I hope he's okay. Like, didn't get hit by a bus or anything. :(

Dammit man, I'm a fighter, not a doctor! Are you telling me that this PbP has actually ceased living?!

Man, everyone's so paranoid; you all saw that I tied him up, right? What could possibly go wrong? ;)

Elsbeth carefully tilts the vial, pouring the contents into the unconscious dwarf's mouth.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Standing back up, Elsbeth waits to see if he awakens.

Female Human Fighter (Tactical Opportunist) 1 — Init +6; Perc +6; SnsMtv +6; AC 18(19); CMD 16; F +4, R +2, W +1; HP 8/13

Elsbeth stands quietly for several moments, her brow furrowed in thought. Eventually, she speaks.

"Here's what it comes down to." she begins. "We don't know whether the dwarf is friend or foe. If we kill him—or leave him to die; same difference—and he is indeed innocent, then we are all murderers."

"But even aside from that, he could have life-saving information about our predicament or about these caverns regardless of whether he's a potential ally. Throwing away that potential boon would be unwise."

"Finally, if he is in fact innocent, we could add him to our ranks, and increase the odds of survival for all of us."

Elsbeth holds up the last potion of cure light wounds, scans the group, and continues: "When you add it all up, the choice is clear: we need to revive this dwarf and find out more about him."

With that, Elsbeth unstoppers the vial and kneels next to the helpless spellcaster to feed the potion to him.

Leaving it open-ended just in case anyone wishes to intervene; thought it would be rude to go ahead and roll the healing without giving anyone a chance to respond. :)

Do we know about how far into the day we are?

Female Human Fighter (Tactical Opportunist) 1 — Init +6; Perc +6; SnsMtv +6; AC 18(19); CMD 16; F +4, R +2, W +1; HP 8/13

Elsbeth only half-listens to the poorly-timed philosophical debate happening around her as she deals with what's in front of her. Recognizing that the mysterious dwarf is no longer in imminent danger of death from his wounds, she retrieves a coil of rope from her pack and begins to carefully bind his hands and feet.

Escaping the bonds will be DC 24.

Rising to her feet, Elsbeth does her best to wipe the blood from her hands, then addresses the blabbering menfolk.

"Enough!" she shouts harshly, "Regardless of whose philosophy is best, any decision needs to factor in our available resources."

Elsbeth picks up the healing potion from among the dwarf's gear, and continues, "This will replace the healing potion I had to drink a minute ago, and that's all the significant resources I've got. What does everyone else have at this point? Potions? Scrolls? Spells? We've got to stay on top of our inventory, so start calling out what you've got."

Female Human Fighter (Tactical Opportunist) 1 — Init +6; Perc +6; SnsMtv +6; AC 18(19); CMD 16; F +4, R +2, W +1; HP 8/13

Visibly disapproving of Izah's interest in identifying the dwarf's possessions while his life hung in the balance, Elsbeth turns her attention to Aaliyah.

"Thanks," she says, "I'm not sure I could have stabilized him on my own." Thinking a moment, she adds, "We should revive him and see if we can learn anything, but it's probably best if we restrain him first, given how panicked he was."

Elsbeth reaches for her backpack, then winces slightly. "Okay, first things first." She retrieves the potion she'd been carrying and drinks it, grunting slightly as her wounds begin to close.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

"A bit weaker than I'd hoped, but it'll have to do." With that, she pulls out some rope and begins to carefully bind the dwarf.

Female Human Fighter (Tactical Opportunist) 1 — Init +6; Perc +6; SnsMtv +6; AC 18(19); CMD 16; F +4, R +2, W +1; HP 8/13

Elsbeth grits her teeth as she tries in vain to stop the bleeding, her hair accumulating crusts of drying blood from her attempts to keep the sweat out of her eyes with the back of her wrists.

"Does anyone have any healing magic left?" Elsbeth asks in a harried half-shout. "Even just something to stabilize him?"

Not sure if the second Heal you rolled for me is for this final round, or if it happened right before the final round. If no one busts out some healing in the time I've already spent on Heal checks, I'd like to force-feed him the CLW potion I'm carrying, but I'm not sure where we stand with the timing exactly.

Female Human Fighter (Tactical Opportunist) 1 — Init +6; Perc +6; SnsMtv +6; AC 18(19); CMD 16; F +4, R +2, W +1; HP 8/13

"Wait!" Elsbeth shouts, gripping her wounds, "I think he might still be alive, and he seemed confused and panicked. We should see if we can save him."

With that, Elsbeth kneels beside him and attempts to put pressure on whichever wound might seem to be bleeding the most.

"Well, let's make sure we're all wearing our best smiles then, shall we?" Elsbeth comments, in a tone somewhere between exasperation and dismissal. "Anyway, we should keep moving." She nods in the direction of the exit, holding her lamp aloft.

"Are you alright, Aaliyah?" Elsbeth asks, sheathing her sword as she approaches the dervish. "You went down hard; do you need additional attention?"

As she speaks and waits for an answer, Elsbeth picks up her lantern for the umpteenth time. "This is getting old," she thinks to herself. "First thing when we get out of here, I'm investing in a hands-free light source."

Female Human Fighter (Tactical Opportunist) 1 — Init +6; Perc +6; SnsMtv +6; AC 18(19); CMD 16; F +4, R +2, W +1; HP 8/13

CRB, Combat chapter wrote:

Readying an Action: You can ready a standard action, a move action, a swift action, or a free action. To do so, specify the action you will take and the conditions under which you will take it. Then, anytime before your next action, you may take the readied action in response to that condition. The action occurs just before the action that triggers it. If the triggered action is part of another character's activities, you interrupt the other character. Assuming he is still capable of doing so, he continues his actions once you complete your readied action. Your initiative result changes. For the rest of the encounter, your initiative result is the count on which you took the readied action, and you act immediately ahead of the character whose action triggered your readied action.

You can take a 5-foot step as part of your readied action, but only if you don't otherwise move any distance during the round.

So you can ready any standard or "smaller" action, and can also tack on a 5ft step if you haven't already moved. :)

I'll carry the healing potion, if there are no objections. I would nominate Michael for enlarge person, but he's not a humanoid. Same with Izah if I'm not mistaken, and it would be a detriment to Aaliyah, so... Jens?

Are these two separate checks? If so, below is the second one.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24

Looks like either way I get the easy one but not the hard one, so...

"Eyes to the ceiling!" Elsbeth shouts abruptly, putting her lantern down. "Something's coming toward us!"

Elsbeth nods to Izah, then approaches the elf. "Would you mind identifying these potions, friend?" she says, placing the vials in Aravashnial's hand.

"There's no 'lady' to my name, but yes, I'm well enough now," Elsbeth replies, examining what's left of her wounds. "Anyway, now that we've secured the area, we should search for any more gear or supplies that might be available. Starting with that warhammer, which I'm sure we could put to good use."

Elsbeth picks up the hammer and examines its balance, then gives the room a brief scan.

"Thank you, dervish," Elsbeth says, touching the now-closed wound on her neck with a sigh of relief. Hearing Jens' observation, she concurs.

"Yes, that does seem odd. Especially when the hammer is dusty as well. Undeath is one possibility, though I certainly hope that's not the case..."

Female Human Fighter (Tactical Opportunist) 1 — Init +6; Perc +6; SnsMtv +6; AC 18(19); CMD 16; F +4, R +2, W +1; HP 8/13

"Says the woman who wasn't clawed within an inch of her life," Elsbeth replies sassily to Aaliyah. Turning to the rest of the group, she continues, "Was anyone else injured? Can we spare some of our available magical healing for my wounds?"

Female Human Fighter (Tactical Opportunist) 1 — Init +6; Perc +6; SnsMtv +6; AC 18(19); CMD 16; F +4, R +2, W +1; HP 8/13

"Urngh! I can't keep up with this flurry!" Elsbeth shouts. "Sorry I couldn't hold it any longer; I hope somebody's done choking and can take my place." Raising her shield in front of her, Elsbeth retreats carefully toward where Izah guards the injured ones.

Withdrawing as a full-round action. And thank goodness for that shield, or I'd be down. O_O

Female Human Fighter (Tactical Opportunist) 1 — Init +6; Perc +6; SnsMtv +6; AC 18(19); CMD 16; F +4, R +2, W +1; HP 8/13

"Gah!" Elsbeth grunts from the wounds, and is relieved to see she no longer needs to worry about the cloud. Resuming a proper breathing pace, she quickly calls out the nature of her wounds (in an unnervingly matter-of-fact tone) then focuses on her target and presses the attack.

Well, #1 is already accounted for by the duration reduction written into the breath-holding rules. I guess #2 makes sense, though since cloudkill goes to the trouble to specify that holding one's breath *doesn't* help, I'd presumed that meant that lesser effects *can* be defended against in that way.

But hey, I've made all my saves, and that's what matters. ;)

Female Human Fighter (Tactical Opportunist) 1 — Init +6; Perc +6; SnsMtv +6; AC 18(19); CMD 16; F +4, R +2, W +1; HP 8/13

So for future reference, I guess holding one's breath before entering a stinking cloud doesn't help?

Straining to keep her gag reflex in check, Elsbeth sees the demon's flurry of attacks and decides to be a bit more defensive, swinging her shield gracefully from her back before trying to shift around behind the abomination in hopes of a better chance of hitting it.

I'm guessing with all these folks here, that a flank is only a 5ft step away? If not, feel free to take the AoO, though it'll be with my shield up.

Schrodinger's post!

If there's room to go around the cloud to the enemy:
Without a word, Elsbeth springs to action. Dropping her lantern again, this time she doesn't bother with her shield; Elsbeth moves along the perimeter of the cloud and sweeps her blade from its scabbard with shocking speed, grasping it in both hands.

If there's not:

"Indeed," Elsbeth comments in Michael's general direction. "Odds are slim that such a creature's food source would be helpful for us, but there's a chance nonetheless. Well, unless it was undead and we were to be its sustenance."

Moving cautiously, Elsbeth raises her lantern and enters the room, surveying her surroundings closely.

"The door is stuck," Elsbeth announces. "There may be helpful supplies inside, but there's also a strange buzzing sound. Perhaps a large insectoid creature of some sort, or a damaged magical device? In any case, if we intend to get into this structure, we'd best be ready for anything."

"Ignorance is always dangerous, no matter who wields it," Elsbeth comments to no one in particular. Surveying the structure that Izah identifies as being connected to Torag, she raises an eyebrow.
"Okay, but what is this structure actually for?" Elsbeth asks, as much to herself as to anyone else. Moving forward, she begins to examine it more closely.

Looking for doors, writing, secret compartments, or anything else of note. Unless it seems like it would take an impractically long time, I'll take 20 for a 26. Otherwise, take ten repeatedly for a series of 16's.

As Michael leaves the group to step forward and Izah moves back to help guard the injured, Elsbeth takes a new position at the front of the waiting party so that she defend the others or move to assist Michael quickly if things go south. "I agree with Michael," Elsbeth comments. "Even if we take the empty path, unidentified creatures are a potential risk, especially if they get hungry. Besides that, there's the possibility of gaining allies and improving everyone's situation. We should approach, leading with someone good at dealing with potentially tense social situations."

Elsbeth looks at several people one by one, then adds, "If anyone's wondering, that's not me."

Question for the GM — Would any of us know in-character what sort of healing is needed to repair Anevia's broken leg? Is it a matter of getting her to full HP? Manually setting the bone and then curing her HP damage? Something more powerful, like restoration? Or maybe none of us would know, which is fine too; I just need to know what my character would know. :)

"I'll check it out," Elsbeth announces, approaching the spot directly beneath the pack. When she gets there, she suddenly pauses, then looks around silently for a moment.

"That pack looks like it snagged as someone fell from above." Elsbeth thinks to herself. "Where's the body?"

Looking for signs of either (1) a body, (2) a survivor having left the area, or (3) evidence of the body having already been eaten by something. Taking 10 on Perception for a 16.

After her brief pause, Elsbeth uses the power of the scale to levitate up and grab the pack, then drift back down. She rummages through the pack as she returns to the group.

"Let's see here..." she says, "Decent bit of food in here, thank the Dawnflower. More oil for the lantern, some caltrops... Oh, Anevia, here are some more arrows for you to use."

Elsbeth walks over and hands the arrows to the injured scout, then returns her attention to the pack.

"Oh, hello," she says, somewhat excitedly as she pulls out two vials. "What have we here?"

Elsbeth unstoppers one of the potions, dips in a finger and touches her tongue. Taking 10 on Perception for a 16. "Ah, a cure light wounds potion! That should be helpful." Repeating the process with the second vial, Elsbeth now furrows her brow. "Not sure on this one; anyone else want to see if they can tell what it is?"

I'll take the levitate scale, if that's alright.

"Well," she says, "If these are our options, I suppose we take the slightly southerly tunnel. Any objections?"
