Hat of Shade

Aura faint evocation; CL 3rd
Slot head; Price 18,000 gp; Weight -

DESCRIPTION

This stylish hat keeps the wearer in fashionably ominous shadow, even under the light of the sun. A wearer with light blindness, light sensitivity, or vulnerability to sunlight (such as vampires and wraiths) may ignore penalties from those qualities. The hat gives the wearer a +2 bonus on saving throws against nonmagical hazards related to bright light, such as glare or sunburn.

CONSTRUCTION

Requirements Craft Wondrous Item, protective penumbra; Cost 9,000 gp

Did you make that item or is if from a book? if so can you please source it for us.

Nice to have ruling on this. But I disagree with it. Cause is that not the point of Mirror Image? I believe but you have no idea which is the image and which is the caster so how do you target the caster and not an image. If you could tell the difference then you could just melee attack the caster just as easy. Also Mirror image is LV 2 versus LV 1 Magic missile. It should have the edge. Illusion magic is all about fooling others. The purpose of the spell in the description says it makes it difficult to precisely locate and attack the subject of the spell. MM says you have to designate a target to hit it but if you cannot tell which is the target then how do you hit it with magic missile? Not trying to pick a fight or start and argument especially since the rule has been handed down from on High. Just playing a little Devils advocate with some logic. That's my two cents worth and with that I step off my soap box.

It's perfectly possible for an amateur to have a few credits. The rules of the contest are pretty clear on this point.

Official Rules wrote:

Anyone who has been employed full-time as a designer for a game company is ineligible. Anyone with a cover credit on a hardcover RPG book is ineligible. Contestants must provide their real names on their paizo.com accounts. Legal identification must be produced on request.

Ok thanks for the clarification and my apologies if I came off as bitter for my misunderstanding of the rules. I will try to have more tact in the future with my post.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats, I saw this one 9 times in the polls. I gave it some thumbs up. Needs a few more spells I think like mage hand, and maybe something to boost DEX and/or Sleight of Hand. Good luck.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats, I saw your item 3 times and always gave it a thumbs up. I have always loved a good dagger, must be the boyscout in me. Looking forward to your next round entry.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats, I saw this come up in the polls 3 times but I have to confess that I voted it down each time. I think the idea is better as a bludgeoning weapon ability in need of some cleaned up mechanics. The idea of a crossbow striking a swarm with finite pointed tip of ammo just does not work for me. Felt it was very overpowered but and interesting concept that got you thru because anyone that has faced a swarm would like something along these lines. Good luck in your next round.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats, Well made but seems limited to only a few character types. Price is wonky but fixable. Good luck in the next round. I saw this item 7 times in the polls. Also feel likes a name change is in order.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats, Not a bad item I think. I only saw it once in the polls. Price should be higher in my opinion for something that auto detects so much. Good luck in the next round.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats, Very original in my opinion. Never saw it in the polls. Has that feeling that it was originally created to be a wondrous item but nicely done either way. Good luck in the next round.

Star Voter Season 8

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Congrats, I thought it should have been a weapon. It sounded like one by looking at the name. Maybe make a set of gauntlets that do the same thing on a less powerful scale. Good luck in the next round.
Here is another item I never saw in the polls.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats. I never saw this one in the polls. I hate to say it but it just looks like you took the Ring of Rat Fang from the UE pg 172, Slapped on a poison attack and gave it a snake theme. Good luck in the next round.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats. I saw this item 4 times but always voted it down because it seemed just to much like generic earth pounding hammer that knocks things down. Very unoriginal. Like a souped up Mattock of the Titans stuck with Mjolnir. Good luck in the next round.

Star Voter Season 8

One of more unique Items I have seen and I applaud creativity. Sadly I never saw this one in the polls even once but I can see why you got into the top 32. Seems very under priced. Also what happens when it is subjected to cold type attacks and low temperatures? Good luck in the next round

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats, I love the visual description but you should also add that there are like leeches or mosquitos trapped in the Amber. The idea is not very original as there have been venom/poison draining daggers around forever. Good luck in the next round.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats, Another one of the items that I saw many times. In fact I saw it 15times in the polls. I like the idea but feel you need to add more detail to give it some balance (I know the 300 word limit made that hard). I though it was very original but lacking in sound rules mechanics. Very unbalanced but the idea seems to have won you thru.Good Luck in the next round.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats, I saw this one 3 times in the polls. It sounds just like Goku's staff from the Dragon Ball Z anime in retrospect. Good Luck in the next round.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats, I liked this one. I saw it twice in the polls. Only thing I would change is the differing sizes. Make it a short sword and leave it at that. I have seen shattering items in the past but it goes good with the theme. Good luck in the next round.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats, Your item seems like it was originally made to be a wondrous item (Bellows perhaps?) that you made in to a shield at the last second. Very over powered and unbalancing from a GM's perspective. Good luck in the next round.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats, Never saw this one in the polls. I like it a lot. Price seems way off. Should be almost double the price. Good luck in the next round.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats, I only saw this item once in the polls. cool concept but I swear I have seen or read something like that in a martial arts book or movie but nothing comes to mind. Could use a different name. Good Luck in the next round.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats. I only saw this item 2 twice while I voted. The name seems like it would be more fitting for a grenade/bomb type weapon. I know I do not have a better idea for the name myself but a depth charge is an underwater explosive so that is the first thing that comes to mind when I saw this. Good luck in the next round.

Star Voter Season 8

Not Surprised this one got thru, According to my list I saw it 18times! Congrats. I think for a ring that does so much it is under priced.

Star Voter Season 8

Congrats to the top 32 for their hard work and effort. What the rest of of us who did not place in this illustrious group would like to know is where did we place compared to everyone else? How many positive votes did we receive and maybe some feedback from the judges on some of the items that did not make it in? A little constructive critique would be nice so we can learn from our mistakes and improve our craft.

Star Voter Season 8

If both of you guys have published material on Freelance forge should that not technically DQ you from an amateur contest? Does not seem right.

Star Voter Season 8

I know this post is well after the fact and may I start off by saying congrqats. Just wanted to add my two cents but I think it would have been more aptly named along the lines of a Mourners Veil or Veil of the Mourning. Just a few ideas is all. Otherwise a very sound and well balanced item to which I say good job.

We now let rogues sneak attack undead and all folks crit them for basically two reasons:

1) Because in a lot of undead lore (be they staking a vampire or shooting zombies in the head or chopping them up or whatever), critical hits/sneak attacks are often the ONLY way to really hurt undead.

2) Because it's very very common for adventures to get super undead heavy, and that really makes the game frustrating for rogues if they can't sneak attack them.

In any event, while undead have had their hit dice reduced to d8, they do indeed now gain their Charisma modifier to their hit points (and to their Fort saves). The zombie and skeleton are a poor example to look at to see how hit points generally increase (or at least stay about the same) for undead as a result. But then, zombies and skeletons are sort of supposed to be the "starter undead." And their damage reduction is pretty tough for 1st level characters anyway unless they're armed right.

But the vast majority of undead will have a combination of more hit points and/or damage reduction to help them stand up to sneak attacks.

I have to disagree, you should not be able to sneak attack zombies or skeletons at all. While it is popular in modern day lore on the creatures to kill them certain ways, traditionally these creatures are not dependent on their vital organs to function because they are created by infusing them with necromantic energies. (thus why they have no CON)& traditional zombies could still be a danger to you beheaded unless you burned them to nothing. They are animated beings infused with supernatural energies much like a construct. That is what necromancy is and I believe that has been overlooked in the idea of the rules change. The body is just a repository for the energy. Also it says when they reach zero hit points they are destroyed (also like a construct) because at that point the vessel for the energy is too damaged to contain it. Just food for thought. I also think that allowing Rouges to be able crit just about everything now with a few exceptions has brought and imbalance to the class. In my games it now seems that the rogues are regularly dishing out more damage than my front line fighters.
