"I suppose we don't," Ella says thoughtfully, "But that seemed...pretty final, somehow. And besides, none of the others that we've vanquished have made a reappearance, at least so far. Once their tie to this life is severed, they tend to go quiescent - at least, that's what the Professor always said."
Ella tilts her head at Lorant, surprised perhaps that he'd be so enthusiastic about stakes. But she lets it lie. "Well, I'm glad that horrible apparition is gone. And that there's only one left. But the question remains...do we know where to go now?"
Thanks! The old one is now kaput, sadly. (I mean, I'd had it for about 5.5 years, so it's not ridiculous...but it was sudden, and I'm bummed.) I now have a much swooshier one, so I'm back!

Ella shrieks in terror, her scream adding to the floating heads' disconcerting noise. "GET AWAY!" she screams, and one of the larger chunks of chainmail hurls itself through the air at the screaming skull. for bludgeoning The chainmail clatters to the ground.
*sits up in startlement* Whazzat?
Once Lorant has briefly scanned the room, Ella gestures for Ed to proceed in.
Ella glares at Ed's crassness, but ignores him, turning to the others. "Well? Should we take the time to force our way through and try to find out what lies beyond?"
Ella shudders when Ed returns and describes what he's seen . "Sounds like not much there," she says. "There didn't appear to be another way out, Ed? If that's the case, we might not need to bother repairing the winch."
"Back here!" Ella calls. "I suggest we try raising it the...traditional way." The hint of a smile plays around her lips. "If need be, of course, Edmund can scout down that passageway - he can pass through the bars - but he can't move very far from me."
Ella stays close behind Judah as he goes to look.
“...I know we need to be careful, but I feel like we have to try to push a little further,” Ella says, glancing at Lorant. “As Lorant said, the Splatter Man may be making headway. We can retreat at the first sign of trouble.”

Ella slumps back as she pulls Ed back into his ectoplasmic form. "That was...exhausting." She holds up the curative wand the party owns, which is beginning to split along its length. "And this isn't long for the world. I wonder if we know what we're doing here..."
"I can help too!" Ella cries. She attempts to lunge in, waving the still faintly glowing wand that can dispense positive energy - ghosts don't like that, right?
"Coming!" Ella darts over to Cassiel and applies the wand to him as well.
She looks worriedly at the wand as its energy ebbs. "Oh no...this thing's nearly spent!"
Ella waves the wand over Lorant, muttering. Some of his wounds start to close up.
Ella moves up to Lorant. "Lorant! Do you need the wand to stop the bleeding?"
Ella sees Judah’s fumble and is inspired. “Good idea, Judah!” Yanking our her own flask of holy water, she attempts to douse the ghost. for
Ella scrambles back out of the melee, hoping to avoid both the Lopper and Judah, armed with an ax he doesn't know how to use. When she sees Lorant start bleeding, she cries out. "Lorant!" Grasping his hand, she focuses her energies on him in an attempt to keep him alive a little longer.
Ella nods grimly at Judah's prognosis, and isn't surprised when the abomination rises - though she does wince as it slices into Cassiel. "I think we can all guess who this might be..." she says grimly. Furrowing her brow and taking a step back, she focuses on Edmund...
Ella's not very graceful, but she makes it down. At the bottom, she squints into the darkness. "Shall I risk some light?"
Ella summons Edmund forth before they descend into the ruined prison. He drifts after them, surly. In the room, she peers at the pit with concern. “Do we think that this rope is new...? Or...not?”
She shakes her head. “Shall I have Ed fly down there and take a look?”
"Boys," Ella says tartly. "Thank you very much, goodwoman." Once outside, she glances around and asks, "Back to Harrowstone, then?"
Hey all. I'm still around, though I feel like I've been in and out of my games in a way that I don't really want to be. Sorry - I keep thinking I'm over the hump and then life rears its ugly head again. :(
"Indeed. You don't have to worry about us, ma'am," Ella says, trying to be reassuring. "We know how to take care of ourselves, and we've only good intentions at Harrowstone."

Ella bites her lip. "If I can get Edmund back into fighting shape, then...yes. It could be tricky. As the Professor explained to me once, he...well, he's not alive, obviously. So he can't recover from wounds the way that we do."
Ella peers into her cup, slightly suspiciously. “That or...darker forces,” she mutters morbidly. “No, no, it’s lovely, Kendra. I’m just tired and paranoid,” she adds hastily.
...what are the odds we can get Edmund some of that coffee? ^.^

A message to all my games: I apologize for disappearing late last week! I am a freelancer and my work has suddenly and unexpectedly kicked into high gear. On top of that, I’m attempting to apply to graduate programs, and most of those applications are due in early January. I was hoping that I could keep up my posting rate, but between work and the holidays I’m clearly going to slump a little. If I’m a player in this game, PLEASE feel free to bot me if I haven’t posted in a bit. I really appreciate it. If I’m the GM, I can only ask for your kind patience. I’ll try to post ASAP to keep us moving. Sorry, again, for the slightly delayed notice. Things should clear up after the next two weeks.
“Indeed,” Ella says with a frown. “I wish we had a better sense of what to expect from these ghosts... Well, Gibbs, it shouldn’t be too much longer. We’re trying our best to put these spirits to rest forever. We’ll get you out of here as soon as possible!” She’s consciously elides the fact that they’re the ones who put him here to begin with.
Ella goes directly to Gibbs once the group has heard the Sheriff's report. "How are you doing, Gibbs? Are you comfortable? Have you had any strange visions or experiences?"
Obviously that's important! Take the time you need.
Ella nods. "That would probably be best. We need to make sure nothing untoward happens - to or with Gibs."
Thanks for healing my pet, gang. :) Also, just a heads-up: I'll be traveling from Saturday morning until Monday evening. Will try to check in via mobile, but please feel free to bot me during that time!
Ella makes a rough cutting motion with her hand, and there's a *squelch* noise as Edmund disappears. "Well, that answers that," she says dryly, a brief blue glow fading from her eyes even as she speaks. "The way the professor explained it to me, Edmund's not...truly unliving. He's more of a...hm, it's hard to explain. He's an echo of who he was. That's not my brother's soul in any way, but it is...him. It's...complicated." She frowns. "More complicated than he was, when he was alive." She smiles at the two men, then. "Thank you for your help, though. We can continue to heal him once we've all rested some - it would be helpful to have him in fighting form when we go back to Harrowstone. But I don't want him wandering about this house."
Ella watches, frowning. "Well, he seems...somewhat better, at least. Thank you. Perhaps it's worth trying to heal him magically now..." She glances at her wand, which is nearly depleted. "If not, we'll have to give him time before we try to restore him further."
Ella stands and stretches. "Well, if you're willing to try...come on." She heads upstairs and takes a few moments to clear a workspace around the bed that she's been sleeping in, then closes her eyes and focuses for a minute or so. When she opens her eyes again, they're glowing blue, and the ectoplasmic form of Edmund takes shape in the bed. He doesn't look great--and is still "unconscious." Or whatever you call it for a phantom like him.
"Great," Ella says with a nod. "When we get back to the Professor's...I mean Kendra's...house, I'll manifest him again and leave him to your care."
"Well...I think as long as he is ectoplasmically manifested, we could try to provide him with regular medical care...I've no expertise in that, but if any of you can try you're welcome to."
I realized that the one other thing we could do to heal Ed--that'd be cheaper--is get a healer's kit and have someone use the Heal skill to treat deadly wounds. Can only do that once, though.
"Magic could heal Edmund, as the Professor explained it to me," Ella says, chewing her lip, "But that would take money--or for us to take more time, and I'm loath to hesitate with the Splatterman 'out and about,' as it were. I don't want you diminishing your credit with your gods, Lorant, and I doubt Father Grimburrow or the others would respond well to me asking them to heal my dead brother's spirit..."
