and partly out of a wariness of the area (particularly after what the party saw on the way to the town), Gaia intends to carry her weapons with her.
Sorry, fell behind a bit the last few days :( Gaia nods to Ivaanov and Burgos as she moves forward to cover them, her eyes searching for any signs of further hostiles nearby. As the ecclesiarch moves the fallen body, the guard's gaze falls upon it momentarily. "By the Emperor.." she exclaims. There was something very, very wrong out here and she didn't like it one bit.
It didn't take too long for Gaia to become familiar with the flatbed's controls. It was beaten up and exposed, but she had driven far worse before. The roads were quiet anyway. Not to mention mind-numbingly boring. The guard wished that there was something to look at that was more interesting than yet another brown rock cluster. As they pass by the dead cow, Gaia remarks dryly, "Here I was beginning to think there was nothing alive out here at all."
"I have around 30 thrones to add to the pot", Gaia adds. "And thanks." Have 34 thrones to throw in - either to buy more equipment for people or to pay back people that have lent all their money. Sorry, I did mean to post this earlier, but things have been kind of crazy this week. Have been house cleaning non-stop due to this moving business :(. Hopefully my posts will be a lot more regular next week
"A lasgun would be useful if we can find one," Gaia comments to Burgos in the market. "If trouble's likely, I'd like something that packs more punch than a pistol and can last a while before running out of juice." Somehow managed to miss the lasgun was available in the starting package and took the shotgun instead. Regular shotguns are good, but they can only make two shots a go, and I think a combat shotgun might be a little out of our range just now

Hooking her shotgun back to her belt holster again, Gaia moves forward to follow the cherub. Her grenade hadn't quite landed where she had intended, but fortunately it had been close enough. Ashleen, huh? A gang of some sort, from the looks of things. Hopefully they'd learned their lesson now, and there wouldn't be any more trouble from the flame-faced men. There are also psyker healing powers that can help a good bit. Otherwise, it's just medicae, but in my experience the skill does work well. Remember that we all have fortune points to use in sticky situations as well. :)
"One coming up!" Gaia calls back to the priest, pulling a frag grenade from her belt. Pulling the pin, the guard lobs the grenade over at the enemies. Unfortunately, her aim is a little off.. Scatter time.. :D
Gaia is last. :-p
Unfortunately, the guard wasn't quite as well prepared as she thought. As the thugs confront the group, Gaia moved to draw her shotgun. However, the barrel snags a little, and the delay is enough to slow her reactions. Gaia will draw her weapon and move to the closest cover as soon as she is able to - unfortunately I didn't mention drawing a weapon before, so she'll not have one ready. Also, sorry to throw a wrench into the posting times, but I suspect I'm in a bit of a further timezone from everyone - I'm in the UK, which is 5 hours ahead of EST and 8 hours ahead of PST.. so I'm not sure a scheduled time would work out for me.
Gaia eyed the first tattooed man quietly, wondering why he was so interested in their group. Surely this planet had seen off-worlders before? As the servitor moved on through the crowd, the guard decided to leave it be for now. It was probably nothing, but it never hurt to be aware and prepared anyway. As they passed the second tattooed man, Gaia was unable to make out any of his mad-sounding ramblings. She wondered what the tattoo meant, before shaking her head in reponse to the priest. "Haven't seen it before."
The drop was, as always, wholly unpleasant, but fortunately Gaia's previous experiences stood her in good stead. She had been as sick as a dog the first time she fell out of the sky. You never quite got completely used to it, but you got used to it enough. After the shuttle had landed, the guard unbuckled herself before rising from her seat. Almost instinctively, she checked that all of her equipment was fine before leaving the ship. As Burgos steps up to talk to the official, Gaia stays back slightly, watching the two shotgun-armed guards with some interest. You could tell a lot from a planet by the way its defence forces carried themselves, afterall.
Just to let you all know, I'm moving house this weekend, so I may not be able to be on very much for a few days starting Saturday (definitely won't be around on Monday as my cable is being moved then). Please NPC me as necessary. I will make sure I get a post up tomorrow morning though - apologies for being quiet the last couple of days.
Eccentric DM wrote: "Any of you been on a drop before?" "..I have," the guard answers. It wasn't an experience you easily forgot. Nothing quite like feeling your stomach rush up to meet your head. Nevertheless Gaia shakes her head when offered the sedatives. "I'll be fine." Hopefully. It would make the drop go easier true, but she didn't like the idea of going down without her senses sharp, even if he did claim it would be for the drop duration only. The Uplifting Primer rule #44 stated that a guardsman should be aware at all times, afterall. I don't own the black library uplifting primer unfortunately.. so any reference I make to the primer won't match up with the printed version. Anyone who owns it, please feel free to correct me :D
The lurch of the ship dropping out of orbit brings back more than a few memories for Gaia. Could be worse though. At least they weren't dropping into anti-aircraft artillery fire this time. Well, she hoped not anyway. Rising to her feet, the guard holsters her weapons, shoulders the rest of her belongings and follows the rest of her team, switching to the vox channel that Burgos mentioned.
Partly to pass the time, and partly because it was a habit ingrained in her through training, Gaia was methodically stripping and cleaning the weapons she carried. Each stage was accompanied by the appropriate litany to the machine spirits - it wouldn't do to have the spirits angry afterall: the guns might not work then. The guardswoman looked up at the Metallican at her question. She shrugged her shoulders.
Just tagging the thread too. Justine: Talents like Mighty Shot, Crack Shot, Quick Draw (if you use different ranged weapons for different situations) and Deadeye Shot are all really useful for ranged characters. Hip Shooting's also quite useful too. :) My first DH character was actually a sniper assassin. Unfortunately, she met a really nasty end after attracting the attention of a splinter gun or two. :( (Sound Constitution is always useful for every character!) Also, apparently sniper weapons have now been errataed to make them more on par with some of the auto weapons. A weapon with accurate used to just give a BS bonus, but in the errata, it also gives an extra d10 of damage for every 2 degrees of success (to a max of 2d10). In my experience, it was really hard to do any significant damage as a sniper before, so I think this is probably a good change. All the errata are available here

No problem. If I do remember anything, then I will of course keep player and character knowledge separate. I've rolled up a character tonight (I love DH's random generation mechanics) and got a Guardsman. Think I've got everything done apart from a more detailed background. I bought a couple of extra things - just grenades and more ammo, really. While I could fit another weapon in the equipment list, it would leave me with absolutely no thrones at all, so I decided to leave it out for now. The bigger weapons will perhaps come later :D How will you be working the Inquisitor? Will we be choosing one from the book or will it be a surprise? :). I've never actually played in a DH game that has the group's Inquisitor as a NPC - my tabletop group's DM likes to assign the role to a player (with all the others as the acolytes), so my experience is a little different to the default way of playing. |
