Liberty's Edge

My friday group decided to work on play testing the classes. They elected to a one to use our normal rules and races for this. This is due to the fact they want to know how the classes operate in our game. I am gathering initial impressions, build impressions, and how they feel it played. We are also using the deities for the homebrew world

Now to let you know some of my rules. We do 4d6 drop the lowest no stat below 10. We also don't apply the -2 to stats from races. My races are point wise on par with the allowed races in the ARG.

I will start with mine as I have to wrangle my players when they arrive to do this as well. I am running a demon-spawn tiefling. She chose a deity who could normally have paladins.

Initial Impression:
I thought on the first read through that it was a lot like a divine magus. This caught my attention, as after I played a magus for the first time I loved it. I also loved the concept as it made me want to rebuild a cleric I had built in 2nd edition AD&D. It has been a very long time since I wanted to play a divine character, which was welcome as my very first character was a Human Cleric of Celestian. I liked the look of the blessings, but felt there was a bit of a hamper with where some powers were and some better suited to other deities were too tied to domains they did not have.

Building Impressions:
The character turned out fairly well, as she got a good strength and decent stats elsewhere. She came together fairly quickly though I disliked the lack of skill points I can live with it. The free Weapon Focus along with the bonus feat might be a bit much. I will know later.

I took Improved Initiative and Toughness as my first level feats. The deity weapon is a khopesh. I have her wearing a chain shirt though I could move it up, but I wanted to keep the mobility for now. I also bought a heavy steel shield. So I am sitting at a 19 AC and with Shield of Faith I can move that up to a 21. Divine Favor will buff up my to hit and damage rolls a bit more.

So right now I feel like it is not like a magus quite as much as I had hoped. I kinda wish it had been more like the magus as that is now my go-to arcane class. I love the flexibility of the magus and was hoping to see a repeat here in the Warpriest.

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

I love this book and love the new race, skin walker. I have found one issue though in the race upon a second review because I decided to make a character with the race. I was making a witch, so I have a high intelligence.

I went to see what languages I could select only to find no languages listed. Not even just common. Is this an oversight? If so what languages should they have access to?

I made it questions as I might come up with more.

I made a Sorcerer/Oracle of Life. So far I took the revelations Channel and Safe Curing (My current GM likes to try and kill me quickly. This results in me in being in combat.)

My next Revelation is going to be Enhanced Cures. Another player and I were debating as to whether or not I could apply the revelation to a scroll I am using. This came up as he plans to make me some scrolls of Mass Cure Light Wounds.

I felt yes I could as I have to finish casting the spell on the scroll and he felt the answer was no due to him not having the revelation.

This has led to me wondering which one is right and if I can apply my revelation to scrolls or potions I make for other players.

Here are the basics. I was talking with Dark_Mistress about the lack of really sorcerer friendly prestige classes. She suggested Demoniac PrC. Sadly the GM I play under has a strict No Evil Characters rule.

She suggested reskinning it so it could fit good aligned characters. It started off with angels and went to chaotic good (I have a CG Succubus who is the Avatar of a good aligned goddess of fire and love).

Also it would help my divine players (I run a game once a week) with a prestige class that could possibly help enhance the divine nature of the character as I have a few players who want to really focus on their divine connections and exploring those paths. But they also don't want to always focus on a deity.

Here is what she wrote:

When a angeliac is killed, his soul is instantly claimed by Haven. In time, the angeliac’s soul is transformed into a angel appropriate to the greatest virtues the angeliac gloried in while he lived. Demonic Mark (Ex)
A demoniac bears the sign of his chosen demon lord as a tattoo-like brand somewhere on his body. Once per day, a demoniac can call upon the profane power of this mark to power a spell as he casts it. Doing so causes the spell to gain the chaotic and evil descriptors, and causes the spell not be expended as it is cast, allowing the demoniac to cast the spell again at a later point in the day.

Angelic Mark (Ex)
A angeliac bears the sign of his chosen archangel as a tattoo-like brand somewhere on his body. Once per day, a angeliac can call upon the holy power of this mark to power a spell as he casts it. Doing so causes the spell to gain the lawful and good descriptors, and causes the spell not be expended as it is cast, allowing the angeliac to cast the spell again at a later point in the day.

You get the idea. Just change demoniac to angeliac on most of them and they work fine.

Demonic Boon
As a demoniac gains levels, he gains Boons from his demonic patron as his body and soul become increasingly infused with demonic energies. The nature of the Boons granted varies, depending upon the demoniac’s chosen demon lord. Each demon lord grants three Boons, each more powerful than the last. At 3rd level, the demoniac gains the first boon.

At 6th level, he gains the second boon, and at 9th level, he gains the third and final boon. Consult the Demonic Obedience feat and the various demon lord descriptions for details on demonic Boons. When a demonic boon grants a spell-like ability, his caster level for the spell-like ability equals his total character level. This ability allows a demoniac to access these Boons earlier than normal; it does not grant additional uses of the Boons once the character reaches the necessary Hit Dice to earn the Boons normally.

Make up some archangels and use the demon lord boons as equals.

Demonic Form becomes Angelic Form and just change a couple of spots where it says DR vs good to vs evil etc and it works.

For CG I would name it a Azataiac and leave the chaotic parts in on the demoniac and just change the evil to good and then make a few other changes like those i suggested. i honestly think that PrC is very easy to switch to any other alignment and makes a good PrC for a Sorc.

So the thing is I'm looking for thoughts on reskinning this to remain as balanced as possible. Obviously the special requirements need to be redone.

For the being nearly killed by a demon I'm thinking saved or healed by a celestial (of the class type) could work.

Also obviously we need patrons. I know an Angel book is coming out, but this might be useful earlier rather than later given how the campaigns I'm in are running. Besides Angels won't cover the other possible celestial Patrons.

Last night we finally settled into a full play of the Beta with all characters converted over to Pathfinder Beta. The issue that finally came up was in the trained skills, as in they are not noted on the character sheet.

Normally this is not an issue for me, but I had a couple of knowledge checks and a player who is still new to the D20 system used knowledges he had no training in.

My only comment on this would be to request that something be added to denote any skills you must have a rank in to use as they require a great deal of training.
