Thanks - feel even worse after the kind words, just honestly don't think I'll have the time to fully commit looking ahead. If GMTwiceDead appeciates that he may have to DMPC Fernu over the coming months (offshore interwebbage can be poor at best) then I'm happy to stick around and keep building on her... but understand if you'd prefer someone who'll be able to given more (especially given the very high standard of characters submitted during recruitment)

Very humbled :S

Much appreciated Garin - as I mentioned been looking forward to playing Fernu for some time; but really don't think I'll have the time to do her (and the game) justice.

As for my own PBP - is merely in the planning stage and likely will be for the foreseeable weeks to come... (lucky for me I have a patient group!)

GM: Twice Dead et al.

Know the game is in its infancy but it looks likely I'm going to have to drop out at the first hurdle. Just back to work today after the festive break and the increased workscope for 2013 means loads more training/work for me in the coming months (both here in Scotland and over in Norway - I'm in Oil & Gas)

Couple this with me offering to run an Invitational Kingmaker pbp and I've real concerns about giving the best I can to both the character and you guys.

Difficult call for me as I've been knocking at the door with Fernu for a good few years regards this AP, but don't want to be a token poster in what promises to be an excellent game.

Apologies to all - feel free to bring in one of the very capable replacements GM Twice Dead Prof, and hope you didn't feel I was wasting anyones time - not my style and always give 100% to my games and fellow players.

No not about to Intimidate, Fernu is just preparing to throwdown with the mob leader... she's point and shoot kinda gal

The scarred Shoanti woman cracks her neck, then shifts her weight into a fighting stance;

"Prove? Fool. He opposed the undead. I know this. Doubt me? Then fight me."

Hearing the others talk... parlay with these fools only caused the anger within Fernu to rise.

She had journeyed this bleak land to repay a debt and now... now these chattel would stand in her way... No.

In thickly accented Common the tall, scarred woman whispers to the other coffin bearers in a harsh voice;

"Take the load. Find the strength. I deal with the loud one."

Like a predatory cat the woman moves from your ranks and purposefully forward to meet the group, and specifically the big man with the big mouth.

She stands, corded muscle in her back and shoulders tight, cestus encased hands flexing, eyes cast to the muddy ground and speaks once more - voice hard like gravel;

"Let us pass. Let us pass or I bury you also..."

Great to be selected - looking forward to this one.

Well done all - see you in the game thread :)

What are your expectations from the GM/game?

As others have said pacing the game and giving the players a canvas for both atmosphere and characterisation. As a GM I like to set the bar - interesting NPCs, challenging encounters and bringing the world "alive" (or dead as the case may be!)

As Edrik mentioned above - a gothic feel to the game would be great. Like all good horrors it's what we don't see initially that creeps us out :)

What are your expectations from other players?
Co-operation, characterisation and fun. Its a game at the end of the day, getting precious or argumentative is just destructive to the whole vibe. Respect is the watchword here.

For everyone it's communication - RL gets busy then give everyone a heads up goes a long way.

Forgot my wealth roll, Fernu as she is, is built on average wealth (105gp)

3d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 6) = 16

Boost! More coin for the scrapper :)

Hey Scranford - we meet again hombre :)

GM Twice Dead most interested...

Here's Fernu Fears Nothing (a exiled Shoanti Barbarian (Brutal Pugilist/Urban Barbarian archetypes) for your consideration... She was put together for an unsuccessful Carrion Crown submission a good while ago.

Backstory:

These are in her profile but I've repeated them here...

Fernu first came across Professor Lorrimor as a young girl, albeit one with a somewhat headstrong attitude towards life (and death). The Professor came to her village in the Mindspin Mountains in order to research and study Shoanti burial rites, and was luckily on hand when Fernu’s curiosity of the kind old man’s work got the better of her...

Whilst in the field studying Skoan-Quah protocols to combat undeath he observed a hungry ghast being repelled by funeral wards. Unbeknowst to him a inquisitive Fernu had shadowed Professor Lorrimor, and unshielded by his enchantments attracted its deadly attentions. Quickly overcome by the fell creature’s corrupt stench and touch, Fernu would have no doubt joined the legion of undeath, save for Lorrimor’s timely intervention in driving the hungry ghast off.

Her survival came at a price; the ghast’s corrupt touch left Fernu sensitive to the undead; able to see beyond the veil - something her tribe saw as a blessing from the guardians of the dead and Pharasma herself. Perhaps a weightier price came in the honour binding of Fernu’s fate and life to the Professor’s as a debt owed in protecting the young girl.

While he politely declined her guardianship, the Skoan-Quah saw Fernu as a girl whose fate was no longer her own. The weight of this honour debt, coupled with her increased alienation within the tribe saw Fernu eventually drift from her people and into the “civilised” world. There her anxiety and guilt of an obligation unpaid developed into a fierce antagonism given outlet through brawling and street fights.

When she heard of the Professor’s death and subsequent summons to Ravengro, Fernu saw an opportunity to finally repay the debt and honour the man who was the unbeknownst custodian of her fate.

What motivates her?
Honour and a debt unpaid. Winning the fight against live... Fernu is a driven young woman with more than a hint of bitterness regarding his lost place from kith and kin. In short she wants more than anything to belong once again...

What are their strengths and weaknesses?
Her strengths are also her weaknesses; She has seen beyond the veil and no longer fears it nor death. As a result she is resolute and fearless, but with a anger than can temper this to recklessness and a refusal to back down.
If they were a piece of furniture, what type of furniture would they be?
A locked chest; robust and fuctional; empty at first sight but with hidden compartments containing lost treasure...

As for me; am/have been a player in a number of pbp on the boards here (both long running and short lived lol) and also run my own game too - feel free to look over some of my aliases to get a jist for my playing style/games involved in. Typically can post at least once per day (am based in Bonnie Scotland).

Cheers for the consideration :)

Like Marchello I'd run with 5-10 to varying degrees of detail.

Weekends is more hit and miss; if I'm busy then posting will drop, however if I get some clear air then I can fire in some detailed posts.

Like to throw Fernu into the mix.

She's currently built off a 20pt buy so need a little number crunching there, but won't have a drastic change to her current form.

DMHaldin:

My gut feeling is that given the Professor's interest in macabre knowledge, villagers may have heard tale or perhaps even seen "these strange tattooed barbarians from the Cinderlands". While they wouldn't discern between clans or Quahs, they would have a healthy respect/fear/mistrust for the Shoanti (and there may well be "folklore" surrounding their practices and traditions.

In effect I see Fernu as a combination of Queequeg from Moby Dick and Gina Carano lol.

GM:

Any feedback and questions regarding Fernu is most welcome :) Like the idea of the dilemma that she has to get her hands on her foes (which potentially causes problems with some undead etc)

Will focus on rage powers that augment her fighting style and tie in with her monicker of "fearing nothing" (apart from the obligation to the Prof :)

Here's Fernu Fears Nothing for consideration...

Any feedback more than welcomed.

Cheers

I think my backstory and premise would work a little better starting off as Bard, but I said Magus so I'm not sure if it would be a problem to go Bard for 1 before I went Magus the rest?

Grigori & DM_Patcher:

@Grigori: There's a trait in the Humans of Golarian book that is prefectly suited to your character's background;

Harrow Born (Varisian): You grew up around the mysterious fortune-tellers known throughout Ustalav and Varisia. You start play with a harrow deck passed down from a relative. Because of your skill with fortune-telling, you gain a +1 trait bonus on initiative checks.

not sure if you've already seen it/considered it but thought it might be useful should DMP allow it :)

Let's give this a little bump.
A bump?

Just a post to "bump" the thread up the posting order - puts it at a higher profile on the boards.

(If there's high traffic or loads of new threads up and running, then things can get lost in the mire pretty quickly.)

Yes - thank you for feedback. Think i'm ready for another look. And thanks to Fernu, who I stole liberally from :)

No probs - happy to help and happy that DM_Patcher liked Fernu :)

Fernu updated, likewise any feedback [+/-] would be useful.

DM Patcher wrote:
@Fernu Fears Nothing: The trait looks fine with me - nothing ridiculous about it, just means he's a monstrously tall man.

Or woman even ;)

Am definately interested - currently in a couple of other pbp at present and can post at least once per day...

Here's Fernu Fears Nothing for consideration...

Need to pick a third trait - would this Shoanti trait from Humans of Golarion be permissable:

DM Patcher:

Bred for War (Shoanti): You tower above most other humans and possess a physique of hard, corded muscle.

Benefit: You gain a +1 trait bonus on Intimidate checks and a +1 trait bonus on your CMB because of your great size. You must be
at least 6 feet tall. [Humans of Golarion p30]

Would need to bump up Fernu's physical size a little but that's no biggie - otherwise I'll go for a further bonus to fear checks to emphasise her nom de guerre :)
