I'm sorry I've not advanced this, I have all my materials for this campaign on my home computer and have barely been home for some time. This weekend I'll have some time and will try to upload so I can access it from Work/Cell.

Hi. I'm out of town with barely any cell phone signal. I'm sorry to have given no warning but it's been a familiar emergency. Should be back home by Wednesday at most.

Apologies again.

Happs smiles at Maren Calistria's cunt! And they say elves have amazing sight! You've mistaken me for a gentleman. Was it my fancy clothes? he says as he gestures smelling the wet leathers covering him Or the high company I keep moving his arm in an arc towards his men Or is it just you think I'm fucking daft? his smiles widens giving him a maniacal semblance If you had the numbers I'd be as dead as that fat idiot Gormly. I'm getting tired of this game. Kill them.

Everybody roll for initiative. Those out of sight (Felix, Yzgar and Luthian) get to take a surprise round

The man smiles at Johund Well, I'll be fucked sideways with a sword, I'm pretty certain you're not Happs' men but let me confirm it he turns his head to the right and in a falsetto voice says Are these your men Happs? he turns left Of course they aren't you fucking idiot he answers himself in a deeper voice.
He turns to Johund, his smile even wider There you have it! he motions to his men to ready their weapons Now, if you'd be so nice to introduce you, I take you have killed Gormly, can't blame you that cunt was disgusting. But I can't let anyone murder my men, that's something only I can do. he looks to the clouds pensively Can you pay or shall I strip your corpses?

The man atop the horse is dressed in leather and speaks in a calm tone [b]Who are you?[/b[] he says as he enters the post followed by his men. Only Maren and Rat are visible as he comes and he exudes confidence as a result.

Oleg's Outpost

The door creaks as it opens to show a man astride a horse followed by at least other six on foot. They all look armed, angry and tired.

Map

Consider Columns to be letters A, B, C... to AD
Rows as numbers 1 to 24.

I'll try to post a numbered version later but I'm having trouble with my home computer.
Please tell me in which square is everyone.

No need to get me tied, I'll just say I hid when you attacked Gormly she smiles Hope you survive but when you don't I hope Pharasma looks kindly on you all says Svetlana

Svetlana is completely shocked at the sight of the bleeding man on her floor Hide the body under the latrines at the back of the outpost, that will cover the smell... and if he's yet breathing put him in head first she trembles as she speaks.

With one last punch Gormly falls face down to the ground, blood coming from his nose and left ear mixes with water and mud. He tries to breath but water gets into his lungs, and he is unable to turn himself.

You need some help don't you, you fucking pussy the fat man says as he tries to stab Luthian again, but his hand shakes too much showing the fear he's trying to hide.

Will Save: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
Perception: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (14) - 1 = 13

Attack: 1d20 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (8) + 4 - 2 = 10

About 20' from the window.

Avoiding Luthian's punch Gormly stabs him swiftly, getting his sword into his chest and wounding him.

Gormly Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Gormly Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Svetlana looks at the party as if they're crazy but says There's no cellar and the only other exits are the windows. If you're decided to do this please lock me up in the storeroom so when they kill you they don't think I've helped you

Gormly's nose gnashes under Luthian's punch, he slices at his attacker with his short sword but fails to find an opening on the antipaladins armour. I'll fucking kill you and your fucking friends! he swears
Gormly Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Gormly turns towards Luthian as he spits blood and one of the few teeth he had left You fucking cunt! I'll slit your throat and fuck your corpse through it!

Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 3
Not anytime soon it appears

As Luthian leaves the house he can see through the rain the shape of Gormly standing under the roofed storage area in the center of the outpost, he has his sword in his hand and is watching intently at the gates, he doesn't seem to have seen the antipaladin exit the house.

The fat man seems seething seeing the party has no intention of leaving the house and after a few minutes says I'm going outside to crap he grabs his sword on the wya out Make yourselves at home he adds sarcastically.

As soon as the door closes Svetlana says You're going to get killed if you treat Happs the same way as him, Gormly is an idiot and a coward, Happs is a f*+~ing lunatic, three months ago a group of adventurers tried to ambush him when he came for his payment. He had them skinned alive and forced my husband to eat their raw flesh before killing him for defying his orders she shudders at the memory Since that happened he left one of his men in the outpost, rotating them. When he comes he always brings at least half a dozen men alongside, sometimes more.

Seeing he’s clearly outnumbered the man slowly lays down his sword on the table and raises his hands I guess we’ve gotten to a bad start, friends? he says forcing a smile that shows a mouth lacking half its teeth That… woman is no lady, she’s a f~#$ing b!$%+ that will stab your backses if you don’t keep her disciplined he shows the scars on his head I won the right to use her for a fortnight fair and square in our lottery, if you join up with Happs you’ll get your chance for a ride too he winks leerily at them She won’t admit it, but she is grateful to have a real man and not that poor excuse of a husband she had he continues Happs should arrive any moment now, you should go to the shack outside, he has a temper and doesn’t like finding people he has not invited in his home he pauses for a second He’ll come with at least a dozen other men! he smiles again But I’ll put a good word for you and forget this encedent, nobody can say Gormly is a rancorous man

That's the kind of conversation that would look great IC :P

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I set this scene as an opportunity for some characters to show that they may not have principles but they have STANDARDS.

When I've GMed evil campaigns in RL I've seen that players enjoy the thought process of "I may be a bastard that murders his enemies in their sleep and enslaves their families, but there's depths even I wouldn't sink to. At least if there's no benefit to it"

And being evil means being selfish. Helping someone because it can benefit you later isn't a good action in my opinion.

The woman turns to those still waiting by the door and says I'm sorry, but you'll have to stay in the shack in front of the main house. I'll bring you some firewood and soup in a minute

The woman hesitates for a second and before she can react Johund has barged inside the house. She lowers her head again and seems to shrink.
Johund enters the room the woman had signalled, the room is a 15 by 15 feet square, with a fireplace to the right of the door an armchair in front of it and a long table with half a dozen chairs on the opposite walls.
On the armchair Johund sees a fat man, his naked upper body covered in tattoos and his bald head covered in scars. He stands suddenly when he sees the cleric coming in.
Who the f#*% are you? Svetlana!! Who the f@!+ is this c$&+ and what's he doing here? he set his hand on a short sword standing on a table next to him You know only Happs men are allowed in the main house!

The group hears a shout coming from inside the house Get the f*$#ing door you g!@&!!ned woman! You know they don't like being left outside waiting and if they get angry you're gonna feel the back of my hand tonight! a few seconds later a small woman in her thirties opens the door, her face fixed on the ground at first she sees Luthian metal boots and raises her head showing a quite pretty face, of fine features, covered in bruises. I... I wasn't expecting visitors, you work with Happs, yes? she asks coyly as she stands to the side Come in, the fire is stoked, I'll prepare some soup she says as she points to a door just behind her.

Map of the outpost

The gates open and behind them an empty courtyard receives the party. Puddles and mud cover most of it. In front of them a fenced area covered by a barely maintained roof holds several boxes and barrels. To their left hand there's a building, the stench of wet horses coming from inside. To their right hand two buildings, one well cared with smoke coming from its chimney, the other with its windows boarded up and visible holes on its thatching.

At the end of Book 1 the characters receive some resources to begin building their kingdom. In your case these will come from a different source than standard Kingmaker. Your characters will also receive a weekly stipend as long as they attain the objectives established in their charter. The charter is very similar to standard but not identical, I'll post the modified version as soon as I can.

Also is anyone having trouble with the New posts feature? I just realised it wasn't working for me.

Luthian wrote:

The site making it very hard to add my character details to the profile

So ignore the current stats....

Just sent you a PM about that. D'OH!

There's an antipaladin who is full BAB but if you want to go that route there'll be no problems from my side.

We have a strongly Lawful inclined group so I'm guessing loyalties won't be much of a problem. I expect Johund, being more of a free soul to be a counterpoint to the rest without causing too much conflict.

It's been several weeks since the party left Brevoy, financed by a mysterious benefactor that offered them support to establish a buffer territory between the northern kingdom and the River Kingdoms.
Their knowledge of the identity of this person is practically non-existent, they know he had enough power to get them a charter allowing them to hunt bandits in the Stolen Lands, and it's signed by a representative of house Surtova.

The rain keeps falling down on the group as they finally sight the rotting palisade surrounding Oleg's post. The mud sucks down their boots with every step they take, their feet get wet and cold as they walk towards the post.
The closed gates seem barely able to stop animals from getting in but anyone with enough determination would get through them in a few minutes. The smoke coming out of the chimney in one of the buildings inside the post brings the promise of a warm hearth.

Ok, it's been really difficult trimming the list down to this, I want to thank everyone for their amazing submissions and be sure if we lose someone to RL (as usually happens in my experience) you'll be the first I'll ask to come in.

The party will be composed of six characters.

  • Luthian by Seth86
  • Felix "Lucky Gits" Season by Helikon
  • Yzgar the Runt by Peet
  • Maren Azurill by Evgeni Genadiev
  • Johund by Something Wicked
  • Ratna "Rat" Mahajan by OllieTwist.

I've tried to mix people with lots of post and people newer to the forums to give them a chance. Hope we all enjoy the game

    Come over here, please

  • Welcome everyone.

This being an evil campaign I feel I must set some things clear before we start.

First, you may be evil not IDIOTS, by that I mean, betraying your allies for little reason, killing people just for fun, and that short of thing are out. I will enforce this if I must but I trust we're all adult enough to play evil but believable character.
Second, since the group are not paragons of virtue some enemies may be, but others will be WORSE than you, expect to fight the kind of characters that are beyond redemption, a bandit may be put to work for you, but their leader surely would be the kind of sick bastard even you feel needs killing.
Third, I feel one of the main pros of an evil campaign is that evil can be PROACTIVE, by that I mean, if you want your character to plan something long term you can either discuss it over here or PM me and we'll do our best to incorporate it to the game.
Fourth, as I said your enemies will be BAD MEN, but if anyone has some kind of thing they absolutely don't want to see in game please tell me so I can avoid it.

Now, I hope we all enjoy the game and have lots of fun. I'll put up a IC post later today so you can dot it, and am hoping to start the campaign as soon as everyone has confirmed they're in.

I'll have a look and get back to you if the forum works for 5 minutes.

    JDPhipps wrote:
Thanks for that ruling. I'm thinking I'm going to go with A Kensai/Hexcrafter/Eldritch Archer Magus, all things considered. Can I ask why feats limited to the Core books? I know some people do it because its all they have access to, but the PFSRD has all the currently published feats available from all sources if that's your issue. I mention it because there's a non-Core feat I'm interested in taking at some point if I have the space.

If anyone wants a feat from a non-core source he can ask and I will have a look at it and most probably approve, but my knowledge beyond the core books is limited so I can't preapprove anything.

    Kevin O'Rourke 440 wrote:

Evil_DM_Keddah how do you feel about Advanced Armor/Weapon Training. They've been put into the fighter entry in the PFSRD if you are unfamiliar with them.

What I feel about Advanced Armor/Weapon Training is that they give Fighters some much needed love and they're certainly allowed!

    Ratna "Rat" Mahajan wrote:

Alright, and here's an application for Ratna Mahajan, who everyone just calls "Rat". They've never particularly disagreed with being given that nickname.

Rat doesn't particularly want to rule, per se, but they absolutely want the power and money they haven't had access to for most of their life, and they'd be happy with being counsel, or an advisor or something. On the other hand, hey, if it turns out nobody else is particularly cut out for the job...

Also, I'd meant to ask and forgotten about it - when you say feats from core sources, is that specifically Core feats, as in, just PHB? I'd originally planned on leaning pretty heavily on Ultimate Intrigue for Rat, is that acceptable? Fine if not, I can definitely still figure things out, they'd just be a tad less effective.

I meant the Core line as in:

  • Core Rulebook
  • Advanced Player's Guide
  • Advanced Race Guide
  • Advanced Class Guide
  • Ultimate Magic
  • Ultimate Combat
  • Ultimate Intrigue
  • Occult Adventures

    So Ultimate Intrigue is accepted

...Someone who is not seen, and not heard, except when he needs to be... Someone whose quiet word can carry more weight than the most thunderous of roars and most pained of cries.

I have the concept of the head Vizier, of sorts. The man who suggests ideas, who guides the person sitting on the throne, and who's can be relied on to do things others aren't able or willing to do.

I am not entirely set on the class - I'm thinking either an Investigator, a Guiding Blade or a Inspired Blade Swashbuckler, or an Arcanist, probably leaning the most towards the first one. Lying through his teeth, and bending the truth until it nears breaking point would be something he'd do effortlessly and with finesse to equal experienced monarchs.

I think I'll choose the class later on, if that's alright - the concept will stay the same, more or less. "The means are irrelevant. Whether by sword, spell, or a slippery tongue, the River Kingdoms will be ours."

That fits the campaign perfectly, I think the Investigator fits it better but the other classes would make an interesting take on the concept.

    JDPhipps wrote:
Would you be willing to allow the Kensai magus to take a ranged weapon as his chosen weapon, if I also take Eldritch Archer?

    Yes, that'd be allowed.

    Kroama wrote:

When you say the game may allow PbP, does that assume it's going to be something else? Sorry. I'm not experienced on the boards, and always assumed PbP to be default in Recruitment, and don't see the alternative means of playing.

Also want to ask and get it out of the way, Item Creation?

I meant PvP as in Player versus Player. I made a mistake.

Item creation is allowed, actually in Kingmaker I take for granted someone is going to use it.

    Seth86 wrote:

GM EDK, does the concept of my AP fit? or should i rather get another concept? or build even?

    Thanks :)

He does for. I'd need to see a bit about his personality to consider how he'd fit on a party. Party dynamics are one of my main worries for this game.

Also, being an LE antipaladin I'd be interested in an abridged version of his code.

    Yzgar the Runt wrote:

Are you looking for over-the-top evil? Bloodshed and Torture? I am not the kind of player who revels in that but I don't mind cold-hearted characters.

Yzgar was originally intended as a fill-in for a game that needed a replacement at level 2, but could be easily statted back to level 1. Actually the crunch is not finished anyway. But the background is done.

Yzgar is a half-orc sorcerer with the Serpentine Bloodline and the Razmiran Priest archetype from Inner Sea Magic. But he broke with the church of Razmir and decided to try and become his own living god instead. He was originally intended to be CN.

He has three traits as the previous recruitment gave a campaign trait for free. Since most of the KM campaign traits are kind of lame, I would get rid of that one if we aren't required to have a campaign trait.

Not looking for over the top Eeeeevil. I look for characters who don't care if they have to get dirty to achieve their objectives.

Ok, so I'm very interested in Evil Games, If run right they are a ton of fun. few questions

    1. I am looking for a PBP game... so did you mean PVP when you stated:

    Evil_DM_Keddah wrote:

I'm looking for Evil or Neutral characters, no psycopaths unable to work as a team, please, the game may allow PbP but only if perfectly justified and agreed by everyone involved.

This will be a mature game where the bad guys have to be even badder than you, and the good guys are your enemies too!

    2. Is leadership allowed? Kingmaker generally encourages it from wheat I understand.

    3. How long have you been DMing and how many PBPs have you run? what do you see as the greatest danger to the longevity of a game and how do you plan to counteract that?

    1. Yes, I meant PvP, my mistake.

    2. As indicated above both Leadership and Vile Leadership are allowed.
    3. I've been DMing in RL for about ten years, PbP I've run two full campaigns and am currently running several. I see lack of constancy as the greatest risk, letting players feel uninvolved as a second.

I shouldn't... But it seems like a great chance for certain types of characters who wouldn't otherwise get to be played most of the time. I'll probably drop something in here.

    Same here.

On the topic of 'out there' races, how do you feel about Androids? Numeria is right next door, and I have a couple ideas that could work with it. My personal favorite is the Nanoshade archetype for the ninja, which replaces a lot of its eastern flair with a more cybernetic bent instead. If this idea is too out there to begin with, I'd be cool with trying something else, but if it's at least potentially okay I'd like to submit it.

Also, I don't know if you're familiar with it, but there's a 3rd party Unchained Ninja to bring them up to par with the Unchained Rogue.

Android may work but Nanoshade is a bit too much for me. I'll look at the Unchained Ninja and get back to you.

    BeastMasterFTW wrote:
is Leadership allowed? And if we take a class that grants it as a bonus feat, do we get a replacement?

Leadership and Vile Leadership are allowed. If a class grants it as a bonus you may choose which one but not replace it by other feat if you chose it before.

Also Cohorts will be full-fledged NPCs and act as such, I've seen too many players try to treat them as summoned creatures so feel it necessary to give warning in advance.

I've reread my opening post and realized that I forgot my house-rule: Perception is a class skill for everyone.

Hmmmm four standard characters by Sunday, so this will go quickly.

When it comes down to it I prefer melee or skilled. I will put together a lawful evil human Aldori swordlord with either the Surtova Noble Born trait or Sword Scion.

Would it be ok if I create one character but show him with two separate classes so you can pick if you like him as a melee character or as a skilled character?

edit Since you put it out there, would you permit an Azata-blooded Aasimar? I'm sure those Surtovians have an angel in there background somewhere...

I personally prefer core races, if you want something beyond them I need something either in the background or the personality of your character that justifies him not being just a human, if you can make it it's allowed.

As for making two submissions with the same character no problem from me there.
