As the party prepares to depart, another flash comes from the warp device, whereupon a confident looking paladin changeling strolls out, all but dragging a reluctant-looking catfolk man. As the two immediately begin arguing before disappearing into a building, florentine appears to have second thoughts. "Dearies, I... think I should stay here a little longer. I'm not built for a life of adventure, and other frightened newcomers will need my guidance. This is your time, not an old timer's like me." "You all be careful now, will you? The young one will need your guidance." She looks at Tin Man most particularly. "I know this is a hard time for you, but these young lads and lasses will need your experience. Stay strong for them, won't you?" "I'll see what good I can do around here. Be good now, all of you. Life's too short to fear death." She add cryptically. "Believe me, I know. Honestly, I think Florentine would rather live the peaceful life in town than go adventuring. She's too old for this. Maybe she peacefully passed in the real world, and this has obvious consequences in the simulation.
Oof... I hate to do this, but... I'm sorry guys, but I'm going to have to step down from the game. I've bit off a little more than I can chew, games-wise, with life getting a little busier than I'm expected. On top of that, the game just isn't 'clicking' for me. It's an original twist, and I thought I'd enjoy it, but I find myself just... blanking. It wouldn't be fair to you guys to have me just sort of slogging along dragging everyone down. I'm sorry, Jaster, I know you were pretty excited about my character idea. I hope you guys have a good time.
Florentine erupts in giggles at Elsie's impatience, following the girl out the door. "When you're all nice and ready, feel free to catch up with us," she calls out.
Florentine downs the rest of her ale in a single draught, relishing in a taste she hadn't known for years now. "Let's get going; these adventures won't live themselves!" she laughs.
"I'm with you on that point, Janice. I don't like that man one bit."
"I think if you look around," Florentine's hushed tone takes a sharper edge, not unlike an admonishin mother's, "You'll find they're quite aware of that reality already. There's no point in hammering a nail that's all the way through the plank."
Florentine appears shaken by these revelations, and yet is unwilling to speak up. I hadn't thought of that. What happens if someone dies here? This is all just icing on the cake for me, but for them... She does, however, stand at tin_man's outburst, and attempts to reassure him. "This is scary for all of us, it's true, but try to remember: This is a dangerous world, yes, but so was ours. You seem like a man who's seen a lot in his time. There are boogeymen and dragons here, but is that so different from criminals and wars? In a place like this, we can be heroes, not just bystanders. You have your bombs, Gabriel has that big sword, and I have all of this." Florentine punctuates her words with a snap of her fingers, her hand beginning to grow brightly like a torch. Then, she lowers her tone to speak to him in private. "You look like a strong and brave man to me. These young lads and ladies will need all the guidance they can get from us if we want to get somewhere in this. I need you to stand with me and try to keep a level head. If not for yourself, then for them."
"I'll have the ale," Florentine smiles, before sitting down in the proffered seat. "I've never drunk alcohol before and I plan on keeping it that way." "It's good to see you're in no hurry to start," Florentine nods. "It's a bad habit to take." She punctuates her comment with a deep gulp of the drink, as though it wasn't completely contradictory. "But I'll be a liar if I don't say it's nice to unwind with a glass sometimes."
"Nothing wrong with having a little fun while we figure things out, I'll say!" Florentine laughs, wholeheartedly following Taran towards the pub. "It's been far too long since I've had a good drink!" She remembered the doctors' orders all too well "Mrs. Martel, alcohol would interfere with your medication." She remembered the headaches and that one time her liver nearly failed. Here, though, she was well and healthy, and she'd drink whatever she pleased.
GM, I hope you don't object to Mr. Whistle reciting from the SRD. I figured that might be an interesting twist. (And a convenient tool to have in-character for the party.)
"Mr. Whistle, please tell me, what is Numeria?", Florentine asks her familliar. Mr. Whistle gives an almost mechanical whirr before reciting, clinically. "Numeria (pronounced new-MARE-ee-uh) is a barren, harsh land inhabited by tribes of savage barbarians and ruled over by the Black Sovereign, currently Kevoth-Kul, a despot controlled by a manipulative group of mages who toy with forces they do not understand. ISBN 978-1-60125-112-1]" It takes a few moments for her to understand just what happened, before she finally replies. "Well, aren't you a useful little fellow here," rummaging in her belt pouch and producing a small scrap of bread, which she holds out for the bird to snack on. "Numeria sounds like a very adventurous place. Perhaps a little riskier than I'd have gone by myself, but you boys look strong enough to keep us all safe." She avoids answering Gabriel's question for now, not wishing to cause alarm in her companions.
"Ohohohoh," Florentine gently laughs. "Of course I'm coming. I wouldn't miss it for the world."
Florentine follows along silently for now, merely happy to be along for the ride, and keeping a careful eye on Elsie as well. "So, where are you boys planning on going?" She asks.

"Of course, dearie." Florentine smiles. "The more the merrier, my mother always said!"
"Oh! How exciting! I don't think I've done anything very adventurous since... I don't even remember!" Florentine laughs. "Surely, someone out there can tell us more about this place," she suggests.
Janice: Give it some time to sink in. Up to now, to the other characters, it likely looks like roleplay or is dismissed as a moody form of grandstanding. It'll come up eventually. -Posted with Wayfinder
Oh dear... That poor girl. "Don't worry your little head off, dearie, I'm sure we'll-" Florentine begins to speak, only to be interrupted. 'Strange Police Officers'? What are you, like those ones who dance in zebra panties at my mom's pool parties? "Oh my!" She blurts out, bringing a hand to her mouth in surprise. "Dearie dearie me, what was I saying again... Oh yes. This situation is a little scary for all of us, and it's okay to be a little afraid, but don't worry too much. I'm sure we'll know a little more in no time, and then you'll be able to find your parents." The poor dear... So young... Cruel world, bless her heart...
Mr. Whistle merely shakes its head from left to right in reply. "I possess only system reference information and have no direct connection to the system. My purpose is purely to guide Mrs. Florentine." "I'm afraid Mr. Whistle knows as little as the rest of us," Florentine adds. "Believe me, I had a lot of questions for him when he first spoke to me here."
Hm. I'm not sure, should I make a separate alias for Mr. Whistle? Would that be helpful in clarifying when he's involved?
These poor dears... they must not know yet... No wonder they're so agitated. It'd be quite a shock to learn... I'd better wait until an occasion to break the news more gently happens. "It's nice to meet you, Gabriel," Florentine replies. "You can call me Florentine. As for where we are now, I'm not too sure myself. " Florentine being busy speaking with Gabriel, Mr. Whistle takes it upon himself to answer Taran's question. "You are correct. Florentine of the Spirits is a first level Unsworn Shaman."
Such language! Florentine's eyes widen at both men's invocation of the unholy realms beyond but, for the sake of harmony, avoids bringing it up. "You must think I'm quite behind the times, but I must ask: What is 'RP'?" Before anyone else can reply, the finch on Florentine's shoulder straightens up and speaks with a surprisingly clear, if slightly nasal, voice: "RP, or roleplay, refers to the act of socializing for the purpose of developing a better connection with one's Golarion avatar."
"Oh." Florentine gasps at the mention of "a way out". "I can't say I'd considered the possibility of such a thing, but I hope you do manage to find it, if it's what you're looking for." When "Mrs. Thanatos" introduced herself, Florentine responded with a polite nod. By this point, she has already seen enough unusual races going around that a Drow barely registers as unusual. "My, aren't you formal!" She exclaimed. "It's a pleasure to meet you. You can call me Florentine, it's what the other townsfolk call me."
"Oh, please forgive me for butting in," Florentine asks, noticing her neighbor's repeated movement. "But I must ask: Are you injured? Is your hand hurting?" It had been so long since she had been the one caring for someone else; ever since she'd taken that bad fall and broken her hip for the first time, it felt like she'd only been a burden... at least, until she'd come here. She recalled her first day on Golarion, and how, with Mr. Whistle's advice and the guidance of a spirit of life, she'd helped a young lad who'd gotten quite badly hurt thinking he was invincible in this other world. Thankfully, she'd patched him up like new. She was taking to her spiritual magic like a fish to water.
I'll try to get the rest of Florentine's equipment done as soon as I get a chance. EDIT: don't stare a girls Gabriel...it's creepy If only he knew, hahaha.
A young woman with flowing brown hair strolled through the market, humming a gentle song to herself, in a language perhaps unknown to the land around herself. "Fais comme l'oiseau... Ça vit d'air pur et d'eau fraîche, un oiseau..." Reflexively, she draws her white-wool-knit cloak tighter to herself, as if expecting to be cold. She soon loosens it, finding the weather to be much kinder to her than she expected. On her shoulder, unperturbed by this movement, a thrush perches quietly, occasionally chirping a few notes. "What a beautiful day today, wouldn't you agree, Mr. Whistle?" Florentine smiles. "Why, this seems like a perfect moment to work on my scarf." Finding a comfortable bench, she sits and takes the half-complete scarf and knitting needles out of her bag. The tools click softly against one another as their handler follows her pattern almost instinctively, watching what littler passersby are around as she does.

Glad to be in this one, looking forward to it. I was wondering: How much of a role would real world citizenship play here? Should I go ahead and add where in the world Florentine stems for in my profile, or is that unlikely to be relevant? |
