Esrian moves towards the staircases towards Nibiru, avoiding the shadow as she does so, but sends off a pulse of cleansing energy at it.

2-action Heal Channel Energy, Undead Bane (Fort DC 21): 4d8 + 12 ⇒ (3, 7, 3, 2) + 12 = 27

Esrian skids to a stop to keep herself from running headfirst into the shadow, "Sarenrae, cleanse this creature!" she prays, and a burst of flame erupts from her fingertips to engulf the undead.

Burning Hands (level 2) DC 21: 5d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 3, 4) = 16

Her spell cast, she changes course, retreating farther back into the sanctified area to stay out of reach from the monster's cold grasp.

Esrian follows Godfrey right on his heels, overtaking him as they enter the foyer.

Same as Godfrey, but I have 25 foot move.

Esrian relaxes for a moment as her wounds close and the ghost dissipates, then nods in agreement as Godfrey returns to the dining room, joining him in re-barricading the window.

I swear, it is far too easy for enemies to hit us compared to how hard it is to hit them. Also, it's weird how stationary casters are encouraged to be. I can't so much as wiggle my toe without cutting into my action economy.

Esrian staggers as the furniture slams into her unexpectedly, but does double duty, healing herself and her allies as she channels energy to destroy the ghost.

3-action Heal (DC 21): 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 5, 5) + 5 = 22+7 against the ghost

Will Save: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28

Esrian easily maintains her composure at the surprising appearance of the ghost, and, in lieu of knowing where it went, channels energy in the area around them to try and catch it in the burst.

Burst Heal, Undead's Bane, Staff of Heal: 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 1, 8) + 5 = 21+7 damage against the ghost if it's in the area- Will DC 21. Everyone heals 21, though.

Oof, those saves... well, at least those rolls weren’t used to attack.

Esrian knows her place in the fight, and, without a clear target in the dining room, sends another fireball from her wand at the visible undead.

Esrian moves to a position where she has a clear line of sight into the salon and prepares herself to cast.

Esrian flicks her wand, and shoots off a fireball to engulf the attacking undead.

Esrian takes up a position where she has a decent line of sight into both the dining room and the salon. Hoping it won't be needed, she drops her shield in a corner, replacing it with her wand of fireballs as she prepares to blast the attackers.

"I must agree" Esrian says, in a mixture of bemusement and annoyance, "I think you may want to hold back from charging into the fray so quickly- do you know any ranged attack spells?" she asks as she finishes barricading the window with Lucvi, "They don't seem to have missile weapons, so staying back from the action might be a good idea."

"Good to hear. Can you give me a hand barricading the Salon?" Esrian asks Lucvi, "It's strange that vampire spawn got in, though. Don't they have to be invited in or something like that?"

Action: barricading the salon (asking Lucvi for help)- the Dining room is already barricaded, right?

Yes- everyone near me would heal 18 HP from the Channel.

Esrian moves back as the front door undead fall, and with a prayer to Sarenrae, unleashes a wave of fire onto the two creatures she could reach.

Stride, Burning Hands

So.... hooray for mid-battle cleric nerfs? I mean, we get another cantrip, which isn't the worst, but isn't the greatest either. Ah well, at least they're changing stuff. Not sure how I feel about the changes, but at least they exist.

"Blast it William, now I can't fireball them." Esrian mutters as the creatures savage him. Hoping he can withstand the assault, Esrian lifts her staff and shield high, slamming them into the ground and sending a blast of positive energy out in all directions.

A quick shorthand answer to any question regarding the playtest: if it has any kind of synergy or sounds cool, it doesn't work.

Esrian strikes a stance, bracing for the attack as it comes, and as the undead burst through, she's ready, sending a weaker wave of fire over them, wanting to conserve her strength later.

Esrian runs upstairs and gets dressed, grabbing her shield and throwing on her armor before returning downstairs.

Donning medium armor takes 5 minutes so far as I can tell.

Fort DC 16: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 No save bonus from my armor, unfortunately. Not that it matters.

Esrian recoils as the undead swarm forward, but quickly recovers. "Sarenrae, let your fire cleanse this place." she intones, and shoots a fireball to the ground outside the door, trying to engulf most of the undead in cleansing fire.

Mainly targeting purple, blue, and green, but hoping to try and catch red if possible.

Esrian joins the others in the kitchen with her note, ”What do you all make of this?” she asks.

Esrian pages through a few of the histories, and re-familiarizes herself with the basics of the Dark Tapestry (having been a while since her last encounter with anything of that nature).

Esrian likewise takes off her armor and stashes it in the next room over from Godfrey, then wanders the grounds, exploring the library and paging through a couple of the books.

"Of course. Is there anything we can help you with? If not, we will leave you to your studies." Esrian tells the professor.

Esrian sighs at her more poetic companions, "We've been sent by an order that oversees many things. In this case, they are trying to determine what exactly the mysterious devices known as 'countdown clocks' are counting down to. The Order has a suspicion that it has something to do with the Dominion of the Black, which Dr. Oscilar is something of an expert on, is he not? I realize that he's probably not in the best state of mind at the moment, but we wouldn't be bothering you if it weren't truly desperate."

Esrian looks as though she's considering about saying something, but stays silent, shooting Godfrey a slightly exasperated look.
What happened to pious? she thinks.

Sure, why not?
"Godfrey." Esrian greets her colleague with a nod, "Good to see you again. It's been a while."

She looks at the gnome with a bit of skepticism, "Doomsday may always be at hand, but Rovagug remains firmly locked in his prison, and until the day comes when he escapes, we remain safe, purging the world of evil."

I don't have much in the way for a backstory, especially not written up, but I have an image of Esrian as taking the 'cleansing' part of 'cleansing flame' to the extreme, and serves as something of an undead hunter from time to time.

Esrian arrives at the inn early, not having too far to travel, and waits at a larger table, figuring that other Palatine clerics wouldn't be hard to spot, and curious as to whether she'd recognize any of them.

Well, the new boosts to blasting spells are nice. Still not sure it hits the heart of the problem, though, of generally underwhelming spells. But it's an improvement, that's for sure.

Well, I made a Blaster Cleric, thanks to the Fire Domain, nearly every spell I have prepared is either Fireball or Burning Hands. I can't shake the feeling that I would have unequivocally been better off just going Wizard or Sorcerer instead of trying to make a semi-unconventional, but cool and thematic, build work.
